"To hire one brother will cost you that nice relic blade. To hire one squad, you will have to give us those two Thunderfire Cannons. A full detachment will cost you at least four Predators and a Thunderhawk. You will not be able to afford the entire Chapter. However, there are one thing we are intresting in..."
— Max von Cotzhausen, Lord Dominator of the Nameless Stalkers, to the Rogue Trader Matteus Vendall.

The Nameless Stalkers are a non-Codex compliant Space Marine Successor Chapter created from an unstated lineage. It is believed that the Chapter was originated from an altered stock ("Chimeric") composed of gene-seed from both the Raven Guard and the Iron Hands, during the 12th Founding in the mid-35th Millennium. However, this hasn't been definitively proven, and due to the Chapter's nomadic nature, has been extraordinarily difficult for the Magos Biologis to obtain adequate gene-seed samples for study.

The few samples they have been provided by the Chapter down the millennia are questionable in origin, to say the least, although they have shown signs of being stable and relatively pure. However, some Adeptus Mechanicus Genetors believe these provided samples were somehow obtained from illicit sources. The truth of the matter has yet to be resolved.

Chapter History

Aliyah Shaw

Pict-file of the traitor Inquisitor, Aliyah Shaw, tainted by Chaos.

The Nameless Stalkers was founded during the tumultuous times of the Nova Terra Interregnum. During this period, the rebellious Ur-Council of the world of Nova Terra dismissed the authority of the High Lords of Terra and claimed rule over the Imperium's worlds in the Segmentum Pacificus. After 900 standard years this conflict resulted in massive religious civil wars against the Ur-Council who were denounced as Heretics and ultimately overthrown and the High Lords were the reinstated as rulers once more.

Just like other Space Marine Chapter that are founded to protect an area or to counter a threat, the Nameless Stalkers was created as a Crusading Chapter. But due to a betrayal by Inquisitor Aliyah Shaw, this resulted in an open conflict between the Inquisition and the Nameless Stalkers, which resulted in the near-destruction of the Chapter and they were declared as Renegade Astartes. They left their holy mission and instead became an freelancing force that now travel the outer borders of the Imperium and hire out Battle-Brothers and assets to different organizations, both military and civilian.

By payment mainly with equipment and resources and mass recruitment of new Neophytes, the Chapter has rebuilt itself in only a few centuries and is now a fully-capable and battle-ready Chapter once more.

Notable Campaigns

  • The Traitor (785.M35) - The Chapter was orded by Inquisitor Aliyah Shaw to the Hive City Endura IV to destroy a small Cult that worshipped the Necrons. The Chapter send two squads to carry out the mission, but they were ambushed. Inquisitor Shaw had let them into a trap and thousands of cultist assaulted and killed the Battle-Brothers, while she secured several ancient Necron relics for her self. Once the Nameless Stalkers discovered the truth they hunted down the Inquisitor which answered with the full power of the Inquisition, nearly wiping out and destroyed the entire Chapter. After a bloody battle Inquisitor Shaw was killed. After her dead it came cleared that she was tainted by the mark of Chaos. Her skull now adorns the armor of the Lord Dominator, the Chapter Master, of the Nameless Stalkers.

Detachments

Unlike other Space Marine Chapters the Nameless Stalkers don't use ordinary Companies to organize the Chapter. Instead they utilize independent detachments that function as small Chapters with their own veterans, scouts and support. The detachments can also split up in even smaller groups or task forces dependent on the mission at hand. Each detachment take on contracts of their own choosing and will only come together as a full Chapter when the Lord Dominator, the Chapter Master, orders it.

There are seven detachments that function as the main Battle Forces, two reserve detachments and one escort detachment that protects the Fortress-Monastery and function as the Lord Dominators own Strike Force.

Chapter Combat Doctrine

Battle Namless Stalkers

Nameless Stalker Strike Team in battle against the Tyranids.

The Nameless Stalkers make heavy use of small Strike Teams that operates behind enemy lines. They are very often armed with heavy support weapons, such as Lascannons and Missile Launchers.

The brothers are trained as specialists in ambush, sabotage, infiltration, reconnaissance, interrogation and information gathering. It isn't uncommon that the Chapter have contracts that involves taking prisoners for interrogation. For such a mission the Hospitalists often use diffrent kinds of sedatives customized for different types of xenos and humans, and various types of serums for making the prisoners telling the truth.

The most common contracts that the Chapter receive is to carry out ambush and sabotage behind enemy lines.

Chapter Beliefs

The Chapter is still loyal to the Emperor, despite their history with the Inquisition, and they never take contracts that target the Imperium. But the Inquisition is still regard the Chapter as renegades and do believe that Inquisitor Shawn have turned they upon the Imperium and that they have embraced the Ruinous Powers.

The Chapter however don't worship the Emperor a only true god and protector of all Mankind. According to the beliefs of the Chapter the Emperor is not a god, only a entity amongst many others in the galaxy, the brothers do revere the power of the Emperor and the battle he is doing against the hordes of Chaos. But if Chapter would have to choose between saving themselves or saving a innocent planet, a allied force or a holy relic, they always choose to save themselves, if not paid.

The dysfunctional Melanchromic Organ makes all the brothers affected by albinism and the damaged Neuroglottis causes them to lose their sense of smell.

Their Gene-Seed also makes the brothers uncooperative and brusque with a perceives that bionic substitutes making them stronger in battle.

Primarch's Curse: Shadow and Steel

This curse from the bloodlines of both Corvus Corax and Ferrus Manus usually occurs in three stages:

  • Level 1 - The Battle-Brother is becoming ruthlessness and prone to sudden aggression with periods of being quiet and brooding. The sudden bursts of aggression can sometimes result in the brother injuring himself to the extent that, for example, hands, legs and arms may be replaced with bionic substitutes.
  • Level 2 - To become even stronger in combat, the Battle-Brother start to actively upgrade himself with bionic substitutes. He also believe that only he knows the best tactic and approach to achieve victory, preferring to work alone or in small strike teams.
  • Level 3 - The Battle-Brother despises other than his fellow brothers of the Chapter. Refusing to take orders from anyone outside the Chapter and could sometimes even attack a commanding officer of another military organizations.
