The Solar Avengers are an almost extinct chapter of loyalist Space Marines. They have a single member of their chapter left alive. In 590.M41, when their home world, Estor, was destroyed resulting in the death of over 80% of their chapter.
History
Origins
Not much was known about the origins of the Solar Avengers. Gene-seed was unusually difficult to analyse at it quickly degraded when outside the body of an Astartes. The Chapter were renowned for the use of last stands, and at times, entire squads of Battle Brothers hurtling themselves into the enemy just to buy one or two civilians mere seconds of time to escape.
Destruction of Estor
In 590.M41, an Ork WAAAGH!!! proceeded to attack Estor. The Planetary Defence Forces were inadequate in protecting their planet, and the Solar Avengers were deployed. Despite the initial success of the chapter, the Ork Waaghboss Rek Da’Umies actively pursued the Astartes. 20 Space Marines sacrificed themselves to protect Adam Celave, the then Chapter Master of the chapter. An Ork Attack Moon was spotted within the planets orbit. Evacuations began, and over 10 million people were evacuated successfully, with only 20% of the Astartes managing to escape, as many offered their places on the evacuation ships to civilians and others outright refused to leave the battle until they were dead or it was over, One such individual, Marcus Redorca, was forced to flee by Captain Yovon Pearson, who ordered him to evacuate while the Captain continued to fight.
As the ships left orbit, the Ork Attack Moon proceeded to drop from the orbit and crash into the planet. The planet proceeded to be pulverised as the moon utterly destroyed the dwarf planet.
After the conflict, The Inquisition discovered the Chimeric nature of the chapters Geneseed. Subsequently, they were declared renegadess. The Chapter Master Adam Caleve and a large percentage of the Chapters Captains, Librarians and other senior members surrendered themselves to execution on the condition that the rest of his men would be spared. It was revealed that the higher ups of the chapter were aware of their Geneseed , but the majority of the Chapter was not. This was granted, and the remainder of the chapter were then forced to embark on a decade long penitence crusade.
Decline
Over the 10 years, the remaining 200 or so Astartes were caught in numerous conflicts against various Xenos and Chaos threats. In 591.M41, a further 58 members of the chapter were killed during a confrontation with The Black Legion. Captain Marcus Redorca was shot but not killed. By the time their penitence crusade had ended, only 20 brothers remained, including Marcus. In 595.M41. 6 severely wounded Battle Brothers, including the Chapter Master Sincina Turon, sacrificed themselves to protect a town of civilians from a Khornate Daemon Incursion after one Librarian of the Chapter, Malvion Strot, revealed himself to have been corrupted by the ruinous powers and subsequently summoned the Daemons into real space. Malvion was killed, as well as the 7 wounded battle brothers. Marcus was then honoured with becoming The Chapter Master. The last 12 men vanished during Warp Transit in 039.M41, with only Marcus Redorca and Apothecary James Codeco remaining, James dying shortly thereafter after requesting euthanisation, which Marcus granted.
Marcus told the inquisition that one battle brother, Sergeant Foron Tabros, disabled the Gellar Field, resulting in Daemons killing him and all but 2 of the Astartes, with the ship sustaining heavy casualties in regards to the normal humans. Marcus was sentenced to be executed for Chaos Taint, but Inquisitor Davros Fides instead requisitioned him.
