The Iron Myrmidons are a mostly Codex-compliant Imperial Fists Successor Chapter from the 4th Founding, after the disastrous War of the Beast, with a focus on Zone Mortalis combat & siege warfare. They are a proud and tenacious chapter, rarely devolving into savage or overly brutal conduct but instead are an unrelenting tide of adamantium & ceramite sending precise volleys of bolter fire into their foes while vehicles and heavy specialists move ahead.

Homeworld & Recruitment[]

While technically a fleet-based chapter as their Fortress-Monastery is a starfort, their main source of recruiting is from the Knight world that their starfort orbits, Ensiferum. From there they source the tougher acolytes that have the physical fortitude to survive the implantation processes. Other sources include the Forge world that controls Ensiferum, Diod-Signus, as well as the smaller knight world of Hanov Prime, all of these worls being in the Ranian Sector. The chapter's extremely high genetic accuracy due to the help of the Mechanicus as well as their already stable gene-seed leads to one of the smallest implantation failure rates in the entire Adeptus Astartes. Their recruitment bastions are all imposing pyramids, a building shape meant to stand out from the normal architecture of these worlds.

Notable Campaigns[]

  • Idolater Crusades (550-648.M32): Massive crusades fought by the newly founded Chapter in its entirety along with the Angels of the Blade, Praetorians of Blood, Palatine Vindicators, Void Paladins, and the Hussars Sanguine who commanded the loyalist forces against a dozen Chaos Space Marine Warbands in the Eastern Fringe, including the Battleforged. Even with the Forces of Chaos using daemons and other warpcraft they were killed or pushed out of the sector after 98 years of fighting.
  • Doth Rebellion (366-404.M41): Savage war fought by the entirety of the Hussars Sanguine, Iron Myrmidons, & Solar Falcons chapters plus smaller elements from a half dozen others, the venerable Titans of the Legio Ensiferum, and two Contingents of the Mauryan Guard against traitor marine warbands like the Plague Ravens & Battleforged who were aided by the Dark Mechanicum and cultists drawn from the populace of the mining world of Doth near the Pale Vortex. The planet's crust is made up almost entirely of crystallized rock with fields of a moss like lichen near the poles that serves as the main oxygen producer of the planet. Doth is located next to the Pale Vortex but much closer to it than Walcha is, subjecting it to constant assault from the denizens of the rift as well as xenos raiders that prey upon the support elements of any fleet they find even to this day as chaos & Drukhari forces still use it as an easy staging point for further raids or simply to gather slaves. Because of the danger of working on the planet the workforce is often made up of penal labor. During this war around 382.M41 in the crystal trenches that scarred the battlefield the Count Primus was lost in combat during a fierce artillery barrage. The only survivors of the shell shocked forces hit by the barrage was the remains of a Solar Falcons command squad and a few other Falcons from destroyed squads, all of who reported never seeing any sign of him after he was hit with a shell along with his entire honor guard and several Solar Falcons that they were assisting. Though some of the Falcons were reported as having their gene-seed extracted by the apothecary in the command squad, who was killed soon afterwards in the withdrawal back to allied trenches but the gene-seed he carried was saved. After his death Alcar was chosen to lead the chapter as the new Count Primus, and has been so ever since.
  • Walcha Uprising (999.M41-079.M42): While most of the Hussars Sanguine is busy fighting across several warzones like Baal an uprising instigated by the Churraba, a warp born xenos species that feeds on blood and is capable of shape shifting and mind control, upon Walcha escalates into a full scale war against the loyalist defenders of the planet. the PDF is shattered by many of its senior commanders either being part of the uprising or killed in the initial ambushes. A reprieve comes when a majority of the Iron Myrmidons answered the distress call sent out in the beginning of the uprising. After the Iron Myrmidons arrived and began to quell the uprising, the rebels were reinforced by a massed legion of the flying Xenos that blot out the sun as the descended upon the hives to feed. In this time several of the other planets under their protection go dark, at least one being completely overrun with Churraba and their slaves until even the present time. It is not until a large strike force of Void Paladins answering ancient blood oaths of alliance and a few days later the arrival of the survivors of Baal with the new Primaris recruits for both of the loyalist chapters, that they able to launch any real counter attack and take back Walcha or the other planets. It is after this that the Iron Myrmidon's are able to fully take in their new brothers officially.
  • Ranian Crusade (130.M42-Present): This large scale military campaign is currently being waged by the Hussars Sanguine to rid the sector of several chaos & xenos incursions that have claimed a dozen systems across the sector. They are fighting alongside the Angels of the Blade, Iron Myrmidons, Palatine Vindicators, their only loyalist successor and newly reformed with all primaris the Praetorians of Blood, the Tenebris Shades, & the renegade Void Paladins as well as over 100,000 of their Rorarii; against the former successors of the Hussars the Carmine Reavers & their allies the Children of Iron within the Katon system, Churraba remnants including millions of enthralled servants from the uprising on Walcha that have regrouped on Tralvan, & Nawls on Doth that have begun raids sector wide.

