The Space Drakes are a 24th Founding, semi-Codex-compliant Salamanders Successor Chapter, created exclusively to protect the highly industrialized Termentus Rift region. The Chapter once had a homeworld, Noxius, but a Chaos invasion took it away from them. Due to their highly overextended area of operations, the Chapter crafted a unique doctrine focusing on rapid response task forces. Frequently, battle brothers of each company find themselves in demi-company rapid response forces, allowing most Space Drakes to respond relatively quickly to any pleas for reinforcements from their Imperial allies.
The Chapter is characterized by their care for civilians, often coming to blows with other Chapters to protect them. They extensively use flamers and mechanized warfare to swiftly move to their opponents and demolish them in close-quarters combat. Their forging skills are renowned, with a significant portion of the Chapter's arsenal being custom-crafted, from simple bolters to battle brothers who combine different patterns of armor into a single suit. The Chapter maintains a highly beneficial relationship with the Adeptus Mechanicus, frequently sending battle brothers to assist the Mechanicus in their endeavors. In exchange, they gain access to relic wargear, resulting in a relatively large amount of older power armor marks, which are often combined with other power armors.
Despite their relatively short but bloodied history, filled with glorious victories and defeats, the Chapter remains relatively unknown outside of the Tarmentus Rift and nearby sectors. Nonetheless, the Chapter has remained steadfastly loyal to the Imperium and is known for its unwavering loyalty.
The Chapter also utilizes a small number (by Guard standards) of auxiliary forces called the Noxian Auxilia. This force was formed to assist the Space Drakes in their overextended operations. Due to the dangers associated with giving a force of mortals under the Astartes' command, the Chapter remains transparent with the Inquisition regarding the Auxilia's size, operations, and utilization to avoid trouble.
Chapter History
Genesis of their Founding
The Tarmentus Rift was a resource-rich multi-sector area, quickly brought into the Imperial fold during the Great Crusade by the Ultramarines Legion. The vast area was full of mining, industrial, and civilized worlds, along with mysterious phenomena. As the Great Crusade came to an end, the Great Betrayal known as the Horus Heresy struck the Rift. Dozens of worlds burned under the Warmaster's attacks as the Traitors made their way to Terra. When the Heresy ended and the Emperor was interred on the Golden Throne, once-pacified xenos started to spring up again, along with traitorous warbands raiding the area for resources. The Great Scouring by the Imperium temporarily halted the Chaos incursions, but they eventually resumed, and the Rift's resources were constantly being raided.
Founding
Sometime around the 39th Millennium, a mysterious Salamander named Vos'Tharn was offered the position of Chapter Master for a new Salamanders successor. His origins are shrouded in mystery, and he has become a legend for the Space Drakes as their very first Chapter Master. The Space Drakes embarked on countless battles to protect the worlds of the Tarmentus Rift, quickly developing their own unique war doctrine.
Age of War
The 39th Millennium was a time of constant responses against the xenos and Chaos incursions within the Rift. Countless battles were fought by the battle brothers, and many Space Drakes were killed in action. Numerous Space Drakes rose to fame during this time, and countless civilians were saved from their doom by the Chapter. Many worlds still remember the Space Drakes coming to save them from destruction. The Space Drakes also embarked on crusades whenever possible, striving to prove to the Imperium that they are a worthy Chapter.

