No finer cavalry are found around the Ishtar Subsector than the Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments and their Wyrm Riders. They are the best the Astra Militarum of Ishtar has to offer, and they form the breakwater defense needed to continue Imperial interests. On the training moon of Verliaus, the academies of war train the best and brightest of the Fringe if not the sector. Heavily fortified' with every terrain available for training, the programs of Verliaus know no bounds. Veralius has come to be a renowned academic world, where scholars, specialists, and soldiers from across the sub-sector go to study, and it is also home to numerous Schola Progenium facilities. It is here among the populace of the training moon that the elite regiments of the Lunar Venatorii are raised, equipped with the finest of gear and trained at the finest of academies. The Regiment's officers even travel downwards to Tarakon and engage in the sacred ritual of wyrm-bonding, earning their right to command regiments of Venatorii and becoming honorary members of House Fásacha. Indeed it is the Venatorii that often accompany the Knights of House Fásacha in battle to deal with the most dire threats to the frontier, as well as fighting the bloody battles of expansion.

Orbiting Tarakon is the Civilized Moon of Veralius, whose surface is studded with the many edifices and colleges concerning the academia of war. The people of Veralius have long been tied to Tarakon for which they orbit, and they too have taken upon many aspects of the Wyrm. They have sought to embody its natural keen intellect and wisdom, as well as its merciless ability to slay all those who offend its honor. To this end, Veralius has long been a source of additional warriors for House Fáscha, separate from the House and its traditions, but highly valued nevertheless as cunning scouts and keen warriors with which to defend against the dark predators slinking form the void. With the arrival of the Imperium, Veralius built across its landscape renowned colleges and institutions of war, its peoples immersing themselves in the arts of battle and the warrior ethos of the Wyrm. The Adminsitratum quickly built Schola Facilities up from these war colleges, again separate from the peoples of Tarakon, but drawing upon their hard-earned wisdom. Soon Veralius became a major School facility in the region, producing many fine officers, beauracrats, sororities, commissars, and storm troopers gathered from the orphaned scions of the Imperium. Yet still the Veralius war colleges produced their own soldiers with their own proud lineage and killing edge. These warriors became known as the Veralian Lunar Venatorii. Each a warrior-born, trained from childhood by the warrior colleges, with the ethos of the Wyrm and a love for the Emperor becoming their creed.

Mjorn did not fall to notice these proud and capable warriors, and again seized the opportunity. From Mjorn, the Lunar Venatorii would be given the best of wargear, and outfitted with war machines to fully enable them to act as keen scouts and relentless hunters as instilled upon them by their long cavalry traditions. Yet instead of the horses native to Veralius, these mounts would be of metal and smoke and fire, and mount mighty weapons of death. Mjorn would also instill in them an appreciation for the technological theatre of war, and soon the War Colleges taught selected students to act as the Vox-Adepts, masters at manipulating vox systems to help allies and to hinder the foe. After all, a foe that is blind, deaf, and unable to speak is much easier to hunt and slay. Mjorn would frequently also send Transmechanics, either at the request of the Munitorum or of their own volition to aid the Signals and Communications companies of the Venatorii, bringing their own secret and arcane knowledge of communications systems to occlude the senses of the foe and to improve their own. The Lunar Venatorii would swiftly begin sending troops to aid the forces of Mjorn and House Fáscha in exploring the fringes and the wilderness, although plenty of capable and determined warriors were left for the Munitorum’s tithes. Those that were tithed were raised to form the Veralian Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments, where their honed skills, warrior ethos, top-notch equipment, and knack for reconnaissance and vox-warfare would make them highly capable, and much sought after, forces in the eyes of the Munitorum’s General’s Staff.

The War Colleges of Veralius do not just produce the able warriors of the Venatorii, however, from prestigious schools also come forth elite pilots. These pilots serve to protect Veralius from attack, and are also prized support for Mjorn’s Explorator Fleets. The Administratum is also keen to capitalize on this resource, and these pilots are selected and raised as Aeronautica Imperialis Wings, flying their aircraft to defend the Imperium. The local Munitorum prizes these elite air wings greatly, and it is not unusual for the Munitorum to take advantage of pairing them in theatre with the Lunar Venatorii, whether it is to be seconded to regiments to create Air Cavalry Regiments, or to fly independently to offer close air support. Where the Warriors and Pilots of the Veralius War Colleges [are] bought [to] make war, the foe will surely fall.

Venatorii Academia[]

Lunar Venatorii are disciplined, elite soldiers who fight without hesitation until their orders are fulfilled. Commanders of the Lunar Venatorii are harsh yet inspiring leaders who ensure that every military objective is achieved -- no matter the cost. Without the iron-willed resolution of both, the Imperium would be severely weakened in its darkest hour. As well as being the elite wing of the Astra Militarum in Ishtar, the Lunar Venatorii is the training ground for the Imperium's finest martial operatives in Cavalry and Armor outside of the legendary Adeptus Astartes. It works alongside the Schola Progenium, whose facilities are governed by the Ecclesiarchy, to provide key Imperial institutions with the best recruits the galaxy can provide.

The death rate amongst each year group of recruits is high, for the Venatorii Academia is as merciless as it is efficient. After three standard years of intense physical and mental conditioning, those who survive their training are assigned to a Lunar Venatorii regiment. From that point on they are issued with the very best of equipment and resources the arsenals of Verliaus can provide. In return they are expected to give their lives in the service of the Imperium and to obey the orders of their superiors without hesitation, no matter the horrors that confront them.

Lunar Venatorii are highly trained in the use of numerous heavy weapons, and are entrusted with special equipment of high quality and rare craftsmanship such as their Hellguns and Hotshot Lasguns, which are much more powerful versions of the normal Lasgun used by regular Guardsmen. They wear Carapace Armor and helmets sealed for hazardous environments. This armour also deflects and absorbs incoming projectiles far better than standard Imperial Guard Flak Armour. Lunar Venatorii are also given minor biological modifications to allow them to move quickly despite their heavier gear. Lunar Venatorii sergeants often wield rare and powerful equipment more commonly used by Imperial Guard officers such as Power Swords and hot-shot Laspistols.

Lunar Venatorii Cadets are divided by age to form training groups that will ultimately form the basis of their full battle regiments, to maintain a sense of brotherhood. Group sizes can start off as large as several hundred at any one time, though those who would not make worthy servants of the Imperium are quickly weeded out, and are not seen again by their classmates. A select part of the graduates did not move onto the regiment proper but to the support arm as beast masters and trainers. To make the truly elite able to operate behind the lines for time of campaigns the lords who raise the formations made sure to make them able to train and pick up their own recruits to replenish the numbers in the regiment.

Military exercises with live ammunition are conducted in the harsh landscape surrounding a Schola Progenium or on nearby moons. Lunar Venatorii are often expected to endure solar days in the wilderness with little food or instruction, and limited weaponry with which to combat whatever violent fauna roams the planet. Yet with each roaming day, cadets improve in their performance. Their speed and endurance increase, they scale walls previously thought impossible to overcome, and it becomes obvious to even a novice instructor that true warriors are being forged. It is a strong belief within the Venatorii Academia that from the hottest of fires, the strongest bonds of brotherhood are born.

