The Medjay is a Successor Chapter of unknown origin, but suspected to be of the genetic lineage of the Salamanders. This Chapter is renowned for their fierce loyalty and dedication to protecting the citizens of Imperium, though they seem to also show traits of the Dark Angels and Space Wolves. They are known for their exceptional skill in combat and their unwavering commitment to justice and honour. Despite the challenges they face, the Medjay remain resolute in their duty to defend the Imperium and uphold the values of the Salamanders. The Medjay often use surgical strikes, and guerrilla warfare on the battlefield, deploying Kill Teams of five to nine Marines, in strategic areas of a battlefield, to complete objectives and destabilize enemy lines.
The Medjay was founded as a means of creating and fortifying a defense line from Nocturne to Badab and Chogoris, securing the three sectors from both Chaos and Xenos threats.
The Medjay are unique as they practice many of the beliefs and doctrines of the culture of Kemet. They have a close relationship with the civilian population similar to their progenitors and always place civilian lives as top priority during planetary defense as well as missions outside the sector.
Chapter History[]
Notable Campaigns[]
- The Mobius Invasion (999.M41) - The Mobius Invasion started when the Bleak Brotherhood Chaos Warband chased down a frigate belonging to the order of the Sacred Rose of the Adepta Sororitas. The Chaos Warband caused the ship to crash land on the planet, Mobius, killing most of the crew and all but four of the Sisters of Battle. The Canoness, who was critically injured from the crash and the surviving Sisters, managed to broadcast a distress call just before the ship crashed but found themselves severely outnumbered as well as the risk to the local population of the planet if the Chaos Warband makes planetfall.
Mobius, being a feral Jungle World, would not be able to defend itself from a Chaos Warband, so the Sisters were able to create an understanding between themselves and the local populous and create an alliance. As drop pods began to land on the surface, both the Sisters and the Mobians fought fiercely. The Medjay, who was on the other side of the system, received the distress call and dispatched Three Companies to Mobius, to help fight the Bleak Brotherhood.
As the Medjay Cruiser, "The Silver Blade" entered orbit, it laid down heavy fire on the unsuspecting Chaos Cruiser, splitting the hull of the enemy ship in half and leaving it to drift, which cut off the Warbands escape. The Medjay launched their drop pods to the surface of Mobius, they dropped right in the middle of enemy lines, hitting the Bleak Brotherhood hard and forcing them to lose formation, within a few hours, every member of the Chaos Warband on the planet lay dead at the feet of the Medjay.
The Medjay found that the Mobians took heavy casualties from the Chaos Forces, the Canoness had sacrificed herself despite her injuries, trying to defend a village as well as two other Sisters that lay beside her. The last remaining Sister, wounded lay among the pile of bodies. In the aftermath of the Battle, the Medjay's Apothecary gave the remaining Sister of Battle medical attention, and the Medjay remained on Mobius until the locals were able to recover from the attack and rebuild.
- The Cyraxis Incident (000.M42)' - On a mission to recover a rumored relic of Vulkan on a rogue planet of Cyraxis. The Medjay deployed an eight man extraction team to find and recover this relic. The Planet is located outside of the Pariah Nexus and a Dead World deprived of any known valuable resources. Upon landing on the surface of the Dead World, the Extraction team discovered several structures laying in ruin, remains of what use to be some sort of mining colony possibly from as far back as the 31st Millenium. As the Team of Medjay Astartes entered the long forgotten ruins of the colony, they found a structure in the center, which appeared to be a small fort once used to defend the colony. Before the Medjay could reach the fort, they were ambushed by Ten Chaos Marines of the Mysterious Chaos Warband, the Horde, who immediately killed off the Medjay's Eliminator team member and an Intercessor team member, leaving only their Sergeant and four other Intercessor members. As they ran for the fort, the Horde laid down heavy fire on their position, keeping them from reaching the fort. What neither the Medjay or the Horde realized, was that they had alerted someone else that had an interest in the planet, a small group of Necrons had begun to advance on the old colony. As the Medjay and the Horde fought each other, the Necrons entered the fort, which just happened to house the relic that the Medjay were looking for, a ancient pauldren with metallic skull smelted onto it, not forged by Vulkan, but did belong to an Astartes. Once the Medjay entered to fort, the Horde began to scale the walls, trying to take the fort before the Medjay had the chance to defend it. Upon entering the fort, the Medjay came face to face with the Necrons and a small skirmish broke out. realizing they had two enemies to face, one being in the fort with them and the other trying to get in, the Medjay went on the defense in the south east corner of the fort, while three of the Horde's Marines began to come up over the west wall, the Necrons holding their position on the North and east end. The Necrons seen the three Chaos Astartes and shot them as they reached the top of the wall. The Medjay Sergeant agreed to a parlay called for by the Necron Royal Warden, that had been leading a squad of eleven Necron warriors and had several Scarab swarms at his disposal. Bobahotek, the Royal Warden, offered a temporary alliance in which the Medjay agreed to in order to defeat a common enemy. As the Chaos Warband made another attempt at climbing the west wall, the combined Necron and Medjay forces repelled the Chaos Marines, forcing them to retreat back to their drop pod. The Medjay, knowing that the Necrons had found something inside the fort, turned their attention to them, only to find the Necrons teleporting off world, leaving behind the ancient pauldren that was of no importance to the Necrons. When the pauldren was taken back to Kemet for further study, the Forge Masters discovered that the pauldren belonged to a member of the Dragon Warriors, their traitor cousins that left the Black Dragons chapter. the relic was successfully purified and now sits in a relic vault within the Sentinel of Kemet awaiting a new owner.
