- "We are the expendable. We are the attrition. We sacrifice ourselves so that his people don't have to. We kill in his name so that they might live. We are the Malleus Argentum, the Silver Hammers of the most Holy Emperor. Now go forth, my brothers, go forth and kill his enemies! Today, we prove ourselves worthy of being called ‘his angels’!"
- — Tyber Mallum, Master of Sanctity
The chapter of the Silver Hammers was founded in the early days on M38 as part of the 23rd "Sentinel" founding as an auxiliary force during Abaddon's 8th Black Crusade from the lineage of the unforgiving Iron Hands. As of 999.M41, the chapter has made the feudal world of Ikaria its home. Its population stuck in a state of pre-industrialization enforced by the chapter.
Chapter History[]
Having been founded as part of the 23rd Founding, the Silver Hammers were deployed as part of counter-assaults and to reinforce the forces of the Astra Militarum during the closing years of Abaddon’s 8th Black Crusade. Having fought alongside the many forces of the Imperium, the Silver Hammers would shed the belief that the flesh was weak—a stance that gained the ire of their forebears, the Iron Hands. Unmoving in their new resolve, they were shunned by their progenitors, who went so far as not to recognize them as one of their successors. The Silver Hammers would lose the support provided by many forge worlds, who would fear retaliation by the Iron Hands. This has led many of the clan-companies in the chapter to become highly independent, creating their own stockpiles of wargear, apothecariums, and forges.
In late 747.M41 the Silver Hammers crusade fleet on a mission to assist in the defense of the Segmentum Ultima, where brutally attacked by a splinter fleet of the invading Hive Fleet Behemoth. The Silver Hammers, ill-equipped for void combat, would struggled against the Tyranid threat, loosing two companies in an emergency warp-jump, their flagship, and chapter master. In leu of this great loss, the Silver Hammers would see their survival as a rebirth with a new mission, the total annihilation of the Tyrranids from the galaxy.

Chapter Homeworld[]
The world of Ikaria was liberated by the Silver Hammers in the late 39th millennium after a failed uprising by its populous. The world is covered in large seas, and vast mountainous terrain, home to various, deadly, mega-fauna. A majority of the population have been hoarded into coastal cities that span from coast to mountain. In these cities the Silver Hammers have instituted warrior loges, and academies in a attempt to produce capable aspirants.

Chapter Recruitment[]
Upon entry into the academies, young boys train, and study daily to prepare them for either induction into the Silver Hammers, or acceptance into the Planetary Defense Force. Every year, a contest, the Klothos, is held for potential aspirants, with only the finest entering. The Klothos, or "Contest of Fate", will determine the child's destiny. Those who are deemed the winner, as inducted as a space marine, while all others are moved to the Planetary Defense Force.
Initiation[]
Upon becoming an aspirant, the child will be sent to the fortress monastery of the Silver Hammers from where they are stripped of their name, and released into a vast vineyard cultivated by the chapters chaplains. Here the children are taught patience through vinification. The days are long and grueling, and no child is allowed to rest until they have procured enough grapes to fill their barrel. The grapes are then tested by the chaplainry for quality, and if the initiate fails to meet their standards they have to start the ritual all over again. If the quality is met, then the child is made to stomp the fruits into a wine. This wine is then corked and sealed to be aged in the monasteries many catacombs—never to be unsealed until the death of the marine who made, it in honor of their memory. During such rituals, the initiate has been proceeding with the organ implantation.
Aspirants are then forced into brutal physical exercises, hours of prayer, hypno-indoctrination, live firearms training, and academic studies of historic events, wars, and campaigns.