Unlike the Schola Progenium, however individuality is encouraged as well as thinking on the battlefield. A Lunar Venatorii is expected to operate him or herself with and without support, further they are to know how to cause the most damage to enemy while operating as thus. Further Lunar Venatorii are provided Gene Therapy by their Techpriest benefactors to enhance the already highly trained force further.

Lunar Venatorii Commanders[]

Description
Lunar Venatorii Colonel Insignia A Colonel is the commander of a Lunar Venatorii Regiment and is always chosen from the most proven Wyrm Riders of the Lunar Venatorii having earned the right to the title Sealgair. Sealgair is a minor noble of Tarakon who succeeded in bonding with a Tarakonian Wyrm. Only these fierce commanders are allowed to lead the Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments and are granted the rank of Colonel. These true leaders of men and women are not recruited or designated. They are instead created by circumstance, indelible spirits tempered by loss and hardship upon the fields of war. The presence of a beloved Colonel at the forefront can mean the difference between a unit standing firm or collapsing, the troopers fighting to emulate him or simply to protect him from the enemy's attentions.
Lunar Venatorii Marshal Insignia A special type of Battalion commander is a Marshal, the commander of a Lunar Venatorii Rider Battalion and they are second highest ranking in a Regiment.
Lunar Venatorii Lieutenant Colonel Insignia A Lieutenant Colonel is a commander of a Lunar Venatorii Battalion. Such leaders are neither recruited nor trained into the role. Rather, they are born in the fires of war, their parent being adversity and their drill instructor necessity. Due to the spread nature of deployments for the Reconnaissance Role most Regiments of the Lunar Venatorii fill, in addition to their Regiment Commander the Lunar Venatorii has Battalion Commanders who perform a similar function while using the much smaller assets of a Battalion.
Lunar Venatorii Major Insignia A Major is a Second in command of a Lunar Venatorii Battalion or Regiment if not a Marshal is present in a regiment. Simply put, Majors tend to be those individuals who, when placed under extreme pressure, rise to the occasion and exceed their own, and often everyone else’s, expectations. Those regarded as Majors in the Lunar Venatorii are often expected to volunteer for the most arduous of duties. Many officers simply assume that this vanguard leader wishes to undertake the duty and so do not even ask him if he does. In other cases, the Major knows that he has no right, either moral or practical, to turn down any duty he is put forward for and that it is his lot in life to suffer in such a way.
Lunar Venatorii Captain Insignia A Captain is the commander of a Lunar Venatorii Line Company whether it is a Dragoon Company or a Company of Horse Cavalry these are the leaders who hold companies at the ready. Standing proud amid the blood and thunder of the front lines, Captains and Wing Leaders sets an unfaltering example to the men he leads. In the face of nightmarish foes, they must provide their men with a bulwark of unwavering courage and decisive leadership. Most are hard-bitten heroes, skilled combatants and pragmatic strategists whose first loyalty is to the Emperor of Mankind. Typically, each Captain is escorted in battle by a retinue of battle-scarred Veterans who support their leader in the field.
Lunar Venatorii Wing Leader Insignia Among the Captains are their Wyrm Rider counterparts who are Non-Commission and Commissioned Officers, this is the Wing Leader, commanders of a Wing of Wyrm Riders, Two Wing Leaders jointly command a Company of Wyrm Riders. Wing Leaders are either Commanders in rank if they are the senior moving to more command roles or Staff Sergeant in rank if moving more into roles of responsibility for Wyrm Riders
Lunar Venatorii Surgeon Captain Insignia A Surgeon Captain is the commander of a Lunar Venatorii Medical Company. These Commanders are not the front-line troop leaders of their counterparts. These are rare individuals who both have a flair for command as well as specialized skills and knowledge above and beyond the regular guardsmen. They are either expert battlefield surgeons who know exactly when and where to deploy their medical personnel or Specialists in a form of combat that is fought with more than just a lasgun or tanks.
Lunar Venatorii Master Warrant Officer Insignia The commander of a Lunar Venatorii Vox Warfare Company is a Master Warrant Officer. Master Warrant Officers are experts in the fields of Vox Communication as well as esteemed commanders of their sections. With specialized knowledge that only those of the Adeptus Mechanicus can beat, Master Warrant Officers know how to manipulate the warfare space in their field.
Lunar Venatorii Lieutenant Insignia A Lieutenant is a junior officer of the Lunar Venatorii who commands one of the platoons of a company. Their role is to ensure the platoon fulfils its Captain's orders and gets the job done. Trusted Lieutenants are to undertake more nuanced and vital missions -- gaining the high ground to outflank the enemy position or knocking out a heavily guarded shield generator so that artillery bombardments can commence. Like their Captains, Lieutenants are often accompanied by a hand-picked Platoon Command Squad who help them fulfill their duties.

Description
Lunar Venatorii Flight Leader Insignia A Flight Leader is the senior Wyrm Rider in a Regiment and Sergeant Major of the Regiment. Not a Commander, These combat veterans often find themselves in a leadership role, mentoring less-experienced troops and junior officers. They lead by example, inspiring courage and awe on the field of battle, instilling their wisdom and battle-field experience upon their subordinates -- and often their superiors as well. The Sergeant Major is the senior enlisted advisor and liaison to a regimental commanding officer or to an even higher-ranked Imperial Guard officer, and is the senior enlisted man for his entire regiment.
Lunar Venatorii Sergeant Insignia A Sergeant is a Squad Leader, They are the assigned leaders of individual squads and conduct much of the day-to-day training and operations within any platoon of an Imperial Guard regiment. These senior enlisted men and women typically have years of hard-earned combat and leadership experience, and tend to have a greater grasp of tactics and the necessities of competent command under fire than the average trooper. Due to their role as both leaders and instructors, Sergeants and Chief Warrant Officers in the Lunar Venatorii are expected to lead from the front, driving their men to feats of valour and glory, and setting a strong example for junior enlisted men and officers alike. A Staff Sergeant is the senior Sergeant in a platoon. They are usually assigned to the platoon's Command Squad. It is said that to hold the respect of the men in the squad he commands, a Sergeant of the Lunar Venatorii must be able to best any of them in a duel or drinking contest. While it seems unlikely that this always holds true in practice, the Guardsmen must have something to keep them busy between deployments. Venatorii Sergeants tend to have a good relationship with the men under their command.
Lunar Venatorii Corporal Insignia A Corporal is the non-commissioned officer of the Lunar Venatorii who serves as a second and aide to his squad Sergeant. He will also serve as a section leader during patrols or on sentry duty when the whole squad is spread out or not employed as a whole.
Lunar Venatorii Chief Warrant Officer Insignia A Chief Warrant Officer is a Section Leader of a Lunar Venatorii Medical Squad or Lunar Venatorii Vox Adept Squad. These specialist leaders fill in a similar role as a Sergeant but take a more specialized role in fore-filling the duties of their expertise.
Lunar Venatorii Warrant Officer Insignia A Warrant Officer is the lowest ranking Vox Adept or Medical Adept whose authority is equivalent as a Corporal even though they are not in the direct line of command or responsibility. Recognized as experts in their field will provide specialized guidance of their expertise and act as advisers to other squads or platoons if not maintaining their duties in specialized formations.

