- "The blood of the emperor flows through all Astartes. Even the traitors."
- — Hjoldar Ming, 2nd Company Captain & Chief Librarian, speaking in reference to an unknown question asked by Ragnar Blackmane upon the chapter's arrival upon Fenris for the first and only time.
The West Khan Wolves are a Codex-compliant Adeptus Astartes chapter. Imperial records have listed them as successors of the Wolf King Leman Russ who came into being upon the Primarch Roboute Guilliman's return during the Era Indomitus. Realising the darkness that crept the Imperium of Man on all sides, the Emperor's only surviving son and recently instilled Lord Commander of the Imperium revealed his ultimate contingency plan, ten millennia in the making; the Primaris Space Marines. These next generations of Space Marines were larger, stronger and faster than their Firstborn counterparts. They would help bolster those Chapters that had sustained extensive casualties in recent decades, bringing them back to full strength. One such Chapter created during this time was the as-yet-unnamed West Khan Wolves, who served in the ranks of the Unnumbered Sons. However, due to a clerical error in the Imperial bureaucracy, this Chapter was forgotten for over a decade. However, upon their rediscovery, they were granted rights as a full-fledged Chapter, free to wage their war against the enemies of Mankind as they saw fit.
Chapter History
The origins of the West Khan Wolves hail back to the recent Ultima Founding at the dawn of a new millennium. Created as one of several newly formed Chapters comprised entirely of the newly revealed Primaris Space Marines, initially, they served within the ranks of the Unnumbered Sons, also known as the 'Greyshields'. Due to some clerical issues within the Administratum this chapter was initially abandoned and forgotten within imperial records leading to a 10-year-long period in which they struggled for survival aboard one of Belisarius Cawl's many secret laboratories. When they were finally unleashed onto the galaxy it was done so due to the auditing of Cawl's unregistered laboratory by imperial tax officials at the behest of the forge world Lucius. Upon the discovery of the unregistered chapter, the forge world representative promptly requisitioned all arms and armaments of the chapter as property of the forge world and replaced their war gear with previously owned and used armour and weaponry from fallen Astartes of chapters who had failed to meet their gene-seed tithing requirements.
Despite their supposed relation to the wolf kin of Fenris, they have little contact with the great companies, only Ragnar Blackmane seems to acknowledge their kinship and lineage. This, many imperial scholars believe, may be attributed to the distinct lack of physical mutations present in the chapters marines. If this apparent disdain for the chapter by their brothers is due to such physical discrimination, their primaris nature, or some other form of transgression, it is unknown. The chapter has made its home in the Ogris System within Segmentum Pacificus, the system having been gifted to them by the Storm Lords after settling some unknown dispute between them and the Raptors chapter. This event is one of many instances in which these marines' strange skill from charismatic negotiation has come into play. Indeed, it seems to be a trend that any such chapter they contact (even the notoriously taciturn and brutal Minotours and Carcharadons chapters) can be cajoled into negotiation and cooperation with this chapter.
The West Khan Wolves' seemingly supernatural skill to appeal to the interests of others has led to multiple documented instances of conflict being cut short or outright avoided due to their diplomatic prowess. Despite the suspicion that surrounds this chapter they have made a name for themselves as amiable and even friendly allies to all forces of the imperium, from guard regiments, to sororitas orders, and even the ordos of the inquisition. They recruit mainly from Ogris Major, a guard recruitment world, but have an agreement where unsuitable candidates on Fenris may be sent to them as a second chance to become space marines. Very few survive the trials which which appear to be similar to space wolf aspirant training. The chapter spends most of its time reinforcing nearby systems and holding back the onslaught of Tyranid, Necron, and Chaos-aligned forces that plague the sector.

