The Sons of Eden is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes created during the 10th Founding from the lineage of the heroic Ultramarines. The Sons are a Crusading chapter with a burning vendetta against demonic and warp entities. Inspired greatly by the discovery of the library of the old name and the sacrifice of their Chapter Master, Saint Conrad Fides, they will continue on their crusade until there is no brother left to die on the alter of salvation.

Chapter History

During the 35th Millennium, an Ultramarines sergeant by the name of Conrad Fides would find himself exiled to a barren wasteland planet known as "Eden." The details of this exile are not entirely known, due to poor record keeping and bureaucratic troubles. However, chapter tradition recounts that Conrad was exiled due to his psychic visions of the Emperor being tortured and crucified on a tree. After sharing his visions with his chapter master, he was sent into exile to pay penance for his heretical words. During his exile, Conrad encountered an ancient Xenos race known as "Heibenoids." Conrad fought and killed thousands of these creatures for weeks on end. Wave after wave he fought them, slowly weakening and succumbing to the damage he took to his power armor. He kept purging those horrid beasts until his power armor reached a level of critical failure. Instead of giving up, and allowing himself to be taken by these beasts, Conrad fashioned a toga from the remains of his tabard and crafted a spear made of wood and stone. After screaming and praying for strength from the Emperor, he fought on and defeated his enemy. Resulting in a complete extermination of the Heibenoid race. This act of valor would later be known as the Great Cleansing of Eden by chapter scholars and librarians.

After the total annihilation of the Heibanoid threat, a subterranean race of ancient humans emerged from the caves where they dwelled for thousands of years. Owing their lives to Conrad, they proclaimed him their leader and pledged their loyalty to him. Over the next three hundred years Conrad helped the Edenites rebuild their world as they watched the greenery and animals return to the surface. Under the excavation site that would later become the great monastery of eden, Conrad was informed of a suspicious discovery. There in the center of the excavation, protruding from an ancient stone slab was a spear, perfectly preserved and constructed from, what seemed to be Terran bronze. As he reached for the spear he was shocked by a massive psychic pulse, he felt a power so intense flow through him that he could barely stand.

Mustering all the strength he had left, he grabbed the spear and tore it from the stone. As the power of the stone flowed through Conrad's body, he was overcome by a psychic power causing him to hallucinate, having visions of far away lands and vast libraries hidden underground. After he learned to control the power of the spear, it would glow when he pointed it towards Terra. In order to investigate this strange artifact, he went on a planet-wide mission to find his derelict power armor and send off a distress beacon. Conrad’s beacon was picked up and tracked by a Black Templars Crusading fleet that was docked in the area, after boarding he was transported to Terra to present the strange spear to the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Upon investigation, the Adeptus Mechanicus demanded that Conrad hand over the spear at once to be studied due to its strange psychic energy. However, Conrad had different plans. The Cult Mechanicus had seen Conrad's dedication and after seeing the power of the spear and fearing the damage it may do to the Imperium, as well as its possible link to chaos they agreed to his wish. With this action, began negotiations between Conrad, the Adeptus Mechanicus and the High Lords of Terra. Fearing the worst, and rightfully so, the High Lords of Terra agreed to the creation of a new Space Marine Chapter. Acquiescing to Conrad's request, and with his Chapter Master's approval, the former sergeant was raised up to the esteemed rank of Chapter Master. He was then allowed to establish the newly incepted Sons of Eden Chapter as part of the 10th Founding and as the official guardians of the Spear of Destiny.

Notable Campaigns

  • Discovery of the Library of the Old Name (Unknown Date) - After the Adeptus Mechanicus refused to return the Spear of Destiny to the possession of the Sons of Eden, Conrad orchestrated a raid on their ships. The battle was over quickly, and the newly founded chapter fled directly to Terra in order to uncover the ancient secrets this psychic weapon must hold. They followed the light of the spear all across the planetary surface until, at last, it had led them to a shabby shack in the center of the peasant slums. Confused and rightfully so, Conrad ordered his servitors to scan and dig deep below the slums to find any possible subterranean caverns or constructions that may have been hidden or lost to time. After months of excavation, Conrad felt like his efforts were wasted and his time had been stolen from him by some meddling chaos demons or tricksters, until suddenly he heard a large crash, a servitor had broken through, and fallen deep into a massive subterranean structure. Delighted by this discovery, Conrad joined the initial search team to scour the structure and gain some understanding of what they had just stumbled upon.

