The Golden Boars is an Ultima Founding Successor Chapter created using the genetic stock of the mighty Space Wolves. This noble chapter is comprised entirely of Primaris Space Marines. Their inception took place at the end of the Indomitus Crusade. The Golden Boars were created from those Primaris Space Marines recruited from the Death World - Ahwum - and its surrounding systems. These Primaris Space Marines had formed a close bond, often working alongside the Greyshields from the lineage of the Ultramarines and the Imperial Fists during their time in the Unnumbered Sons.

Following their creation the Golden Boars quickly garnered a reputation as noble and versatile warriors, who would use flexible tactics to best their enemy even with unfavorable odds. Since their inception the Golden Boars take great pride in their skill in combat and ability to quickly adapt to any situation.

Ahwum

Kirica-ana-Watar

Instead of building one singular massive structure to act as the Chapter's fortress-monastery, the Golden Boars have instead created an entire city for their chapter found at the edges of the High Forest, a large mountain range filled with swamps and forests. The city itself is ever-growing, as more and more inhabitants of Ahwum wish to live closer to the Angels of the Emperor.

The High Forest is a treacherous terrain, with beasts roaming the forests and some particularly hungry beasts even wager a trip into the fortress. These beasts combined with the swamps and high mountains make it impossible for travelers to make direct route to the fortress. The fortress-monastery is guarded by heavily armed chapter serfs and the neophytes of the chapter as well as a small contingent of veteran Astartes. Once an aspirant has appeared at one of the Gates of the Outer City, it is the duty of the chapters´ serfs to guide him through a complex system of caverns beneath the city to the Gate of Souls.

High Cathedral

The High Cathedral is the largest and most grandious of the chapters churches to the Emperor. A gigantic temple found at the center of the Monastery, the High Cathedral was built by the chapters most skilled craftsmen and is large enough for all battle-brother to honour the Emperor at the same time. The High Cathedral stores the most holy relics of the chapter, including a standard bolt that is said to have been fired by the Emperor´s own hands. Every hour of the day, the bells of the High Cathedral ring aloud to remember those that hear it of the sacrifize the emperor made. In addition to being a place of worship for the Emperor, the High Cathedral also includes a massive and heavily guarded catacomp that holds the bones of every fallen hero of the chapter that could be retrieved, keeping them close to the emperor to honour their death.

Pfalzina

The Pfalzina is a large complex of connected buildings close to the High Cathedral. The Pfalzina is essentially a miniature Fortress-Monastery, including the specialist halls such as the Reclusiam, while being only large enough to house the Chapter Master and his scara.

Recruitment

The Blessing

It is the sacred duty of the Watch Priests to wander the lands of Ahwum, to find those who could potentially become one of the Emperor´s Angels. Whenever rumors of clashes between clans or of wars, the Watch Priests send a small group of neophytes to observe and watch over the battle. If one was to stant out, the Watch Priest leaves the Fortress Monastery together with a horde of cherubs, approaching the warrior in the middst of his peers and bestowing him with a mark on his face. This mark acts as a symbol for those that receive it, to begin the long pilgrimage to Kirica-ana-Watar.

The Gate of Souls

The Golden Boars make new aspirants undergo a similar event to the Gate of Morkai, which they call the Gate of Souls. Once arrived at the outer gates of their fortress-monastery, the aspirants are brought into it´s depth, for it is here where the gates sit. HIdden behind the acidic water of Ahwum, the Librarians of the Golden Boars rip and tear at the minds of the initiates, attempting to break their mind, while also scanning it at the same time. Those who pass are then sent to the Watch Priests, where the aspirants have to complete a variety of trials.

Trials

  • Trial of the Water - The new aspirants are taken to a large cavern underneath the city that is filled with water. The aspirants are then ordered to jump into the water and make it to the other side before their skin has become fully eroded by the water.
  • Trial of Might - After completing the Trial of Water the aspirants find themselves on a small passage with nothing below for hundreds of feet. It is than that the aspirants are ordered to slay the aspirant that is closest to them, to show their devotion to the emperor.

The Test of the Emperor

During this test the aspirants are brought into the chapter´s Reclusiam to receive the Canis Helix. This gene-seed is kept in a holy relic, as this gene-seed is needed for the chapter´s other gene-seed to activate. The Golden Boars consume the Canis Helix from a chalice decorated with engravings and gemstones. The chalice was made from the armor of the Golden Boar´s first chapter master.

After drinking from the sacred chalice the aspirants are dropped on the top of the highest mountain chain of Ahwum, the Shrewd Mountains. These mountains, a place so viscous it is left untouched by civilization, makes a perfect training ground for the recruits. It is here that the aspirants get their first experience with the Canis Helix and the curse that it comes with. The aspirants are dropped on the Shrewd Mountains with the singular goal to get back to the foot of the mountain, a task made even more dangerous by the deadly beasts living within the mountains.

Contestants

Unlike other Space Marine Chapters, the Golden Boars have no dedicated Scout Company in which their aspirants are trained. Instead their neophytes are trained by the members of the Scara Guard, often training under one specific Veteran of the Chapter for their entire time as neophytes. Upon joining the Scara Guard, each member takes a holy oath to prepare the chapters´ neophytes to join the Chapter, teach them of its history, and to guide them through the worship of the Emperor.

