— (Translated to High-Gothic, "We are the sons of the deep, the sword that guides the realm of man, we are the King of the Sea's protectors and of his people, and by his rule the xeno, heretic, and traitor will perish.") Common saying of the Emperor's Trident Chapter in their native language.

The Emperor's Trident are a mysterious and little-known Loyalist Space Marine Chapter created during an Unknown Founding and of uncertain lineage. Not a lot of official information is known about this elusive chapter's past, but recovered records state that the Emperor's Trident has been active since at least M34 or M35. They are masters of void warfare and boarding operations. Since the formation of the Great Rift in 999.M41, the majority of the chapter reunited back on their homeworld of Oranthi, unfortunately much of their First Company was battling in Imperium Nihilus when the Great Rift opened up and for now are considered lost to the chapter. Despite this setback, the Emperor's Trident continues to stand resolute during Mankind's darkest hour.

Chapter History[]

The Emperor's Trident are an enigmatic Space Marine Chapter created during an Unknown Founding. Exactly which lineage they are descended from is a matter of much conjecture amongst Imperial historiographers. Extant records, dating as far back as M34, indicates numerous sightings of mysterious Astartes in dark teal battle-plate adorned with deep rust coloured trim. Though not explicitly named, many believe that this unmentioned Chapter was none other than the bellicose Astartes of the Emperor's Trident. It has been said that where ever this chapter goes bloody and costly battles soon follow.

Ever since the Oranthian Crusade and the numerous Drukhari raids on Oranthi have forced the Chapter to start recruiting from Oranthi's moons of Sor'yin, Zarranci and Jotalesh. While recruitment on Oranthi is still the chapter's main source of aspirants, at the start of the 41st Millennium the chapter now recruits from both Oranthi and her moons. When the knowledge of the Emperor's Trident's Chapter strength came to light, the Inquisition sent a team to the chapter's homeworld to find out the truth and reasoning behind this. Unfortunately, while the group was enroute to Oranthi the galaxy-wide warp rift known as the Cicatrix Maledictum opened up and the Inquisitorial vessel was believed to be lost.

Many Emperor's Trident Companies were fighting heretic forces during the 13th Black Crusade, deny the Archenemy valuable Docking Ports. During this conflict an Officer from a unknown chapter informed the Chapter Master Tercal Norith of a chaos warband raiding near the Oranthi System. With this news Norith ordered all companies, aside from the 1st Company, ordered to reinforce Oranthi and the nearby systems. When the Great Rift opened up across the galaxy it was believed by the chapter that the 1st Company was in what would be called Dark Imperium and many consider the honored Rust Guard lost to the Brotherhood

With the Chapter's homes stem so close to the border of the Dark Imperium it has made heretic fleets all the more common and so the Emperor's Trident and other nearby forces have fortified their planets as fast as they could to weather the storm. After a devastating attack from an Emperor's Children warband the chapter was given respite with Guilliman's Crusade and their primaris reinforcement.

Primaris Reinforcements[]

Having been reinforced with Primaris marines the surviving members of the chapter are untrustworthy with many calling their Primaris brothers as "Clanless" which is consider insulting on their home-world. To the Emperor's Trident whole chapter their Primaris Brothers need to prove themselves worthy to earn the right of calling themselves a brother of the Emperor's Trident. After the Primaris Space marines of the chapter have taken to a older and now rarer tradition of Oranthi and by extension the Emperor's Trident of taking the teeth and bones of slain enemies for the purpose of adorning their armour. Even though the primaris marines of the Emperor's Trident have been active for only a short time many primaris brothers have many grisly trophies covering their armour. While the 1st Company is still intending to build up their chapter with primaris, they still plan on bulking up their chapter of standard Astartes back to their original 14 whole companies on top of their new primaris reinforcements.

Since the start of the Indomitus Crusade the chapter has placed the Primaris reinforcements have been placed at the frontline of the many new campaigns that the Primarch Roboute Guilliman has laid down for the future of the Imperium. Unlike many of the chapters that have been reinforced with primaris the Emperor's Trident have been taking more losses of Primaris than most chapters.

Notable Campaigns[]

  • Theft of Warboss Dakka 'ead (290.M35) - Warboss Dakka 'ead attacked the Diasorlor and the rest of the fleet making their presence known, the first ships to fall were the Oranthian ships, with Ork Nobz boarding near the A'thohoan and many Orkz boarding various parts of the ships, some even missing the ship entirely. The Battle Brothers that were tasked in guarding the A'thohoan were all killed along with chapter serfs that were also in the A'thohoan. The fighting was largely in the Emperor’s Trident favor. With only nine Trident brothers dying in the raid a far greater loss took place. Many of the trophies/ skulls in the A’thohoan were taken including the skull of the Hell Leviathan.
  • Conquest of Xeroa (301.M35) - A system thought dead from numerous Ork WAAAGHs!, the 4th Company entered the system and immediately was attacked by Ork ships, the ships collided and brave battle brothers managed to used their to disable the thrusters at a high cost, when the company reached the planet they discovered the human population enslaved by Orkz of the Goff clan. The company laid vast orbital bombardment upon the Ork stronghold and away from main human populated area. The chapter then made planetfall via drop pods. To the human slaves it was a nothing more than a gift from the Emperor as they witnessed numerous drop pods of the Emperor's Angels of Death rained from the Heavens. Seeing this made the enslaved humans rebel with a fury like no other. The Oranthian Pirates were given strict orders to protect the humans of the world and help arm them. A major Ork empire was splintered while the chapter then took extermination campaigns around the planet then system. When the chapter started to leave the system they were ambushed by ork ships hidden in a nearby asteroid belt, the warboss of this fleet belonged to Dakka ‘Ead. The 4th Company lost many in the ambush. As soon as the company could muster up a defensive position, Dakka ‘Ead flagship fled. When the Flagship fled the company managed to board all the smaller vessels. What the 4th Company found were a few trophies stolen from the Diasorlor eleven years ago. Unfortunately only a dozen of trophies were found compared to the thousands that were taken.
  • Victory of Ethecan (612.M35) - In 612.M35, the planet of Ethecan was raided by the disgusting xenos known as the Drukhari. Fueled by the chapter's hatred of the Dark Eldar for raiding Oranthi for millennia, the Chapter company was a unwelcome surprised to the Drukhari who planned and schemed painstakingly to the sharpest detail. The Drukhari raid was going well until orbital cannons rained onto the main raiding force, with drop pods and Thunder Hawks soon following. As soon as squads emerged from their drop-pods they were immediately assaulted by groups of Wyches and Grotesques. While the main Trident Forces were assaulting Eldar holdouts, the scouts of the Company were tasks in assaulting the transports that were carrying freshly enslaved Ethecanians. The Chapter's scouts were able to save only a small number of Ethecanians, while in orbit, a group of 39 Veteran Terminators teleported onto the Drukhari's vessels and starting wreaking havoc. Meanwhile warfare on the surface was victorious purging a large number of Drukhari raiders, and many squads entering melee combat with Wyches, it is assumed that most of the more common Drukhari soldiers were killed in the orbital bombardment. Near the end of the battle the Terminator teams said that they were near the bridge with heavy resistance, immediately after that vox transmission the eldar vessel disappeared along with Terminator teams, it is assumed that the Drukhari vessels entered a nearby Webway portal. The missing Terminator teams have been called 'The Lost 39'. As 'The Lost 39' was confirmed throughout the company, the remaining Trident Brothers held in reserve on their ships made planetfall with Oranthi soldiers had their orders to also make planetfall by the company's Captain. The Drukhari became desperate after they lost their carrier vessel and they were forced to fight for any scrap of territory they had left. After weeks of fighting, the foul xenos were finally purged. After the fighting, the remaining nobility gifted their best craft with a fully staffed crew, newly named Triumph of Ethecan, after the craft was gifted the captain of the company as well as the captains of the Oranthi Escort vessels negotiated having some of the nobility of Ethecan marry into Other Chapter's Serf families and Oranthi nobles alike. The nobles agreed after the chapter made binding oaths of protection, if the planet was attacked again the chapter would come to their aid.
  • The Uprising of the Joad System (889.M35) - Many systems uprise and a small few are successful, unfortunately for the Joad system they were not. The Emperor’s Tridents entered the system destroying the majority of orbital stations in system before descending on each planet one at a time, any ships that were caught escaping either were destroyed or boarded by chapter forces or Oranthians forces, those ships that were boarded by Oranthians were looted and the escapees were enslaved. The Joad forces were swiftly obliterated with no trophies taken by the chapter and not even one battle brother took a trophy as this conquest was unworthy, pathetic, and worst of all easy. The only good part of this conquest was the Oranthians pirates that are allowed to tag along with the chapter were happy with new loot and slaves.
  • Hunters and Monsters (934.M35) - During a routine escort mission to the Nemaz System to pick up tithes to the chapter and the Oranthian pirates, the mission was being surveyed by Brother-Sergeant Kair of the 4th Company and his squad of twelve battle-brothers. While enroute, a blinding light swept through the escort vessel and when Kair's squad awoke, they realized that they were on a jungle world. Kair and his squad were without their armour and weapons, the only piece of technology the squad had on them were goggles to shield their eyes from the sun. As the week progressed, the team tried to find a way off this planet. Sometime during the evening, Kair found a camp which he could only describe to his brothers as nothing short of a slaughterhouse. Further investigation revealed that these mutilated humans were the crew of the escort vessel as they noticed Oranthi tattoos and rune markings. Soon after, the Astartes squad was ambushed by an unknown xenos species. During the confrontation two brothers of Kair's squad were killed in the ambush. The xenos species are described as hulking creatures, with arms that end with sharp claws, with powerful legs that allowed the xenos to jump long distances. Within the next few days the squad was whittled down to six battle-brothers. Kair and his remaining brothers were said to have killed 79 of these xenos. At the end of a year, there were only two remaining Trident Brothers - Brother-Sergeant Kair and Brother Desh. Kair and Desh thought they would be trapped on this planet until they would eventually die, but this thought was cut short when the brothers witnessed an Imperial colony ship that landed on the planet's surface. The colonists were shocked at the appearance of two surviving Astartes. The colony ship voxed nearby vessels to pick up the two Astartes and send them back to Oranthi. The planet Kair and Desh were stranded on was later named to Kairodesh, in honour of these two valiant survivors.
  • The Appalach Crusade (012-047.M36) - It had been many years since the Emperor's Trident chapter had heard any reports of the infamous Ork Warboss known as Dakka 'Ead, and for the longest time the chapter thought he was long dead, thinking that their so-called rival was nothing but a footnote in the Chapter's history. That thought was quickly erased when a huge Ork WAAAGH! attacked the Appalach Sector. Here, Warboss Dakka 'Ead made his headquarters on the conquered planet designated Duravell. The Imperial Crusade to take back this besieged sector was comprised of mostly Astra Militarum regiments, including a regiment belonging to the famous Death Korps of Krieg and three Space Marine Chapters, including the Emperor's Trident, that accepted the call to this Crusade. At the start of the Crusade the Imperial forces were having difficulty breaking the Ork line. one of the Space Marine Chapters, later known as the Incursors, made planetfall along with three regiments of Astra Militarum troopers. After years of the Crusade, the Emperor's Trident assaulted the Ork's stronghold. Warboss Dakka 'Ead challenge the captain of the Emperor's Trident to an honour duel. As the captain approached the Warboss, the hulking greenskin removed all of his weapons and the captain did the same. What happened next, was long hours of brutal brawling. The brawl ended when the Warboss threw the captain out of a large shattered window of a large building, but not before the captain managed to take the Warboss with him, the two opponents both plunging to depths unknown. With the death of their leader, the Orks' morale was broken and the Imperial crusaders made short work of the Orks in a matter months, scouring the world of their foul presence.
  • The Space Hulk Silent Hunt (612.M37)- In 612.M37, a mysterious space hulk, codified Silent Hunt was encountered by the Emperor's Trident Chapter when it burst out of the warp and entered their demesne. This massive derelict was an oddity, as it was an unknown ship that belonged to the Emperor's Trident, identified as a Strike Cruiser known as The Depth. The 2nd Company contacted the elite 1st Company, and together they searched the space hulk. While aboard the massive derelict, the Emperor's Trident purgation forces were beset upon by wave after wave of Orks. The greenskins had discovered the floating mis-mash of vessels and settled several decades earlier. As the Orks were purged in each section the true enemy was revealed - a sadistic A.I. ruled over the space hulk. This A.I. had laid dormant for centuries until the Orks first ventured aboard the space hulk and ruined the stasis field containing the A.I. and inadvertently freed it. But this foul entity was the least of their worries as the Astartes encountered an even more dire threat deep within the heart of the space hulk. Here, they encountered a mysterious gleaming silver army of undying warriors they called the 'Silver Men' (later Imperial savants surmised these so-called 'Silver Men' to be the undying Necrons). The 1st and 2nd fought on, for what seemed like an eternity, fighting wave after wave of Silver Men as they made their way to the very heart of the hulk. Here, they finally found the malevolent A.I. needlessly causing agony to the very few surviving crew members. The 1st Company immediately purged the A.I with their rightful fury, and before it died, it gave them one final threat that it would one day return to purge their chapter. The crew members that were freed from their captivity they had endured at the hands of the sadistic A.I. for untold centuries, quickly died from advanced age, as they had only been sustained by the A.I. and the stasis field it generated. After the Abominable Intelligence was defeated, the 1st and 2nd company found their way to the ancient Emperor's Trident strike cruiser, purging both Orks and 'Silver Men' along the way. With the help of their chapter's ship, they carefully blew apart several larger pieces of the space hulk in order to free their ancestral vessel. When the vessel was finally freed, it was hauled back to the Emperor's Tridents home system. The chapter informed the local Adeptus Mechanicus of the location of the now-cleansed space hulk so that the Tech-Priests could claim any technological secrets within, before they departed for their home system.
Gernamex Xenocide

