The Kraken Sons are a specialised force, much like the Wolfspear, they were created to contain the servants of the Ruinous Powers, in the case of this Ultima Founding Primaris chapter, they were created to try and annihilate the notorious Chaos Lord Huron Blackheart and his marauder empire. Unlike the Wolfspear however, the Kraken Sons were practically gleeful at this posting.
Ever since they've made their home on the world of Miðgarðsormr the starlanes about Badab have been alight with the fires of combat; the Kraken Sons and the Imperial Navy taskforce assigned to aid them have relentlessly chased the Red Corsairs. Though they have not managed to completely obliterate Huron and his empire the Kraken Sons have managed to curb the Tyrant of Badab's raids into their former sector.
Chapter History
With the opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum the Red Corsairs have become even bolder and vicious, their destructive looting leaving the area about the Maelstrom a desolate wasteland, thus the Kraken Sons were created to curb the pirate lord and, hopefully even shatter the renegade traitors and scatter the survivors of Badab to the winds.
Chapter Homeworld
Placed on the ocean world of Miðgarðsormr; a planet of ice and storms, the Kraken Sons watch in inky ocean of stars above, for the the only pseudo land-masses of the planet are a few massive polar islands in an ocean infested with titanic sea monsters such as the eponymous Krakens from whom they draw their name. How humanity found itself on such a desolate and grim world is unknown however, they did. Based entirely on ancient vessels of a providence unknown even to those who they are home, the savage marauders of the planet. Over the millennia, these relic vessels have been destroyed by ocean wars, time or the elements themselves. Since then, harvesting the wood of the trees that lurk under the freezing waters has become one of the most important (and astoundingly dangerous, given the breadth of monsters lurking in its depths) jobs on the world, crafting newer, if inferior vessels to survive on.
Chapter Recruitment
As an ocean planet, word on Miðgarðsormr travels fast. When word reaches the ever alert stewards of the Ægir, the priests of the Kraken Sons sends forth the Nøkken, a sinister gathering of reivers are sent to search for these warriors, stirring up conflict, pointing rival marauders in the direction, testing their worth. If found worthy, they are simply taken in the night, the only sign of the Kraken Sons' passing a roll of Kraken Hide, with the Chapter's mark engraved upon it.

Notable Campaigns
- Ensnaring of the Corpsemaster (M42) - During their infancy the Kraken Sons nearly crippled the Red Corsairs, during one of their raids into the nebula surrounding the Maelstrom the Kraken Sons managed to capture and almost kill Garreon 'the Corpsemaster' the vile chief apothecary of the Red Corsairs. Though Huron's servants managed to reclaim their degenerate commander he was left with a permanent reminder of the Kraken Son's savagery, with their leader; Miðvitnir carving off the monster's left arm and a large portion of his torso with the newly crafted Ice Tooth.
Chapter Organisation
- "Leadership comes through brotherhood. Brotherhood from deeds. Deeds from might. Might from brotherhood. We are sons of Russ, and the tides of the star ocean may never overtake us."

- Storm Raiders - The standard rank and file intercessors of the Chapter. Storm Raiders are as hot-blooded and battle-happy as the day they were taken by their Chapter. With new star-sailing brethren, each Storm Raider is more than willing to prove their greatness to the Raiders of Miðgarðsormr and carve their legend into the stars themselves.

