The Star Crusaders are a relative young Loyalist Space Marine Chapter founded in M39 during the 24th Founding as a fleet-based Chapter to conduct space warfare, low/zero-g combat as well as a rapid response against enemy fleets who were able to penetrate deep into the Imperium. The Chapter's most notable battles were against the Tyranid Hive Fleet Leviathan which attacked the galaxy in two directions from below. Such an attack was the example why the Chapter had been formed and currently is engaged with the remaining part of this hive fleet.
History
The Chapter was recruited between 589.M39 and 599.M39. It is speculated that the Chapter was active already in 565.M39 but dramatically undermanned, maybe even on a level of a Company and some thousand chapter serfs. The Chapter was at first novercal handled, even although it was already known how important their role is. But until mid M40 the Chapter was understrength and had often to operate with the Imperial Navy assets, which bonded each party together.
The turning point was the events prior to the Hellfest Crusade. Enemy forces started a rebellion and started moving into other systems but were driven off by a Star Crusaders fleet.
Now at the beginning of the 42nd millennium, the Star Crusaders are engaging the spearhead of the Hive Fleet Leviathan.
Notable Campaigns
- Hellfest Crusade (unknown.M39): The first full Chapter war for the Star Crusaders. They were the first Chapter facing action against the enemies. And one of the few Chapters taking part in this crusade. The Hellfest Crusade is infamous for its secondary for all sides which meant that both sides engaged in few offensives and fought more one civil war-torn worlds.
- Battle in the Fardan Subsector (997-999.M41): The biggest space battle for the Chapter yet. Chapter Master Norman Gatblade ordered a massive hit-and-run campaign with the use of long-range weapons and bombs decorated with biological material to nimble away parts of the Hive Fleet. As a result, the Chapter lost 17 vessels and more damaged and killed 78 giant bio-ships and 89 other sized bio-ships.
