Problem: while it is possible to have an homebrewed chapter allegedly possessing chimeric gene-seed, chapters need mod team permission. Additionally, their heritage should be written in a more secretive and alleged way as well more often being part of the 21 foundings. Such articles also require an higher quality by rules

The Rust Hammers are a grim and mechanically-minded Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, born of the Ultima Founding and forged from a rare and volatile chimeric gene-seed blend. Combining the stoic determination of the Imperial Fists, the cybernetic obsession of the Iron Hands, and the relentless siegecraft of the Iron Warriors. A force of unstoppable resilience, siege dominance, and calculated brutality. The Rust Hammers embrace war as a vast engine, one in which every bolt and bloodstain has a purpose. While taking no shame in their chimeric nature, they see the need to keep it from the Imperium at large. They cannot carry out the Emperor's vision if they are being hunted for heresy.

Chapter History[]

Notable Campaigns[]

Anvil Recovery (999.M41-009.M42)[]

Waking from Cryo-Pods within The Ferrum Throne, the Rust Hammers were thrust into an immediate void battle. Finding themselves in the debris field of an ongoing battle between Mechanicus and ork forces. Making contact with the Mechanicus forces, detiming the goal of the conflict was to recover a space hulk, the Rust Hammers mobilized. With cold efficiency, they picked off straggling ork forces while simultaneously boarding the space hulk. Slowly encircling the ork fleet, shifting the battle to a matter of attrition. Boarding ship after ship, the Rust Hammers slaughtered the xenos and received the space hulk. Making use of the ork scrap ships as resources to reforge the space hulk into the Anvil, a starfort that becomes the chapter's Fortress Monastery and chapter flagship. After the completion of the reforge, the Rust Hammers escorted the Mechanicus forces to the Red Tear, commanded by Lord Regent Dante of the Blood Angels.

The Tyrion (Tear-ee-an) Crusade (020.M42-Present)[]

Chapter Homeworld[]

Fortress-Monastery[]

Star Fortress Anvil: A drifting colossus reclaimed by Mechanicus Explorators and reforged into a void-fortress and forge-monastery, Anvil is the spiritual and logistical heart of the Rust Hammers. Covered in siege turrets, retractable drydocks, and arcane manufactoria, it is equal parts sanctum, forge, and weapon. It can support the simultaneous deployment of four companies and maintain extensive repair and augmentation facilities for cybernetic and armored elements.

Chapter Organisation[]

Officer Ranks[]

Siege Master: Chapter master of the Rust Hammers

Siege Lord: Captains' equivalent within the Rust Hammers

Siege Chief: Lieutenant equivalent within the Rust Hammer

Specialist Ranks[]

Arch Siege Cantors: The senior-most Siege Cantor, who oversees the chapter's selection and recruitment

Siege Cantors: Instead of chaplains, the Chapter uses Siege Cantors

Chief Apothecary: Master of the Apothicarium, overseer of the creation of new brothers of the chapter.

Apothecary: A battlefield medic and guardian of the chapter's geneseed. Recovering geneseed from fallen brothers and the giver of the Emperor's mercy.

Master of the Forge: Head of the chapter's forges, matianer of the fleet, and their greatest war machines.

Techmarine: Both brothers of the chapter and maintainers of its techmarines build, repair, and reinforce the chapter's arms and armor.

Chapter Ancient: Bearer of the chapter's Colors and, often being a senior veteran, acts an advisor to the Arch Siege Cantor

Chief Librarian: Head of the Librarius, keeper of the chapter's history.

Librarian: Masters of the warp, Librarians are used primarily in a utility role to mold the battlefield into the perfect land for siege.

Specialist Units & Formations[]

The Tectonic Mauls

Role: Demolition and Breach Infantry

Outfitted with seismic hammers and grav-disruption grenades, the Tectonic Mauls excel in collapsing fortifications and opening assault paths. Trained to identify structural weak points, they often tunnel under enemy lines or deploy in breaching pods shaped like mining drills.

The Cogwardens

Role: Battlefield Recovery and Mechanized Salvage

Specialized in securing war engines, tech-lore, and relic systems during or after a siege, Cogwardens are trained in combat engineering and machine interfacing. They are often deployed with servo-constructs and exo-frame lifters to recover or repurpose battlefield assets.

The Rust Seraphim

Role: Rapid Descent and Shock Interdiction Troops

With stabilized jump packs and reinforced impact armor, the Rust Seraphim are deployed to cripple artillery emplacements and supply lines. Their descent is coordinated to shatter hardened positions with overwhelming force, striking from above with brutal close-combat weapons and short-burst plasma cutters.

Line Ranks[]

Siege Sargent: Squad leader of the chapter

Battle-Brother: Rank and file of the chapter

Aspirant: Promoted from Neophyte once a recruit has started the trials and gene augmentation

Neophyte: Selected to join the chapter but yet to undergo the trials and gene-seed implantation

Order of Battle[]

Despite their nontraditional mindset, the Rust Hammers adhere to the 10 Company structure outlined in the Codex Astartes. Their interpretation, however, is optimized for endurance, siegecraft, and void warfare:

1st Company – The Iron Crown: Veterans clad in Cataphractii, Saturnine, or modified Gravis armor; masters of breach fighting and close-quarters siege combat.