Chapter Gene-Seed
Like all successors of Leman Russ (now magnitudes more numerous than they were millenia before) the Kraken Sons believe themselves blessed with the most potent of gene-seeds for as with all Astartes, even for Primaris, the Canis Helix is a brutal taskmaster, allowing no middle-ground. Either you succeed and ascend into the ranks of the Allfather's mightiest defenders or you fail and degenerate into a drooling beast that must be put down. Though not a literal mutation by any means, it is of some note that the Kraken Sons are one of the more jovial and friendly Space Marine chapters, often treating their Astartes contemporaries and (to the surprise of some of the more aloof chapters) even non-augmented humans such as Imperial Guardsmen as though they are already blood brothers and; as joked by the Great Wolf of the Dusk Howlers: Einar Nighthowler, they are 'Blighted by the Curse of Boasts' much to the frustration of their more serious kin.
Chapter Beliefs
To the amusement (and horror) of some of Leman Russ' descendants, the Kraken Sons are, demour-wise something like an entire chapter of Blood Claws; loud, rowdy and eternally spoiling to prove their mettle. As suchm Kraken Sons are a mighty, if difficult to wrangle force. A pack of Kraken Sons has been compared to a pack of Thunderwolf Cavalry, each marine believes itself the alpha of the group and is desperate to prove it, pushing each one of the reavers above and beyond their commands which, whilst aggravating to those higher up trying to control the sons of Miðgarðsormr is something their battle-brothers adore about their fraternity.
Deathwatch Service
Those Astartes who call Miðgarðsormr their home are rather uninterested by the long vigil of the Deathwatch given their defensive posting against the Red Corsairs. Whilst they do uphold the oath the brothers they send often seen rather bored. Until of course they encounter the pirates of Commorragh, though the Kraken Sons aren't as vehement in their hatred of the Aeldari, the moment they encounter them the Kraken Sons seconded to the Deathwatch seem to, somewhat disturbingly view the slaughter of Drukhari as something similar to stress relief. However, rather than being sulky and brooding whilst in the Deathwatch, the Kraken Sons are gregarious and boastful, much to the potential irritation of their squad-mates.
Notable Chapter Space Marines
- Jötnar Miðvitnir - Current Jötnar (chapter master) of the Kraken Sons, after their first chapter master; Frost Lord Jötnar was killed during an ambush Miðvitnir was slated to succeed him and, after proving himself by retrieving Ice Tooth and returning with the severed heads of more than a dozen Red Corsair lords Miðvitnir became the Jötnar of the Kraken Sons. Much like his legendary predecessor Miðvitnir is a hearty and vigorous leader, like a jarl of the old Terran raiders; a mighty tale of adventure in service to the God-Emperor. Whilst on first impression the current Jötnar of the Kraken Sons seems as a loutish braggart (and in many ways is) he in fact a cunning commander, under the posturing and boasting lies the lineage of Leman Russ and the Vlka Fenryka lending a cold tacticality to the sons of Miðgarðsormr.
- Frost Lord Jötnar - The first ever Frost Lord (the archaic name for a Kraken Sons chapter master) despite his relatively short reign as commander of the Kraken Sons he practically entered into mythology such was his skill, as he and his company returned from a successful raid against the Red Corsairs (which was later revealed to be a ploy by Huron Blackheart) despite being nearly overwhelmed by a huge flotilla of Red Corsairs and other mercenary ships many of the exhausted Kraken Sons managed to escape, avoiding a horrendous crippling of the chapter that would leave them inept and unable to serve their function. This was, primarily due to the sacrifice of lord Jötnar and a select few warriors that the Kraken Sons avoided their destruction. As he and his chosen warriors stalled the encroaching hordes the Frost Lord slaughtered innumerable pirates, both astartes and alien before his death destroying many marauder empires, shattering their leadership as he and his warriors died in one-by-one in a glorious blaze. Ever since that dramatic end the Kraken Sons have named their chapter masters Jötnar, sacrificing their first name to take up the mantle of their greatest hero.

Chapter Relics
- Ice Tooth - A massive two-handed frost blade, Ice Tooth is crafted both from a kraken's teeth and the purified power armour of nine Red Corsair lords, carved with runes that glow with a sinister, lightning-like light. Wielded by the current leader of the chapter Ice Tooth, like its creation is drenched in the blood of the Blackheart's servants, its immense axe-head like a looming spectre of death.
- Storm's Grip
Chapter Fleet
The Kraken Sons, due to the nature of their creation being to counter the devastating raids of the Red Corsairs have an incredibly extensive fleet, using older more powerful classes of ship repurposed to traverse the starways near the Maelstrom, their raider-like mentality ironically repurposed to try to contain Huron Blackheart.
- Fossegrimen (Battle Barge)
- Draugr's Helm (Battle Barge)
Chapter Appearance
Chapter Colours
Kraken Sons Chapter iconography.
The raiders of Miðgarðsormr have a two-tone colour scheme; the torso, backpack, pauldron trim and the lower half of their helmets are a gunmetal grey and the legs, arms top half of the helmet and the inset of the pauldrons are a snow white. Often many members of the Kraken Sons decorate their equipment with more primitive trophies: scaly flesh of the immense krakens that lurk in the stormy oceans of their homeworld, curved fangs from the other sinister beasts of Miðgarðsormr are the most common examples.
Chapter Badge
The Kraken Sons Chapter icon is a stylised rendition of an eponymous kraken rising from the seas.
Chapter Relations
As would be expected from a Chapter of bombastic and coarse marauders, relations between the Kraken Sons and countless others are...fractious to say the least, with many, such as Black Templars and their line's arch-nemeses the Thousand Sons dismissing them as brutish braggarts (a not entirely unfounded believe admittedly) , others, like their progenitors; have, after the initial distrust faced by virtually all Primaris, have
