The Knights of Vigilance is a highly enigmatic Space Marine Chapter, with scant information available about them, and what little is known remains contradictory. The only certainty appears to be their close collaboration with the Inquisition. Rumours even suggest that this Chapter operates as an unofficial arm of the Inquisition itself. This partnership manifests in their sacred duty of securing, containing, and safeguarding humanity from Chaos artefacts, Xenos technology, and relics from the Dark Age of Technology, referred to as 'relics of interest' or 'ROI'. The Inquisition can then research or destroy these recovered items. These three tasks are of paramount importance to the Knights of Vigilance, and they will unhesitatingly engage Imperial forces that obstruct or impede their mission. This uncompromising stance has earned them a dubious reputation among fellow Space Marines, though this matters little to the Chapter. For they willingly embrace the darkness, sacrificing themselves so that humanity and the Imperium may bask in the light.

History

The origins and historical records of the Knights of Vigilance remain shrouded in mystery. There is a distinct lack of verifiable information regarding their gene-seed lineage or the precise date of their founding. The earliest somewhat reliable accounts trace back to the early to mid-M31 period. However, it is worth noting that there exists a long-standing hypothesis suggesting that the Knights of Vigilance have intentionally disseminated misinformation concerning their historical background.

Notable Campaigns

  • War against the Flesh that Hates (██████): The War against the Flesh that Hates was a Knights of Vigilance campaign on the planet (censored) against a beastly Nurgle plague. Their infected victims were terrible even for Nurgel's zombie plagues and could even infect the environment. The darkest reports spoke of a village of infected people and victims of uninfected people. The planet (censored) was handed over to the Exterminatus after the complete cleansing.
  • Demon Blood (██████): The Demon Blood campaign was a (censored) campaign by the Knights of Vigilance on the planet (censored) VIII against (censored). In the battles for (censored) VIII, especially around (censored) and the strategically important Manufactorium ██████, in which (censored) MTF were stationed when it was secured. On (censored) the campaign's main objective was achieved and all enemies were purged.
  • The end of the Promehtos Factory:
  • Death of the Mask (██████): The campaign Known as Death of the Mask, was fought against a chaos artefact that appeared to be an evil porcelain white mask capable of mentally torturing, manipulating, controlling, and even driving the people in its environment to suicide. The Mask controlled the planet (censored) and ruled in malevolence until the Knights of Vigilance ended their reign.
  • The Heart of Death (██████): The campaign known as the Heart of Death took place around ██████ the factory world ██████ Omega. Inquisitor requested the deployment of the Knights of Vigilance ████████ because ████████ █████ █████ attacks by the Elder were recorded. During the fighting, ██████ ██████ he was killed. Only an alliance with the Ordo ██████ and the systemic destruction of 45.6421% of ██████ Omega industrial facilities were able to achieve this

Chapter Home World

As was to be expected, at best only misinformation and contradictions are known about the Knights of Vigilance's homeworld. Some sources speak of a prairie world populated with giant prairie dogs. Other sources report a volcanic world littered with ancient ruins. Other rumours report a gas giant world that a space station almost surrounds. Some rumours even tell of a densely populated hive world whose inhabitants know nothing about the Knights of Vigilance. In a handful of reports, an ocean world is mentioned, at the bottom of which is a huge underwater base. The ludicrous rumours whisper that the Knights of Vigilance have housed their Fortress-Monastery in a sub-dimension of the Warp. Others think that they are a fleet-based chapter.

Fortress-Monastery

They refer to the Knights of Vigilance's Fortress Monastery as Side-1. In order to be protected from possible enemy reconnaissance, Side-1 has the cover story as ████████████ which is operated by the Departmentom ████████████ and for the purpose ████████████ and is therefore guarded by 10 cruisers as standard.

The dimensions of Site-1 are ███ km by ███ km. On the east side of Site-1 are the logistics facilities for the fleet. On the west side of Side-1 are the quarters of the chapter servants. On the south side are the mighty factories. On the north side are the tanks garages. The centre houses training facilities, warehouses, workshops, ███████, and ███████. The mighty tower directly in the middle of Side-1 houses the Reclusium, the Apothecarion, the Librarius, the Armory, and most of the Knights of Vigilance's anti-aircraft and anti-ship guns. Deep beneath Side-1 are the containment cells for the ROIs, Command Center, and █████████.

Outposts

Next to their Fortress Monastery, the Knights of Vigilance have several other small outposts. Which serve as operational bases, containment sites, surveillance stations, and recruiting centres. Overall, the Knights of Vigilance have two types of outposts

  • Sites: In addition to a tactical reason such as monitoring a sector, they have also been built to temporarily or permanently contain ROIs. They are equipped with complex learning stories and extensive safety precautions.
  • Areas: They were built specifically to contain ROIs that cannot be removed.

