- "When our blades is buried in the accursed flesh of an Ork, the God Emperor smiles!"
- — Proverb of the Smilodons.
The Smilodons are a loyalist non-Codex compliant Space Marine Successor Chapter created from the lineage of the proud and feared White Scars of a Unstated Founding in the 36th Millennium. The Chapter was created during the appalling period called the Reign of Blood, when the Renegade High Lord of Terra Goge Vandire gained control over the Adeptus Ministorum, Adeptus Administratum and became the Ecclesiarch. This resulted in massive purges and assassinations of countless of innocent Imperial citizens. In the end Goge Vandire was executed, for his crimes against the Emperor and the Mankind, by the Daughters of the Emperor Matriarch Alicia Dominica.
Chapter History
The Chapter was first created, by the order of the treacherous Goge Vandire himself, to function as an task force to protect and counter the threat from several Warp rifts in the Scarus Sector within the Segmentum Obscurus. For this task they was given the star fortress Stesen Angkasa, to be used as a mobile Fortress-Monastery. The Smilodons was a proud and highly devoted Codex compliant Chapter that used the writings of Roboute Guilliman in their war against the forces and the abominations of Chaos for centuries, until the Warp rifts closed themselves in mid-37th Millennium.

It was after this time, when the Chapter had become heavily understrength due to their long war against Chaos, they found the Feral World Zaman in the Scarus Sector. This planet became their homeworld and it took several centuries for the Smilodons to rebuild their strength once more. Zaman and it's population shaped and changed the culture of the Chapter and the brothers became almost as wild as the people from whom they recruited their new Neophytes.
In the present days the Smilodons is locked in a fierce guerrilla war against several ravaging warbands of Orks, that Abaddon recruited to act as a mercenary auxilia during the 13th Black Crusade, and in the aftermath is still terrorizing the Imperium in the Scarus Sector.

Chapter Combat Doctrine
Pict-file of a Smilodon Drop Pod assault.
The Smilodons make heavy use of Hit-and-run Warfare, High-Mobility Assaults and Guerilla Tactics. When they attack the enemy they always use their entire Chapter to overwhelm their opponents, they rarely split the Chapter in smaller detachments. With Jump Pack-equipped Assault Squads, Bikes and Land Speeders they harass the enemy and then hit the foe with a full assault of Drop Pods and heavy air support.
Chapter Beliefs and Recruitment
Pict-file of an Zamanian Fang.
The brothers of the Chapter are highly devoted servants of the God-Emperor of Mankind. When they fight, they do it the fury of Him in their eyes. They combine their fate with the culture of Zaman. The population of the planet worship the deadly predators called Zamanian Fangs. In local rituals the most powerful warriors of each clan is reciving the great honor to face one of these beasts in combat. Those few who are able to survive and kill one of them are regarded as immortals, and they are chosen by the Chapter as their new recruits.
Chapter Gene-Seed
The Gene-Seed of the Smilodons is stable and initially displayed no mutation. However, the wild savagery and thirst for war of the tribesmen of Zaman has spread amongst the Battle-Brothers thru the introduction of their genetic material. They are ferocious in battle and follows faithfully the combat teachings of Jaghatai Khan.
A native from Zaman that wears, according to tradition, a large skull of an Zamanian Fang on his shoulder.
Primarch's Curse: Zamanian Savagery
It is unknown whether the controlled savagery of the Smilodons came originally from Jaghatai Khan, or from the wild and fierce people of Zaman themselves, or even some combination of the two, but whatever the cause, there is a ferocity within their hearts and their blood that grants them great power, but which also threatens to consume all that they are and damn them.
All Smilodons are watchful for this necessary yet insidious savagery, and it is only with great discipline, humble introspection and often the watchfulness of their Battle-Brothers that they can hope to master themselves.
When the Chapter's genetic curse manifests itself in an affected Battle-Brother, it comes on in two stages:
- Stage 1 - A Moment Unrestrained: The Battle-Brother's discipline begins to slip and falter, allowing brief moments of untamed ferocity to emerge in the heat of battle. Often, the Battle-Brother will not even know that he is succumbing to this savagery, and it requires the presence of his brothers to warn him of his failure.
- Stage 2 - Suppressed Rage: Within the darkest reaches of the Battle-Brother's mind lurks the shadow of his rage and fury, seeking any opportunity to emerge, and causing the Battle-Brother to become belligerent and quick to anger.
