The Soaring Angels are a Loyalist Successor Chapter of the noble Blood Angels that were created during the 25th 'Bastion Founding' of the 40th Millennium. A fleet-based Chapter, they strive to embody the aspect of flight and virtue of freedom that their liege-father Sanguinius set as an example to strive for. Like any other son of the Angel, flight whether by aircraft or upon roaring jump pack is a sign of devotion to their Primarch as it lets them feel as he would've felt upon the battlefield, soaring across the sky to bring down destruction upon mankind's enemies.

Chapter History

The Chapter attributes its conception to the 25th 'Bastion Founding' that saw the likes of the Emperor's Spears and Fire Angels beginning to carve their names across the galaxy. The founders of the Soaring Angels were comprised of key Chapter command pulled from their parent Chapter of the Blood Angels. Divination and prognostication from Blood Angel Librarians warned of a threat dire enough to warrant the creation of a new Chapter. From that point onward, the Soaring Angels began to search the stars for foes to hunt and lives to protect. For the next hundreds of years, these sons of Sanguinius would build up a reputation for themselves as one of the most virtuous defenders of humanity.

Notable Campaigns

Soaring angels after battle

Soaring Angels Astartes on Fythans VI, having slain a Word Bearers Terminator.

  • Fythans VI Campaign (567.M40): Elements of the 4th and 8th companies became embattled on the desert world of Fythans VI against a force of Word Bearers and heretic cultists who were attempting to summon a tide of Daemons unto the planet. The campaign lasted 6 months and was comprised of various ground skirmishes, as well as ship battles around orbit. By the end, a majority of the Word Bearers force was slain with the rest managing to escape on what little ships they had remaining around the world. Of the attacking force, 1/4th of the loyalist forces were killed, and three cruisers were destroyed.
  • Defense of Hive Yerreth (843.M40): This battle saw the world of Jantion and a handful of its various hive cities see enemy occupation due to a sudden attack from within by an insidious Genestealer Cult which had established itself centuries earlier and nearly infected all of the planet's ruling caste. In response, Imperial elements called upon the aid of the closest Astartes Chapter- The Imperial Fists. Assessing the situation from orbit, the sons of Dorn saw it fit to deploy strike forces from three companies: the 7th and 8th for their expertise in mobile warfare, and veterans from the 1st company who would directly seek the Patriach to slay it. In the first days of siege, the Fists gained considerable ground by swiftly retaking less defended hive cities, but underestimated the sheer number of mutants and heretics that wormed their way into the planet. A nearby Inquisitorial cell operating under the Ordo Xenos caught wind of this ongoing conflict and petitioned for the Ordo to send in a Deathwatch Kill-Team to clear a path for the embattled Chapter. Such a team was sent in, and among their number was Brother Jolo of the Soaring Angels. His Kill-Team made planetfall and immediately conducted various raids on key enemy positions, allowing the Imperial Fists to move up along with their armor and further reclaim the planet's hives. Reconnaissance would reveal the heart of the cult to be nested within Hive Yerreth. The Deathwatch force, which had only suffered minor casualties, rallied with the Imperial Fists for one final push to decapitate the cult at its core. They would find their quarry on the remains of a large industrial complex sprawling with maze-like arrangements of machinery. Recognizing the folly of zealously charging such a position, the Imperial Fists decided to advance their Land Raider Redeemers and flush the enemy out with flame. The tactic worked effectively, forcing the enemy out into the Space Marines' firing line. Eventually, the Patriarch would unleash itself and the rest of the cult upon the Astartes, swiftly dispatching multiple Battle-Brothers. It would then target a nearby Land Raider, tearing open large chunks of the vehicle and killing the occupants within. But before it could totally destroy it, Brother Jolo put himself between it and the Patriarch. Clashing chainsword against claw, Jolo would fight fiercely but he too would fall to the Patriarch. But the fight would be enough such that vanguard veterans from the Fists were able to finally kill it, with the remnants of the cult following shortly. In recognition of Brother Jolo's deeds, the Imperial Fists would contact his Chapter of the Soaring Angels, and along with his body which was taken with permission from the Deathwatch, the Land Raider which was repaired were given to the Chapter as a sign of respect and honour. The Land Raider which was henceforth dubbed "Messenger of God", would be reborn in the livery of the Soaring Angels, but with an honour marking from the Imperial Fists to forever commemorate this moment.
  • Zanoa Liberation Campaign (174.M41): In the earlier centuries of M41, the subsector of Zanoa within the Segmentum Tempestus fell within the destructive path of an Ork WAAAGH! which saw the handful of systems within the subsector under greenskin assault. To answer this, the Imperium sent a force comprised of multiple Imperial Guard regiments, Imperial Navy fleets, and Adeptus Astartes battle groups. Some of the Astartes Chapters to answer the call to war were the Soaring Angels, Flesh Tearers, Liberators, and Howling Griffons, among others. Of the Space Marine forces present, the Flesh Tearers would garner significant attention, for at the head of their detachment was their Chapter Master himself, Gabriel Seth. During the campaign, the Soaring Angels and Flesh Tearers tended to get stuck in with each other as both Chapters sought out the worlds most heavily occupied by the enemy. It was in these offensives that the Soaring Angels would properly distinguish themselves in the eyes of a fellow Chapter of the blood, as Gabriel Seth would also be present in every battle the Flesh Tearers fought in, appraising the way his kin make war. By the end of the campaign, the WAAAGH! was stopped dead in its tracks, and all forces present were awarded a great deal of accolades and honours. The Soaring Angels would also make great allies with a few of the Chapters that stood with them, and would further gain the well-earned respect of Seth and the Flesh Tearers.