Last surviving member of Khairax squad defending his squads' banner battling a Lesser Maw Fiend of the now extinct Gernamex xeno breed.

  • The Gernamex Xenocide (751.M37) - The Gernamex Xenocide was an Imperial campaign against the xenos species known as the Gernamex, when the 3rd Company entered the Arthuo System to scout out said system for an oncoming Imperial Colony vessels. By the time the company entered the orbit of Arthuo V the Strike Cruiser was immediately assaulted by orbital cannons by the newly discovered Gernamex xenos species. When the company made planetfall via drop-pods to assault the species head-on. It wasn't until the chapter found out that there were two types of enemies a Lesser Maw Fiend and a Greater Maw Fiend. After months of warfare the chapter assaulted hive after hive setting holy fire to their dens and dragging their queens from their chambers. After the last queen was butchered the world of Arthuo V became an Imperial World.
  • The Purge of the Zersoa System (988.M39) - In 988.M39, the Emperor's Trident 3rd Company answered a distress call from the nearby Zersoa System. As the Astartes company entered the system their ship, known as the Solar Harvest, was immediately attacked by an unknown enemy, heavily damaging their vessel. During the void battle the Solar Harvest was boarded and the 3rd Company finally knew whom the true foe was - Plague Marines of the vile Death Guard Traitor Legion. The 3rd Company ship had to tactically withdraw to a nearby asteroid field in order to re-group and make some immediate repairs. They managed to take refuge in a nearby destroyed mining station, utilising it to evade the Death Guard vessel that hunted them. Here, the 3rd Company attempted to effect repairs of what they could in order to deal with their unwelcome guests. What happened next were weeks of void combat, with several boarding actions taking place between both ships. Eventually, the Death Guard ship finally withdrew from the system, their nefarious plan carried out to fruition. The system was corrupted by the long-reaching tendrils of Grandfather Nurgle, which was soon beset by various vile plagues of both Nurgle's Rot and other plagues which killed tens of millions of Imperial citizens. Due to their failure to halt the Death Guard's plans, the Imperium was later forced to launch a system-wide purge of the Zersoa System and cordoned it off from the wider Imperium. It was later declared Perdita ('Forgotten') by order of the High Lords of Terra.
  • The Signs of Brotherhood (700.M40) - At the start of the seventh century of the 40th Millennium, the Emperor's Trident, Incursors, and Shattered Star arrived on the System of Sadeth to put down a system-wide Gene-Stealer Cult and a soon after a Tyranid Splinter after the Pathfinder saw this path in a psychic vision, After contacting the two chapters to assist the Shattered Star. After a near decade of purging the mutants, a Tyranid splinter invaded the system. After a few short years of fighting the combined forces of the three Chapter fleets assaulted the splinter fleet and cut off support to the ground forces which allowed the three chapters time to purge the xenos, first on Sadeth III, then on Sadeth V and then soon on the rest of the system. After the battle, the three chapters converged back to Sadeth III where they exchanged Signs of Brotherhood and had a vast fortress built on the planet with the statues of the three chapters. As the fortress was being built the three chapters were invaded by a Chaos Space Marine Renegade Chapter, calling themselves the Wraith Claws. As the planet was under siege, the three chapters made a defensive line in and around the fortress. The fighting was fierce as the traitors used the enormous statues as cover as well as battering rams on the loyalists, as the fighting was at it fiercest the traitors used their teleportariums to send their terminators as well as their shock troops known as the Hunting Fangs, the possessed Chaos Space Marines that worked with their daemonic parasites, instead of working against it. The Terminators and Hunting Fangs focused on the Incursors who had the lowest number of Space Marines in the castle, with these shock troops punched a hole in the castle's defenses. The remaining loyalists forces were forced to retreat deeper into the castle. As the fighting continued, many battle-brothers became separated from their group or became the last survivor of their group and had to group up with different squads and many of them regrouped with squads from different chapters. While the Wraith Claws were invading the depths of the castle other Heretic Astartes as well as their slaves were collecting the dead, both traitors and loyalists. During this new assault wave the Hunting Fangs as well as the Wraith Chaos Terminators leading the assault, this assault was met by the combined forces of the Rust Guard, 1st Company of Incursors, as well half of the Shattered Stars Terminator Company. During the battle a great number of the Rust Guard and Shattered Stars Terminator Company were lost with the Incursors losing three Terminators known as Brao "The Fourth", Zarasi "The Seventh", Namaro Sequen "The Tenth". This caused the Incursors to go into an unbridled rage as the ten Terminators of their chapter were considered sacred to the chapter. After the chapter's grievous loss, many of their brothers the three chapters were held up in the main square of the castle the traitors left, as the chapters explored their nearly destroyed castle they found almost no corpses of the traitors and a fair number of the chapters dead were missing as well. When all was accounted for the three chapters decided it best to rebuild the castle and fortify it to become a vast bastion that could hold off a mighty siege. The interior of the castle was a cultural beauty with a mixture of the three chapter's culture blended as one. The fallen statues themselves were rebuilt and the many more were made. In the beginning, the three chapters called each others brothers just as a formality, but after the battle, their brotherhood was unbreakable for each and every Astartes on the planet thought that their brotherhood was deeper than blood and that nothing could ever break their brotherhood. Now these astartes chapters will always come to aid if one of them calls for it.
  • The Oranthian Crusade (018.M41) - In the beginning of the new millennia, large earthquakes started to plague the Emperor's Trident Chapter homeworld of Oranthi, causing islands to rip apart and wiping many ships that were sailing or trying to escape the destruction of these islands. The earthquakes were so devastating, even under the waves, that many aquatic animals crawled up onto the beaches, or if they couldn't walk on land then they resided near the islands in the shallow waters, preying on ships, while the creatures that could walk on land attacked human settlements. This natural disaster scared many Murder Crabs which caused them to frenzy and basically invade many of the islands, claiming the lives of many Oranthians. During this tumultuous time, the strangest event of all occurred when an ancient ship resurfaced. This vessel was extremely huge, with it being bigger than any ship the Emperor's Trident had in their chapter. The barely intact ship turned out to be the ancient colony ship that brought their ancestors to Oranthi thousands of years earlier. When the Emperor's Trident heard of the ancient colony ship resurfacing, the Scout Company was ordered to survey the ship alongside an entire Trident company near their homeworld. When the chapter alerted the closest forge-world, Chapter Master Tercal Norith agreed to allow the Adeptus Mechanicus to survey the derelict vessel for any lost technology. The ruling Archmagos eagerly sent a demi-legio of Skitarii alongside other mechanicus forces in order to assist the Chapter. Soon both Astartes and Adeptus Mechanicus forces landed on various landing sections of the ship. But as soon as the Imperial forces opened the hangar doors of ancient vessel, they were immediately beset upon by aquatic creates that made their home in the ship, which included such deadly creatures as Nova Krakens, Murder Crabs, Squids and Sea Wolves. But this was nothing compared to the seemingly endless legions of Drowned that stormed the Adeptus Mechanicus and Astartes forces. Their numbers were so vast that the Skitarii ordered armoured reinforcements and their Astartes allies requested further reinforcements as the numbered of drowned soon threatened their homeworld. With most of the chapter already engaged abroad in several brutal and bloody engagements in other parts of the galaxy, there was only one company able to answer the call. Bolstered by three whole Trident companies, they Astartes assaulting the ship alongside their Skitarii allies. They sought priceless ancient technology that was worth the losses. When the number of Drowned colonists (who died in ages past) started to dwindle down, the Imperial forces proceeded to make their way inside the ancient ship. Many parts of the archaic vessel were heavily damaged from both water and neglect. Once inside, the Imperial forces quickly realised they faced an even bigger problem in the form of a few Drowner dwellings as well as animal nests - both which were equally hostile. After spending weeks of purging the Drowned hives as well as animal nests, the Skitarii sent down tech-priests, servitors, slaves, and enginseers to seek out and ship any salvageable technology. Meanwhile, the Astartes stubbornly overlooked the entire operation, as this was their ancestral ship and their planet. However, many of the natives that died from the resultant earthquake, drowned at sea, or by native wildlife, turned into Drowned men and instinctively traveled to the ship en masse. While the Skitarii forces kept the initial attack at bay, the bulk of Drowned Men started to storm the beach. Despite their grotesque appearance, remarkably, a large number of Drowned Men still retained knowledge on how to utilise their equipment formerly used when they were alive, with many of these undead creatures able to fire their weapons. A few were even able to still utilise their vehicles. The Astartes forces assisted in defending the ship with the help of several of their Chapter's predator tanks, sinking the Drowned Men's ships and focusing fire on large clumps of the undead forces. After months of defending the ship, the high number of casualties taken by the Drowned Men finally began to take their inevitable toll, and eventually, they were finally wiped out for all time. In the end, the Adeptus Mechanicus forces found valuable STC drives and some salvageable archaeotech, which was miraculously not completely damaged. In gratitude, the Adeptus Mechanicus greatly rewarded the Chapter with additional wargear and rare equipment.
