- "Even when your kind appears to triumph..still we rise again. And do you know why? It is because we were born of a realization. We require no creed. No indoctrination by desperate old men. All we need is our righteous wrath and blinding faith in the God-Emperor. And THIS is why the Templars will never be destroyed!"
- — Attr. Grand Marshal Reginald Blackstone during his Chapter's first engagement with the forces of Chaos following the reconstitution of the Templars Moline during the Indomitus Crusade.
The Templars Moline are a formerly-extinct Loyalist Successor Chapter created from the zealous and dedicated Black Templars, whom themselves hail from the proud lineage of the stoic Primarch Rogal Dorn. Presumably created during the 14th Founding, sometime between 975-991.M35 as a part of several linked Foundings, the Templars Moline carried on the proud traditions of their Crusading progenitors and took to the stars in a massive warfleet - holy crusaders on a neverending Crusade to bring the light of the Emperor to the benighted enemies of Mankind. Later on, they would become a part of the Hell Warders - a quintumvirate of five Space Marine Chapters tasked to defend the Imperium against Chaos incursions from the Hellgates - dual warp storms located in the Segmentum Solar which are uncomfortably close to Holy Terra.
The Templars Moline are believed to have taken part in the defence of Sector Occident Prime during the First Hell Crusade in the first century of M36. However, they did not appear as a named chapter until the Second Hell Crusade, which took place in the latter centuries of M37. It is generally assumed by Imperial savants that the Templars Moline Chapter was established for the purpose of providing fleet support to the original Hell Warders Chapters. Tragically, the Chapter would meet a dire end when the entirety of their Chapter fleet disappeared into the warp rifts during the Castigation Crusade of 742.M41. They were officially declared lost two years later after careful search by their fellow Warders found no survivors.
At the dawning of the 42nd Millennium, with the advent of the events that occurred during the 13th Black Crusade, the destruction of Cadia and the formation of the galaxy-wide tear in reality, known as the Cicatrix Maledictum, the Templars Moline have once again risen from the ashes of their former demise. They have been reconstituted into the form of a new Ultima Founding Chapter comprised entirely of Primaris Space Marines. Once again, Astartes proudly bear the livery of this once-extinct Chapter, and like their forebears, zealously take the fight to the various enemies that assail the Imperium on all sides. With the re-formation of the Templars Moline the Hell Warders have been re-forged anew. However, only time will tell whether or not these new Astartes will live up to the heroic legacy of their forebears.
Chapter History
Founding
Chapter Banner of the Templars Moline.
The tale of the Templars Moline began sometime in the latter centuries of M35. This tumultuous era saw the Imperium beset by such tragic events as the Nova Terra Interregnum, the Moirae Schism and the Cataclysm of Souls. The Imperium was rife with civil discourse and strife. To help restore order, the High Lords of Terra authorised a series of several Foundings of new Adeptus Astartes Chapters that took place between 975-991.M35. The 14th Founding was one such Founding that occurred during this time. Surviving records relating to this particular Founding are said to depict the gene-smiths of the Adeptus Mechanicus taking extraordinary care to ensure the Chapters created were of the highest purity. Dictates from the High Lords ensured that the majority of the newly incepted chapters of this founding wear created using the genetic material of Roboute Guilliman or Rogal Dorn.
The reasons for such drastic measures undertaken in the creation of the Chapters of this particular founding may very well have their roots in the after-effects of the mysterious 13th Founding, the so-called 'Dark Founding'. All records relating to this tumultuous event have long since been eradicated or lost within the labyrinthine bureaucracy of the Imperium, leaving behind only supposition and fevered assumption. Those few individuals aware of exactly what transpired during those dark days would seem unprepared to divulge their secrets. Whatever exactly occurred, it is clear that the myopic focus upon genetic purity that characterised the Chapters of the 14th Founding.
One of the Chapters that were created at that time was derived from the genetic lineage of the 'Praetorian of Terra' - the stoic and taciturn Rogal Dorn - one of Humanity's greatest heroes. To ensure the finest gene-stock was utilised in this newly incepted Chapter's creation, adepts of the Magos Bioligis decided to utilise one of the finest stocks available - that of the fervently dedicated and unforgiving Black Templars. A zealous and fanatical Chapter, these eternal crusaders seek nothing less than to crush every last enemy of Mankind. Their newly created Successor Chapter named themselves the Templars Moline in honour of their progenitors, and like their genetic forebears, inherited their raw zeal and drive to prosecute the enemies of Mankind - fired with righteous anger and driven to avenge every wrong ever done to the Imperium by the heretic, apostate, daemonic and xenos.
Their first Chapter Master, Timon Thornbur, was chosen to lead the newly incepted Chapter following its constitution during the 14th Founding. Assuming the title of Grand Marshal, Timon was a natural choice to assume leadership of the newly formed Chapter, as he epitomised the spirit of the Black Templars, being both zealous in his faith and unyielding in his resolve. He organised the Chapter in accordance to his will, forging the transhuman warriors of the Templars Moline to serve as exemplars for humanity; fervent in their faith in the Emperor and possessing undying devotion to mankind.
Grand Master Thornbur defined the very essence of the Templars Moline during their earliest days. Driven by a burning hatred for the enemies of the Emperor, he propelled his Chapter to achieve monumental feats that few could match. Only total victory could be achieved, as anything less would be considered an affront to the God-Emperor. The Grand Master's uncompromising approach made him a natural choice to lead the newly formed Templars Moline. The Chapter would carry forward the martial traditions and zealous fervour of their genetic forebears across the width and breadth of the galaxy.
The Hell Crusades
Little is known of the Templars Moline's early campaigns following their formation, but what is certain is that they were forged in the crucible of faith and war, carrying the indomitable spirit of their progenitors, the Black Templars. Upon assuming command of the newly formed Chapter, Grand Marshal Timon Thornbur, a figure of legendary renown, sought to honour the legacy of their spiritual patriarch, the first High Marshal of the Black Templars - Sigismund. In doing so, Thornbur made a solemn vow, mirroring the sacred oath taken by every successive High Marshal of the Black Templars: the Templars Moline would prove their undying loyalty to the God-Emperor, never resting in their sacred duty to purge the galaxy of the Imperium's enemies and ensure that mankind would achieve its manifest destiny as the rightful rulers of the stars.
