"The Sanguinary Accipiters' loyalty to the Imperium is unbreakable, a steadfast bond that guides their every action. They are the vanguard of honor, unwavering in their dedication to defend humanity's sacred realm."
—Grand Margrave Kragen Blayze

Created during the 8th Founding in M34, the Sanguinary Accipiters are a Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels. The chapter specializes in aerial combat, close quarters combat, and have many specialized heavily armored vehicles. Participating in many battles and crusades, the chapter has gained honor and renown within the Duros Sector where they have been tasked with protecting systems within sub-sector of Kerbexis. They protect the systems of Vykore, Kronis, Paef'ier, Ghoger, Xanthrin, Courest, Larence, Dyth, and Treas'di, their homeworld being within the Vykore system on the planet of Vaekoria. Plagued with the gene-seed mutation of the Red Thirst the Sanguinary Accipiters have made it their mission to remove the imperfection. This quest has allowed research of blood samples from around the imperium to be studied and acquired for testing within the laboratory of Vykier, their fortress-monastery.

Chapter History

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, amidst the sprawling expanse of the war-torn galaxy, the Sanguinary Accipiters stood as beacons of light and unwavering loyalty. Born from the noble gene-seed of the Blood Angels, they carried within them the indomitable spirit and thirst for justice that defined their predecessors. Throughout the annals of history, the Sanguinary Accipiters etched their names in blood and honor, their deeds recounted in tales of valor and sacrifice.

In the year 980.M35, the Sanguinary Accipiters found themselves at the forefront of the massive Hrud rising. The chapter was tasked with cleansing the Duros sector, more specifically the sub-sector of Kerbexis. The Sanguinary Accipiters led the cleansing of the sub-sector while other chapters led the attacks in the other sectors.

The esteemed warriors of the 3rd Company, renowned for their prowess in combat and unyielding resolve, heeded the call to arms. United with other valiant chapters, they embarked on a noble quest to reclaim the sacred Ecclesiarchal Palace, an ancient bastion of faith, from the clutches of heresy and corruption. Clad in their resplendent red and black armor, adorned with the proud emblem of their chapter, they surged forward with unshakable determination. Shoulder to shoulder with their brothers-in-arms, the Sanguinary Accipiters unleashed their wrath upon the enemy with precision and fury. Their expertise in close quarters combat and mastery of swift assaults proved pivotal in breaking the enemy's ranks and striking fear into the hearts of those who dared to oppose the righteous cause of the Imperium. They carved a path of blood and fire through the imposing defenses of the Ecclesiarchal Palace, leaving a trail of vanquished enemies in their wake. With every swing of their chainswords and the thunderous roar of their bolters, they pushed deeper into the heart of darkness.

As the siege unfolded, the Sanguinary Accipiters forged an unbreakable bond with their fellow Space Marines. United by a shared purpose and an unyielding resolve, they epitomized the strength and unity of the Adeptus Astartes. The battlefield became a tapestry of heroism and sacrifice, as battle-brothers from different chapters fought side by side, their actions guided by an unwavering loyalty to the Emperor and the Imperium. With each passing moment, the combined might of the Sanguinary Accipiters and their allied chapters grew stronger, unrelenting in their pursuit of victory. Their efforts did not go unnoticed, for their actions resonated far beyond the battlefield. Their unwavering loyalty and their commitment to the defense of Terra propelled them forward, allowing them to withstand the arduous trials of the siege. The annals of history celebrated their triumph as stalwart defenders of the Imperium, forever etching their names alongside the heroes of old. The Sanguinary Accipiters emerged from the crucible of battle as a beacon of hope and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Space Marines.

In the subsequent centuries, the Sanguinary Accipiters continued to fulfill their sacred duty, participating in numerous campaigns and crusades that spanned the galaxy. During the Age of Redemption in M37, they answered the resolute call of the High Lords of Terra, joining forces with the esteemed Grey Knights and other valiant chapters. United by a shared sense of duty, this formidable alliance was born in response to a mobilization order that echoed throughout the Imperium. The Sanguinary Accipiters, adorned in their iconic crimson and gold, stood alongside their brethren, prepared to face the direst of threats that loomed over the Imperium's domains. As they embarked on their sacred mission, the Sanguinary Accipiters forged an unbreakable bond with the Grey Knights and their other noble allies. Shoulder to shoulder, they epitomized the strength and resilience of the Adeptus Astartes, ready to confront any adversary that dared to challenge the Imperium's sovereignty. With hearts aflame with unwavering loyalty, they heeded the call of the High Lords, determined to defend humanity and uphold the values of the Emperor.

In the year 010.M37, the Sanguinary Accipiters were entrusted with the protection of the Dyth and Treas'di systems, while also being allowed to form a successor chapter. This decision was of great significance as it allowed the Sanguinary Accipiters to extend their reach and cover more systems, while simultaneously providing additional support for Imperial Crusades and other campaigns. The formation of the Blood Divers, the successor chapter to the Sanguinary Accipiters, greatly benefited both chapters, strengthening their collective ability to defend the Imperium's domains and purify them from the taint of heresy.