Chapter Organization[]

As a Codex-compliant Chapter their organization is as would be expected, 10 companies of about 100 marines each with four reserve, four battleline, a scout, and a veteran company. When the Primaris were given to the chapter they were quickly integrated within all 10 companies and the creation of new Primaris from is currently about half of the new neophytes.

Chapter Beliefs[]

Cybernetics[]

Cybernetics are a large part of the Chapter due to their close relationship with the Adeptus Mechanicus, including all of their neophytes having the translator implants to understand and speak Binaric. The chapter serfs are on par with tech priests in terms of cybernetic use. They worship the Omnissiah just not to the degree of their Mechanicus allies, for there is no greater aspect of the Emperor than His true form. Iron Myrmidons are taught the basics of techcraft including the forging of weapons as part of being a neophyte, even basic battle brothers have above average arms and armour compared to other chapters. They have several times more techmarines than normal chapters to handle the increased tech load, enough to have one in each squad for the entire chapter with several left over. Often it is senior techmarines that become the chapter-master though this is not always the case.

the Konspath[]

While not a chapter that focuses on close combat tactics over immense firepower, every battle brother of the Iron Myrmidons as well as the majority of their chapter serfs carry a ceremonial short sword called a Konspath at all times, taking the place of a combat knife and used as such.

Chapter Gene-Seed[]

Though born from Imperial Fists gene-stock they are more or less pulled from several of Dorn's lineage due to the massed casualties taken during the War of the Beast and the mixing of the chapters just to recreate the Imperial Fists as it was. Regardless of this fact they see them all as sons of Rogal Dorn and thus no different when applied to their aspirants.

Gene-Flaws[]

Combat Doctrine[]

They are masters of zone Mortalis combat with a focus on siege warfare, using large amounts of armoured vehicles to spearhead into enemy lines or using artillery to slowly creep up onto an enemy position or even simply taking heavy casualties and pushing in regardless if needed to complete the mission. Ranged tactics are a main focus of the chapter, bolter volleys and vehicle firepower cutting down enemies and cracking hives. As such they have a massive amount of armoured vehicles as well as extra Sternguard squads in the veteran company as opposed to Vanguard marines. Cybernetics are common within the chapter and because of this they are often more durable than the average Astartes which aids in their usual combat missions.

With their connection to the Mechanicus as well as their preference for zone Mortalis combat they have a large amount of Centurion suits, Terminators, and Dreadnoughts within the chapter to go with their massed armoured vehicles. Company veterans clad in Terminator armour are used by each battle company and the entire veteran company could deploy with Terminators if they needed, but dedicated Sternguard & Vanguard veterans stick with normal power armour to retain their mobility. They have a few dozen Dreadnoughts available to the chapter as damage and death permits, the Mechanicus often making sure most of those are fighting ready and only wait upon injured marines.

Notable Members[]

  • Chapter-Master Adrastos - Leader of the chapter, known for his compassion for normal humans as much as his skill as a general & warrior. He was the former Captain of the veteran company prior to ascending to his current rank.
  • Captain Geranion - Captain of the 2nd Company and considered one of the chapter's best melee fighters. Uses a master crafted Power Fist and CombiFlamer that were passed down to him from the former Captain, Arion.
  • Chief Librarian Xanathos - Leader of the chapter's Librarius and one of the oldest embers of the chapter, the average age most Myrmidons reach before dying is around 500 years though Xanathos is over 800 years old as of M42.
  • Dreadnought Ancient Arion - The former Captain of the 2nd Company that tried to duel a Grey Wolf Thane during the Battle of Hive Eldamar, instead took a bolt to the hip and hacked at without warning. He did end up killing the frenzied Thane but was forced to live out his days in the cold shell of a dreadnought, though his rank afforded him access to a Contemptor pattern that had recently been made ready to use. Usually has a battle standard mounted to his back that he uses as a rallying point for other Iron Myrmidons in the second company. To mimic his favored weapons during life he uses a Power Fist and a Twin linked Heavy Bolter with a built in Power Blade under the barrels for his main weapons, a Heavy Flamer is inside the power fist for emergency horde clearing. There is also many of the secondary add ons like a searchlight, frag & smoke launchers, and extra armour plating as befitting his senior rank when he was interred within. His old weapons, a master crafted Power Fist and Combi Flamer, were passed down to his apprentice and current second company captain.