Sprawled out before them in magnificence, was a towering library filled with books and scrolls. the most beautiful symbols and statues splayed across the walls and floor. Red velvet drapes, torn and strewn across shelves made of dark, rotten wood. Dust and sand covered the pages, caked on as if this place had been abandoned for millennia. Conrad orders that his librarians and servitors scour this vast library to learn its knowledge, and preserve these sacred texts so as to never again lose such a monumental horde of information again. After returning to his ship, Conrad narrates to his daughter Solaaria who put to the pen a sacred text called “The Edonite Decree” In which he establishes the chapters three orders and their jobs, as well as their grand plans and rules. Established on that day was The Order of the Martyr, The Order of the Lion and The Order of the Eagle. Each tasked with important jobs, but most important of all was the Order of the Martyr, the ancient librarians who maintain the grand library on the fleet’s flagship “Throne of Power”
"The first grand crusade of the great Sons of Eden! Surely this will be eventful! - High Cardinal Aurelius Sanctonim in Conversation with his Clergy."
The First Crusade (Unknown Date) - The departure from the garden like fields of Eden was none too familiar to most of the now unbloodied warriors of the sons of Eden, for in their lifetimes they had never stepped foot off of this lush green orb. It was time however, to launch a massive blade formed from the armies of the lands of Eden deep into the bowls of the demonic spawn. With their path charted and their weapons oiled, the Sons now pray to themselves silently, spread censures of holy fumes through the pods, and wait patiently for their time to be sacrificed on the altar of salvation.

The first stop of this great crusade is the largest of the triplet jungle moons Zelis 1. Down to the surface they crash, clearing the jungle to establish a forward operating base. The jungle was dense, dark and damp. Comfort was all too foreign here, the humid mist that lingered in the air had seeped deep into the recesses of their power armor, filling the suits with condensation and leaving the battle brothers with rashes and sores on their skin. As the 10th 'Dagger' Company scouted for enemy positions, they found the jungle too dense surrounding the enemy supply station to insert with vehicles or drop pods. Therefor, Saint Conrad made a difficult decision to call for an amphibius invasion of the cultist supply port known as Deep Bay. Deep Bay was heavily fortified, and home to no less than ten thousand chaos cultists all armed and ready for war. In the old name of the Emperor, Saint Conrad called the charge and the Sons sped across the water towards the enemy position using speeders and drop ships. it was said that the pilots had to fly so low to avoid the jungle's canopy that the water would spray up and coat the entire ships in mud. Once over the beach, the drop ships would let go of their payload and the sons lay havoc on their foes. With a great deal of haste, Deep bay was captured by the Sons. Thankfully with minimal casualties, and a total annihilation of the enemy forces.

After establishing a foothold on the coast, Conrad ordered the Sons to move east towards the loyalist city of Zelok to aid in their defense. By the time they arrived however, it was nearly too late. Cultists were pouring in over the walls with ladders and make shift siege towers. Conrad quickly called the order to advance, allowing the Sons to invade this desolate settlement just in time to repel the wave of attackers. With only a few thousand guardsman remaining and a dwindling supply of rations, hope was nearly lost. But the faith of Saint Conrad Fides of the Void and his kindness towards the lowly citizens warmed their hearts and reinvigorated their pride. For months they fought over this barren ground, once ornate tall towers levelled to basic piles of dust, the floors of the temples were coated in a thick wax layer of coagulated blood and the streets were piled high with bodies. After 8 months of brutal combat, the waves of chaos would be successfully repelled, and yet, at what cost? Less than 100 guardsmen remained at their posts, and millions of innocent lives were lost. This is to this day one of the worst defeats suffered by the Sons of Eden. In the rubble of the southern temple, a troop of servitors uncovered a strange relic, it emitted a sort of power unknown to them, so they brought the device to the high cardinal Aurelius Sanctonim. This artifact was later identified to be the Crown of Blood, an ancient Terran artifact likely spread across the galaxy during the early explorations of the human race. It now sits as a relic in the treasury of the Throne of Power.