In the chronicles of their storied history, the Sanguinary Accipiters took part in key conflicts that shook the foundations of the Imperium. They played a role in the Gothic War, which took place in the neighboring sector, pitting them against the vile forces of Abaddon the Despoiler in 139.M41. Alongside their successor chapter, the Blood Divers, as well as the Warden Trading Guild, and Houses Ouilli and Varde, they sent their fleets in support of the Imperium. This combined fleet, totaling about 110 capable ships, unleashed its fury upon the enemy, desperately striving to repel the traitorous onslaught. It was a battle that would test their mettle and resolve, as they fought tooth and nail against the relentless forces of Chaos, determined to protect the Imperium's borders.

The Sanguinary Accipiters also took part in the harrowing Tyrannic Wars, a series of conflicts against the Tyranid menace that threatened the very existence of humanity. In 745.M41, they faced Hive Fleet Behemoth, battling fiercely to prevent its advance and the consumption of countless worlds. Their valiant efforts played a significant role in stemming the tide of the ravenous Tyranids. Later, in 993.M41 and 999.M41, they once again confronted the alien horror, this time against Hive Fleet Kraken and Hive Fleet Leviathan, respectively. These brutal conflicts pushed the Sanguinary Accipiters to the limits of their strength and endurance, as they fought with unwavering resolve to protect the Imperium from annihilation.

Yet, perhaps one of the most defining moments in the Sanguinary Accipiters' history occurred during the defense of Baal, the very birthplace of their gene-seed and the stronghold of the Blood Angels. The encroaching forces threatened to overrun the planet, their sinister presence looming over Baal like a dark cloud. Grand Margrave Fane Dire, a revered leader known for his strategic brilliance and unwavering dedication, stood at the forefront of the Sanguinary Accipiters' fleet.

Prior to the devastating battle that would claim the life of Grand Margrave Fane Dire, the formidable fleet of the Sanguinary Accipiters descended upon the war-torn skies above Baal. Two Battle Barges, seven Strike Cruisers, nineteen Frigates, and twenty one Destroyers formed an imposing display of naval power, their hulls adorned with the sacred iconography of the Blood Angels and the Sanguinary Accipiters. As the fleet materialized in the void, its arrival along with hundreds of other chapter voidships, giving the brothers preparing the defenses below a glimmer of light in the impending darkness.

The grim visage of their Battle Barges, bristling with weapons and reinforced plating, cast an ominous shadow over the battlefield, while the sleek and deadly Strike Cruisers positioned themselves strategically, ready to rain destruction upon the enemy. The Frigates and Destroyers, agile and swift, weaved through space, scouting for potential threats and securing vital flanks. Their weapons systems primed, they stood poised to provide critical support to the allied fleet in orbit of Baal.

Grand Margrave Fane Dire, standing at the helm of his flagship, surveyed the battlefield with grim determination. His voice resounded through the vox channels, rallying his warriors and invoking the spirit of Sanguinius within their hearts. As the fleet's engines roared to life, the Sanguinary Accipiters descended upon the enemy forces, unleashing a storm of wrath and fury. The Battle Barges unleashed devastating barrages upon the enemy vessels, their lance batteries and macrocannons tearing through flesh and armor. Strike Cruisers provided precise and surgical strikes, targeting high-value targets and providing support to the combined fleet. The nimble Frigates and Destroyers darted through the fray, engaging in hit-and-run tactics, decimating enemy vessels, and providing invaluable support to their comrades.

The combined might of the fleet and the ground forces, under the leadership of Grand Margrave Fane Dire, pushed back the enemy's advance. Their coordinated efforts and unwavering resolve created breathing room for the defenders, allowing them to regroup and counterattack with renewed vigor. However, as the battle raged on, the Sanguinary Accipiters suffered heavy losses. The enemy's relentless onslaught took its toll, resulting in the destruction of all but one Strike Cruiser. Sacrifices were made, and the chapter mourned the fallen, honoring their memory amid the chaos. The enemy forces, disoriented and overwhelmed by the combined might of the Blood Angels and the Sanguinary Accipiters, began to crumble and retreat.

In the aftermath of the battle, Grand Margrave Fane Dire was dead, leaving a void within the chapter that would be felt deeply. However, his sacrifice and the valor displayed by the Sanguinary Accipiters did not go unnoticed. Witnessing the bravery and resilience of the Sanguinary Accipiters, Primarch Roboute Guilliman arrived on Baal to assess the situation. Recognizing the chapter's dedication and the need to replenish their ranks, he authorized the deployment of Primaris Space Marines to bolster their forces. With the arrival of the Primaris reinforcements, the Sanguinary Accipiters found hope amidst the loss. Under the leadership of Kragen Blayze, who would assume the mantle of Grand Margrave , they would rebuild and honor the sacrifices made during the battle.

United in purpose, the Sanguinary Accipiters, supported by their new Primaris brethren, would continue their eternal duty as defenders of the Imperium, carrying the memory of their fallen brothers and the legacy of Baal's salvation. The fleet that once descended upon the skies above Baal, battered but unyielding, would forever be etched in the annals of their history as a symbol of their unwavering devotion to the Emperor and the defense of humanity.

As the chapters of the Sanguinary Accipiters and the Blood Divers stood united, they encountered new challenges in the systems of Pherios and Cestilia. Chaos had spread its tendrils, corrupting the innocent and causing untold suffering. In the face of such darkness, Chapter Master Elijah Sicamedes of the Blood Divers led a valiant crusade, determined to purge the systems of the vile corruption and restore hope to the beleaguered populace.