Tactics & Culture
The chapter prides itself on its implementation of the spear tip assault first popularized by the forces of the arch-traitor during the great crusade. Their tactics consist of a variety of mounted assault and deep strike threats supported by a slow but inexorable march of fire support from gravis-armoured veterans. The chapter has a noticeable lack of terminators and armoured support units, instead relying on the newer Gravis armoured marines and fast-moving scout vehicles. There too is no dedicated scout company, as the chapter has a strange tradition of sending scout marines out to other chapters with which they are allied to learn and benefit from their different methods and tactics.
They have a peculiar reverence for warp craft with chapter librarians, or "kapłan" as they are referred to by the chapter's brothers, filling a majority of leadership positions. Their armor has a variety of tribal markings and flourishes present in the space wolves and white scars successors, which in addition to the factors mentioned previously, has led many within and without the chapter to debate on the true heritage of their gene-seed. They too have taken to the attachment of ornamental wings upon the jump packs worn by their mounted combatants, as a sign of prestige and honour given only to the most adept warriors within their brotherhood. Imperial scholars have noted a fascinating similarity between this chapter's culture and that of the Thousand Blades.
Despite the two chapters having no recorded contact they seem to be remarkably similar in their mannerisms resulting in further speculation by inquisitors and administratum adepts. In addition, the chapter employs a wide array of animal companions and mounts, which they claim to be sourced from nearby death worlds and cultivated deep within the walls of their fortress-monastery. While most would assume the wolves they employ are of the same stock as their brothers Fenrisian Wolves, battlefield reports have recorded their appearance to more closely resemble the Terran variety in addition to strange and unnatural behaviours that make such claims come into question. The sudden manifestation of their canid allies upon the battlefield and the flaming chains which bind them have even led some to speculate that these abominations are host to demons or other warp entities. Regardless of their true nature, these abominations are what appear to be the source of much suspicion from the chapters in which they work alongside.
The chapter's strange and dubious heritage and tactics have led many to treat them with suspicion and unease despite their superlative diplomatic negotiations. This suspicion went so far as to require Lord Inquisitor Kyria Draxus to officially investigate the matter alongside a detachment of custodians and the Minitours chapter which waited in orbit around their chapter homeworld awaiting orders to eradicate them. While official inquisitorial records are classified, it has become evident that the lord inquisitor exonerated the chapter, but under the condition that they work closely with the ordos following the closing of the investigation. This event is what has been responsible for this space wolf successor being the only of its kind to work closely alongside the Inquisition, even coming to the aid of inquisitors such as Inquisitor Torquemada Coteaz in their times of need.
This too has further ostracized the group from their Fenrisian allies and led to a wary distrust between the supposed brothers in arms. Chapter surfs and other non-Astartes who work alongside them would readily rally to the defence of their chapter as they are treated quite well compared to the menial labourers conscripted by other chapters, and it would seem the presence of this chapter in the Ogris System has undoubtedly stabilised the local economy and political climate upon ogris major. This is due in part to the increased protection, but it seems the chapter master, Król Du-aine (The Rock) Bjornson (who claims to be a distant relative of the famed Bjorn the Fell-Handed), has also taken upon the role of system governor in all but name, and the Administratum, while initially opposed to this arrangement has since quieted their complaints after the sizable increase in taxes was first received from the system.

Chapter Colours
The West Khan Wolves are one the proud Successor Chapters forged from the gene-seed of the Wolf King, Leman Russ and, as such, have much in common with both their gene-sire and their progenitors. Like their illustrious elder forebears, the West Khan Wolves flout the tenets of the Codex Astartes, ignoring standard proscribed Codex-approved insignia in favour of their own tribal markings and heraldry.
More feature stylised claw or fang marks. Squad numbers are similarily replaced with runes of the Space Wolves' deadly homeworld of Fenris, in honour of their shared genetic heritage.
The West Khan Wolves predominately paint their power armour painted in a deep blue livery with starburst orange as their secondary colour. The double-wolf head or winged wolf Imperialis symbol affixed to their plastrons are also starburst orange in colour.
The Chapter icon is proudly born on the left shoulder pauldron while the right bears a unique starburst orange Chapter insignia that indicates a battle-brother's assigned battlefield tactical role; a lozenge (diamond) for battleline; a lightning bolt for close support and a delta (triangle) for fire support.
Veterans Battle Leaders (Sergeant), Honour Guard and Ancient (Dreadnoughts) all replace the battlfield tactical role iconography with bespoke pack-markings designs in a combination of starburst orange, deep blue, white and black on their right shoulder plate.
A Jarl (Captain) may use similar designs in their own personal heraldry.
Jarldom Markings
Markings used by the different jarldoms of the West Khan Wolves; the eight "all black" insignia is used by the Chapter's Squad Squads.
The Space Wolves use a radically different system of markings than that used by Codex Astartes-compliant Chapters.
Rather than using the company markings as laid down in the Codex Astartes, the Space Wolves use a number of different wolf badges to denote the different Great Companies that make up the Chapter. These include some form of a stylized wolf sigil denoting some aspect of the native Fenrisian mythology.
The West Khan Wolves are similar to their progenitors, as they also do not utilise the same system of standard markings found within the Codex Astartes. The Chapter is comprised of only seven "jarldoms" (companies), each the equivalent of a Codex Chapter's Battle Company.
They are led by an officer called a "jarl" (a captain or Wolf Lord equivalent) who possesses close to full autonomy over the direction of his jarldom. In lieu of the usual wolf iconography utilised by their progenitors to indicate company assignment, the West Khan Wolves instead utilise various jarldom insignia. The eighth "all black" emblem is used by Scout Squads across all seven jarldoms. Jarldom markings are always featured on the right poleyn (knee plate).
Pack Runes
Common Fenrisian pack runes used by Wolf Khan Wolves battle-brothers.
Every battle-brother in a unit bears the same pack (squad) rune somewhere on their armour or equipment. These runes, identical to those used by the Human tribes of Fenris, are similar to the High Gothic unit numbers used by Codex Astartes-compliant Chapters, though the West Khan Wolves do not specify where they must be placed.
Poleyns, tasset plates and backpacks are all common places for the pack rune to be found. Also, West Khan Wolves battle-brothers do not display squad numbers. Instead they have runic pack markings, which are often displayed on their leg armour or backpack.

The West Khan Wolves Chapter badge is a large starburst-orange coloured wolf's head, fangs bared, centered upon a field of deep blue.

Trivia
This Chapter was made in honor of the Western Connecticut University Mascot. The West Conn. Wolves. They share the colors of the school, and started as a joke to piss of my friend who graduated from there and hates their new mascot. This one's for you Eric. Hjoldar!