After the liberation of Zelis 1, it was now time to clear the scourge from its younger counterpart, Zelis 2. Unlike the humid boiling environment of Zelis 1, the ecosystem of Zelis 2 was much colder. The jungle was filled with fog, and the brothers were not able to see more than 50 feet in front of them. This thick fog lay down at the base of the massive mountain ranged, all coated with a blanket of greenery and vines as far as the eye can see. The terrain was harsh, and unforgiving, two brothers would lose their lives simply to the hands of nature, rather than a mighty foe. The primary objective of this invasion was the chaos settlement of Gualog. Nestled in the center of an elevated plateau, Gualog overlooked every route of ingress with tactical superiority. There was no advantage for the attacking forces, and yet Conrad had to make a decision. In the end, he he decided to meet the enemy with steel rain. As the Sons dropped into the city, their pods where quickly overwhelmed. Many brothers lost their lives in the initial jump, but this was not a somber occurrence. For the mighty Sons of Eden wish to be martyred, it is only in death that their work will be complete, and their spirits may be accepted by the Emperor. For years this battle raged on, the numbers of the brothers slowly dwindling. Large beasts and hoards of cultists met the blades and bolters of our glorious sons, and all who stood in their path would fall.

Out of the northern monastery smashed a giant chaos engine, an amalgamation of flesh and steel so hideous and vile it struck fear even into the great Sons of Eden. With great courage Saint Conrad charged head on into the beast and did battle with great vigor. However he would be struck down and launched into the side of a tower, crippling him and making him a most delicious meal for this demonic beast. When just as Conrad was accepting his fate on this day, the lowly pedite sergeant by the name of Forti Invictus charged up the back of the beast, climbing over his spikes and flaming gashes, dodging bolter fire and shrapnel. Forti Invictus jumped onto the head of the beast, and as it reared in anger he sawed off the creatures mighty head with his chain sword and rode its gushing neck to the ground.

For another two months the Sons fought this harrowing battle, all while Forti fought by Conrad's side. A level of trust grew between them that would never dissipate for all of eternity. In the end, the battle was won. A ceremony was held in the halls of the ruined temple that night, where the great Forti Invictus was crowned marshal of the forces of Eden, and successor to Saint Conrad himself. The festivities would not last long however, because Conrad wished vengeance on the murderers of his brothers. The next morning Forti Invictus led the 1st company to a mountain pass cloaked in fog and greenery, awaiting the fleeing hoards of chaos. Once these vile cultists pushed through the ravine and into the crosshairs of the brothers, they unleashed a hail of lead and fire so great it crippled the hoards in minutes. Such a tactical victory would cement Forti in his position for all of the chapter's future.

After the successful liberations of the two largest jungle planets, it was now time to turn the attention of the chapter to the smallest of the triplets, Zelis 3. The surface of Zelis 3 was remarkably dry. The earth was ashy and coarse, and the vines were shriveled and rotten. Chaos has taken it's hold on this world, the idea that it may already have fallen was not lost on Saint Conrad, for he feared a victory over chaos was not possible in such as wretched place. During the chapters exploration, they came across a troop of human refugees fleeing from their homes, "Our city of Zaale, it is under attack!" they said, begging Conrad to save their families who did not have time to retreat. Conrad, knowing what he must do- called a move order towards the city of Zaale. However, this time they were too late...

Stood upon a ridge looking down on the ruined city, Saint Conrad watched in terror as the villagers were slaughtered. A hoard of millions of cultists, beasts and chaos space marines ravaged the city outnumbering the Sons of Eden by an unknowable margin. Overcome with grief Conrad called for the complete annihilation of the city of Zaale. One after another the shots fell, blasting every last living creature within those walls to pure oblivion. A night passed as Conrad sat on the cliff watching the fire, and listening to the marred screams of the damned. He was entranced by the destruction, by his own hand these innocents were doomed to the hellfire. Weighing on his conscience was the justification of the matter, was it justified to burn the city? did the masses of slain heretics piled high in smoldering heaps justify the obliteration of loyal women and children? In the morning Conrad lead the Sons of Eden through the glasses streets, coated in radioactive crystallization structures and residue from the fire mission. Voices could be heard faintly in the air like whispers, echoes of lives lost. The spirits haunted Saint Conrad, they would never leave him, and he would never forget.