  • The Doom of the Grous System (419.M41) - The Grous System was a tragedy, as the Imperium lost many valuable planets including an agri-world, forge-world, three civilised worlds, and an ocean world. The Great Devourer entered in system due to a genestealer cult that sent their xeno beacon that alerted a nearby hive ship to the system. With the Grous system so close to the Emperor’s Trident homeworld, the chapter disengaged from all engagements to try and reach the system as fast they can. The genestealer cult revolted the authority on Grous IV, a civilised world fell into anarchy as tyranid reinforcement flooded the planet. The Emperor’s Trident sent almost their entire chapter to the Corako system as the 8th company was elsewhere. With 1300 battle brothers in system Grous IV fell and on their way to Grous III, Chapter forces made planetfall on Grous III rallying to the capital until the majority of civilian populations evacuated. With the tyranid forces advancing on the capital with sections of the capital falling each day and casualties of the Emperor’s Trident rising. When the population of Grous III and Grous II was evacuated with the Forge world sending reinforcements to the Emperor’s Trident with hundreds of thousands of guardsmen and Skitarii forces to Grous V the Emperor’s Trident chapter with Guardsmen/Skitarii holding off the tyranid forces at the capital planet while the rest of the system was devoured in that time. The fighting was so brutal and long lasting that some battle brothers had to fight with fists and some resorted to looting weapons and ammo of their fallen brothers. With the last city falling the survivors grouped up to the Chapel of the Emperor's Light. Many Battle Brothers were ready to die as the Chaplains were performing prayers that were only used in funerary services of fallen brothers and serfs and similar takes in the communal vox, with many preparing to die and thinking that there chapter would die they all yelled at the top of the throats their ancient battle cry and all vowed to not retreat and die down to the last man, as the battle was at it peak the sky rained drop-pods of two chapters, the chapters were able to push the tyranids out as the Emperor’s Trident regrouped, the two chapters were on their way to reinforce nearby systems under siege by the Traitor Legions. The two chapters encountered Grous refugees and saying that an Astartes chapter refused to retreat. The system died with many refugee ships were caught by tyranids. When the chaptered reunited with one another as many of the companies were cut off from one another around the city, many had their armour heavily scarred and ruined with a number with missing limbs and destroyed even their colour scheme was even scratched off to just silver. With many chapter ships onced full of battle brothers now seemed almost empty with the 3rd company only having one survivor. When the chapter regrouped and re-armed and travel with the two other chapters to deal with large-scale xeno attacks.
  • 13th Black Crusade (999.M41) - While Abaddon and his forces were assaulting Cadia and nearby systems, a unknown Chapter Master informed Chapter Master Tercal Norith about chaos Warbands assaulting nearby systems and Norith discovered the Oranthi system was near the assaulted area. Norith ordered all companies to reinforce the Oranthi and nearby systems. When the Great rift opened up the entire chapter with exceptions of the 1st company was trapped in the Dark Imperium. With the chapter unable to contact their 1st they thought them dead thinking the warp engulfed them. The same with the Rust Guard with Norith thinking he killed his chapter and brothers.
  • Battle for the Fell Stone (001.M42)- Within the first weeks of the 42nd Millennium, while all of the Emperor's Trident Chapter regrouped at their homeworld, Oranthi was invaded by a large warband of the vile Emperor's Children Traitor Legion. The battle was fierce with heavy losses sustained on both sides. As the battle was at its fiercest, numerous warp portals opened in the Fell Stone, causing several Daemons of Slaanesh to pour into the Fortress-Monastery. The warp portals were only able to be closed when the majority of the chapter's Librarians sacrificed themselves by using their psychic minds to close the portals. This cut off the Heretic Astartes' daemonic reinforcements which allowed the Emperor's Tridents to push back the traitor's assault on the Fortress-Monastery. The Warden Velsar and his personal bodyguards dueled against a vile Keeper of Secrets known as Alnth'slthys. While Velsar was able to banish the Greater Daemon back to the warp, it was at the cost of his bodyguards, slain-to-the-last, by the foul creature. Even with the portals closed many daemons were still present within the Fell Stone. The Neverborn filled almost every level of the fortress-monastery, with very few levels secured by the Emperor's Trident. In their desperation, the Chapter awoke all of their Dreadnoughts to help bolster their defences. Then the chapter serfs rang a large bell at the highest point which attracted the undead creatures known as the Drowned Men. The Drowned Men took the Emperor's Children off-guard and in their distraction the Emperor's Trident assaulted the traitors with their dreadnoughts leading the charge. When the Fell Stone was taken back, the Traitors' plan was realised when the gene-vaults of the chapter were found raided and all the Astartes that were tasked to guard it were all found butchered and mutilated. The chapter focused their efforts on purging the traitors on their planet. The chapter fleets emerged from their docking stations on the moon of Werlago and assaulted the traitor's fleet. As the battle on both the planet and the void raged on, many Trident ships were destroyed including the flagships of the 5th, 8th and 12th companies, respectively known as the the Unforgiving Wave, Kraken's Heart and the Call of Sorrow. What happened next, was through the combined efforts of Oranthi Clans and the chapter working together, the Imperial defenders were able to finally push back the darkness. After the traitors were forced off-planet, the chapter went on to reclaim several lost worlds.
  • Reclamation Crusade (019.M42) - The Reclamation Crusade was a campaign that was undertaken by the Emperor's Trident as a part of the much larger Indomitus Crusade. This campaign took place in the isolated Reanoth Sector, which was cut off by the turbulent eddies of the recently opened tear in reality, known as the Great Rift, which allowed the Neverborn from the Immaterium, daemonic legions and various warbands of Heretic Astartes to spill forth and begin laying siege to thousand of Imperial worlds. This campaign would be waged by the Chapter for 80 years, with many of the worlds they came across as being dead worlds - too late to save from the encroaching Forces of Chaos which had already assailed these doomed worlds - leaving them broken husks and barren, surrounded by the energy of the Warp. The few surviving worlds that were found in this isolated region of the galaxy were protected with furious zeal by the Chapter, who faced constant attacks by both daemons and Heretic Astartes warbands. Despite the war of attrition, in the end, the Chapter successfully defended these beleaguered worlds at great personal cost in battle-brothers' lives.
  • The Void Child (Unknown Date.M42) - Sometime during the Reclamation Crusade a Child was born by serfs on the vessel known as Siren's Call, a child being born is nothing special as Oranthi culture encourages large families but the child was an extremely powerful psyker something that all the crew members including the Librarians on the ship felt as if a hammer hit them in the head, even psykers on Oranthi felt the child's psychic touch. A few months after the child's birth a warband belong to the Thousand Sons attacked the vessel seeking to take the child. The Void battle was fierce as pieces of each ship broke of from their ships, it wasn't until the boarding actions from the Thousand Sons seeming endless number of Rubrics and Tzaangors entered the ship. The Emperor's Tridents managed to hold them off for a number weeks until ammunition started to become rare. With the Thousand Sons continuing to gain footholds at great cost the Emperor's Tridents were tactically withdrawing to more advantageous positions and sometimes closing off parts of the ship to halt the traitor's charge, during these engagements the child was being passed off by humans and Astartes alike, moving the child deeper and deeper in more fortified sections of the ship. When the Astartes and humans that carried the child were cornered the Librarian and Captain of the vessel dueled the Exalted Sorcerer who was leading the Warband, the surviving Emperor's Tridents started to converge on the Captain's location to assist him. The Librarian was killed and the captain was gravely injured but had the severed head of the Sorcerer in his hand. Even with the death of the Warband's leader, the Tzaangor's and the Rubricae still held footholds within the ship. It wasn't until the sister-ship of Siren's Call, known as Scyllas' Hunger, came crashing into the enemy ship and boarded the heretic's vessel as it was assumed that most of the Traitor Astartes were currently on the Siren's Call. After days of attacking and purging the Thousand Sons were defeated and the child was saved. After the engagement both ships returned to Oranthi for their fallen's Funerary Rites and for the Librarium to examine the Void Child.
  • Indomitus Crusade (081.M41) - At the end of the Reclamation Crusade the Emperor's Trident joined the Indomitus Crusade fighting alongside their primaris brothers.