Specialties of Lunar Venatorii[]

Lunar Venatorii Operators[]

A skilled Lunar Venatorii is intimately familiar with the vehicles in his company (i.e. Tauros, Taurox, Leman Russ, Chimera, Super Heavy Tanks, HellHounds, etc.) -- he understands the strengths and weaknesses of each armament, the limitations of various engine patterns and the idiosyncrasies of every Machine Spirit. This allows him to wield his vehicles like a rapier or a battering ram depending on the needs of the battle. The Lunar Venatorii knows when to order his vehicles to launch full-throttle advances, moving to outflank the enemy position or dispersing to dilute incoming fire. Having lived through wars against the Imperium of Man's myriad foes, he can also identify weak spots in the enemy's armour towards which his company's gunners will direct their fire. To compel the might of the Astra Militarum's war machines is an awesome responsibility, for along with the lives of the soldiery a Lunar Venatorii Commander is also charged with responsibility for his regiment's mechanical assets -- a resource that is far more valuable and difficult to quickly replace.

This one-shot advantage in close combat makes them especially useful when deployed for hit-and-run tactics especially when combined with the Bolters and Storm Bolters mounted on their bikes. On Tarakon the honour of riding a Combat Bike to war is reserved for the elite Lunar Venatorii, warriors that have accumulated generations of cavalry experience.

Cavalry scouts master hit and run tactics as well as concealment techniques. Overtime they perform forward observing and tracking of enemy movements.

The riders' ability to create forward nests in challenging urban environments adds an additional layer of strategic advantage, serving as observation points and quick reaction positions.

The bond between a Wyrm Rider and their Tarakonian Wyrm goes beyond the physical; it is a fusion of consciousness and purpose. As these elite warriors soar through the tumultuous skies of the Ishtar Sub-Sector, they embody the ancient legacy of Tarakon, bringing both fear and awe to those who dare oppose the might of the Lunar Venatorii.

"You see this needle? If it's in the green, it means the machine spirit is dominant and in control of the surrounding area. However, when it goes into the yellow, another machine spirit has entered its territory and there is an ongoing feud between the two competing machine spirits. Turn this dial to feed more Motive Force for the machine spirit so that it might prevail and conquer the other one. However, if the needle goes into the red, the other machine spirit has gained superiority and you are compromised."

Lunar Venatorii also train number of highly technical specialists. These specialists depending on the specialty get hurried to the hush corridors maintained by the Mechanicus representatives of Verliaus. Of these are the famed Vox Adepts of the Lunar Venatorii, Electro-Vox Warfare requires an in-depth knowledge of the ins and outs of battlefield communication such as broadcast frequencies, electronic attack, cryptography, power generation, maintenance, and the dizzying array of communications gear fielded across the galaxy, electronic warfare is typically the purview of Operators, Tech-Priest Enginseers, and the occasional astute and tech-savvy Guardsman. No matter where they fight, these Guardsmen are equipped with some of the most sophisticated listening and broadcasting equipment issued by the Departmento Munitorum.

Mjorn trains Transmechanics under tutelage of the Archmagos primes to serve as Vox Warfare specialists instructors, sending some of these adepts to Veralius to aid in the creation of elite Vox warfare Lunar Venatorii Regiment elements. A Lunar Venatorii Vox Adept Operator is a rare specialist of the Imperial Guard who feels unusually comfortable around the Machine Spirits of the ancient devices utilised by the military forces of the Imperium of Man. These Guardsmen are laymen inducted into the lowest levels of worship of the Omnissiah and are entrusted with rites of use for this sensitive equipment. In the hierarchy of the Adeptus Mechanicus the highest one could go as a Vox Adept is Repair Mechanic as such is an Adept Inferior, barely above a Menial. But indeed they learn to worship the Omnissiah.

Lunar Venatorii Medical Adepts[]

They are trained as combat medics, fighting chirurgeons equally at home with a medi-kit as they are with a Lasgun. In battle, they stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their squad-mates, fighting with equal skill and fervour, and all the while patching, dosing, or administering the God-Emperor's Mercy to their brothers-in-arms. Going by many different names across the varying regiments of the Imperial Guard, Medics are put in charge of all medical gear and supplies sent to their squad by the Departmento Munitorum. Whether they receive simple bandages to wrap around las-wounds, or sophisticated combat-drugs and surgery kits, Medics are the ones who are entrusted with using this equipment to keep their squad healthy and prepared for combat. Many combat patrols, operating behind enemy lines for months, have stayed alive only due to the medical expertise of one of their squad-mates.

Some of these Medical Adepts specialize in the unique care required for the regiment's creatures, the Tarakonian Wyrms and Horses. Their expertise extends to providing tailored medical attention, ensuring the well-being and combat readiness of these vital assets. In addition to their roles as combat caregivers, others among the Lunar Venatorii Medical Adepts are assigned to manage functional genetic storage. This involves coordinating with the supporting Forge World in charge of a particular warzone, especially when operating beyond the range of Mjorn. These specialists ensure the maintenance the health and functionality of the Lunar Venatorii's unique assets, even in challenging operational environments.

Lunar Venatorii Beast Masters[]

In the esteemed ranks of the Lunar Venatorii, the role of Beast Masters holds paramount importance, overseeing the welfare, training, and readiness of the regiment's diverse array of mounts, including the formidable Tarakonian Wyrms and swift Horses. These non-combat specialists are instrumental in ensuring that the bond between the Wyrm Riders and their Wyrms remains unbroken, and that the Lunar Venatorii Horse Cavalry remains a force to be reckoned with.

Beast Masters dedicated to Wyrms undergo rigorous training and are selected based on their innate affinity with these majestic creatures. They play a crucial role in the bonding process between Sealgairs and their Wyrms. These specialists ensure the Wyrms' physical and mental well-being, executing a regimen of specialized training, dietary needs, and maintaining the unique mounting equipment that allows Wyrm Riders to soar through the skies in harmony with their draconic companions. For the Lunar Venatorii Horse Cavalry, Beast Masters are experts in the care and training of Horses, fostering a deep understanding of the animals' behaviors and needs. They specialize in equine training techniques, ensuring that the Horse Cavalry Troopers have reliable, agile mounts for scouting, hit-and-run attacks, and surviving in terrains unsuitable for mechanized warfare. These Beast Masters also maintain the specialized mounting equipment required for the Lunar Venatorii Horse Cavalry to operate effectively.

Beast Masters are responsible for the intricate equipment used in mounting and training both Wyrms and Horses. This includes crafting and maintaining harnesses, saddles, and other specialized gear tailored to the unique anatomy and requirements of each creature. They collaborate closely with the regiment's blacksmiths and artisans to ensure that every piece of equipment meets the highest standards of durability and functionality. Understanding the nutritional requirements of Wyrms and Horses is a critical aspect of the Beast Masters' responsibilities. They work closely with regimental nutritionists to develop specialized diets that enhance the physical condition, stamina, and overall health of these creatures. Whether it's the protein-rich diet for the Wyrms or the balanced nutrition needed by the Horses. In collaboration with Lunar Venatorii Medical Adepts specialized in veterinary care, Beast Masters ensure the health and well-being of the regiment's mounts. While Medical Adepts handle more advanced medical needs, Beast Masters provide day-to-day care, preventive measures, and respond to the unique challenges posed by the diverse environments in which the Lunar Venatorii operate.

