The Noble Angels is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter created during the mysterious 13th 'Dark' Founding. They are notable for not only being one of the few Space Marine Chapters that possess chimeric gene-seed, but also one of the very rare ones which possess gene-seed of three different Space Marine Legions. Parts of their gene-seed originates from the Dark Angels, the main part from the Blood Angels and a third from an unknown source.
Members of this Chapter are recruited from different noble families from around the galaxy, preferentially from warrior castes. Noble Angels see themselves as Scholar-Knights and Shepard-Marshals with the aura of Warrior Angels. They protect the common people and serve as inspiring beacons on the battlefield and as beacons of the faith in non-combat, seeking always new cultural accomplishments.
History
Being founded in the 13th Founding means that that there is little information of the early history of the Noble Angels, even their poems and own records don`t tell much about them then, although bureaucratic notices indicate low losses in several engagements possible hinting to an unimpressive number of battles with no major significance.
Their first major engagement was the Burning of Batille V, the invasion of a fortress world in the Segmentum Pacificus by the Pockmarked Angels a Nurgle-corrupted Blood Angels warband. All three Orders deployed by the Noble Angels fought of the main thrust of the heretic forces, however were secondary forces of the Pockmarked Angels able to reach their optional targets and burn them down with a "fire virus" who transformed the victims into burning mass of flesh. The then Grandmaster reasoned that his Chapter had a joint guilt for not enough inspiring the locals to fight hard enough, and begun with reforms to change his Chapters demeanour.
Another notable event was the Xenocide of Bastus Nine, where the Chapter attacked a Xenos species of a massive body height however being relatively weak. Furthermore suffered the Xenos from a civil war between a handful of strong nation-states.
Notable Campaigns
- The First Centuries (Unknown Date.M36): The first years after their founding don`t have recorded much and even the Chapters records aren`t filled with reports of battles.
- Burning of Batille V (002-003.M37): The first engagements of the Noble Angels where they fought with three Orders against the the Pockmarked Angels a Nurgle-corrupted Blood Angels warband. Bastille V was a fortress world known for its production of gases for the industry. All 300 Marines fought for seven months against the Traitor Marines and were able beat them back. But the reserves of the traitors were able to breakthrough the lines from one of the PDF Regiments and use a chaos virus to burn down a series of settlements.
- Devastation of Emposes IV (128.M39): The Noble Angels attack the Planet of Emposes IV which was the base of a warband belonging to the Emperors Children. A Sorcerrer of the warband had started a ritual to change the Planet into a Daemon World. It is still argued if the the plan of the Sorcerrer could had even worked, but nonetheless intervened the Noble Angels, using a not so noble method: the Master of the Fleet personal ordered to crash an asteroid onto the base, which may have been Astartes proof but showed a critical weakness against 21 km width asteroids.
- Uprising on Tetus VIII (unknown.M40): The 4th and 5th Order took part with the Dark Angels in the destruction of rebelling Imperial Guard Regiments on the world of Tetus VIII. During the fight against the rebels made their Squads contact with Renegade Space Marines, resulting in a fire-fight until they were also destroyed. A volatile detail was missed by the accompanying Dark Angels: those renegades were part of the Fallen, a mistake risking to blow up the hidden past of the Dark Angels, however the Noble Angels didn't realise against whom they had fought. Maybe even had not cared.
- Xenocide of Bastus Nine (201.M41): A xenocide against a large molusk Xenos species with weak muscles. Some of the Xenos nation-states were able to discover how to built warp drives and had sent out an expeditionary vessel. When the Chapter arrived was the civilisation in an open civil war. They were easy picking for the Astartes.
- Intervention against the Beasts (900s.M41): All Orders of the Noble Angels took part in mopping up of Tyranid Hive Fleet remains on thw Worlds of Saturan I, Saturan II and on Pechs End. Notable were the hybrid-like Tyranid warriors, which the Chapter mistook for a time as hybridization between Tyranids and local Fauna.
