The Sentinels of Dorn are a 4th Founding Successor Chapter of the stalwart Imperial Fists. Operating from their aptly-named fortress-monastery of Bastion, the Sentinels of Dorn are deployed to battlefields across the galaxy. Wilhelm is the current Chapter Master of the Sentinels of Dorn, having served in this position since 980.M41.
Chapter History
Founding
Shortly the end of the cataclysmic War of the Beast in 546.M32, Lord Commander Maximus Thane ordered the raising of many new Astartes Chapters, leading to the greatest Founding since the First. The Sentinels of Dorn were among the new Astartes Chapters raised during the 4th Founding from the gene-seed of Rogal Dorn.
The very first Chapter Master of the Sentinels of Dorn was Peregrinus, a veteran of the War of the Beast and a former member of the Fists Exemplar Chapter prior to its dissolvement. Aside from Peregrinus, the other original officers of the Sentinels of Dorn were drawn from the Imperial Fists Chapter.
The Feudal World of Reikhaven in the Teutonic Sector was chosen as the Chapter Homeworld of the Sentinels of Dorn given its close proximity to several strategically important locations. The Sentinels of Dorn constructed their fortress-monastery on Reikhaven's lifeless and oversized moon. In time, the moon became known as the "Bastion Moon" while their fortress-monastery came to be known as simply "The Bastion."

Ever since the Black Crusade of Warsmith Ferrox, the Sentinels of Dorn and the Steel Crusaders have forged a nigh unbreakable alliance.

Combat Doctrine
Like their predecessors, the Sentinels of Dorn excel in siege warfare, both offensively and defensively. The Sentinels of Dorn are also known to deploy total war tactics, such as planetary assaults, urban warfare, armoured warfare trench warfare, suppressions, amd purges.
During offensive sieges, Battle-Brothers of the Sentinels of Dorn commonly form the spearhead of the assault, bringing a formidable weight of power to bear on the weakest point in the enemy defences and cracking it open no matter the cost, allowing lesser forces to consolidate before moving on to the next objective. During defensive sieges, the Sentinels of Dorn identify the point the enemy is most likely to assault, and hold it come what may. An army of half a million Imperial Guardsmen might rely upon a single company of the Sentinels of Dorn to take or hold a fortress.
Chapter Beliefs
Chapter Customs and Demeanor
In general, the Sentinels of Dorn are pragmatic, stoic, and austere. The Chapter conducts itself in a highly orthodox and "by-the-book" fashion. Like their primogenitors, the Sentinels of Dorn are obsessed with perseverance in the face of hardships and do not handle failure well. Despite their typically stoic appearance, the Sentinels of Dorn do attempt to form some sort of comradery with the "lesser forces" they serve alongside. However, the humorless behavior and literal-mindedness of the Sentinels of Dorn make interaction with normal humans rather difficult.
Like the Imperial Fists before them, the Sentinels of Dorn subscribe to the Junker Model of Behavior, a model that demands dedication to absolute detail in both military operations and individual conduct.
While the Sentinels of Dorn show little to no emotion on the surface, one emotion they do clearly show is pride. The Sentinels of Dorn react harshly towards any perceived slight against their honour and are known to hold grudges for millennia.
Chapter Gene-Seed
Primarch's Curse: Death Before Dishonour
The Chapter's Primarch was a deeply devoted warrior who fought tirelessly at the right hand of the Emperor, but even this towering exemplar had his flaws, as he himself is known to have acknowledged. Perhaps because of his dedication, Rogal Dorn was devastated when the Emperor fell, and shouldered far more than his fair share of the blame. He cast himself into a crusade of redemption that only ended in the terrible crucible of the Iron Cage, re-forging the Legion in the bloody furnace of war. Dorn's glorious legacy lives on through his gene-sons, but so too does his curse.
Stage 1 (Suffer Not Failure) - The Battle-Brother believes himself deficient in some manner, whether real or imagined, and becomes truculent and obstructive when ordered to redeploy in the face of a stronger foe. When acting as a squad leader or Deathwatch Kill-Team leader, he makes demands of his squad that others might consider unreasonable, and views any disagreement as outright disobedience.
Stage 2 (Beware Hubris) - The Battle-Brother spends his every waking moment brooding on past battles, seeking even the slightest flaw in his own deeds, and those of others. While he stops short of outright criticism of his Battle-Brothers, he condemns his own actions as falling short of the example set by his Primarch, and seeks to redeem himself in the fires of battle.
Stage 3 (None Are Flawless) - The Battle-Brother obsessively reviews every detail of every mission he takes part in, finding fault with his own actions and those of his squad. He becomes withdrawn, maudlin and confrontational, and unwilling to accept or issue any order that does not result in imminent battle.
Other Mutations
Notable Members
- Falko: A Lieutenant of the Fifth Company, Falko is considered a "living hero" of the Sentinels of Dorn Chapter who is active in the 42nd Millennium.
Chapter Appearance
While the Sentinels of Dorn allow for some degree of customization of a Battle-Brother's armor, they absolutely eschew what they consider to be "garishness." Most customization of design and trappings are simple and brutalistic, much like those of the Imperial Fists Legion.
Chapter Colours
The armor of the Sentinels of Dorn Chapter is orange with a silver or ebony aquila on the chest.
Company, Squad, and Specialist Markings
The Sentinels of Dorn adhere closely to the Codex Astartes in terms of company, squad, and specialist markings.
The Sentinels of Dorn denote company via the color of their pauldron trim.
A Battle-Brother's speciality is denoted by a black or specialist marking emblazoned on their right shoulder inset. A white gothic numeral that indicates a Battle-Brothers squad is superimposed over the specialist marking.
The Sentinels of Dorn utilize a red helm with a small skull icon to distinguish Sergeants and a white helm to distinguish Veterans. A Veteran Sergeant is distinguishable by a red helm with a white stripe and small skull icon.
A Lieutenant of the Sentinels of Dorn is distinguished by white and red stripes and a skull icon on their helm as well as a black skull with a red sunburst on their right shoulder inset.
Chapter Badge
The Chapter badge of the Sentinels of Dorn is a fist grasping a halo. Comparisons can be made between the Chapter badge of the Sentinels of Dorn and that of the Iron Lords Chapter.
Chapter Fleet
Chapter Relics
- Heldenhammer: Master-crafted Thunder Hammer once weilded by Peregrinus, first Chapter Master of the Sentinels of Dorn.
- Arms of Pelinal: A relic Power Sword and Force Shield dating back to the Great Crusade. They were once wielded by Captain Pelinal of the 57th Company of the bygone Imperial Fists Legion. Pelinal fell during the Battle of the Iron Cage alongside the entirety of the 57th Company, with his sword and shield falling into the hands of the Iron Warriors. The Arms of Pelinal were liberated by the Black Templars during one of the early Black Crusades. Following the Blackfire War of M33, the Black Templars gifted the Arms of Pelinal to the newly founded Sentinels of Dorn Chapter.

Relations
Allies
- Steel Crusaders: The Sentinels of Dorn have made unlikely allies in the usually clannish Steel Crusaders Chapter. The initial alliance between the Sentinels of Dorn and the Steel Crusaders was their mutual rivalry against the Chaos Space Marine Vjun, a treacherous Warsmith of the Iron Warriors Traitor Legion.