Chapter Homeworld[]

Oranthi[]

Class: Ocean/Death World

Affiliation: Imperium

Population: 912 million (former), 334,000,000 (current)

Tithe Grade: Adeptus Non (officially)

Segmentum: Ultima

System: Oranthian System

Sector: Reanoth (Near the Ghoul Stars)

Sub-Sector: Nomis

The planet of Oranthi is a world where it is nearly night most of the year and some rare times sunlight can pierce the clouds, this is seen as a omen of the Emperor, the world has tens of thousands of islands of various sizes surrounding the entire planet with one continent on the planet. With the native human population using primitive ships to travel there are a large number of hostile aquatic creates from the gigantic armoured crustacean simply known as a Murder Crab, the numerous and small flesh rippers, the unnerving and undead warp-tainted corpses known as“Drowned Men”, to the rare and extremely dangerous Hell Leviathan. The planetary ruling class is divided into clans or houses with each house further divided into noble families with lesser houses swearing Oaths of loyalty to the greater houses. The current ruling house and by extension the governor of the planet is Serena Vorrow of the Vorrow clan.

Home-world Culture: The native human population has taken to a more raiding culture as their planet contains small islands and few large landmasses. The population is divided in numerous warring clans, with each clan using either primitive boats or advanced hovering platforms, the native populations use these ships to hunt dangerous creatures native to their homeworld to feed their people or raid other ships/islands for currency, slaves, or any kind of loot. The largest clan Serantios who have sent very little recruits to the Emperor's Trident chapter only doing so when pressured or raided by chapter forces forcefully taking potential recruits to the Fell Stone. Each clan fights with each other for territory, loot, and glory. These ships can differ vastly from primitive wooden ships with flint based weaponry to rare hovering platforms armed with advanced weapons with some crazed individuals mounting weapons used for star-ships.

So far the most common ships used by clans are heavy bolter mounted ships made with certain metals native to the planet along with plasteel and ceramite with lowest ranked crew armed with bolt-action las guns with other ranks armed with rare power weapons, auto-guns, quality las guns to bolt guns. The native population do make scythes attached to the ship via a chain as a powerful grappling device usually with a hooked/barbed barbed blade as to hook into prey/ships. The Oranthi people have always been very protective of their homeworld when it comes to anyone and many oranthian people have a hard time trusting outsiders.

The "Star of Twilight" is when the sunlight of their dying star shines down on the dark world. Children who miraculously survive are given tattoo of predatory jaws on their lower jaws so everyone can see their curse. Oranthi culture is heavily based on rites and ceremonies, with each rite and ceremonies rewarded with Oranthi tattoo. Oranthi Culture has a huge priority on family and continuing the line, because of this most families are huge with parents having many children. Oranthi culture also has a strong emphasis on respect, even rival clans/houses must show at least some respect to each other. Elders and parents are ones that respect must be given, even astartes show respect to elderly Oranthians, respect is even attached to Oranthian honor. Oranthi Culture is very warlike and militaristic on the account of the many dangerous sea creatures that lurk under the ocean, every year the closest thing to Oranthi scientists discover dozens of new species of sea life with many being considered dangerous.

The largest continent is called by the locals as Senthalia, on the continent resides a number of fortress cities each connected via numerous tram lines. The fortress cities are known as Jesser, Muudia, Casie, Furden, and Khesi .These cities have stood against the evil that has attacked Oranthi since the Dark Age of Technology which is known as "Hyllethi Khaj an Fovephus". These cities have traces of the ancient culture, language, and traditions of their ancient ancestors that originally colonized this world. Some relics of the ancient colonists have survived time and time again from the terrors in the void. Some of these include five old bells that ring on special occasions, a statue of the planet's first governor Andrew Sollin, the remains of a personal transport vehicle, and the "Sleeping Hunter" a large machine that has long been damaged beyond repair who stands on a large pedestal placed on the stairs of the governor's palace. The fortress city of Furden was raided by Drukhari raiders after many years of trying to break the city the walls fell near the end of the 39th Millennium and its people were at the mercy of the cruel xenos. In the current millennium Furden has become a ghost city where mutants and brave exiles make it their home. The city of Jesser has the biggest port on the planet which is used by the Emperor's Trident chapter, Oranthi Imperial Guard regiments, and traders. The most notable part of Jesser is the Dark Crystal statues on both sides of the great road of both human and Astartes of Oranthi's heroes.

The Oranthi have two groups, Islanders and Cities Dwellers. The bigger chunk of the population are called Islanders who are more superstitious while city Dwellers shrug off these superstitions and are more disciplined. Both are untrustworthy to each other unless a common enemy threatens them.

When a Oranthi has broken the laws of a fortress city they are casted out into the continent where roving gangs hunt dangerous creatures and other gangs for territory, loot, and food. Occasionally the Reavers gangs hunt down the green skins that have crashed onto their homeworld and keep the Ork'z population small enough so the planet won't be invested with the alien.

Homeworld Traditions[]

The Oranthi people have a number of traditions, especially those involving the rites of manhood, where boys are sent into the mountains where they have to hunt a mountain wolf and sometimes the whole pack. The Oranthi people have made guardsmen regiments even though the planet never needs to make guardsmen regiments but due to Oranthi culture Oranthi has been allowed by the High Lords to make no more than 50 regiments at one time.

Oranthi's Moons[]

Sor'Yin[]

Sor'Yin is splendid Shrine World where the people are zealous to the extreme hunting down the numerous mutant armies that are scattered around their home-moon. The people of Sor'Yin see the Oranthi people as well as the people living on the dozens of moons as heretics. Sor'Yin has declared numerous wars and crusades against Oranthi as the Oranthi people are the most dangerous compared to the other populations in system. Many guardsmen regiments of Sor'Yin practice suicidal bayonet charges and suicide bombings. The Sor'Yin have stopped invading Oranthi when the Emperor's Trident made Oranthi as their homeworld and Oranthi has stopped invading Sor'Yin.

Teranci[]

Planetary Terrain: The planet Teranci is a world of hardship for the planet’s surface is almost covered in snow and ice with 400 generators on the outside of the planet, old underground ruins that housed Teranci’s first colonists are now abandoned and decaying with the inhabitants untouched for thousands of years. The generators that are scattered throughout the planet are large heat vents that dig deep into the planet's core that keep warm local settlements and small cities that hold the planets human inhabitants. The locals spend most of their day in hard labour mining precious resources both for trade as well as to power their giant generators. Of the 400 generators on the planet, only 152 are still active.