With this oath, the Templars Moline embarked on a path that would define them as a Crusading Chapter, one whose relentless zeal would bring the blinding light of their faith to the darkest corners of the galaxy. They would root out the evil and corruption that sought to bring about mankind's downfall, driving back the forces of Chaos, xenos, and heretics wherever they were found. This unyielding devotion to their cause caught the attention of the High Lords of Terra, who, impressed by their supreme faith and loyalty, assigned the newly formed Chapter to a permanent station within Sector Occident Prime.
This sector was an ancient and populous region within the Segmentum Solar, located less than a thousand light-years from Holy Terra itself, making it a sector of critical importance to the Imperium. However, it was also plagued by the constant threat of the twin warp anomalies known as the Hellgates. These accursed rifts in reality were gateways to the Realm of Chaos, from which daemonic invasions, insurrections and other horrors periodically poured forth, threatening the stability of the entire sector. Several worlds of the sector were beset by Chaos cults, rebellions, and piracy, making it a perpetual battlefield in the Imperium's eternal war against the Ruinous Powers. Given its proximity to Terra, the sector was of paramount importance, and the defence of its worlds was a sacred duty entrusted to the most zealous of the Emperor's warriors.
The Templars Moline's early history is particularly marked by their participation in the First Hell Crusade, a monumental and bloody conflict that would define their role within the sector. This crusade was ignited by a massive Chaos incursion led by a vast Slaaneshi warhost, which erupted from the Ashaklun Gate, one of the twin Hellgates. The daemonic legions, driven by the perverse desires and madness of their dark patron, sought to corrupt and consume the worlds of the sector, plunging them into anarchy and despair.
The First Hell Crusade would embroil the entire sector in nearly a century-long struggle against the Forces of Chaos. The Templars Moline, alongside their fellow Hell Warders, became the vanguard of the Imperium's defence, leading countless assaults to reclaim worlds, purge heretical cults, and ultimately drive the daemonic invaders back into the hellish realms from which they came. The campaign was gruelling, with many worlds teetering on the brink of ruin before the tide was turned. Yet, through sheer tenacity and unwavering faith, the Templars Moline helped secure victory, their actions cementing their reputation as a relentless and unyielding Chapter. Their prowess in this conflict hinted at their legacy as Sons of Dorn, warriors forged in the fires of battle and tempered by the crucible of war.
Castigation Crusade
Despite their growing renown, the Templars Moline remained somewhat enigmatic, a shadowy force whose true nature was not fully understood by the wider Imperium. Their existence became more widely recognized during the Second Hell Crusade, where their role within the Hell Warders was finally solidified. However, this rise to prominence was cut tragically short during the ill-fated Castigation Crusade of 742.M41. In what would become one of the greatest mysteries and tragedies of the Hell Warders' history, the entire Chapter fleet of the Templars Moline, along with its full complement of Astartes, vanished without a trace into the very warp rifts they had sworn to guard.
The Hell Warders, stricken by the loss of their staunchest allies, conducted an exhaustive search, scouring the treacherous edges of the warp for any sign of their lost brethren. Despite their best efforts, no trace of the Templars Moline was ever found, and two years later, the Chapter was officially declared lost. This event marked a dark chapter in the history of the Hell Warders, a brotherhood forever diminished by the loss of such a stalwart and heroic Chapter.
Rising from the Ashes
For centuries, the Templars Moline remained a memory, a ghost story told by those who ventured too close to the Hellgates, their name whispered with reverence and sorrow by those who remembered their past deeds. Yet, as the galaxy teetered on the brink of annihilation with the destruction of Cadia and the catastrophic formation of the Cicatrix Maledictum, a new hope emerged. In the dawning days of the 42nd Millennium, with the advent of the Ultima Founding, the Templars Moline were reborn, rising from the ashes of their former demise. This new incarnation of the Chapter is comprised entirely of Primaris Space Marines, the next generation of transhuman warriors, who carry within them the legacy of their fallen predecessors. The Templars Moline have returned to the Imperium's service, ready to reclaim their legacy and continue their sacred duty as defenders of Sector Occident Prime and the wider galaxy.
With their reformation, the Hell Warders have been reforged anew, their brotherhood restored with the return of the Templars Moline. However, this rebirth comes with its own set of challenges. The galaxy is darker and more dangerous than ever before, and the new iteration of the Templars Moline must prove themselves worthy of the heroic legacy of their forebears. They carry the weight of history on their shoulders, a history filled with honour, tragedy, and the unrelenting pursuit of the Emperor's will.
Only time will tell if these new Astartes can live up to the storied past of their forebears, but with their rebirth, a new chapter in the saga of the Templars Moline has begun. The fires of war will once again test their mettle, and in the crucible of battle, they will either rise as heroes or fall into the shadows of their predecessors, their fate forever intertwined with the Hellgates they have sworn to protect.
Notable Campaigns
Chapter Homeworld
The Templars Moline, much like their forebears, are a nomadic Chapter without a single home world. Instead, they make their homes aboard their vast and formidable Crusade fleets. These fleets are composed of a wide array of vessels, including battle barges, strike cruisers, training ships, and massive forge-ships, each serving a crucial role in the Chapter's ongoing crusades across the galaxy. Living in these fleets, the Templars Moline are constantly on the move, eternally prepared to bring the Emperor's justice to the farthest reaches of the Imperium.
As part of their crusading tradition, the Templars Moline establish Chapter Keeps on every world they conquer or reclaim for the Emperor. These Chapter Keeps serve dual purposes: they are recruitment centers where new Space Marines are drawn from the local population, and they act as staging posts where the Chapter can muster its forces, prepare for upcoming campaigns, and maintain a presence on strategic worlds. These keeps are bastions of Imperial power, strategically placed to secure the Chapter's influence in the regions they protect.