The remains of the chaos forces on the planet had set up camp in a grassland known as the Carceline flats. An assault order was given and the cultists were taken by surprise. The pedites quickly swarmed the cultists, encircling them and forcing them into a brutal melee. The force of the pedites enclosing their formations compressed the cultists into a mass of immobile bodies. They where pressed too close to move or attack, and they where helpless to the will of the Sons. The Equites rode circles around the formation tearing up any stragglers who managed to squeeze through the wall of pedites. slowly the circle shrunk, as the mounds of corpses grew. Chaos was defeated, the Zelis planetary system was liberated. But at what cost?

  • The Second Crusade (Unknown Date) - As the great holy Sons of Eden prepare for battle once more, they kneel and pray. The ceremony is grand, one thousand battle brothers kneeling before the one true Omnissiah. As censures of ancient incenses flow through the hall, and the fire light spills over the gothic arches, the High Cardinal reads verses from the Edenite Decree'. The brothers move down the isle in formation, one company at a time. marching to the sound of the music towards the grand podium on which Aurelius Sanctonim is perched. Each of them will kneel before him and request his blessing in battle.

"Rise my brother, for today you are free from the shackles of chivalry. You will fly into battle with haste and leave the enemy with no quarter. You are death, all will gaze upon you and despair" -High Cardinal Aurelius Sanctonim.

Chapter Beliefs

It is a strong belief within the Sons of Eden that the Emperor of mankind is a god. Not just any god in fact, but the ancient god described throughout the text of the Library of the Old Name on Eden. The Sons of Eden will fight till their last breath in order to earn salvation and eternal life by the grace of the Emperor of Mankind.

Gene-Seed

Genetic Flaws

The Sons of Eden believe in the beauty of humankind and the Emperors creations. They wish not to meddle with his science and instead birth new recruits naturally. Each brother of the Sons of Eden must marry an Edenite woman to birth himself an heir, this son will later fill his position in the chapter should he fall in battle.

Combat Doctrine

The Edenites approach combat with a level of tactical prowess held slightly higher than other crusading chapters. Their main traditions in combat are to use melee pedite infantry and shock troops to force the enemy into tight formations and deny them movement across the battlefield. Fast Moving Equites will then drive circles around the enemy positions firing ranged weapons or preforming shock charges to harass enemy formations or cut down foes who break through the defensive lines. Ranged Sagittarius units position themselves on high ground surrounding the enemy to rain fire into their clumps of troops as they are compacted inwards by the pedites. And finally heavy support troops will fire mass casualty producing rounds into the center of the enemy positions to cut down larger forces of hostiles.

Deathwatch Service

The Sons of Eden Vehemently restrict their members from joining the deathwatch, for it is forbidden in the Edonite decree.

  • Blessed Bolts -

Crafted from an alloy of sacred armor and relics, the holy energy imbued in these bolts guides them to the souls of chaotic beings. None shall evade the judgment of the Omnissiah, for it is he, and he alone who guides these bolts shrouded in holy flame. May these sacred projectiles of holy steel pierce deep into the heart of chaos, and always strike their mark.

A pure, unadulterated reminder of our origins, values and sacred mission. If it was not for the faith and devotion of Saint Conrad Fides of the Void, we would surely be dead. Thankful to him, are we, and invigorated are we, in the physical memory of his divine sacrifice. All for so little, a human mother and child, did he forgo so much."
— High Cardinal Aurelius Sanctonim, Transmission to the Edonites, 440.M41
  • The Edonite Decree -

Dictated by Saint Conrad Fides and inscribed by his daughter Solaaria as a means to posthumously govern the Edenite race, no decision can be made without first consulting the sacred texts.