Homeworld
Bran Beta is a Agri-World with its singular landmass filled with a giant fruitful prairie disrupted by forests, lakes, rivers, marshes and dry mountains. People live in small but well-connected communities or on the rolling villages transporting the food to the small spaceports. All bioms are stalked by majestic creatures worthy to the knights from ancient Terra or from the Planets redeveloping knights.
Fortress-Monastry
The Golden Dome has a wall surrounding the main building in a circle supported by mighty bunker-towers. Underground tunnels connect them with the main building and the underground facilities. The Fortress-Monastery includes a library with books from around the galaxy in a bunker and further facilities housing priests for missionary work.

Gene-Seed
The Gene-Seed of the Noble Angels is a mix of the one from the Dark Angels, Blood Angels and [REDACTED] and is relatively stable, although their Gene Flaw the Rageful Death constitutes a clear problem for the live of the Astartes and the ones near the Astartes suffering from this.
Deficiencies: The Rageful Death
The Rageful Death describes the major gene defect of the Noble Angels, a result of mixing different gene-seed with each other and maybe even manipulating it. Magos Biologis trusted by the Chapter think that the genes responsible for the Black Rage. But unlike the Blood Angels can the Noble Angels not use them on the battlefield. Astartes suffering from the Rageful Death fall victim to an extreme rage just to fall death minutes later. The cause of deaths is always the liquefying of the organs.
Chapter Beliefs
The Noble Angels have three aspects which an Astartes has to fulfil next to be a warrior:
- Being a Scholar-Knight: Each Astartes has to spent time studying the history of the Imperium and the many worlds its includes. Knowledge should cover cultural themes, history and spiritual matters.
- Being a Shepard-Marshal: To be a beacon of faith and discipline for the common people of the Imperium. This aspect was developed after the Burning of Bastile V.
- Being a Warrior Angel: Warrior Angel means that it is expected from each Noble Angel that he enters the battlefield and fight on it how it is awaited from a celestial being. Perfect in combat, sanguine and to fight with honour.
When not in combat, are the members of this Chapter engaged in training, perfecting their abilities, or engaging in cultural activities and court culture typical from the planets from where the individual Space Marines came from. Such actions can be hunting, writing literature or engaging honour duells. The Noble Angels believe strict in a dogma demanding from them to live and act as nobles to honour their families, their Primarchs and the Emperor of Mankind.
Combat Doctrine
All five Orders operate closely together in campaigns, and each Order can count on the support of Dreadnoughts for anti-vehicle and anti-bunker targets. When engaging in combat against large creatures commit the Noble Angels a coordinated manoeuvre called "Butchers Hand" describing the combined use of heavy bolters and Power Spears to overwhelm the monster through sheer power or to get a chance for a decisive hit.
When engaging strongholds relay the Noble Angels on fast actions supported by Dreadnoughts or Centurion squads to open breaches and to destroy the enemy guns protecting the fortress. A similar strategy is used when defending strongholds. Heavy infantry serve as mobile close-ranged artillery suppressing enemy movements while melee or ranged combat falls to the regular Marines.
Deathwatch Service
Noble Angels rarely join the Deathwatch, instead are more often called in for a specific mission than for a career in the Deathwatch. Such mission includes the eliminating Tyranid creatures or other Xenos creatures.
Notable Noble Angels
- Maximilian de Chorè: de Chorè is the actual Grandmaster of the Noble Angels and the owner of a unique Vanguard Power Armour modified with bolter gauntlets and an improved live-support system. He was recruited on Gallum with 11 other noble sons from which 7 would survive the transformation into an Astartes, a suprisingly high number.
- Charles d'Artane: d' Artane is the Chapter Champion and the Chapter owns giant hulking 42cm about the average height of his Battle-Brothers and uses the Spear of Lazarus as his main weapon.
- Artuk: A son of a Feudal World noble and driver of one of the tanks of the Chapter during the Uprising on Tetus VIII and was crucial in mowing down heretic Astartes.