Chapter Organisation

Command Ranks

  • Datu (Captain): In addition to their regular duties as battlefield commanders and other specific responsibilities depending on their role, Captains also manage a portion of the fleet that makes up the entire Chapter. These sub-fleets are not often equal in strength and number, and it is common for vessels to be seconded or even transferred to other companies. In smaller skirmishes where around two companies are committed, it is often tradition for Captains to debate or even challenge each other in honour duels over who gets to command the overall fleet unless the Chapter Master himself is present to make the decision if he so chooses.
  • Skycleaver: While lesser conflicts see command of parts of the Chapter's fleets regularly change hands, when committed to larger campaigns, the Chapter Master defers command of the fleet to the "Skycleaver", a title comparable to the 'Master of the Fleet' of most Codex-Compliant Chapters. While this role is usually given to a Captain, the Chapter Master and other senior officers of the Chapter will grant this title to any Brother who displays an unparalleled skill in navigating both the vastness of space and hostile atmospheres. This warrior must have the ability to chart the warships of the Chapter through even the most perilous of warp storms, or effectively smash through the densest enemy flotillas while suffering the least amount of casualties. The Skycleaver must be calm of mind and with patience of steel, in order to command every single portion of the fleet from the largest battle barge to the smallest fighter, even while under constant assault. This leaves the rest of the Chapter's fighting force to focus on the enemy, while the Skycleaver gives them information by the second through the help of Techmarines accompanied by various serfs and servitors to relay vital data.
  • Sanguine Champion: This warrior acts as the Chapter's champion, a single warrior often seen accompanying officers in great battles. Such a rank is given only to the greatest blademaster in the Chapter, one whose skills may even surpass a Captain's. The role itself is only rotated through the death or grievous wounding of the previous champion, or by honour duels by prospective warriors, only held if the current Champion has survived well enough that only aging seeks to impede his skills. In addition, the champion must also possess strategic and tactical prowess close to some master tacticians within the chapter, to also serve as an additional logistical aide to a captain or lieutenant, especially as an on-the-ground strategist.