- The Horde Skirmishes (001.M42) - The Medjay have been engaged in several skirmishes between the Catachan system and Chogoris, and Badab and Nocturne, battling the Warband known as the Horde, who have been laying siege to several colonies within those areas. The Medjay are in a joint military campaign with their close allies, the Ghost Dogs and are currently defending the Shrine World known as Mora. The Horde have been using several tactics, to fight both the Medjay and the Ghost Dogs, keeping the Ghost Dogs occupied with Hit and Run assaults, the same tactic that the Ghost Dogs themselves normally use, digging miles of trenches, and forcing the Medjay to go on the defensive within some of the Shrine cities, while the Horde digs closer and closer to their defensive lines. While the Horde keep the two allied Astartes chapters occupied, the Traitors of the Astra Militarum continue to dig trenches, closer to the Medjay and Ghost Dog's Defensive Lines.
- The Priya Incident/ Treaty of Atlas (002.M42) - During and expedition to an abandoned Imperial Cruiser that was found drifting near the Derelict Forest World of Priya, The Medjay had deployed a team to recover any relics they could find and bring them back to Kemet to be stored within their Fortress Monastery. Upon entering the Abandoned Cruiser, they discovered that it was nearly empty, except for a Servo-Skull with an open message to whoever finds it. The message was from a Skitarii Ranger by the name Zodomen Maxekren, who had escaped an attack by Pirates in the service of Chaos, only to crash land on the planet below. When the Medjay expedition team arrived on the planet's surface, they found another message inside the Drop Pod, that Zodomen had escaped in. The last message mentioned him traveling with a Skitarii woman, an Adeptus Mechanicus Tech-Priestess named Izmah Osentex, the two had escaped to the surface and the message cuts off as soon as they can hear a battle cry in the background, which sounded like a Chaos Cult descending on the Drop Pod. Half a mile from the Drop Pod, they found the wounded, Zodomen Maxekren, in a village full of various Abhumans, mostly Beastmen, Felinids, and Wulfen varients. The Abhumans weren't alone, as the Medjay scouts spotted a Primaris Apothecary among them, tending to the wounded Skitarii. Before the Medjay could make any move, a Warband of both Primaris Marines and Abhumans had found them and surrounded them. The Leader of the Warband, a Primaris Lieutenant addressed the Medjay, explaining to them who they were and how they ended up on the planet. These Marines were Greyshields from various Astartes Chapters that had crash landed on the planet and had lost all contact with the Imperium. The Abhumans were mostly wonderers that had made their home on the planet, except the Wulfen that were Astartes of the Space Wolves that had been among the Greyshields. Both the Greyshields and the Abhumans had a common enemy, on the planet a Chaos Cult Backed by the Chaos Marine Warband known as the Horde. Izmah Osentex had been taken by them and was being tortured and interrogated by them until she would break and give them any information they wanted, before they sacrifice her to the ruines powers. The two Medjay and the Greyshields along with the Abhumans, agreed to rescue and destroy the Chaos Cult and the Traitor Astartes on the planet,. and on the following day, hit the Chaos forces with a shock assault, using guerilla tactics to catch the Chaos Warband off guard. The Alliance managed to free Izmah and bring her to safety, as a small handful of Chaos Marines managed to escape through a Chaos Gate on the planet, which the Medjay and the Greyshields destroyed behind the Traitors. The Chaos Cultists were massacred, with no survivors once the Horde Marines abandoned them. Later the Greyshields, who the Abhumans call " The Immortals" and the Abhumans themselves had a meeting with the Medjay Chapter Master, Saladin Creed. The two sides agreed to a secret peace treaty and that the planet, of Priya was to remain lost from the Imperium's knowledge. Priya would remain known as a Quarantined Derelict Forest World, unable to support any kind of colonies, as far as anyone would know. The Immortals would be the Guardians of the Abhuman Colonists, even though they were only down to thirteen Primaris Marines, they were seen as legendary Heroes among them.