Recognizing the severity of the threat and the importance of their aid, the Sanguinary Accipiters answered the call to battle. United as one, the combined forces of the Sanguinary Accipiters and the Blood Divers fought with unwavering determination and unyielding resolve. Shoulder to shoulder, they unleashed their fury upon the enemy, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory.

Led by Chapter Master Elijah Sicamedes, a formidable warrior whose reputation as a cunning strategist and master of melee combat preceded him, they embarked on a campaign that would test the limits of their strength and resolve. With a flaming sword in hand and a heart filled with unwavering resolve, he led his brethren into the heart of the corrupted systems.

As the crusade unfolded, the Sanguinary Accipiters' angelic fury and the Blood Divers' unyielding determination proved to be a formidable combination. Together, they unleashed devastating assaults upon the Chaos forces, their joint might tearing through their enemies like a storm unleashed. With every battle fought and every victory won, the taint of Chaos receded, replaced by the light of hope and redemption.

The citizens of Pherios and Cestilia, who had long suffered under the yoke of Chaos, looked to their saviors with renewed faith and gratitude. The Sanguinary Accipiters and the Blood Divers had become beacons of hope, embodying the unwavering determination and sacrifice of the Space Marines. Their united front had brought not only victory but also the promise of a brighter future.

However, the forces of Chaos were not so easily vanquished. In the depths of their corrupted strongholds, the heretic warlords and their malevolent champions plotted their revenge, seeking to unleash unholy forces that would turn the tide in their favor. Elijah Sicamedes and Kragen Blayze, aware of the impending storm, devised a daring plan. They would lead a surgical strike against the heart of Chaos, infiltrating the very sanctums where darkness thrived. With precision strikes and relentless assault, they aimed to sever the head of the serpent and shatter the enemy's morale.

The battle that ensued was nothing short of a cataclysmic clash between the forces of light and darkness. Bolters roared, chainswords sang their deadly symphony, and blood was spilled in torrents as the heroes of the Imperium fought against the twisted minions of Chaos. The battle raged on; each step forward met with fierce resistance. Lives were lost, sacrifices made, but the determination of the Blood Divers and the Sanguinary Accipiters remained unbroken. They fought not only for victory but for the very souls of those trapped within the grasp of Chaos.

In the end, their perseverance paid off. The foul warlords were slain, their strongholds razed, and the systems of Pherios and Cestilia were freed from the clutches of Chaos. The people rejoiced, their spirits lifted from the weight of despair, as they witnessed the triumph of the Imperium over the forces of darkness. Elijah Sicamedes and Kragen Blayze stood side by side, their armor bloodied, their souls scarred but resolute.

With the battle won, they shared a moment of solemn reflection before turning their gaze to the stars, knowing that their duty to protect the Imperium of Man would never falter. United in their purpose, the Blood Divers and the Sanguinary Accipiters stood as living embodiments of hope, a testament to the unwavering determination and sacrifice of the Space Marines. Their crusade against the forces of Chaos served as a reminder to all that the light of the Emperor's divine grace would always prevail, no matter how dark the night may seem.

Planet of Vaekoria

Departmento Cartographicae pict-file of Vaekoria, Chapter homeworld of the Sanguinary Accipiters.

The Sanguinary Accipiters' home world is Vaekoria located within the Vykore System. Vaekoria is the fourth planet in the system. A cold bioluminescent Gaia world, Vaekoria is home to many rare and interesting flora and fauna not found on most planets in the Imperium. Vaekoria itself looks like any other terrestrial world until you reach the surface. The rainy cold jungles of the planet block large amounts of the sun during the day which has caused the native plants and animals to develop bioluminescents. There is liquid ammonia on the planet in place of water. The rainfall of Vaekoria is mainly a combination of ammonia and water, while the lakes, oceans, and seas are ammonia based. Vaekoria is mainly covered in dense jungle that hides the jungle floor from the sky. There are also mountain ranges, that cross certain parts of the planet, that extend into the atmosphere. Due to the distance of the planet from Vykore, only about 47%. On top of that, the jungle floor only will see about 15% of that light due to the canopy above. Leading to an almost always nighttime feel while in the jungle of the planet. The flora and fauna glows during the day though has a completely different feel during the night, where the brightest things are the flora and fauna.

With a population of 4.21 billion inhabitants, it is the most populated planet under the protection of the Sanguinary Accipiters. Vaekoria is the home of the Sanguinary Accipiters and the Warden Trading Guild. The capital city, Vakor, hosts hundreds of millions of inhabitants. Towering structures and sprawling streets, Vakor is the home to thousands of guilds that operate in the sector. The people of Vakor have entrusted their safety almost solely to the Sanguinary Accipiters, whose fortress-monastery is in the mountain range near the city. As the Sanguinary Accipiters’ Grand Margrave is the Martial of the planet he is also named the Guardian of the capital city. Grand Margrave Kragen Blayze is neither loved nor feared by the people, instead, he is respected and is expected to do what is best for the people of Vakor. The people view the chapter as a guardian force that defends them from whatever monstrosities may befall their beloved planet. The Sanguinary Accipiters view the people of Vaekoria as family and will defend the people to their dying moments. Grand Margrave Kragen Blayze formed the Vaekorian Defense Force (VDF), with the purpose of defending Vaekoria from invaders if the chapter is not in a system to provide defense for themselves.