Most go to the Schola but those that don't end up in the Venatorii Academia. A high number of Tarakon citizens transfer to Verliaus for the chance to be accepted in those hollowed halls for the Lunar Venatorii are known throughout for their personal honor and skill. From these academies emerge the elite Mechanized and Calvary Regiments of Tarakon system, the Lunar Venatorii who serve as some of the finest mortal troops within the Ishtar SubSector.

Lunar Venatorii Concept

The Lunar Venatorii doctrine is a masterful blend of mobility and tactical ingenuity, encompassing three key levels of warfare: tactical, operational, and strategic. These levels of mobility define the regiment's approach to warfare, enabling them to navigate the complexities of the battlefield with finesse.

At the tactical level, Lunar Venatorii demonstrate exceptional mobility, allowing them to move under fire and respond swiftly to sudden attacks. This agility is crucial for executing hit-and-run tactics, a cornerstone of their tactical doctrine. The regiment excels in flexible, noncommittal attacks, inflicting damage on targets and immediately withdrawing to avoid retaliation. This approach not only disrupts enemy defenses but also exposes weaknesses that can be exploited in subsequent maneuvers.

Operational mobility is harnessed to move men and materiel to the decisive point of battle. Lunar Venatorii's use of expert scouts and specialized light battalions exemplifies this operational mobility. These units range ahead of the main force, engaging in reconnaissance, launching surprise attacks, and setting traps to herd enemy forces into strategically disadvantageous positions. The heavier elements of the regiment then capitalize on these situations, executing ambushes from raised positions, ensuring they strike from advantageous angles.

Lunar Venatorii Plasma Gunner

Lunar Venatorii Plasma Gunner

Strategic mobility, the ability to move an army to the area of operations, is a hallmark of Lunar Venatorii's war strategy. They leverage strategic mobility to maneuver around high concentrations of enemy troops, execute spearhead attacks to cut enemy supply lines, and punch through weak points in the enemy's deployment. This strategic finesse enables them to capture key objectives and create chaos in enemy territory.

A central tenet of Lunar Venatorii's tactical doctrine is the judicious use of terrain and elevation. Light cavalry and mechanized elements aim to strike from above and where the enemy is least prepared, employing hit-and-run tactics to perfection. When facing a more formidable foe, such as Orks or melee-based opponents, the regiment employs variations of historical tactics like the Cantabrian circle. Mounted cavalry forms a rotating circle, firing at the enemy formation as they come around. This tactic, coupled with constant movement, disrupts enemy formations and draws them into disorganized charges, creating opportunities for the Venatorii to capitalize on.

The regiment's versatility extends to its heavier elements, where line-breaking tactics are employed with a 'hammer blow' strategy. Heavy battalions charge repeatedly while supported by light battalions, creating a self-perpetuating offensive force that keeps the enemy pinned until they break.

Lunar Venatorii's doctrine also includes unconventional warfare methods like Chevauchée and Guerre de Course. These are used strategically to weaken enemy resolve, discredit enemy governments, and disrupt logistics through raiding and pillaging enemy territory.

The regiment's emphasis on individuality and ingenuity is a distinguishing feature. Soldiers are encouraged to exhibit spontaneity and creativity, rewarded for their resourcefulness. This individuality contributes to the regiment's adaptability on the battlefield, allowing for quick reactions and outmaneuvering opponents.

Basecamps[]

The Lunar Venatorii Basecamps are meticulously designed operational hubs that embody the regiment's adaptability and self-reliance in the ever-changing theater of war. These basecamps serve as dynamic staging grounds, strategically positioned to support the diverse needs of the regiment's battalions and companies across various terrains.

At the core of each basecamp lies the Main Command Center, where the Sealgair orchestrates strategic decisions alongside key personnel. The modular and transportable nature of the basecamp allows for rapid deployment, catering to the hit-and-run tactics that define the Lunar Venatorii's approach to warfare. The layout includes logistics and maintenance areas to ensure the seamless flow of supplies, essential for sustained operations. Living quarters and barracks, personalized by troopers, foster camaraderie and a sense of belonging.

Defensive measures are integral to the design of Lunar Venatorii Basecamps. Sandbag barriers and camouflaged vehicle positions provide protection against potential threats, reflecting the regiment's commitment to security. Observation towers and concealed sniper nests strategically placed throughout the basecamp offer overwatch and early warning capabilities, enhancing the camp's defensive posture.

The Wyrm Stables, a distinctive feature, underscore the symbiotic relationship between the Lunar Venatorii and their Tarakonian Wyrms. These creatures play a pivotal role in reconnaissance, and Wyrm Wings establish Forward Recon Nests at elevated positions for superior vantage points. The inclusion of specialized areas for Vox Warfare and Medical Companies emphasizes the importance of efficient communication and medical support within the basecamp.

The networked approach extends to battalion and company-level basecamps, each tailored to the specific needs of its occupants. Light Battalions operate independently from Outposts or Scout Camps, specializing in rapid reconnaissance. Dragoon Companies and Air Cavalry Companies establish forward operating bases, such as Patrol Bases and Ambush Points, strategically positioned to cover key routes and disrupt enemy movements.

In defensive scenarios, the Lunar Venatorii Basecamps are fortified to withstand potential incursions. Sandbag barriers create defensive perimeters, and camouflaged positions are strategically chosen for maximum effectiveness. Troopers are trained to utilize the natural terrain to their advantage, enhancing the defensive capabilities of the basecamp.

Beyond defense, the basecamps play a crucial role in supporting various aspects of warfare. They serve as logistical hubs, ensuring a steady supply of ammunition, fuel, and provisions. Maintenance facilities allow for the repair and upkeep of vehicles and equipment, sustaining the operational readiness of the regiment. The adaptability of the basecamps enables the Lunar Venatorii to project force, control key terrain, and swiftly respond to emerging threats.

Main Basecamp[]

The Main Camps of the Lunar Venatorii serve as the central and largest basecamps within the regiment's network. These camps are the strategic core where the Sealgair, or Colonel, alongside the executive officer (Marshal) and sergeant major (Flight Leader), orchestrates high-level command decisions. The Main Camps house the regimental command center, a hub of activity where critical intelligence is processed, plans are devised, and orders are disseminated to the various battalions and companies. The Main Camp generally falls under the responsibility of the Support Battalion.

Strategically located in key positions, the Main Camps are designed for adaptability and rapid deployment. The layout is modular, with prefabricated structures that can be easily transported and assembled, allowing the Lunar Venatorii to establish a functional command center swiftly. These structures include the main command building, logistics hubs, maintenance facilities, barracks, and storage areas.

The Main Camps also feature a central Wyrm Stable, highlighting the significance of the Tarakonian Wyrms to the regiment's operations. The Wyrms are housed and cared for, ready for deployment in reconnaissance and rapid-response missions. The symbiotic relationship between the Lunar Venatorii and the Wyrms is evident in the integration of these formidable creatures into the very fabric of the Main Camp.

Living quarters within the Main Camps are personalized by troopers, adorned with memorabilia that reflects the diversity of backgrounds and experiences within the regiment. The mess hall serves as a communal space where troopers gather to share stories, fostering camaraderie and a sense of unity among the ranks.