Secret Knowledge: The Medjay Librarians have a brief knowledge of a Mysterious Chaos Warband, known by a group of Medjay Battle Brothers as "The Horde." This Warband was encountered by this particular Group of Battle Brothers during their training to become Neophytes. During training these Aspirants had mistaken the Chaos Warband for either the Bleak Brotherhood or the Apocalypse Company. The Horde Warband had dispatched a small squad to the surface of the Medjay's feral training moon to do recon, before establishing a base of operations there. As the Aspirants spotted them, they began tracking and hunting them, until they had spotted the Warband's camp. The Aspirants waited until the cover of night and ambushed the Warband. Before the Warband had time to react, the Aspirants had already killed most of the Warband, using primitive but effective weapons and tactics.
Eventually, the Aspirants killed every Marine with the Warband but had lost half their group in the process. The Aspirants brought back the bodies with them to Kemet, once they had finished training only to discover that it was not who they expected. The Librarians discovered that this Warband had been made up of several different Successor Chapters that were lost to the Warp over time, as far back as the Abyssal Crusade. On numerous occasions, the various Battle-Brothers would board a derelict Battle Barge within the Warp not knowing what lies within its hull. As they entered the Battle Barge, an elusive Warp entity would engulf them, corrupting their minds and ultimately cause them to give in the Chaos. They would paint their armour black, with a bright green tiger strip pattern, and would collect skulls which they would add to their armor. Not only have the Horde begun to build an army, but also a small armada of former Imperial Cruisers.
Orders of Battle (999.M41)[]
(The chapter’s number was given in detail before the introduction of primaris marines)[this should include the number of specific units in companies, can also include vehicles, the number of marines in specialist ranks and commanders’ names]
Chapter Command[]
Companies[]
Chapter Doctrine[]
Chapter Philosophy[]
The Medjay shows very little emotion during the heat of battle. They remain focused on the enemy, seeking out patterns in the enemy's movement and tactics and remaining ever vigilant during combat. The Medjay believe that a strong mind is a disciplined one, they will point out the enemy's weak points and expose them, using that weakness to their advantage.
Chapter Beliefs[]
Highest Values: The Medjay value the lives of their Brothers, as well as the citizens of the Imperium, they show no fear and do not hesitate when it comes to Protecting the people.
Perception of the Emperor[]
The Medjay believe in the Emperor but don't worship him as a God. They realize that he has great power and that he is slowly dying on the Golden Throne. The Medjay believe and it has been prophesized, that the Emperor will eventually die, but he will be reborn even more powerful than before. To the Medjay, everything has a return.
Views on Death[]
The Medjay believe that even though everything dies, it is reborn. They will have funeral pyres for their fallen Brothers and celebrate by drinking and feasting on their fallen and to the fact that they will one day be reborn.
Adherence to Codex Astartes[]
The Medjay are semi-Codex compliant, with some of their own traditional rules and organization. Each Captain is in charge of four Platoons of five to seven Marines, each consisting of a Lieutenant a Veteran Sergeant and up to four Battle Brothers. A Special Operations Platoon may consist of an Eliminator, one Champion, an Apocrathary, and either a Heavy Intercessor or Aggressor and at least 3 Assault Intercessors The core staff consists of Chaplains, Librarians and a few Bladeguard Veterans, who are typically deployed during large engagements. Tech-Marines and Librarians will also be assigned to a Platoon if available. During recovery expeditions, either on planets of Space Hulks, an Astartes Officer called the Master of Relics often accompanies the squad that is deployed.
Traditions[]
Medjay Battle Brothers will always take a knee, when praying with a Chaplain, with their right arm across their chest with a closed fist. Veteran Battle Brothers have Gold Painted skulls of Necron Warriors, that they where as belt buckles.
Character and Behavior[]
The Medjay are a "Band of Brothers" in its purest form. they look out for their fellow Battle-Brothers including Neophytes and also Astartes from other Chapters, especially ones that they have fought alongside on multiple occasions. This has created a strong bond with the White Scars and their successors, as well as the Space Wolves and their fellow Salamanders Brethren, they also happen to be in good standing with the Raven Guard, who have taught the Medjay Eliminator Marines a few Marksmen tactics.