Specialist Ranks

  • Ancient of Days: The sole warrior tasked with bearing the Chapter's banner.
  • Keeper of the Heavens: Company Ancients tasked with carrying each Company's banners to war.
  • Visionshaper: Librarian equivalent, these powerful warrior-Psykers are adept at peering into the future in order to warn the Chapter of threats yet to come.

Veteran Units and Formations

  • Terminators:
  • Sky-Bleeders: Equivalent of a Codex-standard Vanguard Veteran Squad. These warriors are exemplars at jump pack assaults and hit-and-run tactics, harrying their foe with quick and violent strikes before disappearing out of reach. While capable of being sent on standalone missions, the role of the Sky-Bleeders are best shown when fighting alongside a main force of troops, either advancing ahead to shatter dense enemy formations or herding them into disadvantageous positions.
  • Storm-Eyes: Equivalent of a Codex-standard Sternguard Veteran Squad. Expert sharpshooters, each member is familiar with nearly every kind of ranged weapon available in the Chapter's arsenal. These Veterans have masterful patience, making each shot with utmost timing and precision, and such skill has time and again turned the tides of battle in the Chapter's favor.
  • Juramentado (Oathtakers): Equivalent of a Bladeguard Veteran Squad. Before each battle, each warrior takes an oath before the Emperor and Sanguinius. To leave this oath incomplete would bring great shame to the Chapter, so the Oathtaker will fight tooth and nail to fulfill it, and nothing short of death will stop him.

Line Ranks

  • Sangko (Battle-Brother): The standard rank of Space Marine in the Chapter. The term is taken from the same Baalite dialect the original members of the Chapter spoke. It meant "Third-eldest son" and refers to the Marine's place in his brotherhood, with the two "elder" in rank being senior specialists and Chapter command.
  • Sarhento: Squad sergeants typically in command of a squad of five to ten Battle-Brothers.
  • Youngbloods: Neophytes who will train to become fully-fledged Astartes.

Specialist Units & Formations

  • The Minokawa (Sanguinary Guard): Taking their name from a mythological beast that was said to be able to consume suns, the Minokawa act as honour guard for the Chapter Master and other important individuals. They are also often sent on the battlefield when the need to swiftly eliminate a key enemy leader arises.
  • The "Sorrowful" (Death Company): Due to the Soaring Angels' lineage being tied to the Blood Angels, the Chapter's members also suffer from the twin curses of the Red Thirst and Black Rage. As such, a Death Company is also present within the Chapter. When the onset of madness becomes apparent within a Battle-Brother, they are immediately isolated from their squad if not in an active warzone, and checked by any present Chaplains. If they are beyond saving, then they are inducted into the Chapter's Death Company, referred to as the "Sorrowful".

Their role within the Death Company differs from other Chapters of the Blood in that the order itself also doubles as a temporary reconstitution of the Legion Destroyer Squads of old. Early in the Chapter's history, they scoured the Space Hulk Legacy of Malediction which was revealed to be a collection of differing Legion ships dating back to the Great Crusade, having since been broken and twisted together. Of the spoils contained within the carcass of the hulk, a cache of rad-weapons was found. Fearing it might fall into the wrong hands, the Chapter seized it. In desperate times, the Chapter Master may authorize the outfitting of Squads of Death Company marines with these most dangerous and forbidden weaponry. Like their predecessors, the Death Company units equipped in this manner were unleashed when the utter annihilation of an enemy was sanctioned. This practice is limited in itself however, as the Soaring Angels in truth loathe these dishonourable and destructive weapons and seek their disposal. However they cannot ignore the usefulness of such weapons in the situations that warrant them and so they send them with the Death Company, where their destruction is assured; either through overuse by the accursed brother wielding it, or dismantling by Techmarines after the battle.

Non-Combative Personnel

  • Horo-han (Equerry): As the Soaring Angels see mortals in a more respectful light, it is not uncommon for Battle-Brothers or other members of the Chapter to have human aides, especially trained serfs who serve directly under their specific master. Here they may forge the bond between man and angel, and thus help remind the Astartes of the humanity that they protect.
  • Uripon (Chapter Serf): Oftentimes when the Soaring Angels liberate beleaguered planets, many of its people would offer their allegiance to the Chapter. Those worthy enough are taken in as part of the force of menials that assist in many of the workings of the Chapter, from assisting in rites and rituals to being part of the Chapter's human militia.

