The First Allies are the primary fighting force of the United Species, a large and powerful coalition of many different xenos races, including the Tau, Kroot, humans and Aeldari. Their Primarch's pod landed on the homeworld of the Tau species, and only joined the Great Crusade to protect them. When the Fracturing happened, he left to join and protect the Tau, taking half of his Legion with him.

Currently, the Legion acts as the primary military force in the United Species, with a Sept Legion permanently attached to each Sept. They make use of very advanced technology, including the many patterns of Pulse Armour and Pulse Weapons developed by the engineers of the United Species.

History[]

The Great Crusade & Finding Sha Or'es[]

In the beginning half of the Great Crusade, the XI Legion was known as the Revenant Purgers, and were created from the most violent and rebellious children of Earth's techno-barbarian warlords. They gained a reputation for their brutal murdering and slaughter of all xenos and any human populations that had even temporarily allied themselves with them. This reputation was proved time and time again and in the first century of the Great Crusade they were accredited with the single handed extermination of at least 4 xenos races.

After about 2 centuries, the Imperium's forces encountered a fledgling xenos empire, comprised primarily of the Tau. Alarming reports of human forces accompanying the xenos, led by a being of incredible size and strength reached the Emperor. He suppressed these rumours and went to meet this being in private. The being introduced himself as Gue'ron'sha Or'es, and the Emperor quickly realised that he was one of His sons, a Primarch. Knowing the threat a Primarch not allied with the Imperium would cause, He offered Or'es an ultimatum; join the Imperium and the Tau would survive, but would be limited to their home system in secret; or be destroyed along with the xenos. In order to protect the xenos, Or'es accepted and accepted command of the XI Legion, using the cover name Sha Ores and a false story.

Ores' pod had landed on the world of T'au, homeworld of the newly developed Tau race. Being brought up among the xenos, he began to follow the Greater Good that the Tau had begun to use. He began to accompany the Tau's fire warriors and Gue'la on attack missions to spread the Tau empire. By the time the Imperium encountered the Tau, Or'es had become a leading member of their military, and had spread the Greater Good to an unknown number of planets.

Their Primarch's more peaceful nature was incredibly at odds with the violent, incredibly xenophobic members of the Revenant Purgers. This led to a large rift emerging within the old and new Legionnaires. Even before the Fracturing, many elements of the Legion were acting alone and separate from the will of their Primarch.

The Fracturing[]

When Sha Ores received word of the imminent warp storms about to rack the galaxy, he revealed the truth about his origins to his Legion. Those who joined the Legion before he was found left, under the command of the former Legion Master Karnus. These members retained the name of the Revenant Purgers, and would not encounter their former Legion until significantly after the Fracturing. Those who remained were persuaded to join their Primarch. Most of these Legionnaires joined the Legion after their Primarch was found, and so were considerably more loyal to him and did not have the brutal and xenophobic personalities of the Revenant Purgers.

In the wake of the Legion's split, over half their fleet was destroyed by the Revenant Purgers before they fled into the tumultuos warp. Those who survived journeyed with their Primarch to the remnants of the Tau empire, of which only a system remained. Calling to his former allies, Or'es asked to once again join and protect them, with the remnants of his Legion. Though the marines were treated with a lot of suspicion at first by the xenos, their efforts to protect them from daemons managed to eventually dismiss much of this suspicion.

The Tau empire would not have been a site of great contention during the Fracturing, as the Tau were not very psychically adept, and so would not have drawn much attention in the eyes of the Dark Pantheon. However, with the arrival of Sha Ores and his Legion, the Chaos Gods saw an opportunity to eliminate a potentially powerful Legion, and either kill or turn their Primarch. This meant that they increased the daemonic attacks on the system by an incredible amount, and the Fracturing was a near constant battle, with large daemon hosts attacking the system every few years.

Despite their allies and the technology gifted to them, the XI Legion's numbers dwindled dramatically as a result of the continued fighting. The Tau empire had no human auxiliaries at the time, so the Legion was unable to replenish their ranks apart from with the limited families of serfs within their fleet. This meant that by the time they emerged from the warp storms, an estimated 5,000 marines remained alive.

Post-Fracturing[]

Following the lifting of the warp storms that caused the Fracturing, those that remained of the newly named First Allies Legion quickly embarked on a series of campaigns in the human-inhabited systems surrounding the Tau Empire. Pretending they were still loyal to the Imperium, they took all viable humans on the worlds, before mind-wiping them and turning them into Space Marines. These new recruits allowed the Legion to survive for long enough for the founding of the United Species and the arrival of human settlements who began to follow the Greater Good.

The United Species was founded by the lead Tau Ethereal and Sha Ores in order to create an empire built on peace and the Greater Good rather than war. In the years following the Fracturing, the forces of the First Allies and Tau Fire Caste expanded outwards from T'au to create several Sept Worlds. During this expansion, many human worlds that were isolated from the Imperium and did not know of its fate were brought into the United Species' fold peacefully, and many minor xenos races were accepted. These included the Kroot, Vespid and several surviving Eldar factions, including Craftworld Ill'matar and 2 Exodite worlds.

After this initial period of aggressive expansion, the xenos species populating the United Species Sept Worlds signed the Pact Shan'al Prime- a formal declaration of their allegiance with the United Species. For a century after this pact, the Empire was at peace, with little to no attacks on their outer borders. During this time, Sha Ores declared that he would enter stasis upon the world of T'au until he was needed in a time of war. While their Primarch was in stasis, the First Allies began to fully spread out among the Sept Worlds of the United Species, eventually forming individual Sept Legions with unique colour schemes and cultures.

