- "We stand firm in the belief of our forefather, knowing that all weakness must be purged. But what our Primogenitor refuses to acknowledge is the weakness of the mind, that our need to replace flesh is weakness one that even our Primarch knew. Each Bionic we graft to our flesh was not simply gifted, but was earned in the furnace of war against the numerous foes we face. "
- — Chaplain Arsenios
The Gorgons of Extinction are a Loyalist Successor chapter created from gene-seed of the stoic and unforgiving Iron Hands Primarch Ferrus Manus, during the 8th Founding sometime during the mid-34th Millennium. While similar to their forefathers in their heavy usage of Bionic Implants and ruthless efficiency against the enemies of Mankind, they place a much greater value on their connection to the Imperium as a whole - viewing the self-imposed isolationism of their progenitor chapter as an extreme sign of weakness. They have garnered a reputation of honor for their countless sacrifices across the Imperium, saving the countless lives of many Imperial Guard regiments and even serving besides the likes of the Raven Guard, Salamanders, and their various successor chapters despite the amenity of their parent chapter.

Chapter Beliefs
In comparison to their primogenitor, the Gorgons of Extinction rejected the notion of self-imposed isolation their founding chapter.
Gene-Seed
While they still feel a need to replace their flesh, the chapter long ago decreed that falling to ones own internal urges was a sign of cowardice - as such, it was decided that all Bionic implants used within the chapter were to be earned through the furnace of war. Due to this, it has been noted over the millennia that rates of Bionic usuage have been in decline, with the highest percentage of Bionic Implants being only 60% amongst Veterans, with the exception of Techmarines.
Primarch's Curse: Steel Over Flesh
When the Chapter's genetic curse manifests itself in an affected Battle-Brother, it comes on in three stages:
- Level 1 (A Disdain for Flesh) - The Battle-Brother perceives his own flesh as a hindrance. Scarring or punishing the biological portions of his body is the only way to sooth his anger.
- Level 2 (Cold Fury) - The ruthlessness of the Iron Hands manifests more strongly in the Battle-Brother, making him prone to aggression.
- Level 3 (Zero Tolerance) - All Iron Hands abhor weakness, but the Battle-Brother has taken this attitude to an extreme. The Battle-Brother will seek to remove any perceived source of weakness, to the point of refusing to fight alongside allied forces such as the Imperial Guard - in extreme cases, even entering into open conflict with an allied force.

Chapter Appearance
Chapter Colours
The Gorgons of Extinction primarily wear dark-grey power armor, with green serving for both the shoulder trim and the Imperial Aquila on the chest plate. Each kneepad is stenciled with the right knee in a Roman Numeral for the Company and the left in a Gothic Numeral for squad identification.
Chapter Badge
The badge of the chapter is a four-sided looped square, also known in ancient times as the 'Gorgons Loop' - often associated with the Grecian mythological creature Medusa from ancient Terran myth, colored entirely in white.