Fortress-Monastery

Deep within the mountainous region of Vegrastin, the Sanguinary Accipiters' fortress-monastery, Vykier, stands as a testament to their unwavering dedication to duty and protection. Vykier is a grand structure nestled in the valley of the tallest mountains, its imposing presence dominating the landscape. At the heart of Vykier rises a towering spire known as the Angel's Tear, a marvel of engineering that pierced through the summit of the surrounding mountain. The Angel's Tear provides an unparalleled vantage point, offering a commanding view over the surrounding terrain and the heavens above. Constructed with a formidable combination of black granite and red rhyolite, the fortress-monastery exudes an aura of strength and resilience. Its foundations were reinforced with plasteel and adamantium, ensuring its ability to withstand even the most relentless of assaults.

Approaching Vykier from the ground is an impossible feat, for it is a fortress protected by the heavens themselves. Surrounding its mighty walls are towering macrocannons, point-defense systems, and an array of laser defenses, forming an impenetrable barrier against any who dares to challenge its might. Legends speak of Vykier's invincibility, capable of defending for years against any adversary, though its true test had yet to come. Hidden beneath the surface of Vykier lie multiple expansive generatoriums, pulsating with power to fuel the fortress-monastery and its formidable defenses. These generators sustain the operation of the three prominent defense lasers—Fury, Vengeance, and Retribution. Each laser is a force to be reckoned with, capable of unleashing devastating salvos against any hostile threat that approaches the planet. Throughout the planet's surface, hundreds of missile silos are strategically positioned, ready to engage in ground-to-orbit defense at a moment's notice. These silos serve as a final line of defense ensuring that Vykier's protection extends far beyond its towering walls.

While the central fortress of Vykier serves as the focal point of the monastery's defense, numerous smaller fortresses and buildings are scattered across the planet. These structures, each fortified, houses brothers of the 10th Company of Scout Marines and Imperial Guardsmen. They stand as vigilant guardians, ready to maintain order and protect their assigned areas in the event of invasion or attack. Vykier and its accompanying fortresses are not merely fortifications; they are beacons of hope and safety for the citizens of the planet and its surrounding system. The Sanguinary Accipiters had built their fortress-monastery with the sole purpose of safeguarding those under their charge, ensuring their protection against any threat that dares to encroach upon their domain. Vykier, a symbol of the chapter's unwavering resolve, stands as a bastion of strength, ready to weather the storms of war and defend the innocent. Its imposing silhouette and impregnable defenses are a testament to the unyielding spirit of the Chapter.

The Ascendant Trials

In the dark and foreboding halls of the Sanguinary Accipiters' fortress-monastery Vykier, a sinister tradition unfolds—a set of grim and harrowing games, created after the Wrath of the Chaos Sun campaign in 010.M37, designed to determine which house will reign supreme. These brutal contests push the boundaries of sanity and survival, reflecting the dark nature of the Chapter. These games are hosted once the Accretion Vault fills with un-pure blood and is distributed to participants and watchers of the games.

Blood-soaked arenas bear witness to the carnage and brutality that unfolds during these deadly trials. The combatants, drawn from the houses of Vykier, engage in merciless duels that leave no room for mercy or compassion. Their weapons, honed to a wicked edge, carve through flesh and bone with gruesome efficiency, while the air resonates with agonized screams and the stench of spilled blood.

The games, far from honorable displays of martial prowess, descend into a macabre theater of violence and despair. Participants are forced to face their deepest fears and confront the very essence of their darkest desires. Each trial becomes a psychological torment, pushing the warriors to their limits and beyond, as they grapple with the demons that lurk within their own souls.

Death is an ever-present specter, lurking in the shadows of the arena. Fallen combatants are left to lie in a pool of their own lifeblood, their broken bodies a testament to the unforgiving nature of the games. Spectators, their faces twisted with sadistic pleasure, revel in the spectacle of suffering and demise, their applause echoing like a sinister chorus of malevolence.

Amidst the chaos, alliances are forged and betrayed, as houses vie for dominance over one another. Loyalties shatter, and treachery becomes a whispered currency. The games become a crucible of corruption, where the most cunning and ruthless rise to prominence, their hands stained with the blood of their fallen rivals.

House Victory

In the awe-inspiring fortress-monastery Vykier, the winning House in the challenging games is granted a prestigious honor that celebrates their skill and valor. This coveted accolade signifies the House's exceptional prowess and serves as a symbol of admiration and respect within the Sanguinary Accipiters Chapter.

As the intense trials culminate in a climactic finale, the victorious House is rewarded with the revered laurel crowns. Steeped in tradition and legend, the laurel crowns carry the weight of the Chapter's heritage and the valor of those who came before. It is a symbol of their connection to the noble lineage of the Sanguinary Accipiters and the legacy they uphold. The members of the victorious house will don the laurel crowns on their armor as well as being named the Ascendant House, until the next Ascendant Trial. The Ascendant House is essentially seen as the current 1st company and is the most venerated.