The last census on Teranci gave the moons population just over one million people. The most terrifying aspect of the planet is not the fauna but the weather, the weather on average is -60 degrees celsius but one thing above all is feared by the locals and that is the Howling End. The Howling End is a massive storm that plummet the temperature beyond its normal rate and the fact that large ice chunks are forced out of its spot and glide against the winds for hours to months. An unfortunate soul trapped in the storm will have a extremely high likelihood of being bludgeoned, stabbed, or eviscerated by flying ice chunks

Fauna and Flora: The Tunneling Hyscorn, this creature is almost the exclusive food source of the Teranci people due to its tremendous size that it could feed half a generator city. The only way the Teranci people can get food is to form large hunting party armed to the teeth with Heavy bolter teams and even using some tanks and making use of rock-grinders units to dig into nest as well as loaders to carry the beast back to a city.

Rort: The Rort is a type of herd animal that are numerous and found throughout the planet and feeds only a plant that somehow grows beneath the snow that is sometimes farmed by the locals. The Hyscorn preys on the Rort who feeds on the plant.

Jotalesh:[]

Jotalesh was a former mining colony, the moon was destroyed by a Emperor's Children warband during the Battle for the Fell Stone. While the planet broke apart and its population died the planet's remains are still mined so that the mining colonists death were not in vain

Werlago:[]

This moon is the primary housing of Trident ships when a company returns home. The moon of Werlago was also used as a trading port for nearby planets and systems. Werlago's Ports were heavily damaged during the Battle of the Fell Stone.

Hepherosh:[]

Hepherosh is covered in dense jungle that is used as training grounds for the scouts of the 14th Company before they are sent out into battle

Zerom:[]

Zerom is a Ork controlled world that the Emperor's Trident Reserve Companies of the 12th and 13th use as training in combating the GreenSkins as well as tactics that involve boarding actions when the Orkz try to leave the planet.

Chapter Organisation[]

Chapter Command[]

The current Chapter Master of the Emperor's Tridents is Tercal Norith.

Specialist Ranks[]

  • Lantern Bearers - Lantern Bearers are a few selected chaplains that are used during funerary services of fallen serfs and battle brothers.
  • Warden - The Emperor’s Trident do keep +Data Expunged+ that have been deemed too dangerous by the council of Chaplains with the most devoted battle-brother of the 1st Company being chosen to guard them, unknowingly passing every test without the battle-brother knowing it, until the chaplains induct them and announce him as the Warden. The Battle-Brother Velsar is a veteran among veterans and elder among elders and was chosen to be the Warden tasked to watch over the chapter's secrets and destroy them if necessary. The Warden watches them all permanently stationed in the Fell Stone.
  • Rust Guard - The Rust Guard are the warriors within the 1st Company given the honour of wearing rare Terminator plate into battle. The honorable 1st Company are deadly warriors and their armour shows it, each terminator plate looks more like cracked stone than clean metal. The rust color trim seems to expanded on the armour to give the appearance of rust spreading over the dark teal. The terminator reliquary has a large number of both old and new lighting claws, the claws wet with saltwater. The Rust Guard decorate themselves with long purity seals that are rolled around their armour's limbs, called purity scrolls, as well as various trophies and extra attachments to their armour such as teeth put through rope, capes, purity seals, and various other pieces.
  • Tech Lord/Forge Master: The Tech-Lord is the Emperor's Tridents version of a Master of the Forge in other chapters. The Tech Lord watches over the forge of the chapter.
  • The Lost 39- This group is the 39 Veterans Terminators that went missing during the Victory of Ethecan, With each victory feast the chapter partakes in a song is sung by the Tridents and the serfs describing that the Lost 39 haven't been forgotten and that they will be found one day, the song has been spread far where the chapter goes with hundreds of planets singing the song of the Lost 39 on top of Oranthi songs that the chapter shared. Most of the chapter believes the Lost 39 are still alive even in the 42nd Millennium

Order of Battle[]

Headquarters[]

Companies[]

Chapter Recruitment[]

Rites of Initiations[]

Like many rites and ceremonies of Oranthi for the many boys of the planet hunt local Mountain Wolves spread out across the planet to fully become a man a similar rite takes place to prove to the chapter of worthy recruits is sending small groups of boys on ships to hunt for “Ridge Gliders” and large reptile that glides on the rocks of the islands. The men that fight this creature need to be weary of the Glider’s defense mechanism o spray boiling hot water from a fresh water pouch as well as its blades wings that can decapitate the careless and noisy.

Aspirant Trials[]

When the survivors of the Ridge Glider hunt group up they are then sent back to their villages and are to await the next trials. The Trials of the Deep are a collection of Rites when those children who survived the Ridge Glider are deemed worthy to go on to the Trials of the Deep. Most children who survive the Ridge Glider are then sent back to their villages are then discussed by Astartes and chapter serfs and deem those who are worthy to become a Trident of the Emperor, those who are deemed worthy are then invited to go on to further trials and those who are not deemed worthy live their lives normally.

The first Trial of the Deep is takes place on a small island with a large bell in a center tower. When the bell clangs it attracts Drowned Men and creatures who are able to go ashore, the aspirants must work together with the assortment of weapons and forged a bond of brotherhood, cooperation, and strategy in order to survive. The second trial involves going on a raid. The third trial involves ritualistic dueling between each other to the death. The fourth trial involves dueling an astartes for a certain time, and at times depending on the number of aspirants they might fight alone or sometimes in a group while they might fight a single astartes or three or five, of course very few aspirants will be able to beat full astartes but the supervisor and the astartes dueling the aspirants will test them see their tactics, fighting skills and survivability.

Each trial has a high mortality rate with thousands of aspirants in the first trial and many either die or deemed not worthy and are sent back to their clans until only a handful remain. The final trial is conquering the depths of the deep that has caused grief to all Oranthi people since the firsts day of their ancestors colonization, The few aspirants that are worthy of the Lost Blade trial are given a spear and Chapter Gladius and are expected to dive into the depths and hunt. All are given breathing apparatuses so they can stay in the water for long periods of time. During Chapter Master Tercal Norith’s time in the final trial he was swallowed whole by a Titan Shark he survived by eating the carcasses of the sharks prey and was forced to live in the creature's body for weeks when the creature died and became beached he then violently exited the shark's stomach with a broken gladius. He terrified the villagers who were sent to examine the carcass as he emerged from the creature.

Time as a Neophyte[]

When a Aspirant becomes a Neophyte they are given a gladius with the craftsmanship and design originating from the Neophyte’s clan. Before Neophytes are given a taste of combat against the enemies of Mankind they must hunt down a cave a nest of Eviscerators Spiders, each neophyte squad must work together in order to bring down a Eviscerator and take its head to the Fell Stone.

When a Neophyte completes his trials he and his squad will travel to the planet's only continent called Senthalia, there they will travel to the planet's safest fortress city of Jesser. While at Jesser the generation of Neophytes will embark on a parade down the cities main road to the waiting Thunder-Hawks to take them to Astartes ship waiting in Orbit. While in the parade the Neophytes will walk along-side with the Oranthi Guard Regiments who are also being sent into the void to bring the Emperor's righteous fury.

Erioch Armoury

A veteran Astartes of the Emperor's Trident going through the Fell Stone armoury to store his war-gear to participate in the Lost Blade Trials.

The Lost Blade Trials[]

Every once in a while the chapter will begin a ceremony called "The Lost Blade" Trials in reference to the blades of every initiate/neophyte that has died in the coastline/waters around the Fell Stone during their initiation trials. This ceremony begins with a random number of veterans taking part in the trial, then the veterans start with a honour duel between all veterans. After half of the brothers are defeated in the duels, the second trial begins when the winning duelists are taken to the end of the coast of the Fell Stone led by the High Chaplain the area of water chosen by the High Chaplain are then surveyed by chapter serf to make sure the area is safe for this trial, occasionally the astartes will have to fight a local predatory sometimes armed or bare-handed. When the second trial begins when the volunteers dive into the waters of their homeworld, the requirements are to dig up a blade of a fallen aspirant that died during their trials. When they find a blade. The second trial can go for a few hours to a week and only the first ten can go on to the next trial, The battle brothers who complete this task are then led to the Fell Stone and placed in a maze like arena with water slowly rising, when two brothers find each other they must duel until one is rendered unconscious. The true goal is to find a way out of the maze, when a battle brother is rendered unconscious chapter serfs quickly find the astartes and takes them out of the maze as to avoid an unnecessary death by drowning. This trial ends until only five battle brothers remain, these five are then sent to the death-watch with their armour adorned with a tusk crafted in the shape of a small shield of a oceanic creature of their water showing their badge proving they took on the Trials of the Lost Blade.

Chapter Beliefs[]

The chapter believes strongly in honor and a sense of duty in the face of adversity. Due to the raiding style of the chapters homeworld the battle brothers excel in boarding actions and being boarded. Due to some superstitions of the Oranthian people including the belief of being unlucky being away from sea-water, many trident ships have Oranthian salt water in certain sections of the ship as well as many if not all Battle Brothers have small capsules filled with the salt wateron their persons at all times. The assault company paint their shoulders red as a artful representation of spilt blood, if a battle brother dishonors himself from a multitude of reasons he will be sent to the assault company and will only be equipped with a double handed chainsword, if there are enough of these men then they will be put into a squad unimaginatively named "Son's Dishonored". Out of all the xenos the Emperor Tridents have fought many share the opinion that the T'au are the worst of all, as High Chaplain Yergon puts it, "It's horrible when the enemy takes our citizens as slaves. It's worse when a population are seduced by their honeyed words and fights for their banners."