While the Chapter Keeps are sizeable, with the capacity to accommodate two to three Companies of Space Marines, they are far smaller and less fortified than the fortress-monasteries maintained by other Chapters. However, the sheer number of these keeps, established over millennia, makes up for their individual size. Some of these keeps have stood for centuries, becoming symbols of Imperial dominance in their respective regions, while others have fallen into ruin, abandoned or destroyed over the course of time. Nevertheless, the network of Chapter Keeps across the galaxy ensures that the Templars Moline can swiftly muster their forces and strike at their enemies, no matter where they are.
Chapter Flagship
At the heart of the Templars Moline's Crusade fleets is their awe-inspiring flagship, the Indomitable Will. A towering and majestic vessel this ancient battle barge stands as both a cornerstone of the Chapter's military might and a profound symbol of their unwavering loyalty to the God-Emperor. Its name, Indomitable Will, captures the essence of the Chapter's enduring resilience and unforgiving nature; a ship that has faced countless trials over several millennia, remaining steadfast.
Constructed during the Great Crusade, the Indomitable Will is a Warspite-class battle barge, designed to spread Imperial Truth and the Emperor's vision for a united humanity across the stars. Over millennia of service, it has been continually enhanced and transformed into a mobile fortress of unparalleled capability. This evolution mirrors the Chapter's unrelenting pursuit of perfection, refusing to allow age, enemies, or the ravages of war to diminish their readiness.
The Indomitable Will is a masterpiece of design and function. Its docking facilities accommodate entire escort fleets, while its augmented launch bays and expanded living quarters enable it to carry twice the Space Marines typical for a battle barge. Armed with devastating weaponry and encased in near-impenetrable armour and void shielding, the vessel is not only a formidable engine of war but a sanctuary for those within its sanctified halls. Every feature embodies the Chapter's dual mission: to destroy the enemies of the Imperium while preserving the warriors who serve its cause.
Yet this ship transcends its role as a war machine. The Indomitable Will serves as the Templars Moline's mobile fortress-monastery and operational nerve center, where the Grand Marshal himself resides. From its command deck, he directs the Chapter's Crusades across the width and breadth of the Imperium utilising a combination of strategic brilliance and spiritual leadership. The ship's vast corridors and chapels hum with hymns and prayers, offering solace and purpose to its warriors. For the Astartes stationed aboard, the ship is not just a vessel; it is a monument to their heritage, a sacred space where the past meets the present in their shared mission to protect humanity.
In battle, the presence of the Indomitable Will is both inspiring and intimidating. A true leviathan, it emerges from the void adorned with Gothic buttresses and statues of Imperial saints and heroes, bristling with an arsenal capable of decimating fleets. Its hangars release squadrons of Thunderhawks, strike craft and drop pods, delivering the Chapter's warriors to a planet's surface with precision and ferocity. Whether leading planetary assaults or serving as the strategic hub for system-wide operations, the Indomitable Will embodies the Chapter's unyielding resolve.
For the Templars Moline, this flagship is more than a tool of war - it is a beacon of hope, a rallying point for their eternal Crusade against the darkness. It carries not only their warriors but their ideals, traditions, and the unshakeable spirit of their gene-sire Rogal Dorn. As it sails across the stars, the Indomitable Will casts the Emperor's light into the darkness of the galaxy's most shadowed corners, reminding allies and enemies alike of the God-Emperor's enduring power. In an era of constant strife, it stands as a towering testament to resilience, unity, and the Chapter's unwavering dedication to defending humanity.
Chapter Organisation
Similarly to the Black Templars, the Templars Moline are also organised in a different manner to many Codex Chapters and do not strictly follow the dictates of the Codex Astartes especially in terms of organization, recruitment, and training. Unlike many Codex-compliant Chapters, the Templars Moline do not have a dedicated Scout Company where new recruits can prove their mettle before becoming full-fledged Space Marines. Instead, they have developed alternative methods to evaluate and hone the skills of their recruits. This divergence from the standard practices is a reflection of their unique heritage and the demands of their eternal crusades.
Like their genetic forebears, the Templars Moline also possess no Chapter homeworld of their own. Instead, they operate and live aboard their Crusade fleets, which are constantly on the move, ever-vigilant and ready for battle. This nomadic existence ensures that the Templars Moline maintain a high level of battle-readiness at all times, as they must always be prepared to respond to threats across the galaxy. Their fleets are not just mobile war machines but also serve as their homes, training grounds, and sanctuaries.
To maintain their numbers and expand their influence, the Templars Moline establish Chapter keeps on every world they conquer or reclaim for the Imperium. These keeps serve a dual purpose: they provide a steady source of new recruits drawn from the local population, and they act as staging posts for the Chapter's crusade fleets. These keeps are fortified bastions of Imperial power, often becoming symbols of hope and defiance in the regions they protect.
The Templars Moline are rarely assembled as a full Chapter. Instead, they are divided into multiple Crusades, each led by a Knight-Marshal (equivalent to a Captain or Force Commander in a Codex-compliant Chapter). The Grand Marshal, the Chapter's supreme leader, oversees all ongoing Crusades, ensuring that each one aligns with the Chapter's overall strategic goals. This decentralized structure allows the Templars Moline to conduct multiple operations across the galaxy simultaneously, striking at the enemies of the Imperium wherever they may be found.
Historically, the Templars Moline have demonstrated an ability to muster significant forces when necessary. During the Age of Apostasy, a dark period of civil strife within the Imperium, the Templars Moline had nearly a dozen Crusades fighting across the Segmentum Solar. At times, their combined strength rivalled that of several Companies from a Codex Chapter, showcasing their immense martial power and strategic reach.
Despite their dispersed nature, the Templars Moline are far more numerous than most conventional Chapters, though their exact numbers are a closely guarded secret. Their presence is most heavily concentrated around the dual warp-rifts known as the Hellgates, where they serve as vigilant guardians against the Forces of Chaos and other warp-spawned horrors. The Templars Moline's ability to operate effectively across such a vast area is a testament to their disciplined organization, unyielding faith, and unwavering commitment to their eternal crusade.

