The Shields of the Void are a loyalist semi Codex-compliant Successor Chapter created from the lineage of the proud but brutal Iron Hands Space Marine Chapter during the 4th Founding. This Founding occurred following the events of the near-disastrous War of the Beast which laid waste to the galaxy and had even threatened the security of Terra itself.
Chapter History
The Shields of the Void Space Marine Chapter was created by the High Lords of Terra to protect the Forge World of Qula. This world holds invaluable artifacts so old that they have been forgotten by the rest of the Imperium. The Chapter has maintained their guard of the planet since the 32nd Millennium. They also constant have forces in joined operations with the Imperial Navy.
Notable Campaigns

- Navy Support (Date Unknown) - The Chapter has on numerous occasions joined forces with the Imperial Navy as a boarding force.
- Broken Shield (358.M35 - The minor Aeldari Craftworld Ifeth-Oiche attacked the Chapter and Qula, causing heavy casualties to the Imperial forces.
- Bulla Veria Crusade (101.M37-117.M37)
- Purification (522.M37) - The Space Hulk Black Fear was purge by the Chapter.
- Revenge of the Shield (580.M38) - The Chapter hunted down and destroyed the last remnants of the Craftworld Ifeth-Oiche.
- Xenos Incursions (869.M41) - The Chapter was involved in several void-battles against Aeldari pirates, Orks and Renegades that roamed the sector.
Chapter Homeworld
The homeworld of the Chapter is not a planet, but a vast asteroid belt that surround the Forge World Qula in the outskirts of the Chiros Sector within Segmentum Tempestus.
Forge World Qula
As one of the oldest known Forge Worlds, Qula has numerous of armories that hold ancient weapons and machines. Some artifacts are so old that not even the Adeptus Mechanicus itself know the purpose or how they are used. This reason alone make Qula a important asset to the Imperium.
Chapter Fortress-Monastery

Castle of the Shield is the Fortress-Monastery of the Chapter that is located within a huge asteroid. The exact location of the Fortress-Monastery is not known, but it is known that the asteroid belt is protected by large automatic cannons and self-propeled mines that attack any unauthorized vessels that comes near.

- Dragoons - The boarding assault force the Chapter. They make extensive use of ancient Boarding Shields and heavy shotguns and flamers.
- Grenadiers - The void-battle force of the Chapter. Use jetpacks and heavy charges to breach the hull or attack weak points on enemy vessels.
- Grey Brothers - The Grey Brothers are the Honor Guard of the Chapter that consists only of Dreadnoughts armed with extremely rare Volkite Culverins. They follow the Master of the Shield into battle.

Chapter Combat Doctrine
The Chapter was created to be specialized in Void Warfare and Space Hulk extermination. But as every Iron Hands Successors they are extremly brutal and dangerous on any battlefield they enter. The Chapter dont use any tanks in battle but utilize much more Dreadnoughts than is common among many other Space Marine Chapters.
Chapter Beliefs
The brothers of the Chapter believe only in one thing, to fight with honor. Those fallen heroes that has achieve a glorious and honorable battle will be reborn once more as a Dreadnought. To receive this ultimate goal is what every brother is striving to.
Chapter Gene-Seed
The Gene-seed, as much of the Iron Hands successors, is technically devoid of flaws in any major sense, with normal expected degeneration over the millennia, but otherwise no major faults or failed organs. As a Iron Hands Successors Chapter the brothers of the Shield of the Void are heavily upgraded with bionic substitutes. The more veteran a brother are, the more upgrades he has. The first bionic substitute a brother receive is when he is made a Squire of the Chapter.
Primarch's Curse: Steel Over Flesh
- Level 1 (A Disdain for Flesh) - The Battle-Brother perceives his own flesh as a hindrance. Scarring or punishing the biological portions of his body is the only way to sooth his anger.
- Level 2 (Cold Fury) - The ruthlessness of the Iron Hands manifests more strongly in the Battle-Brother, making him prone to aggression.
- Level 3 (Zero Tolerance) - All Shields of the Void abhor weakness, but the Battle-Brother has taken this attitude to an extreme. The Battle-Brother will seek to remove any perceived source of weakness, to the point of refusing to fight alongside allied forces such as the Imperial Guard - in extreme cases, even entering into open conflict with an allied force.
Recruitment

The Chapter only recruit new brothers from the ancient Forge World Qula that they were created to protect. Once every decade represents from the Chapter travel to the planet and bring back aspirants, or Knechts as they are called, to the Fortress-Monastery. From the day that the Knechts had arrived they undergo brutal tests to see if they are fit to become a Squire of the Chapter. Those who fail become Chapter Serfs or Servitors.

- Gerhart von Stern - von Stern is a Venerable Dreadnought and the Master of the Shield (Chapter Master) of the Shields of the Void. Armed with his golden shield and mighty sword he has together with his Honor Guard, the Grey Brothers, brought devastation upon countless of battlefields for over 5,000 years.

- Baron Manfred (Battle Barge) - This mighty Battle Barge have been with the Chapter since its founding.
Mark XII Magnus Assault Ram
The Forge World of Qula have developed a unique pattern of this vessel made specific for the Chapter, the Mark XII Magnus Assault Ram. This much larger version of the ordinary Caestus Assault Ram is used to transport either two Dreadnoughts or twenty Space Marines into battle.

- Clypeus Caelorum - The Shield of Heaven, in Low Gothic, is a huge golden shield that is carried by the Chapter Master, Manfred von Stern, into battle.
- Exterminatore - Exterminatore is the name one of the Volkite weapons that the Honor Guards, the Grey Brothers, are armed with.
- Virtus Gladio - This ancient Power Sword was given to the Chapter by the Imperial Navy.
- Mark IX Estuans Mundi - A new pattern of Plasma Cannon that was developed on Qula for the Chapter.

Chapter Colours
The power armour of the Chapter is painted in gold with grey armorials. The plastron (chest guard) have a large golden shield with the chapter badge upon it . A black coloured squad specialty symbol stenciled on right armorial indicates a battle-brother's assigned squad specialty (Fire Support, Close Support, Battleline, Veteran or Command). A small white gothic numeral stenciled on the squad specialty symbol indicates squad assignment. A larger white gothic numeral stenciled on the left poleyn (knee guard), indicates company assignment.