Furthermore, the victorious House is honored with a grand ceremony, witnessed by their fellow Battle-Brothers and esteemed members of the Chapter. During this momentous event, they are commended for their exceptional achievements, their names etched into the annals of Sanguinary Accipiters' history. The winning House becomes a beacon of honor and achievement, inspiring others to reach new heights of excellence.

Emperor's Divinity

A direct quote from the current Grand Margrave Kragen Blayze, “As Grand Margrave, I hold the belief that the Emperor of Mankind possesses god-like qualities and is revered as a divine figure by many within the Imperium. However, the exact nature of the Emperor and the extent of his godhood is a matter of theological and philosophical debate within the Imperium. The Emperor's psychic power, unparalleled wisdom, and his ability to shape the destiny of humanity certainly make him appear god-like. He is worshipped as the Omnissiah by the Adeptus Mechanicus and revered as a divine figure by many Imperial citizens. His influence and guidance extend beyond the physical realm, and his psychic presence on the Golden Throne continues to protect and guide the Imperium. However, it is important to note that the Emperor himself has rejected the title of a god during his lifetime. He sought to guide humanity towards a secular future, promoting science, reason, and the eradication of superstition. The Imperial Cult that emerged after his internment on the Golden Throne has deified him, but the Emperor's true intentions and beliefs regarding his own divinity remain a subject of interpretation. Ultimately, my duty as a Grand Margrave is to uphold the Emperor's vision and defend humanity, regardless of the exact nature of his divinity. Whether he is a god, a supremely powerful psychic being, or a figurehead of inspiration, my loyalty and devotion lie with the Emperor and the Imperium of Man. It is through his teachings and guidance that we find purpose, strength, and the will to face the unending challenges of the galaxy.”

Chapter Recruitment

The Sanguinary Accipiters recruit from the feral world of Strontus, located in the system of Treas'di. The process for recruitment is much like that of the Blood Angels themselves. Recruits must go through a process of training against each other for a minimum of 13 months, then they are permitted to take the Blood Challenge. This challenge requires the recruit to traverse the planet to a specific point on the planet, its tallest mountain in the Blood Range in the planet's Northwestern Hemisphere. Located here are the planet's deadliest wildlife, climate, and landscape. Once the recruit arrives at the point where they are allowed to proceed with the next challenge, they must scavenge the region for arms and armor, then fight to the death with 24 other recruits. Only 10 may live; it's possible that no one lives. The recruits that achieve this are allowed to become Scout Trainees. After years of training, they may graduate to become a part of the scouts.

Chapter Gene-Seed

The gene-seed of the Sanguinary Accipiters, descendants of the noble Sanguinius, stands apart for its relatively few flaws or aberrations, with one notable exception—the psychic imprint and bloodlust inherited from their gene-father. While not as severely afflicted as some of their brethren, the Sanguinary Accipiters are not exempt from the challenges and horrors that come with their bloodline. Their psychic connection and thirst for battle are burdens they must bear, just like any other chapter derived from the noble lineage of Sanguinius.

Gene Flaws

Red Thirst

The Red Thirst is a genetic flaw that affects some of the Blood Angels and their successor chapters, including the Sanguinary Accipiters. It is a darker aspect of the Blood Angels' gene-seed, inherited from their Primarch Sanguinius, and causes a strong, uncontrollable desire for bloodshed and violence in those afflicted. However, there is a unique quest that arises from their connection to the Red Thirst—an unending search for the purest and most potent blood that might help them satiate the desires that stir within their gene-seed. In their quest for the purest blood, the Sanguinary Accipiters embark on perilous missions to acquire the life essence of formidable adversaries and those who have shown exceptional courage and valor in battle. This sacred blood is carefully collected and preserved within the Accretion Vault deep within the fortress-monastery of Vykier.

During significant gatherings and ceremonies, such as the Ascendant Trials, this revered blood is distributed to every brother in attendance. Each warrior, regardless of rank, receives a vial containing the potent life force. By consuming the blood during these moments, the Sanguinary Accipiters seek to draw strength and control from the essence of their fallen brothers and worthy adversaries. This connection to the collected blood is believed to help them maintain their balance, harnessing the Red Thirst's power without succumbing to its darker aspects. It serves as a reminder of their shared heritage with the Primarch Sanguinius and the legacy of their Chapter. Yet, it remains a constant struggle, as the Red Thirst lurks ever-present within their gene-seed, a primal force that must be honed and tempered in their unyielding pursuit of excellence on the battlefield.

Black Rage

The Black Rage is a shadow that looms over the Sanguinary Accipiters, an ever-present reminder of the tragic flaw inherent in their gene-seed. Like their Blood Angels progenitors, the Sanguinary Accipiters are not immune to the torment of the Black Rage—a genetic affliction that plagues the descendants of Sanguinius. When battle-brothers succumb to this curse, they are consumed by the memories and madness of their Primarch's final moments during the Horus Heresy.

As the Black Rage takes hold, affected warriors are overwhelmed by visions of Sanguinius's final battle aboard the Vengeful Spirit, where he fought valiantly against the traitor Warmaster Horus. In their minds, they relive the desperate fight and the sorrowful sacrifice of their beloved gene-father. This overwhelming grief and fury propel those afflicted by the Black Rage into a state of uncontrollable berserk rage. They lash out at friend and foe alike, their eyes ablaze with an unnatural light, and their strength amplified beyond mortal measure. Such marines become a terrifying force on the battlefield, striking fear into the hearts of their enemies.