Chapter Practices
Like their Progenitors, the Templars Moline have adopted the practice of wrapping dense black chains or bindings around their arms to represent the face that they will not give up their weapons until the battle is done:
Templars Moline bolter with manacle and Devotion Chain.
- Devotion Chain - Most Templars Moline use Devotion Chains to bind their weapons to their fists on the eve of battle, removing them only once victory is achieved. This tradition harkens back to the bygone era of the Great Crusade. The tradition of using chains to bind weapons to one's arms was originally started by the World Eaters when they were still the Loyalist XIIth Legion, a tradition which eventually spread to the other Space Marine Legions after its popularity had extended beyond the World Eaters' fighting pits. Sigismund, then a First Captain of the Imperial Fists (and much later, patriarch and first High Marshal of the Black Templars), took to the custom with his usual zeal, binding his knightly weapons to his wrists on dense black chains. He had made an impressive name for himself within the bowels of Primarch Angron's flagship, Conqueror, duelling with the XIIth Legion's finest warriors late in the Great Crusade. This tradition was passed on to the Astartes of the Black Templars, whom in turn passed this tradition on to their Templars Moline descendants.
- Chain of Zeal - Unlike the Devotion Chain, the Chain of Zeal is no such fleeting token. It is secured to weapon and armour with a permanent weld that lasts as long as the Space Marine serves. Furthermore, because taking off a gauntlet with the chain still attached is a shameful act that entails great dishonour, the wearer of the Chain of Zeal must keep his armoured glove donned and weapon in hand every minute for the rest of his days.
Chapter Recruitment
The Templars Moline's recruitment process is a rigorous and selective endeavour, reflecting the Chapter's commitment to maintaining the purity and prowess of its warriors. Each year, the Chapter scours its recruiting worlds, seeking out a few exceptional individuals who may possess the physical and spiritual qualities necessary to become Templars Moline. These potential recruits are thoroughly examined by the Apothecaries and Chaplains, who assess their physical fitness, mental resilience, and spiritual purity. Only those deemed pure enough are initiated into the sacred transformation process that will, over time, turn them into Space Marines.
The initial stage of this transformation involves the implantation of the first of the many specialised organs that are necessary to create a Space Marine. These organs, such as the Secondary Heart and the Catalepsean Node, begin the complex process of augmenting the recruit's body, preparing them for the demanding life of an Astartes. However, not all who undergo these procedures will survive or prove themselves worthy of further advancement. The recruits are continuously monitored, and only those who display exceptional fortitude and potential are selected to continue their journey.
When approximately two dozen of those recruits (now deemed Supplicants) whom the Apothecaries and Chaplains have deemed worthy are ready for additional implants and further training, they are despatched to one of the Crusade fleets of the Templars Moline for further training. These fleets are the lifeblood of the Chapter, constantly engaged in the Emperor's wars across the galaxy. It is within these fleets that the next phase of the Supplicants' transformation takes place, under the watchful eyes of the Chapter's seasoned warriors.
Upon arrival at a Crusade fleets, the Squires (Neophytes) are put through many gruelling trials. These trials are overseen by the battle-hardened veterans, known as Preceptor-Brothers. These warriors are not only masters of war but also deeply knowledgeable in the Chapter's traditions and spiritual practices. The trials they administer are designed to push the Squires to their absolute limits, testing their strength, endurance, martial skills, and, perhaps most importantly, their faith. The trials are brutal and unforgiving, reflecting the harsh realities of the life that awaits them as full-fledged Space Marines.
For those Squires who survive and satisfy the Preceptor-Brothers of their worth, the path forward involves even more intense and personalized training. Each Squire is assigned to a single Preceptor-Brother, who takes on the solemn responsibility of guiding and moulding the young recruit. This bond between Squire and Preceptor-Brother is sacred, rooted in ancient oaths sworn before the Chapter's Chaplains. The Preceptor-Brother teaches the Squire not just the arts of war but also the ways of worship, instilling in him the deep spiritual convictions that define the Templars Moline.
The relationship between Squire and Preceptor-Brother is multifaceted. In addition to rigorous battlefield training, the Squire also serves as a personal attendant to his master. In the great feasting halls of the Chapter, the Squire waits on his Preceptor-Brother, attending to his needs and learning the customs and traditions of the Chapter through direct observation and service. On the battlefield, the Squire fights alongside his Preceptor-Brother, learning the ways of war through direct experience and the example set by his mentor. This hands-on approach to training is a hallmark of the Templars Moline, and it ensures that each Squire gains invaluable experience in a wide variety of combat situations.
Unlike many other Space Marine Chapters, the Templars Moline do not maintain a dedicated Scout Company. Instead, the Squires are distributed throughout the Chapter, integrated into various Fighting Companies where they serve alongside fully initiated battle-brothers. This decentralized approach to training allows the Squires to experience the full breadth of the Chapter's combat operations, from siege warfare to rapid assault, from boarding actions to pitched battles on the surface of alien worlds. The personal attention they receive from their Preceptor-Brothers ensures that their training is thorough and that they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
The training of a Squire is overseen by the Chapter's Chaplains, who ensure that both Squire and Preceptor-Brother uphold the spiritual and martial standards of the Templars Moline. The duration of a Squire's training is not fixed; it continues for as long as the Preceptor-Brother deems necessary. During this time, the Squire must prove his courage, skill, and faith repeatedly, for failure in any of these areas could mean death. If a Squire demonstrates the qualities expected of a Space Marine to the satisfaction of both his Preceptor-Brother and the Chaplains, he is elevated to the rank of Armiger-Brother, officially joining one of the Chapter's Fighting Companies as a full-fledged battle-brother.
However, the path to becoming an Armiger-Brother is fraught with peril. Should a Squire's Preceptor-Brother fall in battle before the training is complete, the Squire's future hangs in the balance. Another Preceptor-Brother may choose to take up the training of the orphaned Squire, but this decision is not made lightly. The new mentor must judge whether the Squire is worthy of his wisdom and effort, assessing whether the young warrior has the potential to honour the memory of his fallen predecessor and continue his path toward becoming a Templar Moline.