Patrol Bases[]

Patrol Bases within the Lunar Venatorii's operational strategy are critical forward operating bases that extend the regiment's presence across expansive territories. These bases, established by the Light Battalions, serve as strategic outposts for reconnaissance, hit-and-run tactics, and early warning systems. Patrol Bases are strategically positioned to cover key routes, disrupt enemy movements, and gather vital intelligence.

The layout of Patrol Bases is designed to facilitate rapid deployment and mobility, aligning with the regiment's nomadic and adaptable nature. Clusters of modular structures form the core of these bases. These structures are prefabricated and transportable, allowing the Lunar Venatorii to establish temporary forward positions in various terrains. Defensive measures at Patrol Bases are tailored to the nature of their missions.

Patrol Bases are also equipped with communication centers to maintain secure and seamless coordination with the Main Camp and other outlying bases. This connectivity ensures that intelligence gathered on the front lines can be rapidly transmitted to higher command for analysis and decision-making.

These bases play a crucial role in the Lunar Venatorii's operational strategy, acting as the eyes and ears of the regiment in the field. Troopers stationed at Patrol Bases are adept at stealth and reconnaissance missions, using their mobility and knowledge of the terrain to gather information on enemy movements.

Scout Camps[]

Company-level scout camps, established by the Lunar Venatorii's Light Battalions, serve as advanced forward operating bases with a focus on reconnaissance, swift maneuvers, and decentralized operations. These camps are strategically positioned to cover specific areas of operations, allowing the regiment to maintain a pervasive presence across the battlefield. Defensive measures at company-level scout camps are tailored to the agile and independent nature of the Light Battalions. The camps are designed to be inconspicuous, blending with the natural surroundings to avoid detection by enemy forces.

Communication centers within these camps ensure seamless coordination with higher command, neighboring units, and other scout camps. The interconnected network allows for the swift transmission of intelligence and facilitates collaborative efforts between different elements of the regiment. In summary, company-level scout camps are advanced forward bases that support the Light Battalions in covering specific operational areas.

CenterRegimental TraditionsCenter[]

Over time, the Lunar Venatorii developed a personal culture of their own, a blend of frontier and strait-laced values that even retained vestiges of chivalry. Such hazardous work in isolated conditions also bred a tradition of self-dependence and individualism, with great value put on personal honesty, exemplified in songs and poetry. The code also included the Gunfighter, who sometimes followed a form of code duello, in order to solve disputes and duels Extrajudicial justice is common in the frontier, such as lynching, vigilantism and gunfighting. The nobility of feudal worlds, still riding off to prove their honor with primitive electro-lances influence heavily the culture of the Lunar Venatorii Regiments.

A code duello is a set of rules for a one-on-one combat, or duel. Codes duello regulate dueling and thus help prevent vendettas between families and other social factions. They ensure that non-violent means of reaching agreement be exhausted and that harm be reduced, both by limiting the terms of engagement and by providing medical care. Finally, they ensure that the proceedings have a number of witnesses. The witnesses could assure grieving members of factions of the fairness of the duel, and could help provide testimony if legal authorities become involved. Venatorii culture places high value on a man's ability to handle himself in a brawl, or with a gun.

The traditional culture of Lunar Venatorii has been called a "culture of honor", that is, a culture where people avoid intentionally offending others, and maintain a reputation for not accepting improper conduct by others. A theory as to why the Lunar Venatorii had or may have this culture is an assumed belief in retribution to enforce one's rights and deter depredation against one’s family, home and possessions. The Venatorii culture of honor is often tied to the relative persistence of dueling in the Venatorii, a cultural phenomenon in which special caution is taken to not offend others and misconduct is not taken lightly (dealt with swift and firm retribution). A high premium is placed on toughness in this culture of honor, because one is expected to defend one's resources and deter predators.

Their Attitude is culturally and socially aware. Lunar Venatorii question everything and anyone and then decide for themselves what they believe is true. This path to understanding yields different world views and opinions, but diversity is key to them. A Lunar Venatorii knows that the system isn’t in their favor, and the deck is stacked against you. With the numerous enemies of the unknown and the depredations of the Xeno encountered the Lunar Venatorii band for survival of their world and the worlds under their protection. Those things lose their perceived value and are discarded, but then this refuse can be re-purposed and used in ways that the original creators never would have imagined. In this way nothing is ever truly gone but re-purposed for one never know when what could have been discarded can be of use.

Lunar Venatorii's culture of honor and attitude of awareness means when they give their word to serve they serve. So when raising Lunar Venatorii Regiments each Trooper has an oath of fealty to the Battalion and regiment in a ceremony. One part of the oath of fealty included swearing to always remain faithful to the command appointed above them. The oath of fealty takes place after the act of homage, when, by the symbolic act of kneeling before the Sealgair and placing his hands on the ground before the Sealgair's Wyrm, the trooper became the "man" of the Sealgair. The Sealgair also promises to provide for the trooper in the manner of command and supplying him with the best the Selagair can find for the Regiment.

Newly Founded Regiments[]

Every Five to Ten years the Graduating Battalions are gathered in great commissioning ceremonies. Here the various classes in specific forms of Cavalry Maneuvers are combined and called Regiment. The Leadership is always selected among the Sealgair of surviving Lunar Venatorii Regiments who have been training the next Rider Battalion. From there the rest are assigned to the other three battalions of Cavalry.

The Regiment[]

A Light Cavalry Regiment:[]

Sealgair is a minor noble of Tarakon who succeeded in bonding with a Tarakonian Wyrm. These fierce commanders often lead the Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments and are granted the rank of Colonel. Primary mission of Light Cavalry is Rapid Reconnaissance as well as rapid redeployment of assets to perform flanking maneuvers. They also make extensive use of traps, mines and other unpleasant surprises. They use traps, spring mines, shredder mines and plasma charges, each specializing in killing certain types of troops. The most skilled Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Troopers are capable of launching deadly ambushes, remaining unseen in the foliage and appearing only when they want to attack. Light Cavalry regiments as a whole are also noted for its uncanny skill at stealth and reconnaissance missions. The soldiers of the Light Cavalry are excellent scouts, and as such are known to dress in cloaks made out of cameoline for camouflage.

The Light Cavalry Regiments of the Lunar Venatorii as analogous to some other world's Rapid Reconnaissance Regiments. The Mechanized Cavalry Scouts Battalions with permission from the Techpriests of Mjorn use Tauros and other rapid vehicles like the Venatorii class Combat bike to perform rapid reconnaissance for regiment with a Rider Battalion. Mounted on Scout Bikes, Scout Quads, and Tauros Rapid Assault Vehicles, they rapidly transverse across the battlefield and behind enemy lines, performing hit and run attacks on enemy units and armor, while reporting back to command enemy disposition and movements. Those forces not able to be dealt with regiment themselves are reported back to command, so that allied forces may ensure their destruction. They are particularly skilled at acting as forward air controllers for allied Aeronautica forces, their presence serving to enhance the accuracy and devastating effect of close air support and bombing missions.

