The Kirin Sol are a loyalist Codex-compliant Successor Chapter rooted from the lineage of the brave and noble Salamanders chapter. This chapter was created during the end of 23rd 'Sentinel' Founding by the High Lords of Terra's commendation due to the successful recapture of the civilized world of Zephyrush Ultima and its surrounding moons from Drukhari slavery. This Space Marine Chapter is solely recruited from planet Zephyrush Ultima due to its chapter's strict adherence to the heritage of Kirin Code, a Code that forbids any foreigner other than Zephyrusians (citizens of Zephyrush) to be recruited as Astartes of the Kirin Sol.
Like their gene-father, the Kirin Sols are masters of close to medium-range combat, favoring fire and melta weaponry as well as master-crafted magma weapons to slay both the aliens and heretics alike. But unlike the Salamanders' extensive use of promethium, the Kirin Sols Astartes favored using their own promethium called Zephyrium, a teal-colored combustible liquid fuel that is used for the chapter's flamer and thermal weaponry. The Zephyrium flamer is able to roast the enemy armor from wraithbone to fio'tak alike without destroying the surrounding plant organisms as Zephyrium itself is produced from the roots of the Zephyrush Ultima Ironbirk tree native only to planet Zephyrush Ultima.
Chapter History
At the beginning of 38th Millennium, a warpstorm enclouded Zephyrush Ultima and within a few hours a vast Drukhari force, led by Archon Kerzyl of the Flayed Head Kabal, descended upon Zephyrush Ultima, slaughtering and enslave the planet for 120 Terran days. The local Zephyrusians remember that day as the 'Day of Grief' for at least 10 million Zephyrusians old and young, men and women were slain, enslaved, or used as a Drukhari agonizing experiment. Many local Zephyrosians retreated to the forests and since then begun to form militias and resort to Guerilla Warfare, with only autoguns, missile launchers, and Zephyrium flamers they wage a war of survival against the Drukhari raids while desperately sending a distress signal to the Imperium.
At the 121st day, a massive hail of drop pods followed by tactical orbital bombardment decent upon Zephyrush Ultima, and the Salamanders 5th Company, led by Librarian Vol'drak the Firebound, begin their hunt against the Drukhari. The Salamanders united together with the local Zephyrusians and fought back against the invading xenos who invaded their planet and slaughtered their people. On the 30th day, the battle was over, with the destructions of the Flayed Head Kabal enclave named the Tower of Agony although Archon Kerzyl successfully retreated back to the warp gates which were later destroyed by the last Incubi on Zephyrush Ultima.
A Kirin Sol Firstborn Astartes upon the Chapter's inception.
The Salamanders continue scouring around Zephyrush Ultima's two moons, Vandhar and Secubal, for a few weeks before returning to Zephyrush Ultima where a new fresh Planetary Defence Forces (PDF) and tech guilds arrived to restore Zephyrushian cities and forests back to their former glory. Due to such success followed by the Zephyrusians' insane bravery and master of guerilla jungle warfarem the High Lords of Terra honor Librarian Vol'drak with allowing a successor chapter to be raised from Zephyrush Ultima. Thus, the Kirin Sol was born, with Librarian Vol'drak serving as the First Sol Commander or Chapter Master of the Kirin Sol - the first and only foreigners who were inducted into the chapter.
Like their gene-father, the Kirin Sol shared the ideals of the Promethian Cult but mixed with their own planetary laws and variation of the Codex Astartes, creating the 'Kirin Code', the ideals and foundation of the chapter's recruitment, tactics, warfare, and life doctrines. The Kirin Sol, like their gene-father, also show a strong desire to protect and aid all Imperial citizens and driven by their code, innately understanding that their duty is to preserve the life of the Emperor's subject against any external threat. The Kirin Sol will commence a kill-team or even stop an orbital bombardment to save a single life of an Imperial citizen stranded behind enemy lines. This trait can also be seen from their frequent use of Rhinos, Impulsors, and Overlord Gunships as a means to evacuate Imperial civilians to safety.
By the end of 41st Millenium, the numbers of Kirin Sol Astartes had diminished from 900 strong to 114 warriors due to frequent aid across Ultima Segmentum followed by a Tyranid infestation of Hive Fleet Aswang, a splinter of Hive Fleet Behemoth, where the Tyranid Prime known as Brain Wolf manage to possess high consciousness and extended synapse ability, enabling the creature to control even larger gargants such as Carnifexes or Harridans alike. But with the total destruction of Hive Fleet Aswang and the death of the Brain Wolf, the Cicatrix Maledictum emerged from the Segmentum Obscurus, dividing the Imperium and plunging Zephyrush Ultima into eternal darkness due to maelstorms and hail that occurred for almost 100 Terran days.
