The Haietlik are a Loyalist Adeptus Astartes Chapter created during the 23rd 'Sentinel' Founding, comprised of both Firstborn and Primaris Space Marines. The Haietlik are semi-Codex compliant chapter that focuses on close-quarter battle and fighting in combined arms warfare alongside the Astra Militarum. They hail from the planet of Tac'am in the Ghoul Stars, on the very fringes of the Segmentum Ultima. As ardent followers of the Promethean Cult, the chapter places immense value on self-reliance, compassion towards the citizens of the Imperium, and when the need arises, self-sacrifice.

Chapter History

The Haietlik (pronounced Hai-e-Tilk) are a Salamanders Successor Chapter founded during the 23rd Founding, the so-called 'Sentinel Founding', hailing from the planet of Tac'am in the Ghoul Stars. First discovered during the Great Crusade by a Salamander's ship that had been set off course in a warp storm, Tac'am willingly joined the Imperium. Tac'am and its moons have been greatly modernized, but still, the ways of old persist, and strong connections are made between the people of Tac'am and the Haietlik. The Haietlik recruit directly from various tribes and villages across the planet. The Haietlik take notes from their parent chapter and are fierce warriors, hell-bent on defending the people of the Imperium above all else.

They also share some of the same genetic quirks as their forebears having unnaturally dark skin and red eyes, although to a lesser severity. This is thought to stem from the higher than expected levels of radiation present on the planet. This darker skin and reddish eyes are present only after applicants have received the Melanchromic Organ implant. These mutations appear in all members of the chapter except those destined to be Librarians. These marines will have grey skin and icy blue eyes leading to their name; Ice Seers. The reasons for this are unknown, but some among the chapter believe it to be tied to ancient legends of people with seemingly magical powers and inhuman appearances. All Haietlik are trained heavily in close-quarters combat and use a wide array of weapons some of which are made from creatures native to Tac'am and in some rare cases a special type of ice created by the chapter's Librarians. To become a marine of the Haietlik aspirants must work in a team of five to slay a legendary beast native to the planet known as a Haietlik. It is a large ocean-dwelling serpent capable of discharging electricity.

Civilised World 1

Departmento Cartographicae official pict-file of Tac'am, Chapter home world of the Haietlik Chapter.

A heavily forested, cold world with large oceans, mountains, and ice fields. The planet also has significant volcanic activity. Tac'am has two moons, Cap and Cada. The majority of the population lives on these moons as the world is considered to be extremely dangerous and its population tribal. Tac'am is located on the eastern fringes of the Segmentum Ultima deep into Ghoul Stars and within the Tsil system. The people of Tac'am are friendly, brave, and hardworking, mostly subsiding on hunting, craftsmanship, and mining. An immediate connection was made between the people of Tac'am and the Salamanders for these reasons. Another similarity between the two is the presence of a large beast native to the planet. Called the Haietlik, it is a large serpent-like beast native to the deep oceans of Tac'am. This legendary beast is where the chapter gets its name from.

Fortress-Monastery

The fortress-monastery of the Haietlik is the Firebreak. The Firebreak is a massive ziggurat-like structure built upon an extinct volcano that sits in the shadow of Cro'Nos, the largest volcano on the planet. It was constructed to not only serve as the chapter’s fortress Monastery but also to protect the planetary capital of Nova Hest from volcanic eruptions and act as a shelter for the populace of Tac’am.

There are two components to the Firebreak, the ziggurat fortress, built upon and within a now-extinct volcano, and its two walls. The main bulk of the fortress is host to all of the main staples of an astartes fortress-monastery, such as teleportariums, armories, and more than twenty major forges. There is a single main hangar that is located at the uppermost level of the fortress. This arrangement allows for a near-constant flow of air traffic in and out of the fortress, with aircraft either taking off or landing from hangers on either side or pads on the roof. Each external “step” of the ziggurat wraps around the entire structure and serves as a defensive platform, bristling with weapons and bunkers. The walls extend out of the east and west sides of the ziggurat fortress and bend in a crescent shape encompassing the planetary capital. The walls are deeply embedded into solitary volcanoes at their ends which share their names with the walls; Jir’hiya refers to the east wall and volcano and Sur’hiya for the west. These walls not only protect the planetary capital from volcanic activity but also host two massive spires each, with one emanating from the middle of the crescent and the other at the end. The spires are home to some of the fortress's long-range communication systems as well as a number of forge-chapels. These forge-chapels are used by members of the chapter to meditate and reflect whilst they work on the maintenance and improvement of their equipment in solitude.

The huge size of the Firebreak is due to the nature of life in the Ghoul Stars. Far from the light of the astronomican and often years away from help even at the best of times, the Firebreak holds enough industry to make the Haietlik chapter mostly self-sufficient whilst also providing some support to the civilian population

Chapter Organization

The Haietlik are semi-Codex compliant chapter. They generally operate in and around the fringes of the Segmentum Ultima. The chapter’s current strength sits at 1,000 marines. These 1000 are split into two different groups. The first are the Hunter fleets. Each of the hunter fleets consists of 200 marines each. Generally they patrol the Ghoul stars, often coming into conflict with Exodite Eldar, renegade astartes, and the countless other horrors' that inhabit the region. They often fight in combined arms with the Imperial Guard. The additional 200 marines serve in the Protector Fleet and patrol the segmentum.