Chapter Organization

The Knights of Vigilance chapter organisation differs completely from any other Space Marine chapter. In contrast, the other Space Marine chapters have a clear organisational and ranking structure. Which any outsider can easily understand. The managerial and rank structure of the Knights of Vigilance is inexplicable and confusing for most outsiders and usually leads to their confusion. Which is only magnified by the secretive nature of the brothers of the Knights of Vigilance.

Rank and Secrecy Levels

Each member of the chapter has a rank level of 0-5 and an additional rank level of A-E. The numbers represent the security clearance and the letters represent the importance of the rank holder and how operationally important they are to the chapter.

  • O: All chapter servants of the chapter have level 0 and know nothing about the objects that their master's store and protect.
  • 1: Level 1 is the standard level of the battle brothers.
  • 2: Level 2 is for sergeants and veterans.
  • 3: Level 3 is held by lieutenants.
  • 4: Level 4 is held by the chapter captains.
  • 5: Level 5 is held by the members of the O5 Command.
  • A: A-class members are essential to the chapter and do not have access to ROI objects.
  • B: B-class employees are important to the chapter and only have limited access to ROI objects.
  • C: C-class members have unrestricted access to ROI properties.
  • D: The D class is reserved for convicts and heretics. These pitiful people serve as expendable test subjects for ROI objects.
  • E: The E class is for all those under an ROI object's influence, infection, or control.

Unique Command Structures

  • 05 Command: The 05 Command is the chapter command of the Knights of Vigilance and takes on the role of chapter master. It consists of 13 members, but no one can say whether there are 13 or the 05 Command exists. The identities of its members are kept secret from everyone. The path to becoming a 05 member is as unknown as the identity of its members and only rumors are circulating about it. How are the current members also the founding members of the back then or were the 05 members, not Astartes but Inquisitors.
  • Philosophical Council: At first glance, the Philosophical Council is a strange institution for a Space Marine chapter. Their job is to watch over morals and ethics. The uninitiated would think the chapter's chaplain could handle these two things. However, their thoughts would completely misunderstand the purpose of the Philosophical Council. Because the Philosophical Council monitors the handling and studies of their battle brothers with the ROIs. Your task is to intervene in possible corruption by an ROI or an inappropriate method when studying an ROI. To prevent potential corruption of the entire chapter or the fragile line to heresy is not crossed.
  • Administrator: The Administrator is an important but mysterious rank. His task or role are contradictory and quite a few believe that he does not exist or is even the true chapter master.

Specialist Ranks & Formations

  • MTF Alpha-1 Red Right Hand: MTF Alpha-1 is the personal force of the 05 Command. They are considered the most loyal fighters in the chapter and are entrusted with the most secret missions.
  • MTF Omega 1 Laws Left Hand: MTF Omega 1 is the personal military force of the Philosophical Council. Your task is to eliminate brothers, allies, or other individuals addicted to chaos and endanger the chapter's purity and mission.
  • MTF Epsilon-11 Nine-Tailed Fox: MTF Epsilon-11 specialises in combating breaches of ROIs.
  • MTF Omega-0 Ará Orún: MTF Omega-0 consists of the dreadnoughts. When not in battle, they are connected to the Fortress-Monastery's cogitator systems to protect them from Chaos corruption.
  • MTF Tau-5 Samsara: MTF Tau-5 consists of battle brothers who are massively equipped with valuable and arcane bionics and other highly advanced augmentative enhancements that improve their abilities often. But this will make them close to being aware of having a Servitor.
  • MTF Sigma-66 Sixteen Ton: MTF Sigma-66 consists of captured members of enemy groups, but whose skills could be useful to the Knights of Vigilance at some point. For this purpose, new members of Sigma-66 are subjected to brainwashing, transposition of explosive devices and mind-breaking torture and have to be kept in cold sleep when not on duty.
  • MTF Alpha-9 Last Hope:
  • MTF Omega-7 Pandora's Box:
  • MTF Resh-1: MTF Resh-1 reports directly to the administrator.

Chapter Gene-Seed

The Gene-Seed of the Knights of Vigilance is subject to the strictest secrecy and anyone who is so stupid or so crazy in this direction will only quickly find a prompt and everlasting end. The Knights of Vigilance and the Inquisition punish all these attempts harshly and consistently.

But in the deepest archives of the Inquisition, there are a few details. So their gene seed is exceptionally pure. But also exceptional resistance to psionic influences and attacks. The Marines have a more efficient (censored) than other Space Marines. Your (censored) is improved by 30% and (censored) is improved by (censored). Her bone marrow shows traces of (censored). Your body accepts bionics and other mechanical prostheses very well. Their bodies particularly well absorb special (censored) bionics.

Chapter Beliefs

The Knights of Vigilance believe the galaxy is full of relics and anomalies. Who are a constant danger to humanity. A few of them can benefit humanity, or even really help. But for the brothers of the Knights of Vigilance known, these ROIs are extremely rare and most are just plain vicious and dangerous.