The art of Teeth Crafting is an ancient and feral practiced on Oranthi where a fallen enemy would have his teeth collected and fashioned into a necklace for their killer's trophy as the ancient oranthi belief thought the spirit of the fallen could never talk or feast with his/her ancestors for the rest of eternity, when the Emperor's Trident were still new they practiced such a belief and so collected the teeth of orkz, eldar, chaos, and other enemies. Like the belief on Oranthi the tradition within the chapter was becoming less and less practiced until the tradition was completely abandoned in the beginning of the 37th Millennium. However with the integration of their Primaris brothers the tradition has been revived in from these new warriors.

Chapter Traditions[]

The chapter have a number of traditions most come from one tribe or another of the Chapter's homeworld, these traditions can vary such as collecting the pelts of a dangerous predator, collecting the teeth of fallen enemies, and other types of recollecting glory or trophies, ritual branding or tattooing, with the latter being somewhat popular. If a warrior recalls a battle that gave him glory then he can mark it with the runes of his planet on his battleplate or even on his flesh. Whenever a battle-brother dies their individual squad mates will put what are known as "loss marks' with their names combined with complex patterns to honor their fallen squad-mates as to show that they’re mourning their brothers. Loss marks are only used when a brother dies and the loss marks..

The Emperor's Trident do also make use of raiding or war markings, when chapter goes on a raid such the uprising of the Joad System they will put a Oranthi raiding or war markings somewhere on their helmet or their shoulders, if the raid was something of great importance or wage war on a notable battlefield a battle brother can mark it on their skin. When a Neophyte/ Aspirant completes their trials they will be led by Chaplain and a Apothecary where the “Lord of Scouts” will be waiting next to a crystalline statue of the Emperor wielding a powerful trident fighting The Diasorlor with the Scouts kneeling and swearing an oath to the Emperor or "Lord of Light" or more commonly "The Sea Lord", and the Scouts will utter the phrase, "By the Lord of the Depths I will search the endless sea of the void and will hunt down the traitor, heretic, and the xeno.."

When a battle-brother falls in combat his remains are placed in a ornate Sarcophogus. Their deeds and glories etched onto the stone, unless given to another battle-brother after death all of the Warrior's trophies and trinkets placed in his sarcophagus and brought down to the lowest level within the Fell Stone, there heavy robed serfs put the fallen battle brother in with the rest of their fallen. For most of the time the lowest level is submerged in the cold depths and is only drained when they add on to the mortuary or to add more coffins.

The Long Rest is when a company, individuals, or dreadnoughts are sent back to their home-world of Oranthi to recuperate back at their Fortress-Monastery. While on their way to Oranthi the battle-brothers go into a deep sleep while the Chaplain speaks prayers of the Emperor and the Librarian who is also in deep sleep connects to all of his Brother's Minds. When they arrive on Oranthi, Individuals can train, visit their village and clan, teaching scouts about the xenos they. Some brothers even take to taking a scout under their wing in hopes of making them better members of the chapter.

A great honour within the chapter is having the permission to have a large trident engraved on their chest-plate . When the battle-brother is allowed to add such an honor he can choose from a number of metals and minerals, such as Platinum, Adamantium, Dark Crystals, Silver, Gold, or more.

Dreadnought Entombment[]

When a member of the chapter has proven worthy of being interred into a dreadnought sarcophagus he is then occasionally switched between ships as part of their rotations. When enough rotations have been achieved they achieve what the Chapter calls The Long Rest which is when a company or a few worthy individuals travel back to Oranthi for recuperation.

Chapter Gene-Seed[]

The Emperor's Trident Chapter seem to have a malfunction in their Melanchromic Organ leading to the pale skin common to nearly every battle-brother in the chapter, similar to the mutations of native Oranthians. Also the entirety of their eyes are black. Due to the Emperor's Trident homeworld having almost the entire year in darkness the humans of the planet are sensitive to light compared to standard humans, this carries over to many Oranthi born battle brother as they wear advanced googles when they is unhelmed while on different worlds, while non oranthi battle brothers eyes become entirely black though their eyes are not as sensitive to light.

Primarch's Curse: The Wasting[]

This is a gene-seed mutation where individual battle brothers are unable to gain most nutrients from most food and drinks. This makes the afflicted battle brothers get weaker and weaker until either dying or forcibly put into sleep-like coma hooked up and constantly being fed nutrients. Chapter Apothecaries and medical serfs search for a cure has been unsuccessful.

To try to avoid the effects of the Wasting the chapter have constant feasts as well as eating something regularly, if a battle brother misses even from one meal they're at risk of the Wasting. Battle-brothers on their free time learn ways on cooking various meats and vegetables both from Oranthi and other worlds.

Combat Doctrine[]

The Fell Stone[]

The Fell Stone is the Fortress Monastery on the world of Oranthi, the fortress itself is a combination of the brutal yet beautiful culture of Oranthi. It is said that every pillar in the fell stone is held up by a stone Mermelith a rumor of human hybrids with the fish tail that can swim to the depths of the sea, the center of the Fell Stone is a large room with banners of the most notable battles and those sacred to the chapter such as a thirty-nine banners of the Lost 39 for each and every terminator lost to the Drukhari as well as the personal banner of Solruc Aruthican the chapter's most sacred dreadnought. Like in the bridge of the Diasorlor there is a pedestal with a hovering orb that resembles the planet of oranthi with the landmasses and oceans, Within the large room are the trophies of the current Chapter Master with their personal prized trophy placed on top of his throne. Within this room has a few relics from the ancient colony vessel with the permission of the Mechanicus such as an ancient aquatic suit whos helmet appearance has been adapted to a few helmets, or a shard of the weapon that has been said that the Lord of the Sea more commonlt called the Emperor on other worlds used to slay the Diasorlor. Another relic includes what seems like a probe that most likely informed humanity that Oranthi could support human life.

In the deepest parts of the Fell Stone is the catacombs. When a battle brother or serf dies they are placed into coffins where their deeds, honors, dishonors, glories, and various achievements are etched into the coffin

Notable Battle-Brothers[]

