The Knights of the Frost were created in the 10th Founding in the mid 35th Millennium in the H’Toh system on the edge of the Stygius Sector not far from the Mordian system. Whilst a successor of the White Scars, the Knights of the Frost have spent more time fighting in campaigns close to the Space Wolves.

Chapter History[]

Having spent Centuries cut off during "the Long Dark Winter" The Knights had forged their own way with both custom weaponry, armour and approach to battle. The Numbers had also dwindled far below that it should have when at full complement. With the Introduction of Primaris brethren, the Chapter has reorganised and is now well equipped to go out and impact future campaigns in the sector and beyond.

Notable Campaigns[]

The Long Dark Winter[]

For an extended period of time the Knights of the Frost had little to no contact with the other forces of the Empire. Regular raids by Orks and the Chaos legions of Tzeentch meant that the Knights had to depart from the normal ways of the Codex with the development of their own approaches and weapons. The H’Toh system was reconnected to the Imperium as part of Roboute Guilliman’s Indomitus Crusade, this led to much needed new materials, armour and weaponry being introduced to the Knights of the Frost. At this time the Primaris Marines were also added to the ranks of the Knights of the Frost. One notable developments during the Long Dark was a replacement for the traditional flamer fuel and plasma of coolant and Bose Einstein condensate.

The Chaos Siege of the Ice Rim???.M42[]

A mass siege of the worlds in and around the H'Toh system. Led to an uneasy alliance with the Eldar to face the oncoming Tzeentch hordes. The Coven of the Nine and the Scourged engaged in many battles in the years straight after the 13th Black Crusade.

Chapter Homeworld[]

The Knights of the Frost have been founded in the H’Toh system within the Segmentum Obscurus on the edge of the Stygius Sector not far from the Mordian system. H’Toh Prime, a Feral world mostly covered in Tundra and Ice, desolate and barren apart from forests, the ruins of old trade outposts and the hive of below ground cities. The vast majority of lifeforms cluster around the narrow equatorial area which offers the most habitable climate.

The hardened and splintered human tribes upon H'Toh Prime are suspected to be the descendants of survivors from the planet's early attempt of colonization prior to the arrival of the Knights of the Frost.

Recruitment[]

Once per season each tribe of H'Toh Prime selects a young champion via their own tournaments. These champions are then sent on a month long pilgrimage to the polar regions and tasked to collect the pelt of the most impressive beast they encounter. Though rare, sometimes these travelers will meet up and form groups to increase their chances of survival. Those who return successfully within the time limit are then past on to Ís-haf Útsýni for further testing by the chapters

Fortress-Monastery[]

Set into the side of the cliffs overlooking the frozen sea scape below is the intimidating bastion of the Knights of the frost, Ís-haf Útsýni.

Order of Battle[]

The following represents the order of battle of the Ice Dragons Chapter following the introduction of their Primaris Space Marine brethren in 999.M41. Of note is that this introduction boosted their numbers substantially and The Knights organisation is far more in line with the doctrines of the Codex Astartes.

Chapter Beliefs[]

One of the legacies of being a successor of the White Scars is the belief venerating the Emperor as the Ultimate Uniter of Mankind, but not as a God and so they do not hold the Imperial Creed as their faith and have little regard for the Ecclesiarchy.

It is the Knights of the Frost's belief that it is their duty to destroy the enemies of the Emperor in preparation for the day when he will rise from the Golden Throne to begin a new Great Crusade to unify the galaxy.

Chapter Gene-Seed[]

The passed down gene-seed of the White Scars has been heavily re-engineered to optimise it for use by the Knights of the Frost, with the aim to improve their durability and toughness to make them suitable for the harsh H'Toh Primeclimate. However, the genome seems to have inherited the wild savagery and thirst for war that the White scars show. Combined with the tribal history of the recruits to the Knights' ranks, the Knights of the Frost have a higher respect for close combat.

While attempting to modify the gene-seed Adeptus Mechanicus generators were less adept at genetic sciences than the Emperor ending in some unexpected idiosyncrasies being introduced into the gene-seed.

One of the introduced mutations has had cosmetic effects on those receiving implants. The Melanchromic Organ (Which controls the amount of melanin in an Astartes' skin tone) does not function properly, therefore their skin and hair cannot adjust properly to high levels of solar radiation leaving them of fair complexion with pale blue eyes. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause burns on especially planets with higher solar levels and many marines have scars from such damage. To counter these effects the helmets of the Knight's armour has been fitted with superior filters in the lenses.

The modifications made to the secondary heart mean that the Knight's are able to perform most optimally in low temperature environments, suffering no ill affects from even the harshest of Ice-world environments. Another affect of this is that the marines can lower their body temperature and heart-rate to such an extent that they can enter an almost hibernation like state. Combined with modifications to the Catalepsean Node this allows the Knight's to spend extended periods out in the harsh conditions in wait for the enemy, perfect for ambushes on unexpecting enemies setting foot on the snowy battlegrounds.