That's why you must search for, find, and contain these relics. So that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands, or spread destruction and death on its own. To prevent these two catastrophic scenarios and the resulting death and misery or even the end of humanity. They must not show tiredness, hesitation, fear, remorse, mercy, or even doubt. If you fail in your mission, humanity will fail and failure is not an option.

To maintain your mission, the veil of ignorance must remain over any kind of ROIs, or any other kind of chaotic, techheretic, or xeno technology or artifacts. But all too often there are eyewitnesses or informants whose existence the Holy Inquisition cannot tolerate and does not shy away from getting rid of these individuals. However, the Knights of Vigilance are not as ruthless as the Gray Knights regarding eliminating unwanted witnesses. So they prefer erasing memories, cover stories, banishment to the Penal World █████████ which is directly subordinate to them, or forced recruitment into the penal legions subordinate to them: 11th █████████ Legion, █████████ Utan Penal Legion, recruitment as D-Class servants or as new recruits for MTF Sigma-66, █████████, █████████ orin the infamous █████████.

Chapter Culture

The Chapter Culture of the Knights of Vigilance is also unknown to most outsiders, like many other things about the Knights of Vigilance. But unseen from the eyes of all outsiders, the rank and secrecy levels have immense significance for the battle brothers of the Knights of Vigilance. Because the security clearances and the rank level are everything, the two-level systems determine your knowledge and access to the ROIs. Since the Knights of Vigilance always strive for knowledge, each battle brother tries to distinguish themselves so that they can be promoted and know even more about the ROIs and history of their chapter.

Another behaviour of the battle brothers of the Knights of Vigilance that is incomprehensible to most people is the fact that they don't know their brothers' real names and don't want to know them. They justify this by stating that each battle brother gives up his true name and gets a cover name and a code name, which appear in all chapter records. The fact that a battle brother's true name is revealed is seen as his failure.

Combat Doctrine

The Combat Doctrine of the Knights of Vigilance is based on the use of highly specialized formations. Which are tailored and equipped exactly to their tasks. Most of the time, several MTFs deployed at the same time, whose strengths, skills, equipment, troop numbers and experiences complement each other and fit the situation.

Unlike most other Space Marine chapters, the Knights of Vigilance utilize reinforcement troops from the Imperial Guard, PDFs, local militias, police units, or other forces as often as possible. These support troops you select are beyond doubt loyal, undeniably highly trained, and appropriate to the current situation on the battlefield or an ROI's containment operation. As soon as they have fulfilled their purpose, they are either stripped of their memories with the help of psionics or if they have particularly distinguished themselves, they are recruited into the service of the Knights of Vigilance as a permanent chapter's own support force.

In rare cases, certain ROIs are also used for battles, investigations, or containment operations by other ROIs. However, these missions are very rare, as only a few ROIs are suitable for these types of missions and the Knights of Vigilance battle brothers have an aversion to the use of ROIs. But in the case of using an ROI, several deployment guidelines must be observed such as the █████ █████ of the ROI, its ██████ ███████ █████, the Selection of the brother who uses the ROI, furthermore the ██████, ██████ and █████ the specific ROI must be taken into account.

Chapter Unique Psychic Powers

  • Grip of Amnestics: The Grip of Amnestics is a very commonly used ability that allows the thaumaturge of the Knights of Vigilance to manipulate or erase the memories of one or more individuals.
  • Standing Time: This ability allows users to stop time within a limited radius.
  • The Lie of Conviction: Those affected by this ability believe all lies and ignore all doubts about it for the rest of their lives.
  • Memetic Branding: This ability allows users to implicate certain information, instructions, or manipulations psionically on objects or even in Cogitator systems.
  • Kill Meme: This ability allows the user to place a psionic mark on a specific location or object. Anyone who enters the place or even looks at the object dies immediately.
  • Unbreakable Walls: With this ability, the user can make any material 20 times more stable and strong than it was before.
  • Psionic Barrage: With this ability, the user fires 1000 psionic energy waves at the enemy with the strength of one heavy bolter cartridge.

Recruitment

The Knights of Vigilance's recruiting methods are strictly confidential and there are likely several recruiting deaths. However, it is known for certain that the various MTFs are always on the lookout for potential recruits. It is also known that the planets Hyh Brazil, Tertius Bortlant, Esderperg, (censored), (censored), (censored), Station (censored), (censored) VIII, and (censored).

But no matter where their recruits come from, the Knights of Vigilance homeworld recruits are subjected to hundreds of harsh and complicated tests. This includes fights between the recruits, survival marches through the wasteland of (censored), a hunt for (censored) for 100 copies of (censored), the hand-made construction of (censored), the survival of (censored) days in the polar wasteland of (censored), psionic torture, and many other tests that are hard and extensive even by Space Marine standards. And that's why the recruits' chance of survival is the lowest of all Space Marine chapters.
