Vailrok Hota is a devotee of Nurgle, the Chaos God of Plague, Mortality and Morbidity. He was a Thunder Warrior of the IX Legion, the name of which is lost to history, before the execution of his brethren following the Unification War's cessation. He survived, and fled off world. Eventually, Vailrak would find himself in the service of Nurgle, purely in order to survive. When the forces of the Inquisition would have destroyed him through the enaction of exterminatus on the planet he was on, he underwent apotheosis, becoming a Daemon Prince.
Unification Wars
Vailrok Hota was inducted into the Emperor's Thunder Warrior's XIV Legion towards the end of the Unification Wars, where he would ascend to the rank of Captain. Although few records of his actions remain, it is known that he was influential in several battles. Like most of his brethren, he was presumed dead after the Battle of Mount Arrat. However, a group of Thunder Warriors, led by primarch Ushotan, learnt that they were created with short life spans on purpose. Vailrok was part of this group, and was against the rebellion, fleeing Terra before the pitiful rebellion was put down by the Legio Custodes.
Great Crusade and Horus Heresy
After fleeing, Hota found himself on a Hive World, Licitania I, in the Segmentum Solar. It was here that he became the leader of a large Hive Gang. However, his genetic deteriation meant that he would not survive for much longer. Fortunately for him, a Legion of the new Legiones Astartes arrived on the planet, in order to pacify it. Though they succeeded, Vailrok killed one of the warriors, and, with the help of an ancient abhuman apothecary, Terricas, and a Dark Age of Technology relic, used his Progenoids and extra organs in order to extend his lifespan.
With the outbreak of the Horus Heresy, and the rebellion of 9 of the god-like Primarchs, Vailrok saw an opportunity to extend his lifespan further. Form his position as leader of the largest Hive Gang on Licitania I, he organised the murder of a single Astartes from every Legion that landed on the planet. It is thought that this allowed him to extend his lifespan for a millenium, through the constant refreshing of his progenoids and organs.
Apotheosis
Though the exact date is unknown, at some point following the Horus Heresy, Vailrok's hive gang began to turn to Nurgle in the wake of a plague running rampant across the tight confines of the planet. With its members being all but immune to the deadly plague, Vailrok's hive gang spread across multiple hives, taking them over completely. Using the Dark Age of Technology relic, the progenoids of the early Space Marines, and the seemingly immortal abhuman, Terricas, he amplified the disease, making it hugely more dangerous. He would distribute an antidote among members of his hive gang, and use it to bribe planetary officials.
The Inquisition heard of the corruption spreading within Licitania I and sent a fleet of Ordo Malleus Inquisitors to assess, and potentially enact exterminatus on, the world. A large Inquisitorial force attacked the central hive in Vailrok's domain, and the Thunder Warrior himself led the counter attack. The Inquisitors were repelled, but the fleet remained in orbit. Exterminatus was enacted on the planet.
Just before Vailrok Hota would be destroyed by the orbital bombardment, Nurgle blessed him by turning him into an immortal Daemon Prince. The new Daemon Prince survived the bombing after retreating into the warp.
Current History
Between becoming a Daemon Prince and the opening of the Great Rift, Vailrok became the leader and deity of an Astartes Warband, the Saints of Rot. He has also created a miniature version of Nurgle's Garden on the Daemon World of Opherus II and its moons.
With the opening of the Great Rift, Vailrok has mobilised several of his gene-plagues, similar in nature to the plague he adapted on Licitania I, on the systems surrounding Opherus II. These diseases, and the forces of the Saints of Rot's plague marines, have proved almost unstoppable to the local PDFs and Imperial Guard.
Personality
Currently, Vailrok is full of anger against the Emperor who betrayed him and the other Thunder Warriors through giving them short lifespans. He directs this anger against his enemies through his service to Nurgle, which he does willingly. He is also very intelligent, especially through his development of diseases in his service to the Chaos God of Stagnation and Disease.
Wargear
Vailrok Hota wields a huge plague-ridden great sword, which he is able to wield with one hand due to his strength. In the other hand he carries a corrupted version of the Thunder Warrior's bolters. His winged, bloated form is armoured with a mutated form of his original Mk1 Thunder Armour.
Quotes
By Vailrok
- "Brothers, I know we have been betrayed. The Emperor, if He can be called that, meant for us to die. But this rebellion... it's futile. The Custodes will slaughter us. Then what have we achieved? Nothing. But if we live, then we are denying his will. That is a better form of rebellion... better than death."
- — Vailrok Hota, before the Thunder Warrior's rebellion.