Combat Doctrine

Like many Blood Angel successors, the Soaring Angels pride themselves in their mastery of shock assault tactics, especially drop-pod assaults. Being a fleet-based Chapter, they are also adept at void engagements and aerial battles thanks in part to a generous number of battleships and fighter aircraft. Likewise, a great deal of assault squads exist within the Chapter. In terms of organization, the Soaring Angels mostly follow the Codex Astartes to a degree with some noted differences in terms of extra ranks as well as variations of existing Codex-standard ranks and specialized formations to suit their needs. On the battlefield, they tend to be disciplined yet with a hint of fervor that truly erupts when in direct contact with the enemy. Due to the Red Thirst and Black Rage, it is not uncommon for individual members or even whole squads to break formation and rush into enemy lines. It is because of these flaws that the Chapter tends to not conduct battle directly alongside human elements of the Imperium like the Imperial Guard, but in the rare cases where they engage in joint operations with other Imperial forces, they show readying willingness to cooperate with allied commanders on equal footing irrespective of rank. This ability to adapt and change their tactics to complement those of their allies has proven an invaluable tool and breaks the organizational barriers that may rise from other Chapters that would've otherwise refused to change their strategies. Such disposition has earned them much respect and praise from other Imperial elements who are often too used to the stubbornness and arrogance of the Space Marines.

Chapter Culture & Beliefs

The original members who would form and structure the Chapter came from one of the many nomadic tribes of Baal, whose culture interestingly bears similarities to those of the ancient civilizations that walked the pacific regions of Old Earth. As such, the Chapter has adopted the language and warrior culture of these Baalites. Despite war and the nature of their fleet-based organization taking them far from their primogenitor's home world, it is in keeping the customs and traditions of their people that the Soaring Angels maintain a close spiritual link to their gene-father, Sanguinius.

Chapter Recruitment

With no planet to call their own, the Soaring Angels often take recruits from any nearby worlds along their fleet's current course, whose young are taken should Apothecaries and Chaplains assess the populace as worthy stock. They yet lack the necessary resources to produce and maintain Chapter keeps like those of the Black Templars on worlds they have conquered or helped save, and such are not able to closely monitor the worlds they regularly look to for recruits. When the Soaring Angels are in need of recruits, they initiate the ritual of induction. This involves a portion of the Chapter fleet being left behind as a smaller flotilla in sectors where the populace of the surrounding planets are deemed worthy sources of aspirants, based on sufficient data collected through reconnaissance by either specialized Chapter Serfs or by Scouts of the 10th Company.

Once at least one world has been chosen, the recruiting flotilla will monitor the young warriors among the planet's people, often in secret to allow their instincts and skills to develop naturally. The entire recruitment process typically takes place over many months at a time. The Soaring Angels may even incite local conflicts through various methods in order to control and speed up this development to the standard the Chapter seeks. When the quality of potential recruits is deemed adequate, the Astartes arrive on the world to collect them. However, when the demands of war require a faster demand for new warriors, the Space Marines may intervene directly by putting the aspirants through trials engineered to bring out the best and most savage qualities from these youths. Being able to recruit from many different worlds results in Space Marines possessing a wide range of abilities that, when united through the Chapter's culture, produces warriors armed with an arsenal of skills.

After enough aspirants meet the minimum number needed by the Chapter, the flotilla returns with them to the main fleet, all the while the aspirants receive further testing and training. For this purpose, many of the Chapter's Strike Cruisers are equipped with training areas and sparring pits where the overseeing Astartes can continue to push the aspirants limits. Organ implantation and hypno-indoctrination also take place on these ships, attended to by senior Apothecaries.