Chapter Culture[]
The Medjay, like the people of Kemet, are very traditional. Unlike most Adeptus Astartes, the Medjay still maintain a relationship with their families and clans. Saladin Dragonfyre himself, comes from a noble House, who during large engagements with the Forces of Chaos or Xenos, will deploy their three Imperial Knights who are controlled by his three cousins.
The Medjay often celebrate their victories, which consist of large feast and drinking Mead, which they learned to make from the Space Wolves. Each Company has slight variations to their Power Armor to signify which company they belong to and each company derives from a clan of Kemet, the Third Company for example, which is a Primaris Reivers Company, will wear black hooded tabards. Each Clan within the ranks of the Medjay, paint their clan markings on their Helmets.
The Medjay well known for their various activities while not at war and during their travels, combat sparring is one, and the other is brewing alcohol, especially Rum, some of it being drinkable to a normal human, while the more potent brews are reserved only for an Astartes, the lesser brews that the people of Kemet have access to, are said to be some of the finest Rum in the Galaxy. The Medjay are no strangers to the Forge, like their Salamander Brothers, they often forge weapons, especially swords and axes, engraved with runes and glyphs that they say are able to stave off Chaos taint and deal more lethal blows to their enemies.
The Medjay, unlike some of the other Astartes, have an affinity for animals, it is not uncommon to see one of them taking Dogs, Wolves and predatory birds as pets, which they train and use as guard and hunting companions.
Chapter Gene-Seed[]
Genetic Flaws[]
Notable Members[]
Chapter Master: Grand Chief Saladin Creed
Motto: "Everything that has a beginning, has an end and begins again, that which dies, will be reborn, this is who we are."
Warcry: "Victory Is Life."
Size: 500
Description: The Medjay function mainly as Rangers and Wardens between Nocturne and Chogoris, their main goal is to secure a main line between the two sectors, while defending the civilian populations within the neighboring sectors. The Medjay often form joint task forces with a White Scars successor chapter, called the Ghost Dogs, who they have created a close bond with as well as adopted some of the tactics that the Ghost Dogs use. Due to numerous battles with three different Chaos Warbands and a Necron threat in a nearby system, the Medjay's numbers have been reduced to half the size it should be, making most of the current Aspriants and Neophyte recruits the only means of making up for the loss in numbers.
Chapter Recruitment[]
Locations of recruitment[]
The Medjay recruit from within the Kemet Prime system, mostly from Kemet itself and the neighboring planet, Mobius.
Aspirant Selection and Trials[]
The Medjay select their Aspriants, with specific details in mind, the first trial places Aspriants in groups of five, where they are sent to a Feral moon within the system's large Gas Giant, there they must work as a team, using mostly primitive weapons and tools to survive. those that show common traits with various Astartes positions, such as Eliminators, Intercessors, Terminators etc. are then singled out and placed into groups again, ad receive training specific to those positions. Once training is complete, those recruits are placed back into their groups, with the new training, and given their first mission, which is considered their first live fire training, they are sent on recon and deep strike missions against any nearby enemies, mostly Chaos Cults and Warbands, where they put their skills to use, coordinating attacks to exterminate their foes.
Failed Aspirant Treatment[]
Aspirants that fail in their missions, that survive their first mission are sent to train with the Tempestus Scions, the Rangers of Kemet, rather than having them disposed of, the main reason for this, is because the Medjay firmly believe that everything and everyone has some sort of use.
Gene-Seed Implementation rituals[]
After implanting the Primarch's gene-seed, the Neophytes that survive the procedure, have a feast to celebrate their new transition and are then sent to forge a customized blade, made with their own hands, using the skills they were taught during their training. They would then give that weapon a name and perform the ritual prayers that they would normally perform on their bolters and chainswords.
Further trials[]
The Neophytes, once they have received their Implants and gene-seed, are then organized into Platoons, and sent to fight nearby enemies, this time, it is a larger threat, like the Necrons, or the Tyranids.
Role of Neophytes[]
The Neophytes that are sent into their first battle with the Necrons or Tyranids, are given a quota, they must bring back trophies from each one that they kill personally the amount being anywhere between 20 to 100 trophies, those that meet or exceed the quota are then eligible to become a Battle-Brother. Those that do not meet the quota, are sent back into battle until they do.