The modifications made have also caused certain genetically-engineered organs normally implanted in a Space Marine to no longer function properly. The Mucranoid organ, which normally allows a Space Marine to survive extremes of temperature, has improved in its ability to protect from extreme cold but is no longer adept at providing protection from extreme-high temperatures.

Deathwatch Service[]

Other than during the period of the Long Dark Winter the Knights of the Frost have regularly provided forces to the Deathwatch. Many of the current veterans have served in Kill-teams against both the Orks and the monstrous Tyranids.

Notable Space Marines[]

  • Glacius Kló - The current Chapter Master of the Knights of the Frost. Glacius has a long and illustrious history within the Knights. Glacius started his path as the youngest champion to ever return from the Polar pilgrimage.

Chapter Fleet[]

Chapter Relics[]

  • Polaris Maw - Worn by the mightiest warriors that the Knights of the Frost have produced, currently Glacius Klo's weapon of choice.
  • ísbrjótur - "The Ice-Breaker" the most powerful Thunder Hammer in possession of the veterans of the Knights of the Frost.

Chapter Special-Issue Wargear[]

Chillers[]

During their time cut off from the wider Imperium the Knights of the Frost reworked their flamer equipment to work using compressed liquid gas rather than Promethium.

Bose Einstein Condensate (BEC) Weapons[]

Just as the Knights of the Frost retrofitted their flamers, they similarly found a way to convert their Plasma weaponry to use super chilled Bose Einstein Condensate rather than super-heated plasma.

Chapter Appearance[]

Chapter Colours[]

The main colours of the Knights of the Frost are light grey with steel blue details. The Imperialis symbol on the chest is Citadel Grey in colour. Company colours are used on shoulder guard trim and knee pads.

Chapter Honours[]

  • Chieftain Trophy Rack - Mirroring its use by the White Scars, it is trophy rack containing the skulls of worthy kills, worn on the backpack as a display of their triumphs and prowess in battle. Like the more common back banners used by Astartes commanders, a trophy rack identifies a Battle-Brother as a leader and Captain of the Chapter.
  • Seax Knifr - Carried either in addition to, or in lieu of, a Combat Knife, depending on the individual's preferences the Seax Knifr is a Knights of the Frost ritual weapon, reputed to have its origins among the mountain tribes of H'Toh. The particular shape and balance of these weapons allows them to be wielded swiftly and deftly, moving from defence to attack at lightning speed.
  • Honour Gift - These are the spoils of a glorious hunt or battle that are given to trusted comrades to make stronger the ties that unite them, mirroring the tribal customs of the H'Tothians. These gifts take many forms, from pelts taken from great beasts of H'Toh, to shards of shattered armour taken from enemy vehicles or combatants, to tusks, fangs and claws from monstrous xenos foes.

Chapter Badge[]

The Knights of the Frost badge is a tri-pointed Icicle with additional six pointed crystal forms of snowflakes. The Icicles are a perfect inverted representation of H'Toh Prime's tallest mountain range and the snowflakes allude to the meteorological features of the lands.

Relations[]

Allies[]

Grey Knights[]

Given the many battles that the Knights of the frost have fought against the enemies of Chaos, many times have they been joined by the Grey Knights who specialise in the vanquishing of Daemon foes

Space Wolves[]

Due to their proximity to the Eye of Terror many times have members of the Knights of the Frost shared the battlefield with Wolves of Fenris.

Ice Dragons[]

Little record can be found regarding this alliance or the specifics of campaigns they have shared, but many accounts have come out of various Ice and Tundra planets across the galaxy of these two chapters taking to the battlefield together.

Local Aeldari factions[]

Having been cut off from contact with other Imperium forces during the Long Dark, the Knights of the Frost found allies in unlikely places. The Knights forged an uneasy alliance with the Aeldari in the region when facing the armies of Tzeentch, following the old proverb "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". One particular faction proved themselves particularly well in battle and have stood side by side with the Knights on further occasions.

Enemies[]

Followers of Tzeentch[]

The Coven of Nine[]

The Sorcerers led a vast warhost that included daemons, Chaos Space Marines, and hordes of Chaos Cultists across the Stygius Sector and beyond. The Knights of the Frost engaged in a long campaign defending the Ice Rim worlds during the siege that ensued.

The Scourged[]

The Scourged are not as previously believed by Imperial scholars a warband of the Thousand Sons Traitor Legion. They were actually a loyalist chapter known as the Seekers of Truth who served the Inquisition. Cursed by Tzeentch to hear a constant stream of the lies of man. The Knights of the Frost have fought multiple skirmishes with the Scourged during the Long Dark Winter.