Deathwatch Service

Deathwatch Soaring Angel

Brother Jolo of the Soaring Angels (Dec.), who was seconded to the Deathwatch. Armed with a Bolter and an archaic 'Thunder-Edge' Pattern Chainsword.

Being in good standing with the Inquisition, the Chapter regularly provides Battle-Brothers to serve within the Deathwatch. Within the order, these Marines' combat experience against the alien is greatly valued, most primarily in missions concerning Genestealer Cults or Orks. The Chapter is also known to donate equipment to the Deathwatch as a sign of trust and respect, a gesture the Deathwatch and the Ordo Xenos as a whole have honoured. Common among these gifts are the jump packs which the Soaring Angels are known to masterfully craft. Such wargear is then often granted to those truly skilled in the assault doctrine. Warriors from various other Chapters have commented on the exquisite craftsmanship of these jump packs, owing to their stability, ease of control, and superior fuel conservation for allowing these Battle-Brothers to escape perilous situations or quickly out-maneuver foes.

Chapter Gene-Seed

Characteristically of Blood Angel-derived gene-stock, the Soaring Angels exhibit noble and even handsome-looking features. They sport fangs that rival the canines of the Space Wolves, and relative to most Space Marines, the members of the Chapter are long-lived as they do not show signs of age as much as others. However due to their lineage, they also suffer greatly from the twin flaws of the Red Thirst and Black Rage. Although interestingly, the Red Thirst's hold is somewhat lessened due to a deficient Omophagea organ. Whether or not this deficiency is accidental or a deliberate engineering of genetics by either the Chapter's Apothecarion or Genetors of the Adeptus Mechanicus, is unknown. When it comes to the Black Rage, those afflicted become more morose and despairing rather than display the unbridled anger that is typically visible in other Chapters with the flaw. This is not to say that they are any less ferocious or berserk, for on the eve of battle with the enemy in sight, all melancholy turns to red-hot anger.

Notable Members

  • Ramuel Argilles: Current Chapter Master of the Soaring Angels. A warrior of great renown and known for his commanding prescence, he is almost always seen in his relic Terminator armour.

Chapter Fleet

  • Luna Sangre: Battle-Barge that serves as both flagship and headquarters of the Soaring Angels
  • Hukom ng Kaluwalhatian: Battle-Barge, its name roughly translates to "Judge of Glory"
  • Promise of Victory: Battle Barge
  • Salimbal: Strike Cruiser
  • Baltapa's Steed: Strike Cruiser
  • Chariot Sacrosanct: Thunderhawk Gunship
  • Ultimo Batas: Thunderhawk Gunship, personal transport of Captain Mondragon

  • Blade of the Seven-Moon Serpent: A Force Sword of ancient design that harkens back to one of the many old myths on Baal. The wielder of this blade will find his psychic energy flowing freely around the blade without much difficulty, allowing for unobstructed use of the sword as a conduit for the Librarian's psychic wrath.
Soaring Angels Messenger of God

The Messenger of God as seen newly-returned from a recent engagement. Note the Imperial Fist honour markings near the front of the Land Raider.

  • Messenger of God: A Land Raider Redeemer gifted to the Chapter by the Imperial Fists, for the sacrifice of Brother Jolo during the Defense of Hive Yarreth. It bears the heraldry of the Fists as a reminder of the bond they share.

Chapter Appearance

Chapter Colours

MKX soaring angel

Chapter heraldry as displayed by a Primaris Intercessor of the 3rd Company, 7th Battleline Squad

The Soaring Angels sport bright blue colours, evocative of a bright sky. Alongside this, other areas on their armour as well as on their wargear such as shoulder trims and parts of vehicles feature deep green accents. Gold can also be seen on much of their regalia such as any Aquilas or Imperialis symbols on vehicles, ships, and weapons, as well as on honour markings, trinkets, and other adornments that may decorate their armour or equipment.