Process of becoming a Battle-Brother: The newly appointed Battle Brothers are given their Battle Armor and the basic ritual is performed while they have the armour placed onto them, except the ritual tattooing from their first victories, done beforehand.
Chapter Appearance[]
Chapter Colours[]
The Medjay primarily wear metallic green power armour with portions of it painted black with gold trim. High-ranking Medjay have an Eagle on their right pauldron, while the lower-ranking members have an Algiz or an Ophila rune (adopted from the Space Wolves) and their Platoon number below the rune, this may also be displayed on either the right or left kneepad, depending on the company. Eliminators will have an arrow pointing upwards painted on one of their kneepads. The Chapter Champion will have a White skull with two gold swords pointing downward on their right pauldron. Librarians will have a gold feather painted on the right pauldren. Each Clan member that becomes an Astartes has a Helmet custom painted to represent his family and the high ranking officers will have a Crest Shield significant to their clan as well.
Organizational Markings[]
A number on the right knee pad signifies which company they belong to and traditional rank insignia on the left knee pad.
Chapter Decorations and Honour Markings[]
Chapter Masters, Chaplains and Librarians will often wear hooded robes adorned with gold chains and other Imperium symbols as well as medals showing Veteran status. Marines will also undergo ritual tattooing after surviving a battle to signify victory the tattoo being a symbol significant to the battle. The Medjay power armour often contains gilded elements, symbols and decorative patterns or runes, Eliminator Marines and Scouts tend to wear robes or capes and mount trophies on their armor taken from dead enemies, honour markings are often badges or transcriptions. Clan members will have their Helmets custom painted, showing which Clan the derive from.
Symbolics Meaning[]
The Medjay use the Ouroboros snake due to their belief that everything in the Universe happens in cycles, everything that ends will begin again, and anything that dies will make a return. The crossed swords are a reference to ancient Terra, the birthplace of the Emperor of Mankind.
Chapter Badge[]
The Medjay use the symbol of a pair of gold-coloured crossed swords with a gold Ouroboros snake above them on a black surface with gold trim.
Relations[]
Relations with Humans[]

- Psykers: The Medjay have Librarians among their ranks and often view them as Shamans as do the civilians of Kemet and the population of Mobius.
- Abhumans: The Medjay treat Abhumans as equals, due to the Medjay also having minor gene abnormalities as well as the cause of the Abhumans mutations. Those that are clearly tainted by Chaos, are usually killed on sight and the bodies burned.
- Serfs: The Medjay treat their Serfs just as they would, normal civilians, even in death, a Serf is given a proper funeral with honors for their service.
- Serf Culture: The Serfs serve their Medjay masters, from preparing them for battle to preparing meals for them, A typical Serf will assist with pre-battle rituals, giving their Masters anointment oils and lighting incense so that their Masters can pray and have their weapons blessed, as well as their armour.

The Medjay believe that the Emperor of Mankind will eventually die, which angers the Ecclesiarchy, however, the Medjay also believe that when the Emperor finally dies, he will be reborn once again, much in the same way as when he was first born, and that he will come back even stronger than before, which is what puts the Ecclesiarchy at odds with them and has kept them from branding the Medjay as Heretics.
- Inquisition: The Medjay have very little interaction with Inquisitors, and have managed to stay out of each other's way. Any members of the Inquisition that make planetfall are usually passing through.
- Deathwatch: The Medjay have a great respect for the Deathwatch and have often done joint training with them and occasionally sent Veterans to serve with the Deathwatch. This has lead to the Medjay to adopt some of the Tactics the Deathwatch uses particularly in fighting the Necrons.
- Rogue Traders: Rogue Traders often do business in the Kemet Prime system, which has given the Medjay access to a lot of modified weaponry not normally issued to the Adeptus Astartes, and some of the other factions of the Imperium. One most notable Rogue Trader is Moab Al-Mustifah, who Saladin Creed often does business with.
- Other: The Medjay have also made a close ally of an Adepta Sororitas Order on the planet of Mobius, called the Order of the Pink Rose, which was formed from the sole surviving Sister of Battle, whos fellow Order members were all killed when they defended the Planet from an invasion from the Bleak Brotherhood Chaos Warband.
- Maugien Dusksight: One of the last two members of an Aeldari Craftworld, he and his Partner Laheriel Moonstrider, the remaining members of the Striking Scorpions of that Craftworld, came in contact with the Medjay during a skirmish with the Necrons, when Moab Al-Mustifah aided the Medjay. the two Aeldari are members of Al-Mustifah's retinue and earned the respect of the Medjay, a rare thing for any Xenos species.