In this way, the training process of the Templars Moline is as much a test of the Chapter's values and traditions as it is of the individual Squire's abilities. Those who emerge from this crucible of trials are not just physically and mentally transformed; they are spiritually reborn as warriors of the Emperor, ready to take their place among the ranks of the Templars Moline and to carry forward the Chapter's ancient legacy.
Chapter Gene-Seed
As was the intent at the time of their Founding, the gene-seed of the Templars Moline remained stable and showed no signs of mutation or Chaotic contamination. Its purity was unquestioned. However, the Templars Moline had also inherited their genetic forebears' raw zeal and unrelenting drive, each Battle-Brother an exemplar of the crusading warrior-knight, fired with righteous fury and raw zeal yet to be tempered by the experience born of duty. The drive of the Black Templars became instilled in the new Chapter from the beginning. The processes by which their gene-stock was cultivated imbued it in future generations on a genetic level.
When not engaged in battle, the brethren of the Templars Moline were invariably to be found preparing for it. They passed their time in prayer and meditation, or engaged in exacting training rituals. Those Initiates entrusted with the training of a Neophyte spent long hours passing on their knowledge to their young pupil and supervising endless drills, practice sessions, and trials. The brethren frequently imposed upon themselves many hardships, foregoing all but the bare necessities in order to purify themselves in the eyes of the Emperor and their Primarch, and to emulate the example of their gene-sire Rogal Dorn.
Primarch's Curse: Crusaders Call
The Templars Moline were devoted servants of the Emperor and never refused the call-to-arms or the chance to join a Crusade against the enemies of the Imperium. During the millennia of their existence, this became a well-known aspect of the Chapter and elements of the Templars Moline participated in hundreds of crusades across the galaxy. As a fleet-based Chapter, they never refused a call to duty and took it as a mark of honour and pride that their Chapter had such a valorous history.
When the Chapter's genetic curse manifested in one of its battle-brothers, it usually progressed in three stages:
- Stage 1 - Unending Valour: The Battle-Brother has become filled with pride in the history of his Chapter's bravery and devotion and sees his own existence as a vital part of continuing its traditions. When his squad is required to do its duty he will make sure that it is carried out, squashing any doubt his fellow Battle-Brothers might have or any weakness they might show in the face of honour.
- Stage 2 - Duty through Sacrifice: True duty can only be proven in death or an equally potent sacrifice, a fact which is known to all true servants of the God-Emperor. The Battle-Brother knows that to prove himself he must be the one to stand in the way of the blade or shield his comrades from the blast, so that there can be no doubt about his devotion or his loyalty to the Emperor.
- Stage 3 - Lead the Charge: In boarding actions, the greatest honour goes to those first through the breech and first to face the foe. The Battle-Brother accepts that he must take this role as his honour demands it, and it is just another way to prove his courage and loyalty in the eyes of his peers. If there is a choice or a chance to lead a charge or be the first to face the enemy, the Battle-Brother must take it. Furthermore he will seek out such opportunities, volunteering for dangerous duties if they mean he will get to lead others into the fray. In combat, the Battle-Brother will also seek out the most dangerous or powerful-looking foes, even at the cost of ignoring closer or more pressing enemies to his brethren's tactical disadvantage.
Combat Doctrine
Deathwatch Service
A Templars Moline Preceptor-Brother departs for the Long Watch with the Deathwatch (ca. M41).
Since their inception, the battle-brothers of the Templars Moline have served with distinction in the ranks of the Deathwatch, the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Xenos. The Chapter's history within the Deathwatch is steeped in valour and honour, with many of its greatest heroes counted among those who have undertaken the Long Watch. Though the names and deeds of these warriors are enshrined in the annals of the Deathwatch, these records remain sealed, accessible only to the most privileged and high-ranking members of the Imperium. Despite this secrecy, the legacy of the Templars Moline within the Deathwatch is one of excellence, their warriors renowned for their unwavering zeal and unbreakable faith.
The tragic destruction of the Chapter during the Castigation Crusade in the latter centuries of M41 marked a dark chapter in their history. Officially declared lost after their entire fleet vanished into the warp, only a handful of Preceptor-Brothers, still serving the Long Watch, remained. These survivors, bound by shame for not having stood alongside their brothers in their final moments, made the solemn decision to become Blackshields. In doing so, they cast off their Chapter's livery, severing all ties to their past, and obscured their heraldry, choosing to live out their days as anonymous warriors within the ranks of the Deathwatch. Through this act of self-imposed exile, they continued to serve the Imperium, channeling their grief and guilt into relentless devotion to the destruction of the Imperium's enemies.
For the next two centuries, the name of the Templars Moline was spoken of with reverence and awe, their final stand against the Forces of Chaos becoming the stuff of legend. Their relics, weapons, and gene-seed were preserved within the reliquaries and stasis vaults of the Deathwatch's watch-fortresses, awaiting a time when the Chapter might rise again. The Templars Moline were not forgotten, and their heroic legacy continued to inspire those who served in the Long Watch.
Preceptor-Brother Bertrand Navarre, one of the first Templars Moline to once again perform the Long Watch with the Deathwatch.
With the dawning of the 42nd Millennium and the reconstitution of the Templars Moline during the Ultima Founding, the Chapter was reborn. Once again, their warriors began to walk the path of the Long Watch, sending worthy Preceptor-Brothers to serve in the Deathwatch. These newly inducted warriors quickly proved themselves worthy successors to their forebears, carrying on the legacy of the Templars Moline with pride and honour. Within the Deathwatch, the Templars Moline became known for their fierce determination, their unwavering faith, and their unrelenting zeal. They are ideal members of a Kill-team, though their fiery nature can sometimes put them at odds with their more measured or stealth-oriented comrades.
Templars Moline Preceptor-Brothers are warriors who never back down from a challenge, and their reluctance to retreat in the face of overwhelming odds is both their greatest strength and their most significant flaw. A mission requiring stealth and observation can be compromised if a Templar Moline decides to engage an enemy rather than simply observe. Their zealous nature makes them fierce combatants, but it also makes them difficult to rein in, particularly in situations where patience and subtlety are required.