A century after the Fracturing, the United Species came under attack from a large Chaos Warband. Ores was awakened and he identified them as the corrupted members of the Revenant Purgers. Having felt that their Primarch had betrayed them, the former Legion had found solace in the Ruinous Powers, who promised them power and revenge in exchange for their service. The newly empowered warband cut a large swathe through the United Species' Sept Worlds brushing aside even the Pulse Armour clad First Allies with ease. Sha Ores organised a trap with the majority of his Legion, the forces of Craftworld Ill'matar and the Fire Warriors of T'au and D'yanoi upon the Sept World of D'yanoi.

As the chaos fleet entered the system and began to defeat the token resistance on D'yanoi itself, the trap was sprung and the chaos fleet was all but destroyed. On the surface of D'yanoi, Sha Ores battled with the Chaos Lord of the Legion, Karnus. Sha's personal battlesuit was almost destroyed by the Chaos Marine's corrupted weaponry. He was forced to eject out of the battlesuit, detonating its power core and mortally injuring the Marine. Their leader almost dead and enemies on all sides, the Warband retreated, swearing vengeance.

Sha put himself back into stasis following the battle, and would only be awoken when the United Species underwent another period of expansion, named Spheres. Across the 10 millennium after the Fracturing, the Empire has undergone 16 Spheres of Expansion, with each one ending in the signing of a new Pact Shan'al - the second one signed was called the Pact Shan'al Secundus etc.

Notable Campaigns[]

  • 816.M30 - Purge of the Retzur - The Revenant Purgers kill the xenos known as the Retzur in a series of incredibly bloody campaigns. They also completely exterminate the human population that temporarily allied with them for protection during Old Night.
  • 996.M30 - Finding Sha Ores - An Imperial Army force encounters a reasonably large xenos Empire, accompanied by an incredibly powerful humanoid. The Emperor, correctly identifying this as one of his Sons, meets with him in private. After being offered an ultimatum, Sha is persuaded to join.
  • 055.M31-045.M32 - The Fracturing - As warp storms rack the galaxy, Sha Ores orders his Legion to retreat to T'au, and reveals the truth about his origins to his Legion. A schism manifests between the already rebellious Terran Revenant Purgers and those from other planets who joined under the command of Sha. The brutal battle resulted in the loss or treachery of over 50% of the Legion. After retreating to T'au, they ally with the xenos against the daemonic forces that attempted to kill the isolated Primarch. Due to a lack of recruits, their numbers dwindled to below 5,000 in this time.
  • 046.M32 - Recruitment Raids - In order to replenish their ranks, the First Allies raid surrounding systems for viable human recruits. A large amount of the Legion disliked this, but understood its necessity.
  • 048.M32-452.M32 - First Sphere of Expansion - The new United Species undergo an aggressive period of expansion, culminating in the signing of the Pact Shan'al Prime between the newly integrated xenos and human worlds.
  • 454.M32 - Battle of D'yanoi - The corrupted members of the Revenant Purgers raid the United Species in an attempt to kill the XI Primarch, who they felt had betrayed them. The battle culminates on D'yanoi where the Chaos force is trapped and killed. Sha Ores and Chaos Lord Karnus are both significantly injured.
  • 002.M35-015.M35 - War of the Outer Border - The First Allies Legion temporarily ally with Volkhard Breuer of the Paragon Wardens legion to defend the 4 Rings Empire from 3 legions of the Imperium Remnant; the Dusk Knights, Iron Knights and Mortis Legion.

Legion Homeworld[]

Currently, the Legion uses the Sept Worlds of the United Species as its homeworld. Each Sept world is home to its own Sept Legion with its own colour scheme and culture. However, the official homeworld used by the primary Sept Legion is T'au. It is also where Sha Ores is kept in stasis in peace time.

Legion Fortress[]

The primary fortress of the First Allies is called the United Forum, and in peace time is used as the United Species' government building. However, in times of war it can act as a fully functional fortress and base of operations that leaders of the United Species' could run a war from, even if the rest of the planet has fallen.

Legion Organization[]

The First Allies legion is divided into a number of Sept Legions, each of which is loyal to a Sept world of the United Species. Each Sept Legion varies in size, with the largest being T'au's Sept Legion at 10,000 marines and the smallest being Au'taal's at 500. Most Sept Legions are divided into companies of 100 marines.

Specialist Formations[]

  • Farsight Sqauds - Consisting of marines from most Sept Legions, the Farsight Squads of the First Allies Legion are those who scout ahead of the main force, making use of highly mobile bikes and pulse armour patterns that allow them to take out vulnerable enemy positions ahead of the main force of First Allies. Their main purpose however is outside of the battlefield, where they act as inter-system scouts to spread the word of the Greater Good ahead of a Sphere of Expansion. They will infiltrate a target world and attempt to sway the worlds defenders. When targeting the oppressed worlds of the Imperium, this is an easy job. When the main force of the United Species arrives, the defenders typically give up willingly, either due to the persuasion of the Farsight Squads, or their sabotage of ke systems.
  • United Star Legion - The United Star Legion is the most physical representation of the alliance between the Republic of Celestius Sinuglaris and United Species. It is a force of marines from across the United Species and Celestius Singularis who both remove the former colours of their Legion and wear black and white. These forces work together on campaigns involving both empires.

Legion Beliefs[]

The Legion are fervent followers of the Greater Good and are indoctrinated to follow its teachings. They are all willing to lay down their lives if it furthers its goal. They have also foregone the xenophobia of their brethren and former Revenant Purgers brothers, and, as with the rest of the United Species, believe that galactic peace can be achieved through the alliance of all species under the Greater Good.