However, as the battle-brothers of the Sanguinary Accipiters embrace their dual nature of savage fury and noble purpose, they have developed unique methods to cope with the Black Rage. First and foremost, the entire chapter, from the lowliest neophyte to the highest-ranking commanders, undergoes rigorous mental conditioning and training to fortify their minds against the Black Rage's onslaught. This arduous process is designed to instill mental resilience and reinforce their resolve to resist succumbing to the curse. Furthermore, the Sanguinary Accipiters have established a tradition of mentorship and brotherhood, wherein older and experienced battle-brothers guide and support younger members in their struggle against the Black Rage. These mentors, who have successfully resisted the curse for decades, serve as beacons of hope and exemplify that control is possible.

When a brother is overtaken by the Black Rage, he is not cast aside or considered a lost cause. Instead, he is carefully escorted to a designated chamber within Vykier known as the "Chamber of the Vengeful." Here, the afflicted battle-brother is surrounded by a select group of veteran Sanguinary Priests and Chaplains, who perform solemn rites and rituals. These skilled priests and chaplains act as spiritual guides, helping the fallen brother to channel his rage and fury into focused purpose. They invoke the memory of Sanguinius, urging the afflicted marine to fight in the Primarch's name and embrace his legacy as a noble and fierce warrior. Once the battle-brother has achieved some measure of control over the Black Rage, he is offered a unique and sacred role within the chapter's ranks. These warriors, now known as the "Vengeful Aegis," are tasked with leading the charge into the most dangerous and deadly of combat situations.

Empowered by the memories and spirit of Sanguinius, the Vengeful Aegis become living embodiments of the Blood Angels' legacy. They are a beacon of hope and inspiration for their fellow battle-brothers, their ferocity and valor unmatched on the battlefield. In the heat of battle, the Vengeful Aegis charge fearlessly into the heart of the enemy, their bloodlust channeled into focused and precise strikes. They become a force of nature, leaving destruction and carnage in their wake, as they embody the indomitable spirit of their Primarch.

Red Echo

The Sanguinary Accipiters possess a unique gene flaw known as "Red Echo." This mysterious condition manifests in some of their battle-brothers, causing them to experience vivid and haunting visions of past conflicts and heroic deeds. During intense combat, these visions become more pronounced, blurring the lines between the present and the battles fought by their predecessors. These "Red Echo" visions can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, they offer insights into past victories, enabling affected Astartes to anticipate their foes' tactics and act with preternatural skill. However, the constant influx of memories can also be disorienting, making it challenging for warriors to focus entirely on the current battle. To cope with this gene flaw, the Sanguinary Accipiters have developed unique training rituals and mental conditioning. They strive to harness the knowledge gained from the Red Echo to enhance their combat prowess without becoming overwhelmed by the flood of memories. Through discipline and resilience, they have turned this unusual gene flaw into a source of strength.

  • Grand Margrave Fane Dire - His tenure as Grand Margrave was marked by great triumphs and selfless sacrifices that shaped the fate of the chapter. Long before Grand Margrave Kragen Blayze assumed the mantle of leadership, it was Grand Margrave Fane Dire who held the prestigious title of Grand Margrave. When the call for aid reverberated throughout the halls of the Sanguinary Accipiters' fortress-monastery, it was Dire who responded with unwavering determination. Recognizing the gravity of Chapter Master Dante's plea, he wasted no time in mobilizing the entirety of the chapter's forces to defend Baal, the ancestral homeworld of the Blood Angels. Dire's rise to the position of Grand Margrave occurred 859 years prior, a testament to his valor and courageous actions on the battlefield. The weight of leadership was placed upon his shoulders when his predecessor fell in the midst of Abaddon's devastating assault on the Gothic Sector. It was through Dire's unwavering resolve and tactical acumen that the Sanguinary Accipiters weathered the storm and emerged victorious against the encroaching darkness. Under Dire's guidance, the chapter faced the relentless onslaught of the Tyranid Hive Fleets Behemoth, Kraken, and Leviathan during the cataclysmic Tyrannic Wars. The Sanguinary Accipiters stood as stalwart defenders, their red-hued battle armor a beacon of hope amidst the vast sea of chitinous horrors. Through dire trials and unimaginable odds, Dire led his warriors with unyielding determination, pushing back the alien menace and reclaiming worlds from the clutches of the Tyranids. But the chapter's greatest test came during Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade, when Cadia, a bastion of the Imperium, faced imminent annihilation. In a moment that would be etched into the annals of the Sanguinary Accipiters' history, Dire made the momentous decision to send their fleet to aid Cadia in its hour of need. However, fate dealt a cruel blow during the Tyranid siege of Baal. Dire, ever the embodiment of honor and duty, led the charge into the heart of the maelstrom, plunging headfirst into the crucible of harsh melee combat. Surrounded by the ravenous Tyranid horde, he fought valiantly, striking blow after blow in defense of the Imperium. But even the mightiest warriors can be overwhelmed, and Dire met his demise upon the blood-soaked soil of Baal. His noble sacrifice did not go unnoticed, for Dire's name is forever etched in the annals of the Sanguinary Accipiters. He now rests in eternal slumber within the hallowed Hall of Heroes in Vykier, his tomb a testament to his unwavering dedication and unwavering service to the Imperium. • Grand Margrave Argus Wolfe - Grand Margrave Argus Wolfe was a legendary figure in the history of the Sanguinary Accipiters, a leader whose name became etched in the annals of their chapter's lore. During his tenure in the early millennia of M40, he led the chapter on a daring campaign to claim a distant asteroid outpost, known as Praxus Outpost, as a strategic foothold for the Imperium in the turbulent frontier of space. Praxus Outpost, once a lifeless asteroid , had been tainted by the presence of Chaos cults and renegade warbands. Under the darkening skies of the asteroid , the Sanguinary Accipiters faced twisted horrors and daemonic abominations. Grand Margrave Wolfe saw the potential of Praxus Outpost as a vital location to secure Imperial interests and strike back at the forces of Chaos. He marshaled his warriors, instilling in them the indomitable spirit of the Sanguinary Accipiters. With relentless resolve, they set their course for the asteroid outpost, determined to reclaim it from the clutches of darkness. As the chapter descended upon the corrupted asteroid , they faced a nightmarish array of challenges. Daemons and heretics emerged from the shadows, eager to thwart the Imperial incursion. Yet, under Wolfe's leadership, the Sanguinary Accipiters fought with unwavering valor. They charged into the fray with their bolters roaring and blades flashing, carving a path through the enemy ranks. At the heart of the battle, Grand Margrave Wolfe stood as a beacon of strength and determination. With his mighty power sword in hand, he cut down any who dared to challenge the might of the Emperor. His voice resonated across the battlefield, inspiring his brothers to fight with unwavering loyalty to the Imperium. The struggle for Praxus Outpost was grueling, with every inch of ground fiercely contested. Yet, the Sanguinary Accipiters proved their mettle, their crimson armor standing resolute against the tide of Chaos. With each victory, they brought the light of the Emperor to the darkness of Praxus. In the end, the asteroid outpost was claimed in the name of the Imperium. It was discovered that there was a chamber within the outpost that contained a strange chest which contained a greatsword, Grand Margrave Argus Wolfe declared its name to be Vengeful a greatsword with a power emanating from it. This blade became a relic weapon used by the Grand Margrave only, which is passed to the next Grand Margrave after the passing of the former.