Because of this, only the most self-disciplined and open-minded Templars Moline are seconded to the Deathwatch. The strain on their minds as they work alongside battle-brothers from other Chapters - each with their own distinct cults and traditions - is enormous. To serve with psykers, whether they be Librarians from other Chapters or the Ordo Xenos' psychically-gifted Inquisitors, is a challenge to their faith and tolerance. The Templars Moline are staunchly orthodox in their beliefs, and working with psykers can test their patience and resolve to the very limits.
Despite these challenges, a Templars Moline does not suppress his essential nature when serving in the Deathwatch. On the contrary, his righteousness and zeal are his greatest weapons on the field of battle. These qualities allow him to face and overcome the most terrifying enemies of the Imperium. Whether standing firm against the vile xenos, the traitorous heretic, or the daemonic horrors that threaten humanity, the Templars Moline fight with the burning fury of their faith, their belief in the Emperor's divine will guiding their every strike.
In the Deathwatch, the Templars Moline are more than just warriors; they are living embodiments of the Emperor's wrath, a testament to the enduring legacy of the Chapter that was once lost but has now risen anew to continue the eternal crusade in His name.

Chapter Fleet
- Indomitable Will (Warspite-class Battle Barge) - An ancient vessel, this formidable vessel currently serves as the flagship of the Templars Moline's mighty Chapter fleet. Essentially, it serves as the Chapter's mobile fortress-monastery, home of the Templars' Reclusiam, primary armouries, vaults and reliquaries containing all of the Chapter's relics and precious artefacts.
- Sigismund's Wrath (Maelstrom-class Galleas of War) - A formidable vessel of ancient providence, this noteworthy but relatively uncommon type of warship was a 'pocket battleship' - something between a battleship and cruiser in size and firepower. The Galleas of War was equivalent to a Grand Cruiser (though much larger physically), much of whose fabric was given over to freight and transport capacity, while still maintaining formidable armaments and defence. This relic vessel was gifted to the Templars Moline upon their inception. It was ideal for deploying for range, without requiring significant resupply or refit. Sigismund's Wrath was ideal for deep-range explorations into unknown regions of space and was ideal to serve as the Chapter's flagship. Tragically, this mighty vessel was lost with all in hands during the Castigation Crusade in 742.M41.

Chapter Appearance
Chapter Colours
Templars Moline Firstborn Preceptor-Sergeant displaying his Chapter's bold colours.
The Templars Moline primarily wear dark blue coloured battle-plate, with areas of their battle-plate painted white in colour, including backpack, faceplate and shoulder pauldron insets. The shoulder pauldron trim, couters (elbow guards) and wrists are painted red. As the Chapter icon is prominently displayed on both shoulder pauldrons, the red coloured squad specialty symbol, which designated a battle-brother's assigned specialty (Fire Support, Close Support, Battleline, Veteran or Command) is stencilled upon the right poleyn (knee guard), which is white in colour.
The left poleyn, which is coloured red, displays a white coloured Roman numeral that designates a battle-brother's assigned company. Like their progenitors, the Astartes of the Templars Moline also decorated their armour with devotional imagery, litanies and both Purity and Crusader Seals.
The Chapter has always been known for vehemently refusing to use camouflage (even Codex-approved patterns) as the "livery of curs", for its Astartes believed in boldly wearing the chosen livery of their Chapter as a visible sign to their foes of the destruction and cleansing they bring.
Amongst the upper echelons of the Chapter, the use of deaths-heads and other symbols of survival against all odds and the scorn of mortal fear are also quite common. Templars Moline Astartes are also known to customarily modify their armour as they see fit, decorating their ceramite plate with personal heraldry in order to display their achievements of battle prowess as well as the battles in which they have fought.
Seals of Crusades Remembered
Example Crusade Seals that decorate the battle-plate of the Templars Moline.
In their original iteration, the Templars Moline were a Chapter steeped in tradition, their existence spanning millennia, and their identity deeply intertwined with a rich tapestry of sacred oaths and ancient customs. Like their forbears, the current iteration of the Templars Moline endevour to uphold their forebear's ancient and time-honoured traditions. Every aspect of the reconstituted Chapter reflects their deep reverence for history and tradition, from the weapons they wield in battle to the ornate armour they don, and the heraldry that adorns their battle-plate and vehicles. These elements are not just functional but are symbols of the Chapter's long, proud history, each piece carrying with it stories of past glories, sacrifices, and unyielding loyalty to the Emperor.
When the Templars Moline declare a new crusade, it marks the beginning of a sacred and significant event for the Chapter. The Chapter's artificers, master craftsmen who are deeply versed in the Chapter's lore and traditions, are tasked with creating a unique heraldic crest for the crusade. This crest, known as a Crusade Seal, serves as a symbol of unity and purpose for all battle-brothers who partake in the campaign. Each Crusade Seal is meticulously designed, incorporating symbols and colours that resonate with the Chapter's long history. Although each seal is unique, there is a common palette that runs through almost all Templars' heraldry: deep blue, red, white, black, and gold. These colours are not chosen lightly; each carries profound meaning and significance, embodying the virtues and values the Templars Moline hold dear.
The iconography within the Crusade Seals is equally significant. Each icon and symbol used in the seal is carefully selected to convey specific meanings, reflecting the Chapter's values, the nature of the crusade, and the legacy they wish to uphold. The Templars Moline are known for their willingness to honour their allies through these symbols. If an ally has proven themselves especially deserving, the Chapter may incorporate the symbology of their allies into the Crusade Seal. This could include the holy symbols of the Ecclesiarchy, with whom the Templars Moline share a deep spiritual bond, or the militant orders of the Adepta Sororitas, who often fight alongside the Chapter in their crusades. These symbols are a mark of respect and recognition, a testament to the shared devotion and sacrifice in service to the Emperor.
In exceptional cases, the Templars Moline have even been known to incorporate the Chapter badge of other Space Marine Chapters they have fought alongside. This rare honour signifies a deep bond of brotherhood forged in the crucible of battle, a mutual respect that transcends even the fierce pride each Chapter holds in its own identity.