With only a company left, Chapter Master Varkosh Firehand led the remaining Kirin Sol in a desperate defense of his homeworld from the new emerging threat of forces of the vile Death Guard Legion that arrived from an emerging Plague Fleet. As the chapter master and his battle-brothers made their last stand, Imperium reinforcements arrived carrying with them legions of Primaris Space Marines under the leadership of the newly awakened Primarch Roboute Guilliman. The Kirin Sol finally triumphed over their heretic opponent and bowed to the primarch as he went down to Zephyrush Ultima and gave the chapter master 900 Primaris Astartes created from the Kirin Sol's gene-seed delivered to Terra centuries ago, replenishing the chapter's needs of Battle Brothers once more.
Now fueled, forged, and burning with the flames of holy determination, the Kirin Sol stands ready to defend and purge every threat that ravages the Ultima Segmentum from heretics encroached from the Cicatrix Maledictum and raiding xenos, both barbaric or shrouded in false nobilities.
Chapter Homeworld
Zephyrush Ultima is a civilized world filled with clean air, eco-friendly walled cityscapes and lush teal leaf jungles located between Herzavar Sector and Maribon Sector. This forest Civilized World population is 16 billion.
Over 42% of the planet surfaces are covered with water be it seas, rivers, and lakes alike. The rest of the surfaces are covered with lush forests and mega cities that aren't like any other hive cities across the Imperium. Zephyrush Ultima are consist of 15 megacities spread across the continent and almost all of them are considered clean with minimum pollution thanks to its eco-friendly power sources and triple sanitize sewer system. The planet's time is near similar to a Terran with a day in planet Zephyrush Ultima lasted 26 hours and 1 year in Zephyrush Ultima is equivalent to 12 years in Terra. The planet possesses 4 seasons with temperature can be as high as 28-degree celcius and as low as -12-degree Celsius.
Vertical farming, fjord fishing, eco husbandry, and eco industries are the main source of the planetary income. The denizens of Zephyrush Ultima harvest Zephyrium, a teal-colored combustible liquid fuel that serve as the primary source of power as well as Ironbirk fruit, a jack of all trades fruit that taste similar to ancient Terran potatos but with earthy smell and used for both primary food sources and animal fodders. The southern part of the planet is filled with fjords, there fisheries and hatcheries are thriving and many of its products are supplied for the denizens of Zephyrush Ultima. Some exotic goods such as blue caviars, grox fatty loin, and Fordgin fruits were exported to nearby system planets from Ultramar to New Merica.
Zephyrium itself serve as a source for the Astartes chapter's flamer weaponry where the liquid itself could cook any sentient organisms and melt metals except for living plants and trees, enabling the chapter to destroy the enemy forces from mechanical Daemon Engines and Necron Tomb Spyders to Tyranid bioforms and Eldar Wraithbones with quiet minimum environmental damage. Zephyrium was prized by the Imperium Rogue Traders across the Imperium and many cases of a drum of Zephyrium to be smuggled off-world by local smugglers. It was said that a drum of Zephyrium is equivalent to a large slab of ceramite.
Recruitment Process
Once every year, the 9th Captain of the Kirin Sol will travel across the planet visiting villages, towns, and mega cities recruiting adolescent youths to join the chapter. Usually orphans, sons from low- to middle-class families, sons from nobilities, or even street vermin alike ranging from 10- to 13-year-olds. The chapter valued those with honor, duty driven, self-sacrifice senses, and fighting prowess to be recruited as an Astartes.
Once the recruits are collected, they will all be transferred to the Fortress Monastery of the Kirin's Den to begin their training. The training itself includes operating flame-based weapons, close and ranged combat, crafting their own weapons based on the chapter's quality standard, and mastering guerilla warfare. The survivability of such gruesome training is relatively low but, in some cases, more than 15 recruits passed the test before being tasked to harvest a horn or fang of native predator of Zephyrush Ultima, a Kirin.
This giant horse like creature is said to be super agile and able to spit, charge and leap fire with ease. Should the recruits able to slain or at least wound the Kirin and took its horn and fang, then he will be ascended as an Astartes, receiving black carapace and a combat knife as the gift from the chapter. Failure to do so usually resulted in quick execution given by the Kirin Sol Judiciar or Chaplain.