The crusade spanned years, and in their quest to reclaim lost planets from the clutches of darkness, the Sanguinary Accipiters faced unimaginable horrors and fought with unyielding valor. The path they tread was arduous, with each world serving as a grim battleground where life and death hung in the balance. The toll on the chapter was severe, and their numbers dwindled to a mere 200 stalwart warriors. Planet by planet, they fought tooth and nail, reclaiming worlds previously lost to the corruption of Chaos. The crusades were marked by countless acts of heroism and sacrifice as the Sanguinary Accipiters brought the light of the Emperor's wrath to the darkest corners of the sectors. It was during the crusade in the Duros Sector that Grand Margrave Strix faced an unimaginable choice that weighed heavily upon his soul. The world of Gilena had succumbed to the insidious touch of the Daemons of Nurgle, its population twisted and corrupted beyond redemption. After witnessing the horrors unleashed upon the innocent, Strix made the agonizing decision to call upon the dreaded order of Exterminatus. The chapter's Chaplains and Librarians consulted the sacred tomes of lore and weighed the dire consequences, ultimately concurring that the world of Gilena was beyond salvation. The order was given, and in a cataclysmic display of the Emperor's wrath, the planet was purged from existence, reducing it to ashes and annihilation. This fateful decision bore heavily upon Grand Margrave Strix's soul, for he understood the weight of sacrificing an entire world and its people for the greater good. Yet, he recognized that sometimes, in the face of insurmountable darkness, the only course of action was the most extreme and painful one. In one of the final battles of the chapter's crusades, Grand Margrave Strix met his demise in a blaze of glory. As daemons tore open a rift from the warp and surrounded his position, he stood defiant, his blade cutting through the twisted horrors that assailed him. His noble sacrifice allowed his brethren to regroup and secure a hard-fought victory, but it came at the cost of their revered leader's life. Today, Grand Margrave Strix rests in eternal slumber within the hallowed Hall of Heroes in Vykier, his legacy forever intertwined with the history of the Sanguinary Accipiters. His name is spoken with reverence and his deeds recounted with admiration, for he exemplified the unwavering devotion and selflessness that defines the chapter. As the Sanguinary Accipiters march onward, they carry Grand Margrave Strix's memory in their hearts, drawing strength from his sacrifice and the indomitable spirit that he embodied.

