Hermae is the fifth planet and outermost of the Persid System. A gas giant, its hydrogen-rich atmosphere is being harvested by the Adeptus Mechanicus for use in plasma technology. Hermae has three moons, two of which are uninhabited because the Imperium has no use for them.
History[]
Hermae was colonised with the rest of the system in M38. The sub-orbital mining stations were the last Mechanicus production sources to be established, and their activation ended the colonisation process. Since then, Hermae has exported become a vital part of the Imperium's supply lines in this subsector.
Recent Events[]
Nothing of interest has happened in this part of the Persid System.
Production[]
The Adeptus Mechanicus has mining stations in the upper atmosphere fully crewed by servitors and tech-priests who oversee them. Hermae is subjected to the highest tithe grades due to the extremely high demand for plasma as an energy source for star ships and weapons technologies.
Hydrogen, helium and nitrogen are collected from dorsal fins attached to collection tanks on each mining station. The filled tanks are then transported to a landing pad on the station's roof for removal by cargo ships. These ships, though crewed by humans, are slaved to Mechanicus machine-spirits and must proceed along pre-plotted courses.
The mines also collect water vapour and oxygen from Hermae's atmosphere, the latter of which is fused with hydrogen atoms to create yet more water. Water generated this way is exported to both Demetra (for farming) and to Sophia's Rest (for distribution in the hives).
Hermae's hydrogen mines supply gas to the rest of the system, though most of it is exported across the Imperium.
Planetary System[]
Hermae has three moons: Maia, Apol and the outermost, Rea which is the only one inhabited. It hosts a Mechanicus research station where plasma is experimented on. In the event of catastrophic destruction, it is calculated that Rea will be too far away from other Imperial installations to imperil them.
Military Forces[]
The mining stations themselves have a skeleton crew of Skitarii defenders. Considering how vulnerable a target the mining platforms are, a well-placed shot from an enemy warship would make concerted defence superfluous. The research station, while similarly vulnerable is more heavily defended because the facility, if captured, could be used as a base by enemies invading the system.