Chapter Fleet[]

Ramilies Class Starfortress

A Ramilies class Starfort, the Determinatio Machinis, is the Fortress-Monastary of the Iron Myrmidons

They have a large and very powerful fleet as befitting a fleet based chapter heavily allied with the Adeptus Mechanicus. Besides their Starfort they have 8 Battle Barges, 21 Strike Cruisers & Naval Cruisers, & 30 Escort squadrons. Naval vessels like Grand Cruisers and Battle Cruisers are used to give the fleet a better edge in ship to ship combat. Besides the chapter serfs, the armsmen and other more basic crew are pulled from their recruiting worlds and do not answer to any actual Imperial navy commander outside of the fleet.

  • Determinatio Machinis (Ramilies class Starfort) - The Fortress-Monastery for the chapter, upgraded and fully maintained by the Mechanicus living on the forge world of Diod-signus. When docked it stays above Ensiferum usually though will dock at Diod-Signus when it needs repairs, whenever at least half the chapter deploys to a single warzone this starfort will go with them as the defensive core of their fleet. The chapter was given this starfort by the forge world in return for defending the interests of the forge world and the Mechanicus as a whole across the galaxy.
  • The Iron Resolution (Battle Barge) - The largest conventional warship in the Chapter's fleet. Acts as the main flagship as the Determinatio Machinis is a full on starfort. It is an old ship dating to the time of the Horus Heresy where it was part of the Imperial fists legion fleet, it was even present during the Siege of Terra and reaped a heavy toll on the heretic forces. Due to the damage it received guarding Terra it was left neglected in a salvage yard for many centuries until it was restored for the Fourth Founding.
  • The Dory (Battle Barge) - Warship used as a transport for multi company strike forces and has been at the forefront of most of the chapter's conflicts since their founding.
  • The Hoplon (Overlord-class Battlecruiser) - Companion vessel to the Dory, it provides the barge with naval weaponry as part of its flotilla and thus much better range in ship to ship combat.
  • The Xiphos (Strike Cruiser) - Primary transport for when a smaller strike force is needed away from the bulk of the chapter and its void assets.
  • The Kopis (Vanguard Cruiser) - Heavy escort vessel alongside the chapter's flagship.

Chapter Relics[]

Besides relic vehicles, voidships, armour, and weapons from their own history they have some items given to them as part of a friendly trade they did with the Hussars Sanguine. The Iron Myrmidons gave them 50 artificer grade power weapons easily on par with any of the chapter's Glaive Encarmines, in return they got over a dozen master crafted Bolters of unmatched beauty and a pristine librarian variant Dreadnought frame to house an injured librarian who helped protect a Hussar officer during a protracted siege.

Palantine Vindicator Armorial

Armorial of the Palatine Vindicators

Palatine Vindicators[]

While the Iron Myrmidons are not known for an aristocratic culture, they are still held as allies by this noble chapter though this alliance would be shattered if their dealings with the renegade Void Paladins were found out.

Praetorians of Blood[]

When news of the destruction of the Praetorians of Blood reached the Iron Myrmidons they lamented for days, having their recruiting worlds in the same sector and fought side by side in the Idolater Crusades and untold times after. While they were relative allies for several millennia, the Carmine Reavers fell to chaos and have become a bitter enemy. When they wiped out the Praetorians of Blood the Iron Myrmidons declared them one of their main targets to annihilate for revenge.

Grey Wolves Armorial

Armorial of the Grey Wolves

Grey Wolves[]

This chapter of Primaris marines from the lineage of the Space Wolves is known to be a hyper violent chapter and had secretly been using a now known to be chaos corrupted combat drug called Asmannde, leading to a fight between the chapters that ended with the Wolves being censured. While the Grey Wolves have since dealt with the Asmannde in the War of Wolves, someday both chapters know that they will still have a reckoning to settle the score.