The operation involved an alliance of Astra Militarum forces, a solitary Knight House, and the Space Drakes Chapter, who deployed two entire Realms. Alongside them was a contingent from the still-recovering 10th Realm and the swift response of a 1st Realm Strike Force. Their objective was to slow down the advance of a formidable Tyranid Splinter Fleet, but the mission proved to be more challenging than anticipated. The battle commenced with a harrowing space engagement above Nakarato, resulting in heavy casualties for the Imperial forces. The Space Drakes' initial mission was to secure a landing zone, but chaos erupted as Drop Pods were scattered across the battlefield. The 1st Company Strike Force faced annihilation as Tyranids relentlessly poured into their vicinity, while the other landing forces utilized Thunderhawks for deployment. Tragically, three Thunderhawks were lost to Tyranid anti-air weaponry, worsening the situation. Casualties mounted with each passing second. Realizing the dire circumstances, the Space Drakes urgently requested reinforcements. To their immense relief, the Argent Executioners Chapter, accompanied by their Space Drake Primaris reinforcements, answered the call. The battle began to shift in favor of the Imperium as the Argent Executioners and Primaris reinforcements arrived. The Space Drakes, in desperation, swiftly integrated the Primaris reinforcements into their ranks. The Argent Executioners Chapter arrived with unspoken determination, and their silent commitment to the cause was evident. Space Drakes Captain Kaelen Drakar expressed gratitude to the Argent Executioners for their crucial intervention. Slowly but steadily, the tide of battle turned, resulting in victory for the Imperial forces. The Space Drakes, deeply appreciative of the Argent Executioners' pivotal role, harbored a lasting debt of gratitude. The debt remains unspoken but ever-present
- Assault on Randish V (111.M42): Reports from the Inquisition's extensive spy network indicated that a Warp storm of immense proportions was brewing over the dead world of Randish V. Worried about what this could possibly foreshadow, the Inquisition alerted the Archangels, who were nearby and looking to eradicate the next threat to the Imperium's safety. Without hesitation, the Archangels raced over to the planet and discovered something both shocking and horrifying. The Vampyric Fangs, a heretic Astartes warband led by the infamous Mephistopheles, were leading scores of Daemonic legions that were flooding across the planet's surface. Further investigation revealed that the traitors had long held a base there and were working on a secret project, one that, if it succeeded, when summon a center of Chaos power so powerful that it would create a path of annihilation leading straight to Terra itself. Alarmed to find that the project was nearly finished, the Archangels sent a desperate invasion force to take over the planet. However, dwarfed in size, they required extensive backup. Calling upon the nearby Space Drakes for assistance, the two Space Marine chapters combined powers to launch a planetary invasion. After intense fighting that resulted in numerous casualties, most to the Archangels, the tear in the real space was fixed, the arcane project they were working on destroyed, and cleansed the planet by driving out the disgusting servants of the Dark Gods.

Chapter Homeworld
Noxius
The former homeworld of the Space Drakes, Noxius is a planet of extremes, from volcanic deserts streching for miles and miles to lush forests and oceans with megafauna and megaflora. Noxius was primarly settled due to its natural abundnace of prometheium and exotic mining resources, making Noxius a unique planet, being a civilized/death/mining world at the same time. It was also chosen as the Chapter homeworld of the Space Drakes who had their fortress-monastery constructed here due to its strategic location withnin the Tarmentus Rift.
The Space Drakes mostly did not interfere in the politics of the planet, which was governed by a elected nobility, the Space Drakes instead had an advisor to the Planetary Ruling Council which was used to express worries, negotiations and other crucial elements.
Much of the population works in either large, prometheium-refinery plants, underground mines or agriculture, creating a very unqiue work enviorment for an imperial planet.
Fortress-Monastery
Formely, the Black Mountain located on Noxius, before its fall, used to be the Chapter's headquarters,

Chapter Culture and Beliefs
The Space Drakes have crafted a unique system of culture and beliefs, blending the Promethean Cult with their own Noxian traditions. This fusion creates a distinctive mix of mortal and Astartes traditions, reflecting their deep connection to both their forebears and their homeworld. Much like their progenitors, the Space Drakes are dedicated to protecting civilians and citizens of the Imperium. Rooted in compassion, they resonate with the Promethean Cult and intertwine their lives with ordinary citizens. They willingly sacrifice to shield innocents from harm, seeing themselves as guardians of humanity. This commitment drives them to make noble sacrifices and go to great lengths to protect those in need, even coming into conflict with other Imperial organizations while doing so.
The Space Drakes have a strong preference for close-quarters combat, flamers, thunder hammers, and melta weaponry. They have developed their own unique mechanized warfare doctrine, which emphasizes rapid response and heavy firepower. Their tactical flexibility allows them to adapt to various combat scenarios, ensuring their effectiveness in diverse environments. Storytelling holds great importance within the chapter. Battle-brothers gather around campfires and in the halls of the fortress-monastery to share tales of valor, sacrifice, and determination. These stories inspire younger generations and create a sense of unity among the ranks. The chapter prioritizes forging an unbreakable brotherhood, with veteran warriors mentoring newer recruits. This unity enhances their combat effectiveness and provides unwavering emotional support.
The chapter's reverence for their Primarch Vulkan is palpable in every aspect of their culture. They view him as a paragon of resilience and a guiding light in times of darkness. Ceremonies and festivals are held in his honor, and the flame iconography prevalent in their chapter symbol and armor is a constant reminder of his enduring presence. They have a near-religious reverence for Vulkan, believing that he will one day return to lead his sons. This belief is exemplified in the annual "Day of Flame" ceremony, where 18 Chaplains and Veterans, known as the "Eighteen," led by the Champion of the Burning Flame, perform a massive ceremony. The most important relic of the Chapter, the "Eye of Vulkan," lights itself on fire, symbolizing Vulkan's enduring presence and the chapter's heritage.