Company and battlefield role designation are usually displayed on the right shoulder pad, and while the battlefield role markings follow that of a standard Codex-compliant Chapter, the company markings resemble that of their parent Chapter, with each company being represented by a colored blood drop on top of the role indicator. Squad designation markings are also inherited from the Blood Angels, with 20 squads represented through coloured symbols on the right poleyn in lieu of a gothic number.

In a divergence from the traditional gold often associated with the Sanguinary Guard, the Chapter's order are all clad in bronze armour. The Death Company remain in black.

Company Markings:

  • 1st Company: White Skull
  • 2nd Company: Yellow Blood Drop
  • 3rd Company: Orange Blood Drop
  • 4th Company: Green Blood Drop
  • 5th Company: Red Blood Drop
  • 6th Company: Twin Yellow Blood Drops
  • 7th Company: Twin Orange Blood Drops
  • 8th Company: Twin Green Blood Drops
  • 9th Company: Twin Red Blood Drops
  • 10th Company: Purple Blood Drop
Soaring Angels Death Company Marine

A Battle-Brother of the Chapter who has succumbed to the Black Rage, inducted into the Death Company. This warrior has seen much fighting and the wounds upon him speak of the savage wrath they are sent to unleash.

Specialist Order Markings:

  • Sanguinary Guard: The Sanguinary Guard of the Chapter is represented by the symbol of a draconic bird of prey devouring a sun. This is predominantly displayed on their standards.
  • Death Company: The Death Company as differ slightly from tradition as they are marked with sky-blue saltires upon their blackened armour as opposed to blood red.

Chapter Badge

The Chapter's insignia consists of a winged blood drop with wings that furl inward, like an avian preparing to spread its pinions wide.

Indomitus Terminator soaring angel

Veteran of the 1st Company arrayed in Indomitus Pattern Terminator Armour returning after a recent engagement. Note the adornments on his armour, while minimal, show a connection of nobility and refinement.

Personal Heraldry

As with many of the other Chapters from Sanguinius' lineage, the Soaring Angels indulge in hobbies like fine art or poetry, although they are not able to hone their skills as much due to their constantly-embattled nature as a fleet-based Chapter that speeds from one conflict to the next. Nevertheless, these practices are apparent in their heraldry as each Battle-Brother is encouraged to add personal design and ornamentation to his own wargear, or commission fellow Brother-Marines or even Chapter serfs to craft heraldic devices. Outside their armour they can be seen wearing ornate robes often woven by the individual marine himself. Every member of the Chapter's command staff from the Chapter Master to his Captains all have paintings or sculptures of their own make visible across their personal ships. What can be considered their most prized possessions are their jump packs. Each is carefully tended to by the individual warrior and attending serfs, and are decorated finely with filigrees, scrolls, engravings, and gemstones, and serve as a testament to their dedication to Sanguinius.

Relations

Allies

As a whole, the Soaring Angels are generally accepted as worthy equals amongst the Chapters of the Blood. The Chapter is also in fairly good standing with the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos, notably providing the Deathwatch with not just its Battle-Brothers, but with useful equipment as well.

Enemies

As a voidfaring Chapter sailing from system to system, the Soaring Angels tend to find themselves embattled on planets infested with Genestealer Cults or in the destructive path of Ork WAAAGHS!, and so have developed a particular hatred for these types of foes. Recently the Chapter has been the target of raids by various warbands of Chaos Space Marines and have survived each engagement thus far, albeit with a measurable amount of losses which the Chapter vows to pay back in blood.