The Crusade Seals are not merely ornamental; they are a source of pride and identity for the warriors who bear them. These seals are typically displayed on tilting shields, a traditional element of their armour that harkens back to the ancient days of knightly combat. However, the seals are not limited to shields alone. They may also be emblazoned on tabards, illuminated upon the shoulder guards, poleyns, or greaves of the battle-brothers, and even inscribed on their weapons. In the case of the Chapter's revered Dreadnoughts, battle-tanks, and aircraft, the Crusade Seals are often painted on a grand scale, writ large across the armoured flanks to announce the presence of the Templars Moline on the battlefield.
In this way, the Templars Moline's Crusade Seals serve as both a link to their storied past and a symbol of their undying commitment to the Emperor. Each seal tells a story, not just of the crusade it represents but of the Chapter's enduring legacy of honour, courage, and faith.
Personal Heraldry
Templars Moline livery shields with example personal heraldry.
In the esteemed ranks of the Templars Moline, personal acts of courage and extreme valour are held in the highest regard. For those battle-brothers who distinguish themselves on the battlefield through such heroic deeds, the Chapter bestows a rare and honoured privilege: the right to display their own personal heraldry. This unique heraldry is more than just a decorative element; it is a profound symbol of honour, courage, individual achievement, and dedication to the Emperor, serving as a lasting testament to the warrior's valorous actions.
The personal heraldry of a battle-brother is typically displayed on a heraldic shield affixed to the left pauldron of their armour. This position is not arbitrary; the left pauldron is one of the most visible and prominent parts of a Space Marine's armour, ensuring that the battle-brother's achievements are recognized by all who see him. While the left pauldron is the most common location for displaying personal heraldry, the Templars Moline also allow for other placements depending on the warrior's preference or the nature of his achievements.
For instance, the heraldry may be emblazoned upon one of the battle-brother's poleyns (knee guards) or greaves. These locations, though less prominent than the pauldron, are no less significant. The poleyns and greaves are symbols of steadfastness and resilience, bearing the weight of the warrior's march into battle and the force of every step taken in the Emperor's service. To display personal heraldry here is to signify that the warrior's courage and valour are foundational to his very being, supporting him in every action he takes on the battlefield.
The heraldic shield itself is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, meticulously created by the Chapter's skilled artificers. These artisans are not only experts in the art of armour crafting but are also deeply versed in the rich traditions and symbolism of the Chapter. Each shield is a bespoke creation, designed to reflect the unique deeds and characteristics of the warrior who has earned the right to bear it. The process of crafting a heraldic shield is a deeply revered practice, often involving the direct input of the battle-brother, who may choose specific symbols, colours, and motifs that hold personal significance or that represent the valorous acts he has performed.
The design of the heraldic shield is rich with meaning. Every element—from the colours used to the symbols depicted—carries specific connotations within the Chapter's long-standing traditions. Deep blue symbolises steadfast loyalty, while red represents the blood shed in righteous combat. Black signifies the solemn duty of a warrior, and gold often denotes honour and excellence. The symbols themselves are chosen with equal care, perhaps depicting a mighty beast to represent the battle-brother's ferocity, a laurel wreath to signify his triumphs, or a sacred icon, such as an Aquila, that reflects his unwavering faith in the Emperor.
The personal heraldry displayed on the shield is not just for the battle-brother's own pride; it serves as a source of inspiration for his fellow warriors. In the midst of battle, when courage and resolve are tested to their limits, a glance at a comrade's heraldic shield can reignite the fighting spirit, reminding them of the Chapter's glorious legacy and the heroism of those who have come before. It is a visual reminder that each member of the Templars Moline is part of a brotherhood that values individual valour and that their deeds will be remembered and venerated.
In all cases, the personal heraldry is a badge of honour that sets the battle-brother apart, marking him as one who has gone above and beyond in service to the Chapter and the Emperor. It is a reminder to all who see it of the warrior's exceptional deeds and a symbol of the unbreakable spirit that defines the Templars Moline. This tradition of personal heraldry not only celebrates individual achievement but also reinforces the Chapter's collective identity, one built on the valour of its members and the enduring legacy of their heroic actions.
Hell Warders Sigil
Sigil of the Hell Warders.
As one of the founding members of the Hell Warders, the newly reconstituted Templars Moline have been honoured by their former brother Chapters with an invitation to once again take up their ancient duties as eternal sentinels. Their charge is the vigilant watch over the dual warp storms known as the Hellgates, as well as Sector Occident Prime, a region of space perpetually threatened by the malevolent forces of the warp. This invitation marks a significant moment in the Chapter's history, reaffirming their role as key defenders of the Imperium against the encroaching horrors of the warp. It is a duty they share with the other Chapters that make up the Hell Warders, a coalition of Space Marine forces united by their common purpose to safeguard the Imperium from the chaotic and unpredictable threats posed by the warp.
In recognition of their membership in this exclusive brotherhood, the Chapters of the Hell Warders have adopted a shared sigil that symbolizes their collective commitment to this sacred duty. This sigil is a powerful emblem, rich in symbolism and meaning. It features a downward stabbing sword, a potent representation of the eternal vigilance and martial prowess required to hold back the tide of the warp. The sword is centered between a pair of dual-swirling warp eddies, stylized depictions of the dreaded Hellgates themselves. These eddies represent the ever-present threat of the warp storms, swirling with chaotic energy and constantly testing the resolve of the Hell Warders. The placement of the sword between these swirling forms symbolizes the unyielding stand of the Hell Warders, who serve as the bulwark against the warp's incursion into realspace.
The sigil of the Hell Warders is more than just a badge of membership; it is a symbol of the heavy responsibility borne by the Templars Moline and their fellow Chapters. This emblem is a visual reminder of the eternal struggle they face, and the collective strength they draw upon to fulfil their duties. It is a mark of honour, signifying the Templars Moline's return to their rightful place as guardians of the Imperium's westernmost borders, where the Hellgates threaten to spill forth untold horrors.