Each of the four hunter fleets usually acts independently of the others and adapts to its current warzone and foe. Everything from the loadouts of marines to camouflage is adjusted to best suit the warzone. As the Haietlik often fight alongside the Imperial guard, close communication is kept to best plan out strategies and keep human casualties to a minimum. Whilst the hunter fleets operate separately, they do on occasion join when the crusade calls for a larger force.

The Protector fleet generally patrols around and in the Tsil system, the star system that the chapter calls home. Generally the youngest and oldest members of the chapter serve in the Protector fleet. This allows the Protector Fleet to act as a sort of 10th company for the Chapter, as the newest members of the chapter to learn directly under the tutelage of its most experienced marines.

Despite this apparent disunity, the chapter still remains close and cohesive as the overall ties of brotherhood run deep. Any and all information gathered from each warzone is also shared between each of the fleets.

The Hunter Fleets

There are a total of four hunter fleets. While the majority of troop composition and wargear changes from battle to battle, there are some constants. Each of the hunter fleets is made up of 200 total marines. Each of the hunter fleets can be further broken down into two "cadres" of 90 battleline marines each with a command element of 10 for a total of 100 marines .  These 90 battle marines are broken down into 10 man squads and then again into 5 man fireteams.

Each hunter fleet's cadre command element is made up of:

  • 1 Captain
  • 2 Lieutenants
  • 2 Apothecaries
  • 1 Chaplain
  • 1 Ancient (Standard Bearer)
  • 1 Cadre Champion
  • 1 Librarian
  • 1 Veteran with heavy/relic weapon

The Four hunter fleets are:

  • Hunter fleet Basalt
    • Drake Cadre
    • Hell-Fire Cadre
  • Hunter Fleet Obsidian
    • Magma Cadre
    • Wyvern Cadre
  • Hunter Fleet Dacite
    • Hydra Cadre
    • Basilisk Cadre
  • Hunter Fleet Scoria
    • Talos Cadre
    • Wyrm Cadre

The Protector Fleet

The Protector Fleet, also called the Orca Fleet, generally patrols around and in the Ghoul Stars closest to Tac’am and consists of 200 marines in contrast to the 100 of the Hunter fleet. Generally the youngest and oldest members of the chapter serve in the Protector fleet. This allows for the newest members of the chapter to learn directly under the tutelage of its most experienced marines. Due to the unique nature of the chapter’s structure, they do not have a 10th company reserved for scouts and  new recruits. Rather, new recruits, after passing the trials to be accepted into the chapter, are either billeted to established squads or placed into a new squad with a veteran sergeant as the leader in order to properly guide the newly appointed marines.

Notable Members

Chapter Master of the Haietlik

  • Heng Ashmaker, Smiter of Drakes - Chapter master of the Haietlik for more than a century Heng has led the Haietlik on several crusades. Originally training to become a chaplain, Heng distinguished himself after rallying beaten back marines and imperial forces to rescue a besieged city from the forces of chaos. Heng would later kill the leader of the chaos force by tackling him into a magma flow. Heng would nearly die, losing his legs, an arm and suffering extensive burns. After this Heng was unanimously decided to become the next chapter master. He wields the relic thunder hammer Drakes Bane, a massive two handed weapon gifted to the chapter by the Salamanders during the chapter's founding.

Chief Librarian

  • Ea’ce Orek, Seer of the Frozen Ways - An incredibly powerful psyker, Orek has served as the chief librarian for more than two and a half centuries. Originally an orphan, Orek was taken in by the chapter and served as a serf until his psychic powers were noticed. Eerily calm even for a space marine, Orek primarily utilizes his psychic powers to boost the morale and efficiency of friendly forces. Due to how he utilizes his powers he is usually behind the front lines supporting the main assault. However one should not underestimate his destructive powers.

Lord chaplain

  • Norsen Kos - Head chaplain of the Haietlik, Norsen Kos tends to lead from the front. Having risen to his position after the elevation of Heng to chapter master, Kos is headstrong and proud but not to the point of being a fault. He often dons a jump-pack and joins the main assault, blaring prayers through his vox in order to motivate his allies and strike fear in his foes.

Chief Apothecary

  • Sansun Hal - Chief Apothecary of the Haietlik, Sansun Hal is by and large one of the most "human" and approachable astartes of the chapter. Caring deeply not only for the lives of his fellow astartes but also of those in the Imperial guard and civilian populations. Often during and after major operations Hal ensures that the beleaguered civilian populations of war torn worlds are properly equipped to begin rebuilding efforts. He coordinates these efforts from aboard his ship "The Flame of Humanity"