An Air Cavalry Regiment:[]

The Colonel of an Air Cavalry Regiment leads the Infiltration and deep penetration specialists. Primary mission of Air Cavalry Regiment is Rapid Reconnaissance as well as rapid redeployment of assets over terrain to rough terrain that even the Light Cavalry cannot transverse quickly. The Lunar Venatorii Air Cavalry use grav-gliders to hunt swamp variants of wyrms in the valleys below their cities. This makes them fearless of altitudes and great at judging air currents. Their specialized abilities have found a home in the Lunar Venatorii where regiments drawn from Veralius act as elite Air Cavalry troops. These regiments' true advantage lies in their speed, unpredictability and the unrivaled ability to attack anywhere on the battlefield, at any time. Lunar Venatorii Air Cavalry are able to strike deep into enemy territory, and so are unable to field any heavy ground vehicles during missions. While this may be the case, the Venatorii do make use of a number of light vehicles including the Tauros rapid assault vehicle and the modified Drop Sentinel.

Elite Infantry in conjunction with riders on Scout Bikes, Scout Quads, and Tauros Rapid Assault Vehicles. They are supported by permanently seconded Aeronautica forces and operate behind enemy lines to observe the enemy, intercept vox messages, and report back to command. Once they have learned the secrets of the enemy, planted explosives detonate, while sniper and heavy weapons fire streaks into enemy forces. By the time the enemy recovers from its shock the regiment is once again mounted in its aircraft in order to once again insert themselves amongst the enemy.

Lunar Venatorii Dragoon Dismounted

The Dragoon Regiment sacrifices speed for firepower and personnel. Elite and highly trained infantry equipped with a variety of special and heavy weaponry and mounted within Chimera Personnel Carriers, as well as support Trojan Communication Vehicles, they rapidly maneuver from one point to another on the battlefield, destroying enemy armor and similar units, while at the same time manipulating and disrupting enemy communications so as to further increase the chaos and confusion they leave in their wake. When the Cavalry mean to hold a location, to Rapidly redeploy firing lines, or to break enemy lines. The perform the role of either Mechanized Infantry with Cavalry Tactics geared toward Armored Warfare or as Flankers and ambushers setting up areas of heavy firepower redeployed. They love to strike a killing blow at the heart of an enemy formation before returning to their own lines, prepared to pounce once more. The people of Veralius are extremely resourceful and pragmatic. They are patient, determined and utterly ferocious in pursuit of their enemies.

Similar to Mechanised Infantry of other worlds, Lunar Venatorii deploy Dragoons. Less common than line infantry, mechanised infantry serve as a fast-moving, hard-hitting force, pairing the utility of infantry with the speed and firepower of armoured vehicles. The availability of Chimera transports is the main limiting factor to the number of mechanised infantry units in any given warzone, and this rarity means that many mechanised infantry regiments are divided into a number of smaller Armoured Fist groups— single squads or platoons—attached to armoured regiments (to provide infantry support) and line infantry regiments (to provide a fast reserve or armoured vanguard). However, The Lunar Venatorii make them a part of greater regiments preferring to deploy them as battalion groups but when a whole regiment of fast and hard moving mounted soldiers are need the Dragoon Regiment is what is called for.

Armored Cavalry Regiment strikes a balance between speed and firepower known as Heavy Cavalry performing the heaviest of tasks given to Cavalry. Consisting Primarily of Leman Russ Conquerors, Leman Russ Vanquishers, Devil Dog Assault Tanks, and Pegasus Reconnaissance Vehicles, as well as Trojan Communications Vehicles. These Regiments act to "breakthrough" enemy lines, and then rapidly penetrate deep into enemy territory, merciless locating and destroying as many priority targets as possible before fighting their way back out to friendly lines once more, their selfless, some would say reckless, heroism, bravery, and sacrifice are legendary. Commanded by a Colonel that may be a Sealgair. They perform line breaking and Hunter Killer missions in the heaviest vehicles a regiment can call on. Light Cavalry[]

37th Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Regiment[]

The 37th Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Regiment, widely recognized as 'The Shadow Delvers,' had once stood proud with a near-full strength of around 2,500 men. Their renowned expertise in stealth tactics and advanced scouting made them an indispensable asset, often deployed far ahead of supply lines. However, their illustrious history took a harrowing turn when the Imperial response fleet, of which they were an integral part, exited the warp above the jungles of Cressia. In a catastrophic turn of events, the fleet suffered a debilitating malfunction, leaving behind a lone cruiser and the shattered remnants of other Militarum regiments. The crash landing in the perilous Eastern Wastes of Cressia saw the 37th Light Cavalry Regiment drastically reduced to a mere fifty or so surviving men.

Undeterred by the devastating circumstances, the resilient survivors of 'The Shadow Delvers' quickly established an Imperial foothold in the hostile Eastern Wastes. Determined to regroup with scattered regiments across the surrounding areas, they formed alliances with formidable allies, including the Imperial Sentinels Space Marine Chapter, the 1st Deltian Rangers, and the 8th Turas Scions. Wing Commander Derek Strugger[]

The senior Wing Commander of the 37th Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Regiment found himself in charge of the shattered remains of his regiment when everyone higher ranking than him died in the catastrophe that plagued the Imperial Cruiser that had delivered them to the Jungle planet of Cressia in the Hiemdall Subsector.

Eashan Houser de Sealgair[]

Of average height and weight, this brown haired Ishtar Fringe Worlder was far from home as a trade to the a Inquisitor while his Regiment had been out on deployment. During his time as a former member of the Lunar Venatorii Cavalry Regiments, he had been a vaunted Wyrm Rider bonded to a Wyrm of his own until while on mission for the Inquisitor, it was struck and killed by a Heretic Astartes years ago. Losing one's bonded Wyrm was one of the worst things that could happen to a Sealgair of the Tarakon. But instead of being returned to his Regiment and having to deal with the loss among his own, he was kept on as a promising Acolyte. For years before this he was considered a rising star in his Regiment's command structure but yet had attained officer rank. The time in the Academies on Verliaus has placed him among the elite of the Ishtar Fringes, his training was as long as any Storm Trooper of the Deltic Wolves but specialized to the Cavalry and Armory ways of war. Normal armament for Eashan included: Lucius Pattern Hellpistol, D'laku Crusade Pattern Hellgun w/ Whisper Bolt Discharger and Basic Telescopic Sight, 'Sulymann Holdout “Salvation” Auto Pistol, Wrist Sheathed - Wyrm Scale Dagger, Wyrm Claw Shortsword, Venatorii Carapace Battle Dress, Interkeratic Implants (Night Vision).

Armored Officers[]

Executive Officer Major Theophania Nightingale[]

An experienced Tank Commander. In the 225th Lunar Venatorii Heavy Cavalry Regiment, Colonel Hill commands from behind the lines from the mobile fortress. The de facto forward commander of the 225th is Major Nightingale.

Vox Adepts[]

Chief Warrant Officer Adahm Klerixus[]

Inquisitor Clarke

Adam Clarke as an Inquisitor

Adahm Klerixus was a Lunar Venatorii Vox Adept turned Cybernetics enhanced Magos Bodyguard and now serves as an Inquisitor of the Ordo Machinum. He is a member of the Contrador Conclave. A Radical of the Xeno Hybris faction of Inquisition in alliance with Xenarites of Incendius Lux that has migrated to the sector. Adahm is a very meticulous person who pursues his investigations much as he pursued the foes of the Imperium while a Lunar Venatorii and a servant of the Adeptus Mechanicus. He appears cold to people at first due to his extreme training, but after years of following a more senior Inquisitor, he has learned how to show some emotions. He makes use of stealth and infiltration tactics to hunt for his enemies much like the Reconnaissance tactics he used as part of the 412th Lunar Venatorii Air Cavalry Regiment The War Eagles. His personality is deeply logical, finding it difficult to form emotional bonds.