In return the neophytes act as personal serfs to their mentors and take a vow to never dishonour the chapter. Once a mentor deems a neophyte ready, the neophyte will become a Contestant.

Contestants are neophytes that have completed their training and act as the main line of defense for the chapter´s homeworld. It is the sole wish of each and every Contestant to one day join the ranks of a Mansus by completing the rite of the Spietus, a spear fight between a contestant and a member of the squad they wish to join. Only those contestants that are able to best a member of the squad in this ancient and holy rite, are allowed to join the squad and become full members of the Chapter.

Chapter Organisation

While the nominal fighting strength of the Chapter is kept at the Codex-Astartes approved 1,000 Space Marines, the Golden Boars do not make use of the Codex´s prescribed company structure, instead basing it´s organization on Mansus, groups of five to twenty battle-brothers.

Heri Companies

Heri Companies are formations created on the order of the Chapter Master. They are led by a Captain (or Afjesendter), who himself is chosen from the upper ranks of the scara, as well as other members of the scara to act as Lieutenants and Veterans in the Heri. The mansus form the main bulk of a Heris´ units, being chosen by the Captain to act in his Heri. Usually a Heri is disbanded after a few missions or a campaign.

Officer Ranks

  • Afjesendter (Captain) - The Golden Boars variant of a captain. Chosen from the upper ranks of the scara to lead a Heri. Afjesendter means Emissary in the native lagnuage of Ahwum
  • Baron (Sergeant) - Baron stems from the ahwumian word for nobleman and they act as the Golden Boar´s equivalent to a sergeant, leading a Mansus Squad in and out of Battle.

Specialist Ranks

  • Watch Priest - Combining the roles of a Chaplain and Apothecary, these mythical warriors not only keep an eye on the physical health of their battle-brothers, but also on their spiritual health, ensuring that they remain true in their service to the Emperor.
    • Biskop - The highest ranking officer of the Watch Priests is known simply as the Biskop. The Biskop fullfills a very important role in the Chapter, acting as the right hand of the Chapter Master and it is his blessing that is necessary to name a new Chapter Master.

Mansus Squads

Each Mansus, named after it´s first Baron, is just as much it´s own tatical formation as it is a part of the chapter, held equal with almost all of the other Mansus Squads. When a mansus is completely wiped out, a new Mansus is formed in it´s stead, with it´s new Baron being taken from the ranks of the scara. Barons are expected eventually nominate a successor from within his mansus, who will be chosen to accompany him to officer-level briefings and take command in the event of his death. A Battle-Brother is likely to remain tied to his squad until his own death, should he not be chosen to join the scara, as battle-brothers are not placed into other mansus. There are four common types of mansus squads, each holding its own rank and battlefield purpose: Battleline Mansus Squads, Fire Support Mansus Squads, Close Support Mansus Squads and Scout Mansus Squads.

The members of a mansus will eat, sleep and train with each other, creating a tight kinship between them that will last onto death. After the death of a battle-brother, the members of a mansus hold a large feast, retelling stories of the fallen brother.

Scara Guard

The Scara Guard are the most elite Veterans of the Golden Boars. They are the bravest and most skilled warriors of the chapter, hand-selected by the Chapter Master to serve as his chosen protectors and vanguard for the chapters´ forces. In addition to forming the elite of the chapter, these warriors also act as the command structure and specialists for the chapter. The warriors of the Scara receive the favours of their Chapter Master, such as ancient weapons, ornate Artificer Power Armour and, most precious of all, rare and venerated suits of Terminator Armour.

Each Battle-Brother that serves in this elite has earned their place by some exceptional feat of arms or bravery that marked them out amongst their brothers, for a member of the Scara is chosen based on his heroic deeds, rather than his age or time served within the chapter. Therefore, the Scara Guard maintains a mix of hot-blooded young warriors and noble veterans amongst its ranks.

  • High Paladins - The Chapter Master maintains a cadre of elite Scara Guard, comprising the finest warriors and tacticians under his command. These Champions of Ahwum, the "High Paladins", are always at the Chapter Master´s call, accompanying him to every battle and commanding the forces of the chapter. They are the axe and shield of the Golden Boars, fending of enemy attacks before landing one destructive blow. To face the High Paladins in battle is to face death itself.
  • Aprine Cavalry - Aprine Cavarly units are a sub-group of the Scara Guard. According to imperial records, the Aprine Cavalry does not exist and the Golden Boars keep them a closely guarded secret. Aprine Cavalry is composed of a sleuth of giant Ahwian Wild Boars that stand around the height of the Hippopotamus of ancient Terra and are used as mounts by the most elite members of the Scara. The wild boars used in this near-mythical unit are often augmented by the Chapter´s Techmarines with Adamantium jaws, Imperial bionics and metal limbs that enhance their speed even further. The practice of taming these beasts is thought to be an initiation ritual required to join the upper ranks of the Scara,

Chapter Beliefs

All Space Marines are renowned for their fervent dedication, but the extent of the Golden Boars´ faith is often described as fanatical. They seek nothing less than to destroy any last enemy of Mankind.

