The Steel Angels are a 5th Founding chapter of the Imperial Fists gene-line. They travel the galaxy in a partially reclaimed Space Hulk with no means to guide it, aiding imperial forces wherever it leaves the warp, which seems to be non-random, likely guided by some powerful warp entity.
Chapter History[]
During the 13th Black Crusade, the Steel Angel's homeworld has been at the receiving end of an Ork WAAAGH! which destroyed their homeworld. The Steel Angels saw this coming and were able to evacuate part of the population onto a nearby Space Hulk, the appearance of which had been declared a miracle. Most of the planetary population died during this, either being left to die on the planet, dying to hazards or being slaughtere by the Space Hulk's inhabitants. However, a sizeable living area could be secured at last and the Hulk left before the Orks stormed it as well. The Hulk was then dubbed "The Emperor's Lance".
The official assumption was that the chapter had made an honorable last stand against the Orks and died to the last man. However, the chapter instead underwent heavy reformation as well as traveling wherever the Space Hulk went to. In line with its miraculous appearance, it quickly proofed unlikely that the Emperor's Lance moved randomly since it appeared in real space far, far too often and nearly always in ongoing war zones.
Notable Campaigns[]
The Emperor's Lance[]
The Emperor's Lance is a medium sized Space Hulk which has been partially reclaimed by the Steel Angels. In the reclaimed part, some Gellar Fields have been repaired and large spaces have been made liveable for the civilian population.

Travel[]
Being a bunch of clumped up ships, asteroids and general junk, there is no way to control a Space Hulk without major modification. Neither the Steel Angels nor any of the population have any influence on its course, yet its appearances in real space are far too often and seem far too specific to be caused only by the random ways of the Warp. It is commonly thought on board of the Emperor's Lance that it is the Emperor himself who guides the Hulk wherever its passengers need to be in his eyes.
Chapter Organisation[]
Ranking & Titles[]
A Steel Angel's rank is composed of several parts: His veteran status and the task he fulfills to his chapter at any given time, in addition to any additional titles and honorifics. Some specialist occupations also include another sub-rank to describe his standing within that order of specialists.
These can get quite long. For example, if an Altbruder of the name "Adalbert Bluteisen" was to lead a force into battle, acted out service as a chaplain of the rank of Epistolary and also earned the honorific of blademaster, he would be referred to as "Altbruder Einsatzleiter Blademaster Chaplain Epistolary Adalbert Bluteisen".
General Ranks[]
All Steel Angels are ranked between veterans, non-veterans and scouts. A non-veteran being refered to as "Bruder", a veteran as "Altbruder" and a scout as "Jungbruder".
While Brüder and Jungbrüder make up the bulk of the chapters strength, Altbrüder act not only as veteran fighters but also as the chapters management staff, deciding what actions the chapter should take and acting as leaders whenever required.
Occupation Ranks[]
| Rank | Description |
|---|---|
| Chapter Master | Head of the chapter, also defacto the "king" of the Emperor's Lance, ruling not only the chapter but also civilian affairs, though he is generally less involved in the latter. |
| Einsatzleiter | "Battle leader" is a temporary title that is given to any particular Altbruder who is leading a strike force of any size into battle. This title is unique in that it can be used in addition to any other occupation titles. |
| Chaplain | |
| Librarian | |
| Apothecary |
Specialist Ranks[]
Specialists split themselfes into the usual ranks.
Honorifics[]
There are some honorific titles to be earned in addition to the usual ones. These include the following:
- Blademaster
- Standard Bearer

Chapter Beliefs & Culture[]
Combat Doctrine[]
The Steel Angels always strike at any target with as much force as possible which generally works for reducing casualties while maximizing the effect, though it also means that when things go wrong, they go really wrong. Therefore, the chapters numbers are dwindling and they are closing in on their inevitable annihilation.
Assault tactics[]
When assaulting a position, the Steel Angels generally open up with a shock assault including teleported terminator and drop pods to clear a landing zone for additional troops to be deployed with landing craft. If possible, supporting troops like devastators and tanks will already be deployed nearby to quickly sweep in once the defenders are distracted. Once it is relatively secure, jump assault marines will also jump in to provide close combat support.
Most light or medium defended positions can be taken like this. Taking heavily defended positions is often simply outside the power of the Steel Angel's low numbers and so far, they have managed to avoid this.

Reception by the Imperium[]
Public Reception[]
The Steel Angels have not gained a lot of public reception. While they often participate in battles alongside other imperial forces, those are usually too preoccupied being happy to get some aid by the emperor's avenging angels to put any effort into checking imperial records for the status of the chapter helping them. Their uncommon means of travel often raise some eyebrows though.
Inquisition[]
There has at least one inquisitor from Ordo Hereticus being petty enough to actually check imperial records for plausibility after being told of a supposed loyalist chapter traveling aboard a Space Hulk. He is currently within the stage of making sure the supposed dead chapter of the Steel Angels within the records is actually the same now traveling the galaxy.

Authors Note[]
Heyo, I am Brother Schinken. This article is still obviously under construction. More will be written down soon. Some more written down lore can be found on the Imperial Fists Discord server in my chapter channel, where I can also be found. But I have been developing the Steel Angels lore since 2019, so most is still only available in my head from where I will write it down whenever I feel like it. If you have any feedback or criticism, feel free to let me know. I am always thankful for any input :D
While this article is mine and may not be edited by others, feel free to "aquire" as much as you like as long as you dont work to misrepresent my chapter.