This sigil is typically displayed with great pride by the Battle-Brothers of the Templars Moline. It is often affixed to the side of one of their greaves, where it serves as a constant reminder of the Chapter's sacred duty each time they march into battle. The placement on the greave is symbolic as well, for it is the greaves that bear the weight of every step taken by the Space Marines in defense of the Imperium. By placing the Hell Warders' sigil here, the Templars Moline signify that their commitment to this duty is foundational, a core part of their identity as warriors of the Emperor.
Alternatively, the sigil might also be prominently displayed upon one of their poleyns, another highly symbolic location. The poleyns protect the knees of the Battle-Brothers, and by displaying the sigil here, the Templars Moline underscore the idea that their resolve in facing the threats of the warp is unwavering. It is a declaration that they will not falter, even in the face of overwhelming darkness, and that their knees shall never bend before the Forces of Chaos.
In wearing this sigil, the Templars Moline not only honour their own Chapter's legacy but also reaffirm their bond with the other Chapters of the Hell Warders. Together, they stand as the first and last line of defence against the warp's insidious reach, united by their shared commitment to the protection of the Imperium. The sigil serves as a constant reminder of the peril they guard against and the strength they must summon to hold back the tide of Chaos, no matter the cost.
Chapter Badge
Templars Moline Chapter icon.
The Templars Moline's Chapter badge is a highly symbolic and distinctive emblem, featuring a red stylized heraldic cross, known as the Cross Moline or Cross Anchory, set against a field of white. The Cross Moline is not only a visually striking symbol but is also deeply rooted in heraldic tradition, reflecting the Chapter's knightly origins and their adherence to the ideals of duty, loyalty, and perseverance.
The cross itself, known as a Cross Moline due to its resemblance to a millrind - the iron clamp used to hold the upper millstone in place - evokes a sense of stability and strength. The term moline comes from the Old French word for a mill, emphasizing the sturdy and reliable nature of the design. In heraldry, the Cross Moline is often associated with defensive strength, a fitting parallel for the Templars Moline, who see themselves as the immovable defenders of humanity, grinding down the enemies of the Imperium with relentless efficiency.
This symbol is very similar to one of the varieties of the "fer de moline" heraldic charge (literal French: "iron of a mill"). The forked tips of the Cross Moline, which spread outward and slightly curve at the ends, add a further dimension of protection, symbolizing the Chapter's reach and readiness to defend the Imperium on all fronts. The cross’s distinctive appearance is also closely related to the "cross recercelee", which features similarly curved arms, reinforcing the image of a multi-directional defensive stance, much like the Chapter's wide-ranging crusades and engagements across the galaxy.
At times, the Cross Moline is displayed inverted or rebated, signifying tactical adaptability and the willingness of the Templars Moline to turn any situation to their advantage. When depicted "saltirewise," (in the form of a saltire or "X") the cross takes on an even more aggressive tone, symbolizing the Chapter's capacity to wage war from multiple angles, their zealousness driving them to strike down enemies of the Imperium with precision and force.
The red colour of the Cross Moline further deepens its significance. In heraldic tradition, red represents martyrdom, military strength, and magnanimity. For the Templars Moline, it is a visual reminder of the blood they are willing to shed in the defence of the Imperium and their unyielding commitment to their crusading purpose. The white field behind the cross symbolizes purity, loyalty, and divine purpose, reflecting the Chapter's steadfast faith in the God-Emperor and their unwavering dedication to serving Him. The contrast of red on white highlights the noble sacrifice inherent in their martial existence, as well as their role as the Emperor's righteous warriors, purging corruption and heresy from the galaxy.
This badge, though simple in appearance, is a powerful representation of the Templars Moline's ethos. The Cross Moline, in its many forms and meanings, stands as a testament to the Chapter's unyielding strength, defensive nature, and zeal for battle. The historic and knightly associations of the symbol also reinforce their role as a crusading Chapter, forever on the march, waging war in the name of the Emperor. Their badge serves as a reminder of the ancient, martial traditions they uphold, even as they fight in the brutal and unforgiving future of the 42nd Millennium.

Notable Quotes
By: Templars Moline
- "Blessed be the Master of Mankind, my rock, who raised my arms for battle, who prepares my hands for war.
He is my love, my fortress; he is my stronghold, my saviour, my shield, my place of refuge.
Praise His name for in our resolve we reflect His purpose of will.
I will not weep and wonder what might have been.
For I am wrath! I am His vengeance!
I am the bringer of light to the darkness!"- — Final prayer of Grand Marshal Bertram D'Sable during the Second Hell Crusade
- "Do you see the irony in all this? Not yet it seems, but you will."
- — Prior (Veteran Sergeant) Haytham Kraussar of the 2nd Crusade Host
About: Templars Moline
- "I was there when the Templars Moline fell during the Second Hell Crusade. The forces of the Archenemy seemed endless, merciless, soulless...utterly inhuman, utterly hated. The foe had struck without warning, a massive tide of corrupted filth baying for the blood of the innocent.
The Templars Moline were the first to answer the call, and launched themselves wholesale into the vast Chaos armada that encroached upon the Emperor's realm. They fought like knights of old, with valour, strength and honour.
They fought to the last, their rigehtous anger unleashed upon the creatures of darkness as they put the followers of the Ruinous Powers to bolter and blade.
In the end, they could not be restrained and launched themselves unto the breach and entered the realm of madness unbidden, their litanies of hate filled the vox-channel we shared with the Templars. They chanted their bitter fury at the foes even as they breached the veil between realms.
Such a beautiful death!"- — Lochagos Mikemenes Stoxus, Stategos and Equerry of the Polemarch, commander of the 1st Company of the Spartiate Marines Chapter.
- "It's all a matter of perspective. There is no single path through life that's right and fair and does no harm. Do you truly think the Imperium has no cause? No right to feel betrayed? You should know better than this, dedicated as you are to fighting the Templars - who themselves see their work as just. Think on that the next time you insist your work alone befits the greater good. Your enemy would beg to differ - and would not be without cause."
- — Xeras the Exquisite, Daemon Prince of Chaos to her chief rival, Kyrkee, Daemon Princess of Tzeentch.