The Chapter´s dogma reserves a special hatred for particular enemies, specifically the mutant and the Xenos. The reason for this is to be found in the Chapter´s founders suffering heavy loses against the Tyranids during their time in the Unnumbered Sons. When a Golden Boars battle-brother strikes down a champion of the enemy, he is enacting the will of the emperor.

Unlike most other Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, the Golden Boars have come to revere the Emperor as the one, true god of Mankind, just as the mortals of the Imperium do, a believe that has driven them to new heights of fanaticism. The Golden Boars adhere closely to the dictates of the Imperial Creed, sharing many of its teachings and beliefs, something that has resulted in close ties with various bodies within the Ecclessiarchy.

When not engaged in battle, the battle-brothers of the Golden Boars spend their time in prayer and meditation, reliving past glories with the members of their mansus or engaged in long and complicated training rituals. Those entrusted with the training of the neophytes spend long solar hours passing on their knowledge and supervising endless drills, practice sessions and trials. The members of a mansus frequently challenge each other to many physical and mental hardships, something few Golden Boars would ever forget to boast about.

When a member of the Chapter is slain, their bones are laid to rest in the crypt of their mansus. Following the death of a battle-brother, a large feast is held is held in his honour. Before the feast, the members of the deceased´s mansus go out into the wild to hunt, bringing back copious amounts of rare and delicious meats. During the feast the mansus and all those wishing to honour the fallen, learn stories about the deceased. These stories, called Sagas, are sung by the personal serfs of the battle-brother. The feast last for an indefinate amount of time, however long is necessary for the lyres of the serfs to tire.

An ancient tradition of the Chapter dictates that no new Chapter Master shall be chosen without all Watch Priests of the Chapter present. When a new Chapter Master is to be chosen, all members of the Chapter gather in the halls of the High Cathedral to pray to the Emperor. It is during this prayer, that can last for days or even weeks, that one among them may be granted a vision, the validity of this is decided by the Biskop alone. Only once a true vision of the Emperor has been received, is that marine declared the new Chapter Master.

Pursecute the Mutant

To outsiders of the chapter, the lack of Wulfen may seem like a success in Belassarius Cawls effort´s to purge the curse of the wulfen from the chapters geneseed, finally succedding in stabalizing the geneseed of Leman Russ.

This however, could hardly be further from the truth, for the Golden Boars still suffer from the curse of their lineage, seeing it as a challenge bestowed to all of them by the emperor himself. The Golden Boars believe that through prayer and meditation they can avoid succumbing to the curse, for the emperor has no use for savage mutants.

Those of the chapter that fall to the Curse of Wulfen are seen as failures not only to their chapter but to the emperor himself. It is for this reason that it falls upon the Watch Priests of the chapter to slay any wulfen that may emerge.

Traditions

  • Endless Glory of the Emperor - Known as the Endless Glory of the Emperor, this symbol is used by the Golden Boars to ward of evil and sorcery. The members of the chapter often carve it into their armour and equipment, to protect themselves and connect to the Emperors´ light.

Prove of Strength

One of the more unusual aspects of the Golden Boars´ worship of the Emperor is the Chapter´s menagerie of creatures. Their homeworld has become home to many dangerous and exotic beasts from all accross the galaxy. All Golden Boars return to the wilds of Ahwum after a campaign, connecting with nature and proving their prowess being slaying a powerful beast. After the return of a marine from the wilds, a battle-brother´s mansus will feast upon the spoils of his hunt.

Some of these beasts are capable of slaying even a fully armoured Space Marine, providing a great danger to the inhabitants of Ahwum. This is something the Golden Boars see as part of the Emperors´ Plan, believing that those strong and brave enough to defend themselves are truely worthy of the Emperor´s light.

Great Challenge

It is the duty of every battle-brother of the Golden Boars chapter to accept any challenge bestowed upon them. As such it has become a common for the members of the chapter to challenge each other to greater deets. For the Golden Boars it does not matter if a challenge is bestowed from a fellow brother or from a complete stranger, accepting it is part of their duty to the Emperor.

Those that fail to complete a challenge bestowed upon them, are seen as weak and shamefull. Many Golden Boars bear the scars of the ritualistic cutting of their flesh, from when they had to restore their honour after a lost challenge, but those free from the scars are looked at with the highest respect by their battle-brothers.

Chapter Combat Doctrine

When a mission is decided upon, the Golden Boars´ Chapter Master announces the captain for the mission and how many squads he believes will be required to ensure its success. All sergeants who wish to volunteer their mansus for the mission are expected to arrive at the Rinc by the next ringing of the bell. The captain then proposes a challenge to the present sergeants, choosing the succeding ones for his mission.

The Golden Boars do not specialize in any particular form of combat, instead proving to be highly efficient generalists - surprisingly proficient at every task required in warfare, but not master of any of them. They have come to rely on the holy dictates of the Codex Astartes to best any given tactical situation. This tome contains the wisdom of thousands of warriors who have contributed to the Codex, and details everything regarding warfare within its pages.