After the fall of Noxius, the Day of Flame became a symbol of rebirth for the Space Drakes. The chapter also integrates forging into their culture, meaning that standard-issue equipment is rare as battle brothers tend to modify their gear to suit their own needs and preferences. This results in a highly personalized arsenal, with no two sets of armor being identical. The Space Drakes maintain a close relationship with the Adeptus Mechanicus, frequently embarking on assistance missions to earn favors and acquire rare equipment. This beneficial relationship is occasionally challenged by differing beliefs, but it remains strong and mutually advantageous.
The chapter's culture values adaptability in combat, understanding that rigid adherence to tactics can lead to failure. They train to be flexible and open to adjusting their strategies according to the situation at hand, allowing them to thrive in various environments and against different adversaries. The flame iconography they use goes beyond visual significance, representing both the destructive power of chaos and the purifying force of the Emperor's light. It symbolizes their ability to withstand trials and their commitment to bringing light to the darkest corners of the galaxy. The Space Drakes also create intricate battle tapestries that depict their victories and challenges, displayed within their fortress-monastery as a visual representation of their history and valor.
The Space Drakes have a very stubborn and almost paranoid nature when it comes to protecting civilians. The Chapter frequently argues with other Imperial Forces to ensure civilian safety, and it is unknown if this paranoid behavior is related to their gene-seed. To ensure that every civilian they protect is safe, the Space Drakes are ruthless and violent, even for a Space Marine Chapter, against Xenos and Heretics. They rarely negotiate with enemies unless it means more souls can be saved.
The Battle Brothers, as dictated by the culture of Noxius and the traditions of the Realm of Polnyria (of which Noxius was a part before its fall), often engage in grand feasts. Much like the Space Wolves, these feasts are a regular occurrence, though they are carried out in a more civilized and ceremonial manner. These events are typically filled with lively banter among the Astartes and Chapter personnel and often take place after a successful 'Drake Hunt.' These feasts are laden with a variety of traditional Polnyrian dishes and alcohol, which the Space Drakes consume in celebration of their victories.
The Chapter also practices Duels as a way to settle Disputes, test each other's skills,During Such Duels, the Two Opponents Fight to Subdue their Opponent, instead of killing Them,as the Tradition Dictates.
Before Battles,it is a Common Practice for the Space Drakes to partake in the Armour Blessing Ceremonies, where Chaplains Bless their Armor with Sacred Oils and Flames, and it is belived by the battle brothers of the Chapter, that by such partaking in such a ceremony and having their armor blessed, they Shall be Protected by the Emperor and Their Gene-Father Vulkan Himself. During the Armor Blessings,Battle Brothers Inscribe Short Litanies on their Armor, invoking both their past victories and hopes for future glories.
After successfully liberating a world, the Space Drakes hold a Toast of Victory where every surviving Battle Brother participates in a ceremonial drinking of Śzwięcogniówka (an extremely potent ceremonial liquor) This Ceremony reminds the Space Drakes of their bonds, loyalty and struggles that bind them togheter in their service to the Emperor.
Another Unique Cultural Ceremony which is practiced by the Space Drakes, known as the Długa Straż (The Long Vigil) which takes place on a yearly basis, the Space Drakes Lit Ceremonial Flame Torches throught the Fortress-Monastery are left burning for a day and a single night on the tombs of Fallen Brothers, during which the Chapter Honours their Dead, and Battle Brothers Re-Count the Tales of their Fallen Brothers.
Chapter Recruitment
The Space Drakes, like any other Astartes Chapter, have a series of grueling trials that each recruit must complete to become a Scout Marine. The Space Drakes emphasize both combat and non-combat skills, creating a unique recruitment process with five stages. Each recruit is carefully chosen from a planet (after the fall of Noxius) and thoroughly screened by Chaplains and Librarians to determine if they are suitable to join the Chapter's ranks.
Stage 1:
The first stage involves dropping recruits into a specially-crafted artificial jungle designed to resemble Noxius, located in the deep depths of the Flamebearer. Recruits must find their way out while battling massive and hostile megaflora and fauna. Few survive this stage, but those who do advance to the second stage.
