The Steelscale Wyverns are a unique and enigmatic Successor Chapter of the stoic and unforgiving Iron Hands Chapter. Their origins and practices deviate significantly from their progenitors, focusing on the fusion of bio-mechanical augmentation and the distinctive incorporation of metallic scales in between the layers of their skin. These practices have shaped the chapter's personal identity and combat doctrine.
Chapter History
The Steelscale Wyverns' origins can be traced back to a time of dire need. After suffering heavy losses in a protracted conflict, a team of techmarines from various successors of the Iron Hands found their Chapters struggling to maintain their numbers. One element they noticed was that the replacement of organs with machines often led more deceptive or technologically savvy enemies to be able to undermine their mechanics or life support systems. Seeking a solution to ensure their gene-lines continued survival and a way to purge the weakness of flesh, they devised a new method to gain the improvements of machines that would operate without losing the adaptability of organics, the chapters' Apothecaries and Techmarines embarked on a bold experiment - the integration of bio-mechanical technology into their gene-seed organs in the form of various cybernetic implants rather than replacing their limbs or other body parts. These experiments led to the formation of prototypes of practices which they used in the creation of a new chapter, the Steelscale Wyverns alongside the help of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The chapter's early years were marked by trials and errors, as they refined the process of merging cybernetics with organic material.
Notable Campaigns
The Wars of Serrated Scales: The Steelscale Wyverns played a pivotal role in repelling an invasion by a Renegade Alpha Legion warband known as the Serrated Scales Harrow. Their unique enhancements proved invaluable in countering the warband's daemonic allies and the toxins laced in their bolt shells, securing victory and saving the system from falling to the taint of an engineered "gene-venom" made by the Creations of Bile. The Steelscale Wyverns' unrelenting pursuit of harmony between flesh and machine continues to shape their legacy as a formidable and technologically advanced force within the Imperium.
Chapter Homeworld
The Steelscale Wyverns' fortress-monastery is located on the planet of Mehkross, a technological marvel known for its advanced cybernetics and bio-mechanical engineering. The chapter's presence has further fueled the planet's reputation as a hub of vat-grown organ manufacture and bionics within the Imperium.

Combat Doctrine
In battle, the Steelscale Wyverns are renowned for the adaptability of their equipment and machines. They seek to analyze combat situations with cold precision, utilizing their unique enhancements to maximize their effectiveness. However, they are also strongly in favor of the use of vehicles, particularly Outriders, which they often deliberately plan to dismount from, offering them the mobility of a vehicle and the stability of infantry. They are equally comfortable engaging in close-quarters combat or providing accurate fire support as their methods offer elements of both. Their tactics often involve a set of rapid surgical strikes, exploiting weaknesses in the enemy's defenses with an efficiency derived from the extensive use of machine spirits and cogitators in their equipment.
This resulted in the development of specialized cybernetic implants in their gene-seed organs that allowed the Chapter to embrace both organic reproducibility and technological efficiency. The Steelscale Wyverns' beliefs and combat tactics reflect their unique origins. They share the Iron Hands' dedication to the Machine God and the pursuit of perfection through the melding of flesh and steel. However, the Steelscale Wyverns have taken a new approach to this manic level of devotion to the Machine Cult found in other sons of Ferrus Manus, incorporating organic machinery within themselves. Central to their identity is the implantation of metallic scales beneath their skin. These scales are not merely symbolic; they serve as both protection and augmentation. The scales enhance the Marines' resilience, granting them heightened resistance to injuries and environmental hazards. Moreover, the scales interface with the last of the chapter's gene-seed organs, the Black Carapace, being able to maintain its gigantic, enabling a remarkably distinctive synergy between the biological systems of their gene-seed organs and mechanical systems designed for other functions not found in Astartes.

Chapter Appearance
Chapter Colours
The most distinctive aspect of the Steelscale Wyverns' appearance is the metallic, scale mail-like protrusions visible beneath their skin. These metallic scales cover their bodies, in scout marines reflecting light in a way that makes them appear like living machines. Over the years, these scales become a badge of honor, signifying the Marine's integration of flesh and biomedical engineering. Their armor is predominantly a reddish beige-brown color (Rhinox Hide) with silver and bone colored elements, albeit unlike other Astartes armors the areas around their nerve-to armour-ports are often adorned with intricate circuitry patterns painted as a display of devotion to the Machine God, the places above the ports are often studded with molecular-bonding studs for added protection.

Chapter Relations
Allies
The Steelscale Wyverns' unorthodox practices have led to mixed reception among other Space Marine chapters. Some view their bio-mechanical augmentation with suspicion, while others recognize the practicality of their enhancements as a way of avoiding the more extreme bionics of others of their gene-line. The Adeptus Mechanicus is particularly intrigued by the refinements they make to their methods, as they blur the line between machine and man. Relations with the Iron Hands are complex. While the Steelscale Wyverns share common beliefs, the divergence in their approach has occasionally caused tensions. Nonetheless, mutual respect remains, rooted in their shared devotion to the power of technology.