2nd – 5th Companies – Battle Companies: Mechanized siege forces equipped with siege tanks, breacher squads, and heavy graviton support weapons.

6th – 7th Companies – Reserve Tactical Companies: Trained to plug breaches and reinforce any line, often assigned macro-voidship security.

8th Company – Assault Company: Unlike most Chapters, Rust Hammers prefer void-boarding specialists and heavy breacher jump-pack troops over traditional assault marines.

9th Company – Fire Support: Siege artillery, grav-cannons, macro-las turrets, and Centurion Devastator squads.

10th Company – The Ferrites: Scouts raised from underhive forge-worlds, equipped with recon rigs, digital augmetics, and stripped-down mechanized gear.

Each company is further divided into squads led by Siege-Sergeants, and supported by a high number of Techmarines, Combat Enginseers, and Dreadnoughts, many of whom are veterans of failed assaults or suicidal breaches.

Chapter Beliefs[]

View of the Emperor[]

To the Rust Hammers, the Emperor is not a god, but the Prime Engine of War — the first and greatest forge-lord of Humanity, the architect of siege, sacrifice, and survival. They do not worship Him as a divine being, but instead venerate His design, His strategic genius, and the monumental structure of the Imperium He tried to build. In their eyes, faith is inefficient; function is loyalty, and loyalty is proven in war.

They believe the Emperor’s grand vision was a fortress — the Imperium as a planetary citadel of survival, ringed with battlements of reason, sacrifice, and brutal necessity. The Ecclesiarchy's deification of the Emperor is seen as a corruption of His will, a spiritual rust that weakens the Imperium’s structural purpose.

Among their Chapter, reverence takes the form of ritualized maintenance, calculated destruction, and sacred rebuilding. Their litanies are written in binary and siege code, their prayers are impact patterns and force diagrams.

Traditions[]

The Siege Hymnal

Instead of chaplains, the Chapter uses Siege Cantors, data-canting warriors who chant binaric litanies during combat. These coded hymns reinforce unit cohesion and help machine spirits align with battle rhythms.

The Black Helm Vigil

Before a brother can ascend to the rank of lieutenant or captain, he must spend seven days aboard the Ferrum Throne without speaking, surrounded by active siege data, servitor memories, and ancient command logs. At the end, he must recite a tactical doctrine that justifies his ascension.

The Burning of the Failed

Recruits or brothers who succumb to cowardice, insubordination, or treachery are not executed by blade — they are incinerated in a forge-crypt, their ashes used to harden shell casings fired in future battles.

Recruitment[]

Siege-born Selection: Chaplains identify candidates surviving in collapsing under hives, siege zones, or war-wracked ruins — those who fight with grit, not glory.

Cog-Trials: Each aspirant is subjected to weeks of isolation with malfunctioning servitors, then judged on how well they adapted or reprogrammed them.

The Tempered Fist: aspirants must storm a mock fortress defended by veteran scouts using only salvaged gear and brute tactics.

Soul-Forge Branding: After implantation, recruits receive sacred bionic augmentations to remind them that flesh is temporary, but war is eternal.

Chapter Gene-Seed[]

The Chapter’s gene-seed, while stable, is marked by unique psychological and physiological effects:

Pride and Stoicism – Born of three gene lines that breathe Stoicism with every breath, the trait peasant in every cell. The Rust Hammers are cold and efficient; the vast majority of their humanity is burned out by gene-seed implementation. Just as the imperial Fists and Iron Warriors before them, the Rust Hammers are prideful to a fault; they often believe in their own strategic and tactical decisions despite repeated failures, choosing to throw bodies at unending sieges till victory is one.

Pain Dulling – Many brothers have low sensory feedback, requiring neural boosters to maintain battlefield awareness.

Siege Trance – Some veterans enter a hyper-focused state during prolonged engagements, showing reduced emotional affect and dangerous persistence.

Tactile Rejection  – Discomfort with human interaction; many prefer mechanical communion over interpersonal contact.

Implant Integration Overgrowth – The Chapter's Apothecaries have reported unusually high rates of flesh-to-metal compatibility, leading to excessive voluntary augmentation.

Deathwatch Service[]

Chapter Combat Doctrine[]

Slow, precise, and unyielding. The Rust Hammers employ meticulous siegecraft, both in defense and offense. War becomes a matter of unfeeling will, risk vs reward, simplicity, and efficiency. Always choosing the slow burn of a siege over costly strategies that disregard any concern of brothers lost or bolt rounds spent. Every bolt round wasted is a failure to achieve the Emperor's designs. Making extensive use of heavy armor and siege craft, the Rust Hammers grind down their enemies before shattering their fortresses with a decisive strike.