  • Chapter Master Tercal Norith: Tercal Norith is the current Chapter Master of the Chapter, carrying the only Cataphractii armour in the chapter. With him he carries Ocean's Fury a deadly power trident. Norith like many of his brothers was born on Oranthi and learned his culture and clan traditions which he still follows as the last living member of his clan. Norith spent centuries as the second in commmand of the chapter when Hurvol Orun was Chapter Master as was there when Chapter Master Orun fell in battle against a Iron Warrior Warband. When Norith became Chapter Master he ordered the most powerful clans to a temporary cease fire to better defend themselves to the high number of Dark Eldar raid that have been been a plague since the Age of Strife, this only partly worked as the various clans hated each other almost as much as the Dark Eldar with raids and clan warfare continuing again. During the Tyranid invasion of the Grous system Norith was critically wounded in battle with the 3rd company taking heavy losses to secure him and the loss of one of their Venerable Dreadnought Ocerraok Velthor "The Son of the Siren". Norith is a great strategist and politician with some engagements being avoided between secessionist governors and the chapter by Norith having a conversation with them and at the end of the conversation ending with the governor swearing the planet's allegiance to the Imperium once again. Those who still refused don't live long to regret their actions.
  • (Former) Chapter Master Hurvol Orun: Hurvol was the former Chapter Master of the Emperor's Trident was a fierce and honorable warrior who was also a skilled duelist. Hurvol was leading chapter for over 500 years before meeting his end at the hands of a Iron Warriors champion, during a duel between him and the Iron Warrior the champion used underhanded tactics that ended the Chapter Master's life. When he fell the champion took Ocean's Fury as a trophy, this act quickly enraged the 1st Company for killing their Chapter Master and now taking their most Sacred relic, they hunted down and purged every Iron Warrior. During Hurvol Oruns funeral the 1st company chained the helmet of every slain Iron Warrior to Hurvol Orun's burial coffin.
  • 1st Company Battle Brother Irisodn Almatae (Rust Guard): Considered the third in line for the title of Chapter Master, Irisodn is a giant of a space marine that even makes him wearing terminator plate somewhat uncomfortable for him. Irisodn carries a pair of Power Axes with names in old Oranthi known as Slossi and Da'emei. Irisodn is known as a butcher and that title is universally agreed with the younger members of the chapter. While the Great Rift torn through Galaxy Irisodn was out on The Long Rest, During the Battle of the Fell Stone Irisodn was isolated in the Fortress Monastery's Catacombs and had to fight alone the Emperor's Children, while his brothers were defending a few holdouts.
  • (Former) 1st Company Battle Brother Tairanden (Rust Guard) "The Lost 39": Brother Tairanden was one of the Terminators that went missing during a teleportation assault on the Dark Eldar vessel during the Victory of Ethecan.
  • High Chaplain Yergon
  • Chief Apothecary Bersis Otenn
  • Chief Librarian: Johe Alderos
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Velsar "The Warden"
  • 1st Company Battle Brother Vearoleth Kolb "Deairodek", The Savior in Oranthi (Rust Guard): Vearoleth is a apothecary clad in ancient Terminator-plate, Vearoleth is the blood brother of Ancasof Kolb who is also in the Rust Guard.
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Ancasof Kolb (Rust Guard) - Ancasof is man held in high regard by his fellow battle-brothers and is commonly seen fighting next to Tercal Norith in the thickest of battle. His dedication and loyalty to his lord is such, that he jumped in front of a plasma cannon blast to protect his Chapter Master from harm, leaving Ancasof on the verge of death. As a result of his serious injuries he sustained from the plasma blast he has a large patch of scorched skin around his left eye socket and his missing left eye. He also has a large hole in his left cheek as well. Most of his body is either covered in heavy scorch marks or to badly damaged and replaced with cybernetics. Ancasof has repeatedly refused Chief Apothecary Bersis Otenn's requests at giving him a bionic eye and patching up the hole in his cheek. When asked, each time Ancasof has said that he has not earned the right to a bionic eye because he said that he hasn't earned the right to "optional" repair.
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Solten Faov (Rust Guard) - One of the few surviving children that are born under the "Star of Twilight" and even fewer to live long enough to go through space marine trials. Usually children born under the "Star of Twilight" are put to death as those children are considered cursed and the surviving children receive the tattoo of predatory jaws. Solten Faov faced a hard childhood as he was pushed around and sometimes hunted. Solten spent countless nights evading small groups of thugs belonging to a small noble house that was his former family, to purge the curse out of their bloodline. Solten was able to kill the gang one by one and killed many of his former family members, which cause the extinction of that noble house. An undercover chapter serf took notice of this remarkable child and then quickly abducted him. Solten faced more adversity during his trials and is currently the only loyal "Twilight Child" as all Twilight children that become Astartes have all been corrupted by the insidious touch of the Ruinous Powers and turned traitor.
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Therol Vassks (Rust Guard)
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Malicas Helsov "The Unbreakable" (Rust Guard) - Malicas was just a scout when he became enslaved by the sadistic Drukhari and kept as a tortured pet for uncounted number of decades to the Archon of the Kabal that plagued Oranthi. What Malicas endured was unspeakably and left him a tortured husk . When the 1st Company boarded the Kabal's flagship with the intention of rescuing captured slaves of Oranthi they found Malicas and immediately freed him. As soon as they freed him Malicas went into a frenzy and grabbed a nearby sword and charged to the bridge of the ship killing all in his way. When he found the Archon, he battled her for a full day, within that battle he lost both of his arms and had one of his legs badly damaged. Critically injured, the Archon made the mistake of kneeling and gloat over her fallen adversary. This proved to be her undoing. The duel ended when Malicas mauled the Archon's throat with his teeth. Tercal Norith personally promoted Malicas into the ranks of the elite Rust Guard for his endurance. Malicas is a man of few words and is commonly called one of the 'Four Fangs' of the Chapter, with the other three fangs being brothers Ancasof Kolb, Velsar, and Chapter Master Tercal Norith. Malicas is both respected and feared amongst his brothers. Malicas is never seen without his power-sword Reaper's Heart and his Master-Crafted StormBolter, Siren's Kiss, it has been said that whenever the weapon has been empty of bolter rounds a faint laugh is heard similar to that of a human female.
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Belsorn Khal
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Onthrol (deceased)
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Letheric (Deceased)
  • 1st Company Battle-Brother Tairanc Olosiom (Rust Guard)
  • Librarian Untiao (Deceased)
Pharoden Iygris
  • Chapter Champion Pharoden Iygris "Knight of the Deep": Pharoden Iygris hails from clan Kelrik a particularly brutal clan, It is said that Pharoden earned the chapter's attention by slaying over one hundred warriors on a hilltop with just a dull sword and his fists. The chapter even allowed that his lover become a serf if he survived the gene-seed augmentations. Having besting all the trials with ease the Recruitment Sergeant wanted him to know a true challenge and so Pharoden was forced to face a battle brother alone with both only armed with a chapter gladius. While Pharoden was unable to best the astartes warrior he managed to puncture one of the Astarte's hearts and managed to sever part of his hand. Rare enough that he manage to survive even if it was just barely he was able to deal enough damage to the warrior that much of the neophyte company sergeant's respected him as a warrior. To the chapter it was clear that he was a skilled swordsman and that talent kept improving. The chapter keeping their word allowed Pharoden's former lover Irisa Valik the chance to become a chapter serf to Pharoden, as the years progressed Pharoden earned the title of "Knight of the Deep" and soon after that earned the rank of chapter champion after the former champion wished it so and soon falling in battle at Yoten's Graves by the Warlord Ulliac the Corruptor of the Wraith Claws during the Signs of Brotherhood . During the battle against the Chaos warband Tercal Norith named him chapter champion and tasked him to recovers his blade from Ulliac, Pharoden lead a small strike team to recover the blade, as the battle was beginning to end Pharoden entered the stronghold of three chapters blade in hand and dragging the armless, screaming Ulliac. Pharoden wields a power blade called "Fury of Salidur" in honor of the former champion that burns as hot as a newborn star and wielding a master crafted Combi-flamer bolter known as "Draakonis" the oranthi word for Dragon into battle and wearing his honorifics on his Artificer armour to show the enemy the fury of the Emperor's Tridents.
  • 3rd Company Captain: Zertoa Averic: Zertoa is the current captain of the 3rd company, having proven himself during the chapter's first encounter with the Tyranids upon the hive world of Ba'heka IV by finding out the xenos weak spots and vulnerabilities . While the hive was under attack the company boarded enemy and hit the enemy at the gates causing many tyranid forces to converge on the chapter rather than the planet allowing the inhabitants some time to put up defenses and wait for reinforcements. Zertoa admitted that they only survived because it was a weakened splinter fleet and if it was any stronger in any way they would surely have perished.

  • Contemptor Dreadnought Solruc Aruthican "The Reaping Serpent" - Aruthican is the most revered member of the Chapter. Even Tercal Norith bends his knee to him when the mighty dreadnought is in his presence. Most of Aruthican's past is unknown and forgotten, but many battle-brothers in chapter cannot recall a time in its history where Solruc Aruthican has not served as a member of the chapter. Aruthican has the skull of a predatory creature of Oranthi mounted upon one of his massive shoulders and the gorget of his dreadnought hull has a creature's lower jaw around it. Even as a dreadnought, Aruthican is a dangerous adversary, even being separated from his brothers, he is still a dangerous warrior. Charging into battle with his plasma cannon and his massive dreadnought clawed gauntlet, cleaving through enemy ranks leaving a trail of gore whereever he goes.
  • Venerable Dreadnought Raphio Saphrik: Raphio was a member of the 3rd Company that was given the honor of receiving The Long Rest, while he was visiting his clan in the far north. While conversing with his members of his family teaching them how better gear and weapons a large contingent of Drowned Men assaulted their island. Raphio and his clan quickly mustered a defensive barrage against the undead warp creatures. During this engagement the clan unleashed massive horned Usrins that the clan used as weapons. During this engagement Raphio used himself and a few volunteers as a distraction to allow time for his clan to evacuate the island to a nearby ally clan. Raphio along with his volunteers fought to the last man on top. As Raphio was critically wounded by a rusty axe wound the ThunderHawk "Storm of Thorns" assaulted the undead horde and a squad of Astartes encircled the wounded men and battle-brother. The leader of the squad was Velsar the Warden who came to inform Raphio that his rest was ending, impressed with his formidable defense and ambition to protect his people he authorized Raphio to be interred into a Dreadnought Sarcophogus.
  • Venerable Dreadnought Oceraok Velthor "The Son of the Siren": Former member of the 2nd Company before being put into a Dreadnought.
  • Death Watch Oridon: Currently stationed with the Deathwatch at Watch Station Erioch.
  • Veth Tyberon "The Ice Father"

Notable Serfs[]

  • Fovora Thenn: Fovora is the oldest living serf in the chapter, because of her old age she is heavily respected by her masters and she her as an equal as well as having certain privileges that others cannot have. In the chapter there are serf families and each family tends to a single squad. Currently, Fovora is assigned to the 3rd Company where she guides her family on how to properly repair and maintain their master's war gear.

Chapter Fleet[]

  • The Diasorlor (Unknown Class Battleship) - The Diasorlor is the chapter's mighty flagship, it's name derived from a supposed mythical creature native to the chapter's homeworld. The Diasorlor is a monster of a ship with small parts of the ship having pools of salt water from massive oceans that cover Oranthi, some water going from knee length to waist deep, with one pool even going 12 feet deep. Like every ship owned by the Emperor's Trident Chapter, the Diasorlor has a large great hall with a massive table made from the bones of the largest Hell Leviathans ever recorded in the Chapter's history. The Hell Leviathan was twice the size of the Fell Stone, which took the combined efforts of two chapter companies as well as the cooperation of every clan, sending powerful ships to deal with their aggressor. The great hall is called the 'A'thohoan' in their native tongue, every A'thohoan on every Trident ship is where great feasts take place, with battle-brothers, chapter serfs, and notable crew members are invited and treat each other like equals. During the feast the Chapter's Chaplains solemnly list off the names of fallen battle-brothers, chapter serfs, and notable crew that have died in service to the Emperor and the Imperium. For any battle-brother outside of the 1st Company to be invited to The Diasorlor for a feast is considered the second greatest honour next to being in the 1st Company itself. It is common knowledge that every Trident ship has a great hall housing the skulls of great creatures the chapter has had difficulty putting down. These include various tyranids, subspecies of kroot, heads of fierce T'au warriors as well as the heads of their battlesuits, abominations created by the Drukhari as well as Drukhari warriors, creatures native to Oranthio, heads of daemons of all four gods, many heads of Ork Warbosses, hundreds of Traitor Astartes heads, Necron heads and many unknown xenos the Chapter has fought against down the long millennia.
  • Dauntless Fable (Strike Cruiser)- This Strike Cruiser was estimated being built during the Great Crusade, The Emperor's Tridents found this ship destroyed circling a nearby planet. When it was recovered the Chapter took it to their moon of Werlago to repair it in secret, the tech marines then searched the ship for anything. They found pale armor with its banners and heraldry smashed and torn. The chapter had recovered a number of ancient mark 2 and 3 war-plate as well as ancient bolters. This Strike Cruiser is now an irreplaceable piece of the Emperor's Trident fleet.