Notable Quotes

By the Soaring Angels

"Do not fear death brothers, Instead fear failure. If you die with your duty fulfilled then you may be reborn in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air."
—Chaplain Harpazo
"Nevermore will I be able to feel the wind and race through the air as I once did in life, but in the Angel's name I swear: Not one of you will rise past these clouds! Join me, alien mongrels! Descend to the cold earth of this world!"
—Venerable Ancient "Saturn", clearing swathes of Tyranid Gargoyles during the ravaging of Arganitas.
"Brothers! I can feel the excitement in your blood, the beating of your hearts ring true today! Feel pride in yourselves, for your elevation to this squad is an honour well earned. Now unfurl your wings! We have fury to rain down this day!"
—'Sarhento' Agis Galus, Assault Sergeant of the 8th Company "Angels Ire", addressing the newly promoted Assault Marines that he will lead.
"I have scant few memories of my home now, before the Chapter took me in. But it matters little anymore, for I have a new home, a new family, and a new purpose: To ensure the people of the Imperium do not lose theirs. And to this end I will give my all- my life, even. No less is expected from me by our father and the lord Emperor."
—Musings of Brother Oze Lazirus
"Great Angel. Father of Blood. Give me sight beyond sight, so that none may block my righteous arrow's path."
—"Mantra of Trueshot", taught to scouts to help them focus as they prepare a killing shot. Despite being considered an aspirant's aid, some instances of senior Battle-Brothers reciting the same chant have been observed.
"Yes, yes, Brother-Chaplain. I can tell you of that battle. Drukhari they were, a most vile foe. We cut them, bled them. For each one of us that fell, we exacted a bloodier toll on them. But at some point, my mind... it just... I felt it. I saw it, brother. In the blink of an eye, the rustling of profane fetishes on the xenos' armor became the jangling of coins upon plate... ceramite plate. The twisted grins of the alien melded into the baleful grimaces something more familiar. And then I saw. A single eye of hatred, glowing an unholy crimson against a sea of smoke-black malice. And at my feet, a horror unimaginable. A single feather, bloodied and ruined. I have told you all I saw and I wish to speak no more of it. Whatever happens next, I leave in the Emperor's hands."
—Psycho-Spiritual assessment of Brother Isacar Maximo after a skirmish against Dark Eldar.
"Eyes closed and ears covered, child. Be calm and trust in me. I will carry you to the evacuation site while my brothers fight off the greenskin hordes. When the roaring stops you may open your eyes and ears again, but do not look back. There is nothing left there that you must see."
—Brother Magway of the 4th Company "Paladins of Heaven", rescuing civilians from a doomed world in one of the systems within subsector Zanoa during the campaign to liberate it.
"And lo, another angel falls."
—Common phrase uttered in mournful respect by members of the Chapter when an Astartes falls in battle. In truth this is the last line in the Chapter's variation of the Moripatris recited by Chaplains as they induct an unfortunate Battle-Brother into the Death company.

About the Soaring Angels

Feel free to add your own

"To the outsider, the Soaring Angels' sympathy towards the common people of the Imperium may beget the impression of soft-hearted and weak warriors. That much is false, and I admit I have erred in this judgement as well. For in truth, they display the grace and mercy of our father Sagnuinius as a saviour of the weak and bringer of light to the darkest places. Having fought alongside these warriors, I have seen such holy ferocity near-equal to that of my own men. Together we shed our blood, and are thus battle-brothers eternal."
—Gabriel Seth, Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, in the aftermath of the Zanoa Liberation Campaign.
"I have scantly seen warriors who are able to draw art as well as they draw blood. These angels of the God-Emperor came to our world's defense and quickly decimated that which dared to assault His holy dominion. Their arrival stoked the fires in our local defense forces such that without any orders to, they joined the Space Marines in destroying the foe. Before they left, one among their number wove what might be the most exquisite banner I have ever laid my eyes upon, in honour of the men who stood with them that day. Made by angel's hands, now that's something you can't put a price on."
—An Imperial noble, whose planet was rescued by the Soaring Angels.
"Are we similar? Any resemblance is superficial, I assure you. Yes, we are both masters of the skies, warriors of flight and speed. But for us, it is a practical affair, a means to an end. For the Soaring Angels, it is a way of life, an essence foundational to their nature. They take to jump pack and aircraft with a natural alacrity, as if they were always meant to share in their primogenitor's wings. "
—Duas Crenalian, 2nd Company Captain, Optimus Legion