Chief Warrant Officer Groghe Bancroft[]

Lord Inquisitor Garant Farthy IV of Holy Terra, a Monodominant Puritan, found Groghe's original unit when it was staged inside an infested Hive as they scrambled an local amount of hive's blocks for days worth of communication, then when the 77th Lunar Venatorii Light Cavalry Regiment got attacked by heretics, Groghe performed feats of bravery defending his equipment until he had to destroy everything that wasn't mobile performing a daring with-drawl, rescuing his squad in the process, while denying valuable Intel to the enemy. Further when he made it back to base camp he revealed that he kept several key pieces of intel that would allow his unit to break into enemy transmissions. This allowed them to identify the Cult leader and his key personnel for a calculated strike against them that he participated in. It said that to hold the respect of the men in the squad he commands, a Sergeant of the Lunar Venatorii must be able to best any of them in a duel or drinking contest. While it seems unlikely that this always holds true in practice, the Guardsmen must have something to keep them busy between deployments. Venatorii Sergeants tend to have a good relationship with the men under their command. And this was especially true for Groghe. Groghe was noted by many to be a man who preferred to face challenges head on, rather than hide, He was also legendary for his vitality and ability to think ahead.

Other Officers[]

Standardized Equipment[]

The Lunar Venatorii make use of standard Astra Militarum equipment. All Lunar Venatorii are issued Venatorii Carapace Battle Dress and Mjorn Pattern M24 Hellpistol. Each job specification in the Lunar Venatorii then also get assigned additional weapons and equipment based on their role in the regiment.

Venatorii Carapace Battle Dress

  • Anti-Wicking Body Suit that extends up to jawline
  • Flak-Weave Combat Pants
  • Armored Gloves and traditional Cavalry Boots
  • Over these clothes are Carapace chest, back, and shin plates
  • Over the Carapace is a Flak-Weave Duster Coat w/ rank epaulets
  • Covering the head is a enclosed Rebreather Mask and traditional Cavalry Hat w/ rank braids
  • Over the Duster Coat is a Gear Bandolier w/ power packs, combat knife, frag grenades, uplifting primer, combat rations, and medical supplies
  • Standard-issue weapon is a Mjorn Pattern M24 Hellpistol in thigh holster
  • Mono-Knife - The Mono-Knife is a one-handed melee implement that is one variant of the ubiquitous back-up melee weapon for warriors all across the Imperium, be they lowly hive scum or the elite soldiers of a Planetary Governor. Some, such as the Catachan Fighting Knife, are designed for a specific purpose, whilst others are more generic in nature. Many if not all Lunar Venatorii Wyrm Riders use specially made knives made from Wyrm bone or Scale.
  • Micro-Bead - This short-range communication device is worn in the ear and is utilised for short-range communication (usually about one kilometre, depending on weather conditions and terrain). These devices fit securely and discretely in the ear and often cannot be detected by a casual inspection.
  • Magnoculars - Magnoculars are powerful vision aids that magnify distant objects. More advanced, high-quality magnoculars can also do such things as give range read-outs, detect heat sources, calculate target location positioning, and take pict-captures of a view for later analysis.
  • Poor Weather Gear
  • Saddle/Rucksack
  • Basic Toolkit
  • Mess Kit
  • Water Canteen
  • 4 week's Rations
  • Blanket & Sleeping Bag
  • Rechargeable Lamp Pack - Sturdy and reliable, these portable devices are used to help illuminate the darkness of a battlefield during inclement weather or occluded conditions, shining a highly luminescent, yellowish beam of light a dozen or so metres in width. A Lamp-Pack can be utilised for roughly five hours before its portable power pack needs to be recharged or replaced.
  • Grooming Kit

Sergeants additionally get assigned the grenades allotted to a Squad as well as carry a Ceres Pattern Bolt Carbines. - Bolt Carbines are typically easier to wield than full-size Boltguns, due to their lighter, simpler construction and lower rate of fire. Without the multi-round burst ability common to many patterns of Bolter, a Bolt Carbine is incapable of the wholesale slaughter that characterise volleys of Bolter fire. However, their simpler design means that they misfire less frequently and are much easier to maintain. This pattern of Bolter is intended to be used by normal humans and is sized accordingly.

Wyrm Riders, Mechanized Cavalry Scouts, and Horse Cavalry Trooper are armed with a Melta Tipped Hunting Lance in addition to their standard kit. Other tips for their lances are in inventory but are only used when the mission calls for it.

Vehicle Drivers and Crews, Sentinel Operators, and Vox Adepts pull only standard kit though the gunner of a crew can requisition additional weapons as needed for mission set. (i.e. Tauros, Taurox, Leman Russ, Chimera, Super Heavy Tanks, HellHounds, etc.)

The Line Troopers is armed with Mjorn Pattern M24 Hellpistol and a Mjorn Pattern M417 Hellgun.

Non-Standard Equipment[]

225th Lunar Venatorii Trooper

Lunar Venatorii Concept

The Lunar Venatorii posses a variety of non-standard equipment.

The Lunar Venatorii Troopers are known to carry extra arms and armament into the field as per their personalities. The specialist and standard equipment are provided to them. But many carry an array of Auto-weapons and blades as extra weaponry to help in a pinch. Most have an extra pistol or two, and almost everyone has a boot blade of some sort. The elite Wyrm Riders generally have blades and armor pieces created out of talons and scales broken off from their mounts.

Vehicle Patterns Used[]

Light Cavalry Patterns[]

Cavalry Scouts[]
Lunar Venatorii Warbike

Warbike that Lunar Venatorii Scouts favor

  • Venatorii-Class Combat Bikes are fast-moving ground vehicles capable of carrying up to one rider and usually mounting a light weapon. Bikes are used by several forces of the Imperium, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and Squats, among others, often for reconnaissance and rapid support roles. Certain Rough Rider units of the Imperial Guard use mechanical bikes as mounts; although much less robust and heavily armed than their Space Marine counterparts, these bikes are used in very similar roles.
  • The Tauros comes in two standard variants: the four-wheeled Tauros Rapid Assault Vehicle which serves as a long-range scout vehicle, mounting potent anti-personnel firepower in the form of either a Heavy Flamer or Tauros Grenade Launcher, and the six-wheeled and more heavily armed and armoured Tauros Venator. The Tauros Venator is a further modified version of the Tauros, the principle change being the replacement of the standard anti-infantry weapon with a twin set of heavier weapon such as Autocannons or Lascannons.
  • The Vanaheim Pattern of the Command Salamander is fitted with a multi-spectral surveyor as part of its overhead hatch. This advanced piece of equipment provides the vehicle with magnification, night vision, and tracking capabilities. The Salamander Command is armed with a Heavy Flamer in place of the Autocannon usually mounted on a Salamander.
  • The Armageddon Pattern Sentinel is armed with a Lascannon, one of the most effective anti-tank weapons the Imperial Guard possesses, and this pattern is used in a very effect anti-armour role. The canopy is also fully enclosed with armour plating.
  • The Mars Pattern Sentinel is armed with a Multi-Laser which is effective against infantry formations and lightly armored vehicles. This pattern uses a partially armoured canopy.
Air Cavalry[]
  • The Valkyrie Sky Talon is a stripped-down Valkyrie modified to carry light vehicles instead of troops. The troop compartment is replaced with magnetic lifting clamps that allow the aircraft to latch-on to light vehicles, such as the Tauros or Drop Sentinels, and drop them from a very low altitude right into the heart of battle.
  • The Valkyrie Vendetta is a Valkyrie modified to carry 3 Twin-linked Lascannons which allow it to operate in the role of a dedicated tank buster and anti-armour asset while still mounting the two Heavy Bolters at its doors.
  • The Valkyrie assault carrier is a manoeuvrable, well-armed, twin-engine Attack Craft. The durable armour and versatile payload of the Valkyrie chassis combined with the aircraft's powerful engines and stable handling make it a popular choice for a broad spectrum of battlefield roles.
  • The Elysian Pattern Sentinel is armed with either a Multi-melta or a Heavy Bolter. Both variants of this pattern have been modified to fit inside a Valkyrie and are fitted with Grav-Chutes, so they can be "parachuted" into combat