Chapter Relics

  • Eternal - A Mastodon, built before the Horus Heresy. Now in the possession on the Sanguinary Accipiters, the Mastodon is prized amongst the chapter. Eternal has seen hundreds of battles and has been maintained as best as possible. Due to the lack of technical knowledge on the Mastodon, it is now only employed in the most dire of situations.
  • Immortal - A Kratos Heavy Assault Tank, built before the Horus Heresy. Now in the possession on the Sanguinary Accipiters, the Kratos Heavy Assault Tank is prized amongst the chapter. Immortal has seen hundreds of battles and has been maintained as best as possible. Due to the lack of technical knowledge on the Kratos Heavy Assault Tank, it is now only employed in the most dire of situations.
  • Relentless - A Sicaran Battle Tank, used during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. Now in the possession of the Sanguinary Accipiters, the Sicaran Battle Tank is prized amongst the chapter. Relentless has seen hundreds of battles and has been maintained as best as possible. Due to the lack of technical knowledge on the Sicaran Battle Tank, it is now only employed in the most dire of situations.
  • Indomitable - A Fellblade, used during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. Now in the possession of the Sanguinary Accipiters, The Fellblade is prized amongst the chapter. Indomitable has seen hundreds of battles and has been maintained as best as possible. Due to the lack of technical knowledge of the Fellblade, it is now only employed in the most dire of situations.
  • The Foundry of Bloods - A part of the chapter's fortress-monastery which contains the machines that enable the research on blood collected in the Accretion Vault. When the machine is activated, blood collected in the Accretion Vault drains into machines in the Foundry of Blood, which then uses centrifugal force to separate the materials that make up the blood. The machines are of old and the knowledge of their abilities and maintenance is fading. This is a driving factor in the quest for the perfect blood to satiate the Red Thirst.
  • The Accretion Vault - Used to store collected blood in search of the perfect blood sample.
  • Vengeful - A greatsword, Vengeful was discovered by the Sanguinary Accipiters in the aftermath of the raid on the Praxus Outpost. The blade has been studied and shows signs of being made of angelsteel, though has a powerful essence to it that calls to its wielder. One of the most important relics in the Sanguinary Accipiters possession as it it said to come from Sanguinius himself before his death at the hands of Horus. It has been reported by later Grand Margraves that wield it, that it calls to them and that it gets stronger as time moves on. Some within the chapter believe that Vengeful is not a blade of angelsteel but instead a chaos infused artifact, which could have been the reason for the Alpha Legion's attack on the Praxus Outpost after the Sanguinary Accipiters reclaimed it from chaos worshipers.
  • Savagery - A spear, Savagery is the only other relic in the chapter's possession that is a weapon. Designed based off the Spear of Telesto, the relic weapon of the Blood Angels once wielded by the Primarch Sanguinius. Savagery is wielded by the Sanguinary Guard Margrave.
  • Blood Chalice - The final relic in the possession of the Sanguinary Accipiters is a Blood Chalice. These Blood Chalices were given to the Sanguinary Priesthood by Sanguinius himself. When drank from, any wounds or injuries a brother may have will be rapidly restored. However, every time the chalice is drunk from the brother risks losing himself to the Red Thirst.

Praetorian Guard
Praetorian Guard Armorial
The Sanguinary Accipiters' view of the Praetorian Guard is a mixture of both admiration and disdain. On one hand, the Accipiters respect the Praetorians' reputation as formidable warriors and skilled strategists. They acknowledge the prestigious lineage of the Ultramarines, from whom the Praetorians are descended, and recognize the chapter's long history of valor and service to the Imperium. In times of dire need, the Praetorian Guard's intervention has undoubtedly turned the tide of battles, earning them grudging respect from the Accipiters. However, this admiration is often overshadowed by a sense of annoyance and exasperation with the Praetorian Guard's perceived arrogance and elitism. The Accipiters find their counterparts' insistence on maintaining a superior air and acting as if they are above the concerns of other chapters to be irritating. The Praetorians' tendency to take charge of joint operations and dictate terms in battle can create friction with the Accipiters, who value their independence and prefer to lead their own forces. In the eyes of the Accipiters, the Praetorian Guard's behavior can sometimes be seen as self-serving and detached from the realities of frontline combat. This perceived sense of entitlement can strain their working relationship and lead to clashes in command decisions. Nonetheless, the Accipiters acknowledge that the Praetorians' strength in battle is undeniable, and they are willing to set aside their differences to fight alongside them when the Imperium is at stake.
House Varde
HouseVardeHeraldry
Lord D'Varde also perceives the Sanguinary Accipiters as warriors driven by a relentless bloodlust and fervor. He views their pursuit of the Red Thirst as a dangerous obsession, one that could potentially compromise their ability to make sound and rational decisions on the battlefield. This difference in ideology often creates tension between the two leaders, as Lord D'Varde advocates for measured and strategic approaches while the Sanguinary Accipiters lean towards ferocity and overwhelming force. Despite their occasional disagreements, Lord D'Varde recognizes the strength and value of the Sanguinary Accipiters as allies. He acknowledges their unwavering dedication to the defense of the sector and the Imperium as a whole. Their unmatched combat prowess and willingness to face any foe head-on are qualities he respects, even if he believes they need more temperance in their actions.

Whether it's battling the forces of Chaos, defending Imperial worlds from xenos threats, or facing the horrors of the Warp, the Sanguinary Accipiters and the Blood Angels stand shoulder to shoulder, united in purpose and resolve. The Sanguinary Accipiters hold the Blood Angels in high regard as noble and fierce warriors, exemplifying the qualities of their gene-father. They are inspired by the tales of the Blood Angels' heroism, especially during the darkest days of the Horus Heresy, where Sanguinius himself made the ultimate sacrifice to defend the Imperium.

The secretive and elusive nature of the Umbra Mortis cult, operating in small, hard-to-detect cells, only serves to fuel the Sanguinary Accipiters' resolve to root them out and eliminate their influence.