  • Medusa's Veil (Strike Cruiser) - Named in honour of those Iron Hands the Emperor's Trident fought alongside to halt an incursion comprised of a large force of Drukhari raiders. The name is a fitting tribute to those Iron Hands that died alongside the Emperor's Trident. The name symbolizes that the Iron Hands homeworld is mourning the loss of her sons.

With all surviving war-gear, relics, trophies, and banners containing names of campaigns that these inhabitants took part in have been returned to the chapter. Notable Crew members and Battle Brothers have been exclaiming that something is off about this ship and strange things happen on the ship. A Chaplain of the chapter has told Chapter Master Tercal Norith that the ship must be destroyed and its remains hurled in a star, each request has been denied by the Chapter Master.

Chapter Armorium[]

Unique Equipment[]

  • Void Hardened Armour - As void warfare specialists, the Emperor's Trident often make use of void-hardened armour, specially customised and augmented suits of power armour that has been modified by the Chapter's Techmarines to better withstand the rigours of line breaker assaults, lethal environments and close-quarter boarding actions in space. The drawback of using this kind of modified armour is that the servos and power systems of such armour are often over-strained as a result of these modifications, and require constant extensive maintenance between battles.
Orinthian-Pattern Bolter

Orinthian-Pattern Bolter

  • Orinthian Pattern Bolter - This unique pattern of bolter has been optimised for use in void warfare and boarding operations. Of special note is the attached combat blade and integrated harpoon array. The latter, is a crude but unique weapon which enables a battle-brother to get within close proximity of an enemy on the battlefield. This unique device consists of a body-mounted launcher (above the barrel) and a projectile which is a harpoon with an explosive (penthrite) charge, attached to a thick steel cable. When fired, these lances puncture home into the armour and limbs of an unfortunate victim. Once impaled, the harpoon becomes active, locking to their prey's ravaged insides with sharp spikes on the spearhead, preventing the harpoon from sliding out. This deadly weapon is not simply launched to cripple, it is fired to claim prey. With malicious slowness, an Emperor's Trident battle-brother can then recall its spear. The lance then begins to ratchet back towards the Astartes that fired it, dragging home its victim to within reach of his fellow battle-brothers' melee weapons, where they are butchered in a hail of blood. A secondary function of these harpoons is that they can be utilised as a 'last chance' device during boarding operations. Should a battle-brother have the misfortune of being blown into the vacuum of space, they can fire the harpoon into an enemy vessel's bulkhead, and then utilise their bolter's harpoon array to reel themselves back to safety.
Orinthian Power Sword

Orinthian 'Shark Tooth'-Pattern Power Sword

  • Orinthian 'Shark Tooth'-Pattern Power Sword - These deadly blades are master-crafted power swords utilised exclusively by the Emperor's Trident. The serrated edges of these blades allows a strong enough warrior to immobilise an enemy for his comrades to deliver a killing blow or inflict even ruinous injuries by withdrawing the blade from the wound. These jagged wounds are more difficult to close, increasing the fatality rate. Even if the victim manages to survive the fight, they usually die afterwards from extreme blood loss - a benefit from a murderous perspective. The serrated edge also allows a warrior to hold an enemy's weapon in place or even disarm them.
  • Volkite Weapons - There are rumours amongst the Chapter that they also possess a small number of relic Volkite Weapons. These archaic and very rare weapons date back thousands of years to the Age of Strife. They possess considerable killing power surpassing most armaments of their size. During the Great Crusade era, these weapons were difficult to manufacture, event for the most able of forges. On the modern era battlefields of the 42nd Millennium, they are all but unseen, except by those few ancient Chapters that still maintain a stockpile of these relic weapons within their armouries. How the Emperor's Trident managed to obtain such obscure and deadly weapons is unknown.

Chapter Relics[]

  • Oceans' Fury - A unique power weapon taking the shape of an ancient terran trident, every chapter master is given this Relic to show their authority. When Chapter Master Oruns fell in battle and Oceans' Fury was taken by the Iron Warriors' chaos lord as a trophy the entire first company fell into unmatcher rage purging the Iron Warriors warband down to the last man stalking them both in the void and on planets stalking the warband for months when the Iron Warriors were in full retreat. The Power Trident middle blade is a gladius blade and the two outer barbs are curved blades. The middle blade is longer with a spear-tip than the outer two blades acting as axes. The staff of the trident is lined with dark hyper conducive crystals and bolts of lightning circling the trident.
  • Chevarion Chain-Axes - While the forge world that resides in the same system of the Emperor's Trident homeworld of Oranthi, the tech-priests categorizes this chain-axe variant as a Chevaron pattern. Due to the Oranthian accent the Emperor's Trident call it Chevarion. While most parts of this pattern is of standard parts, the Chevarion pattern does make the axe head more curved on the ends as well as having the chain of the axe able to spin fast with little to no problem. One curious design choice that was placed in a few of these chain-axes is its ability to spew salt water from small parts of the axe head. If a heretic somehow survives an attack from this pattern of axe the salt-water will cause more pain so the Astartes can have more time to kill him and any other heretic. The axe-head does have ornate patterns of gold and silver, with later designs added on from the owner's request. The salt-water tank in the chain-axe has no real use aside from the joy an Emperor's Trident gets using it against the enemies of man.
  • Tyberith's Fury: Tyberith's Fury is a relic belonging to an unknown chapter of Adeptus Astartes the only knowledge of this chapter was that they are successors of the Ultramarines. This relic was given as a gift to the Emperor's Trident for their valiant attack and immedient defence when the unknown chapter captain was grievously injured in battle and the Emperor's Trident assaulted the enemy to give their ally time to secure their Captain. The blade is described as having dark iron as the hilt and the cleanest steel for the blade, a gem of the purest Sapphire has been put on each side of the crossguard with ornate patterns etched into the blade.
  • The Salt Spear: The Salt Spear, known also as the Spear of Salt, is a power Spear of unknown pattern is currently being used by 4th Company Captain Nocumek. The Spear itself has been told to cause immense pain no matter the injury to all that have had skin contact by this relic weapon. The Spear originally belonged to 2nd Company Oceraok before being interred in a dreadnought sarcophagus.
  • Hunger: This Heavy-Bolter is a relic that is as old as Ocean's Fury, when this bolter is fire the sound it makes a similar to a large creature roaring. The front of the Heavy Bolter has the jaws of a unknown creature, with the top and bottom of the front piece resembling that of a creature with a permanent open maw forever a slave to hunger.
  • Siren's Kiss: This chapter relic is a Master-Crafted Storm Bolter with ornate designs upon the weapon. It has been said that whenever the weapon has been empty of bolter rounds a faint laugh is heard similar to that of a human female. This weapon is currently being used by 1st Company Battle Brother Malicas Helsov.

Chapter Appearance[]

Chapter Colours[]

The Emperor's Trident primarily wear dark teal coloured battle-plate with deep rust coloured shoulder pauldron trim. The Aquila or the Imperialis on the chest guard is also a deep rust colour. Unlike other more Codex-oriented Chapters, the Emperor's Trident do somewhat adhere to the tenants of these esteemed tome, by stenciling squad specialist markings on their right shoulder pauldron. However, they have chosen to utilise the unique heraldic system of their homeworld instead of the standard markings of the Codex. This squad specialist marking identifies an individual battle-brother's assigned role (Tactical, Devastator, Assault and Veteran). The Chapter also utilises the numeric system of their homeworld, stenciling a white coloured number on the right shoulder pauldron inset to identify squad assignment, and on the left poelyn (knee guard) to identify company assignment. The Chapter's assault company traditionally paint their shoulder pauldrons red to represent spilt blood.

The 'Rust Guard' (the Chapter's Terminator-armoured elite) have the trim of their battle-plate painted a deep rust colour and have this same colour spread from their gauntlets to the couter (elbow guard) and from the sabaton (foot armour) to the poleyn (knee guard). The symbolism of this colour spreading across their battle-plate symbolises the turning of age, and identifies these ancient warriors as the veteran elite of their Chapter - hence, their namesake - the 'Rust Guard'. The Trident Dreadnoughts are painted in exactly opposite of the Chapter's usual colour scheme - painting the entirety of their dreadnought plate a deep rust colour with their trim painted a dark teal colour.

The battle-plate worn by the Space Marines of this Chapter typically bear syncretic iconography, denoting rank and battlefield record. Many of these symbols have been taken from the Oranthi culture, their meanings hidden to outsiders to the Chapter, though Imperial scholars believe that the numeration of the Oranthian glyph markings stenciled on the right shoulder pauldron of the Astartes of the Emperor's Trident refer to attested "kills" against worthy opponents in single combat in increasing order of magnitude.

Chapter Badge[]

The Emperor's Trident Chapter badge consists of a deep rust coloured radiant trident wrapped in chains and crowned by an iron halo, centered on a field of teal.

Emperor's Children[]

Armorial of the Emperor's Children Traitor Legion.

The Emperor's Children are the newest enemies to the Emperor's Tridents chapter, during the Battle for the Fell Stone the Gene-Seed vaults and some chapter relics were raided by the Emperor's Children. With only the smallest of fractions of reserve gene-seed left and the devastating losses during the battle made the chapter desperate going so far as to hunt the surviving war-band to get back what was stolen from them.