Medium Cavalry Patterns[]

Dragoons[]
Chimera Patterns of the Lunar Venatorii

Typical Lunar Venatorii Chimera Patterns

  • The basic Chimera is equipped with a Multi-Laser but can also be outfitted with a variety of other heavy weapons, such as Twin-linked Heavy Bolters, an Autocannon or a Heavy Flamer.
  • The Chimedon is essentially a heavier armed version of the Chimera that serves as a light tank. The Chimedon is armed with a turret-mounted Conqueror Cannon for added firepower.
  • The Taurox Armoured Personnel Carrier is designed to hit hard and fast, exploiting gaps in the enemy battle line or plugging those torn in the Imperium's. Though lightly armoured, the Taurox packs a punch, mounting twin-linked autocannons to mow down enemy forces as it roars into the breach.
Specialist Companies[]
  • The 'Mjorn Pattern Vox Variant Trojan is equipped with a state-of-the-art electronic warfare suite, transforming it into a mobile electronic warfare command center. Its specialized equipment includes advanced sensors for detecting enemy signals, powerful jammers to disrupt communications, and signal interceptors to gather intelligence. The Vox Adept squads stationed within the variant utilize this sophisticated platform to coordinate and execute electronic warfare operations on the battlefield.
  • The Mjorn Pattern Vox Variant Marauder Vigilant is a stripped-down Valkyrie modified with a specialist Electronic Warfare Equipment.
  • The Samaritan is a variant of the Chimera armoured personnel carrier (APC) used by the Astra Militarum. The Samaritan is a non-combat vehicle, instead the Samaritan is used by the the Imperial Guard's medical companies as an ambulance. The Samaritan is crewed by two medical company orderlies, and usually a surgeon accompanies them. The crew of the Samaritan collect the wounded and transport them to either a medical company aid station or to a field-hospice near the very rear of the line.

Heavy Cavalry Patterns[]

Armored Cavalry[]
Leman Russ Patterns of Lunar Venatorii

Leman Russ Typically Used by Lunar Venatorii Heavy Cavalry

  • The Leman Russ is the main battle tank of the Astra Militarum, and is also the most widely deployed tank in the Imperium.
  • The Leman Russ Conqueror is armed with the Conqueror Cannon, as opposed to the standard Battle Cannon, the Conqueror sacrifices outright destructive power in exchange for improved mobility and accuracy whilst firing on the move.
  • Amongst the many variants of the Leman Russ main battle tank, the Vanquisher is the only one which serves as a dedicated tank hunter. The Vanquisher Cannon is able to rip open any other tank with one well-placed shot, and even threaten a mighty Titan caught with its Void Shields down.
Light Armored Cavalry[]
  • The Mars Pattern, use several smaller fuel tanks that can be hidden inside the remnants of the Chimera chassis' troop compartment. This pattern of Hellhound is preferred by Imperial commanders to the standard pattern of the vehicle since it is similar in appearance to the regular Chimera transport, making it harder for the enemy to identify.
  • The Devil Dog replaces the Hellhound's primary armament with a snub-nosed Melta Cannon. Acquiring its name from the high-pitched howl this weapon makes upon firing, the Devil Dog is capable of punching far above its weight in armoured combat.
  • A deceptively simple adaptation of the Hellhound, the Bane Wolf replaces its Promethium with bulky canisters of toxic gas. This incredibly corrosive fume has been certified by the Magos Biologis as inimical to almost every lifeform in the galaxy.

Headquarters Transports for Support Troops[]

Support Transport Patterns[]

Lunar Venatorii Transports

Lunar Venatorii Support Transports

  • The Bovox Class Heavy Troop Transport is a 2.5-ton, all-wheel-drive cargo truck armed with Turret Mounted Heavy Stubber.
  • The Stalker Interim Armored Vehicle is a a family of eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles armed with Pintle Mounted Heavy Stubber and Turret Mounted Heavy Bolter.
  • The Hiverat High Velocity Recon and All Terrain Vehicle is a family of light, four-wheel drive, military trucks and utility vehicles armed with Turret Mounted Plasma Cannon.

Lunar Venatorii Horses[]

The Lunar Venatorii Horse is a genetically modified version of the original Terran horse used by the Astra Militarum's Lunar Venatorii that no longer resembles its ancient ancestor. Having been designed to endure far worse battlefield conditions than ever existed in Terran history, its physique is far stronger than a normal horse's, with its hind legs being able to clear trenches and power the creature through thick mud or over rubble. Its splayed feet are also better adapted to moving in difficult or nearly impassable terrain. The creature is almost hairless. It no longer has a tail, only the remaining stump, while its mane has almost entirely been bred out, leaving just short bristles which do not become tangles and require no maintenance. Its neck is longer than that of a Terran horse, with broader shoulder and girth.

Psychologically these creatures are far more aggressive than their domestic Terran ancestors, with drug injectors being used to make the creature fearless in the face of an enemy. In battle the animal will charge directly into the foes' lines and will not be startled by weapons fire or explosions. A Lunar Venatorii Horse is equipped with armour to protect its head and a respirator system to protect it from poison gases and toxic atmospheres. Such mounts are bred for power and strength, and many are given bio-chemical treatments intended to enhance their combat potential. Trained for a life of battle, these warhorses do not shy away from the enemy or panic easily. The riders depend upon their mounts a great deal, and value them more highly than any treasure.

CenterRegimental AppearanceCenter[]

The foundation of their uniform, includes a combination of functional and protective gear, consisting of an anti-wicking body suit, flak-weave combat pants, armored gloves, and carapace plates on the chest, back, and shins. Worn over their carapace armor, Lunar Venatorii soldiers wear a duster coat with rank epaulets. The coat adds an additional layer of protection and gives them a distinctive appearance. Topped with rank braids, the traditional cavalry hat is a significant part of their attire. To protect against hazardous environments and potential chemical threats, Lunar Venatorii soldiers wear enclosed rebreather masks. Elite Wyrm Riders often incorporate their mounts' materials into their appearance, using talons and scales from Tarakonian Wyrms to create unique armor pieces and weaponry. The combination of carapace armor, duster coats, and unique accessories gives them a distinctive and formidable presence on the battlefield. Their uniform reflects their individuality and emphasizes their dedication to the Imperial cause.