Stage 2:
In the second stage, recruits are taught the ways of war, both close and long-range combat, the culture and traditions of the Chapter, and how to forge equipment.
Stage 3:
After passing Stage 2, recruits are divided into two teams to fight each other in the artificial training halls of the Flamebearer. Led by aspiring Battle Brothers who aim to become Sergeants, this stage can sometimes result in deaths. The team with the better performance moves on to Stage 4, while those with worse performance are usually made into Chapter serfs or auxiliaries.
Stage 4:
The fourth stage involves recruits and aspiring Sergeants fighting against specially-made artificial enemies in the training halls, ranging from Chaos Cultists to Tyranids or T'au. This stage is brutal, and recruits must think strategically to survive engagements against these foes.
Stage 5:
In the fifth and final stage, recruits participate in the Noxian Drake Hunt. Since the Space Drakes were forced off their homeworld, this hunt takes place in the training halls. The Noxian Drakes are recreated as faithfully as possible, making it a brutal encounter. Those who survive and slay the beast complete their recruitment process and become Scouts.
Ceremony of Induction
After finishing the recruitment process, new Scouts are brought into the Great Hall for a grand ceremony attended by most of the Chapter. The ceremony features a huge feast, and the recruits are promoted by Chaplains, receiving congratulations from their fellow Battle Brothers. Recruits who were made serfs also attend this celebration.
Chapter Gene-Seed
A Space Drakes Librarian
The Space Drakes just like the Salamanders are not swift to determine a course of action, and slower still to change their minds once they have decided. However, it is a fine line between determination and obstinacy, and Battle-Brothers must be watchful that their stubbornness does not grow. This genetic curse usually occurs in three stages:
- Level 1 (Unrelenting): The Battle-Brother cannot easily change his mind once he has decided upon something. Having weighed the facts of the situation, he sees his current course of action as the best one, and cannot easily consider alternatives.
- Level 2 (Intransigent): The Battle-Brother is unwilling to compromise and is difficult to reason with. His stubborn nature prevents him from regarding any alternatives to his point of view. Unable to reconcile with the rest of his squad, the affected Battle-Brother often chooses only to rely on himself, thereby reducing his squad's overall cohesion.
- Level 3 (Obstinate): The Battle-Brother is slow to decide and is unlikely ever to change his views on any matter, and will die before relenting in any situation.
Drake's Doubt
However, the Chapter is also plagued by a curse known as "Drake's Doubt," which creates doubt in the minds and hearts of every Battle Brother. This curse causes them to question their actions and decisions. While not lethal or physically dangerous, Drake's Doubt can torment brothers for years, making them constantly worry whether their choices were correct.
Combat Doctrine
The combat doctrine of the Space Drakes is a unique blend of their own culture, Codex Astartes guidelines, Salamanders traditions, and years of their own combat experience. This creates a distinctive approach based on quick-strike actions and close-quarters warfare. The Space Drakes typically operate in task forces, resulting in a fleet larger than that of most other Astartes Chapters. They usually deploy via drop pods or Thunderhawk transports, utilizing Rhinos and Land Raiders to quickly move into the combat area. Once there, After a Heavy Artyrelly Barrage (Either from their Own or Allied Batteries) to Soften up Enemy Resistance, they dismount and overwhelm the enemy with their flamers and close-quarters combat. Despite their preference for such tactics, the Chapter is fully capable of fighting in any theater or condition, demonstrating versatility akin to any other Astartes Chapter.the Space Drakes Chapter has adopted unique practices related to the integration and modification of Primaris units. These measures aim to harness the strengths of both Primaris and Firstborn Battle Brothers while ensuring the seamless operation of advanced Primaris equipment.
One notable practice is the merging of Primaris and Firstborn units in exclusively Primaris or Firstborn formations. For example, the traditional Firstborn Tactical Squads have been effectively formed both from Primaris and Firstborn Batle Brothers, with each Battle Brother bringing their unique strengths to the battlefield. This synergy allows for greater versatility in combat tactics, drawing from the wealth of experience found among our Firstborn while benefiting from the enhanced physiology of Primaris Marines.
Additionally, certain specialized Primaris units, such as Inceptors, have been formed through a collaborative effort between Firstborn and Primaris Battle Brothers. In such cases, modifications have been made to Firstborn power armor to ensure compatibility with Primaris equipment. These custom adaptations enable Battle Brothers to operate Primaris gear seamlessly while retaining the agility and tactical prowess associated with Firstborn Marines.
