The Forgesworn are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter born from the Ultima Founding, descending from the Primarch Vulkan, and embodying his legacy of resilience and endurance. They honor the Emperor through deeds and service, focusing on the practical aspects of duty rather than religious reverence. The Forgesworn maintain a unique relationship with the Astra Militarum, dedicating themselves to training mortal regiments in the art of war, believing the future of humanity lies in the strength of the common man. They foresee a time when the Astartes are no more, either due to the increasing degradation of their gene-seed or their inevitable fall to Chaos and thus focus on ensuring that the Imperial Guard can stand as a formidable force in the face of any threat. Unyielding in battle and steadfast in their purpose, the Forgesworn are ever vigilant in their duty to safeguard the Imperium.
Chapter History
The Salamanders were kept largely unaware of what new Successor Chapters were created from their gene-seed by Belisarius Cawl, and once they learned of their existence, they were always quick to dispatch a Chaplain to the Chapter to teach them the ways of the Promethean Cult.
While the Forgesworn were quick to embrace the teachings of the Promethean Cult they abhorred the practice of ritual scarification, or honor-scarring. The Forgesworn find virtue in those scars earned on the battlefield, viewing them as sacred marks of devotion and sacrifice. Each scar tells the story of hardship endured in service to the Imperium, embodying their core belief that true strength is forged through action. Conversely, they reject ritual scarification, considering it a hollow gesture devoid of genuine meaning. To the Forgesworn, only scars gained in the fires of war hold true value, while self-inflicted marks are seen as a falsehood, a betrayal of the ideals of resilience and earned honor.
Notable Campaigns
- Talledus War - On the fortress world of Ghreddask, the Forgesworn waged a brutal campaign against the relentless assaults of the Iron Warriors and their vile allies in the Dark Mechanicus. The hive cities, towering bastions of humanity, became battlegrounds where the Forgesworn’s indomitable resilience was tested against the enemy’s siegecraft and technological abominations. Within the labyrinthine streets and vast manufactorums, the Forgesworn stood shoulder to shoulder with the dwindling Astra Militarum defenders, coordinating the mortal regiments in a desperate struggle to repel the invaders.
Chapter Homeworld
Ferrus Mons, the homeworld of the Forgesworn, is a harsh mining world located on the edge of the Imperium. Its surface is scarred with vast open pits, deep mines, and towering cliffs of raw mineral deposits, all exploited by the planet’s brutal mining operations. The world is surrounded by a desolate, dust-choked landscape—vast deserts, jagged mountains, and deep ravines—where the struggle for survival is a daily reality. The planet’s cities are constructed directly into the planet’s rocky surface, built like massive fortresses to withstand the harsh environment and constant threat of local fauna and environmental hazards. Life on Ferrus Mons is defined by ceaseless toil, with its people working tirelessly in the mines, extracting precious resources that fuel the Imperium’s war machine.
The culture of Ferrus Mons is one of strength, endurance, and unwavering discipline. Its citizens are trained from a young age to endure the grueling conditions of the mines and the dangers of the surface, embodying the values of toughness and resilience. The Forgesworn Chapter draws much of its character and strength from Ferrus Mons, viewing the planet as a crucible in which warriors are forged through hardship. The planet’s Astra Militarum regiment, forged in the same fires as the Chapter, is known for its unwavering fortitude, making them a formidable force in battle. Ferrus Mons serves not only as the birthplace of the Forgesworn but also as the foundation of their enduring strength, where the trials of the mines prepare both the warriors of the Chapter and the soldiers of the Imperium to face the most unforgiving of enemies.
Fortress-Monastery
The Forgesworn’s Fortress Monastery, known as The Crucible, is a monumental stronghold located on Pyrrhos, the primary moon of Ferrus Mons. The monastery is built into the heart of a dormant volcano, symbolizing the Chapter’s belief in strength through adversity. The structure is massive, designed to withstand both external assault and the harsh environment of the moon. It features sprawling forge chambers, towering training arenas, and an advanced central command center that oversees both the defense of Ferrus Mons and the ongoing preparation of the Forgesworn’s warriors.
Chapter Organization
The Forgesworn loosely adhere to the Codex Astartes but have several key deviations to accommodate their dual focus on warfare and training. They are divided into ten companies, with their 1st Company taking on the specialized role of Commandant Company, overseeing the training of Astra Militarum regiments and ensuring readiness across Ferrus Mons and other systems.
Officer Ranks
Lord Commandant - The Lord Commandant serves as both the Captain of the 1st Company and the ultimate overseer of the Forgesworn’s Commandants, coordinating their efforts across multiple war zones and ensuring that the Chapter’s philosophy and training doctrines are upheld. As a key member of the Chapter’s leadership the Lord Commandant works to align the 1st Company’s efforts with the Chapter’s overall strategy and goals. They are also responsible for maintaining the Chapter’s relationship with the Astra Militarum, ensuring smooth coordination and mutual respect between the Astartes and their mortal allies. Additionally, the Lord Commandant serves as an advisor to the Chapter Master, providing insight into the state of Imperial forces and offering strategic recommendations based on their extensive experience working alongside humanity’s defenders.

The Commandants - The Commandants of the Forgesworn are an elite cadre of Astartes drawn from the Chapter’s 1st Company. Chosen not only for their exceptional martial prowess but also for their unyielding discipline, self-sacrifice, and mental fortitude, these veterans embody the virtues of the Chapter and the Promethean Cult. Hardened in the crucible of war, the Commandants are tempered warriors, exemplifying the strength and endurance that the Forgesworn hold in the highest regard. Their ability to inspire and lead makes them invaluable not just in battle but also in their broader role as mentors and defenders of humanity.
Unlike other Chapters that concentrate their veteran elites into exclusive units, the Forgesworn deploy their Commandants across the Chapter and within Imperial forces. This practice ensures they serve as paragons of discipline and strength, reinforcing the Chapter’s ethos and acting as unshakable pillars of morale and order. Commandants fulfill dual roles: they are not only shock troops and battlefield leaders, often equipped with masterfully crafted Terminator Armour, but also exemplars of the Chapter’s ideals. They mentor mortal soldiers and embody the Forgesworn’s unrelenting drive to safeguard the Imperium, making them essential to the Chapter’s mission and legacy.

By the Forgesworn:
- "Faith is found in our deeds, not in words. We honor the Emperor through our actions on the battlefield and in service to the Imperium. Anything else is irrelevant. Your faith should be in your duty and your comrades, in your arms and your armor."
