The Deep Angels are a loyalist Space Marine Chapter whose origins harkens back to M39 on the former hive world of Brine. A detachment of Blood Angels first arrived on Brine in response to a distress call from an unknown Astartes chapter. What they found was an entirely ruined world where chaos and xenos reigned supreme. What first began as an attempt to save lost brothers turned into a several millennia-long fight to retake the planet. During that time, the Astartes changed to accommodate a prolonged war on this world, and their name evolved into the "Deep Angels" with a mission to seek and purge all evil in the watery depths.
Chapter History
Originally consisting of only six companies from the Blood Angels Chapter, over time the composition of the Deep Angels on Brine has changed significantly. The majority of the original Astartes have perished, gradually being replaced by recruits inducted from the underhives of Brine. Much of the culture and mindsets associated with the Blood Angels have steadily been substituted by new, local habits and ideologies, though the goal of locating the source of the lost distress call from another Astartes chapter remains a top priority. Despite exhaustive searches, no evidence has been found of a Space Marine presence ever existing previously on Brine.
All of their armaments, vehicles and tactics have been adapted to facilitate near endless combat in the depths of the ocean. The Tech-priests of the Drifting Shrine worked diligently to customise the standard Space Marine power armour so that a lone Deep Angel could persist almost indefinitely at the bottom of the sea. A specially designed rebreather mechanism continuously regenerates breathable atmosphere, while the suit itself can withstand immense pressures and severe cold without impeding the marine within. Though few in number, the Deep Angels have remained a formidable force in the War for Brine since their arrival. They will continue braving the darkness of the Deep until their mission is complete.
Notable Campaigns
Chapter Home World
Brine is now considered the home planet of the Chapter, whereas Baal had previously held this distinction. The decision to designate Brine as the new homeworld was made out of practical necessity, as around 100.M39 the vast majority of Astartes within the six companies were drawn from Brine. In the eyes of the Administratum, the planet's significance had decreased to such an extent that recruits from outside the system became rarer with each passing century. Gradually over time, the Deep Angels evolved to become their own distinct Chapter, separate from their successor brethren. Even their name was changed later on once it was clear that these Astartes were no longer truly part of their original founding chapter.

Chapter Gene-Seed
Being Blood Angels originally, the Deep Angel's current gene-seed has roots in the similar bloodthirsty mutation possessed by the rest of the chapter. However, over the millenia the gene template has shifted so that in addition to needing to drink blood to stay relatively sane, the Deep Angels can also smell spilt blood underwater within 3 kilometers. During a battle there is likely to be an abundance of bloodshed which, when smelled through the rebreathers of their helmets, often sends the Deep Angels into a sort of frenzy which leads to higher morale but lower accuracy. But when scouting, the ability to locate freshly made wounds can be just as viable a tool for locating enemies as any echolocation or radar.
Chapter Flaws
The drawback is that like other Chapters hailing from the lineage of the Great Angel, the Deep Angels also suffer from Black Rage. This may even lead to beserking marines removing their helmet and attempting to bite enemies underwater, to varying levels of success. Most brothers who succumb to the Black Rage are gathered in the Deep Angels "0 Company", known as the "Bottombleeders", and are unleashed upon factions with squishier members such as the Tau and Aeldari.

Chapter Appearance
Chapter Colours
The Deep Angels power armour is primarily a deep sea green, reminiscent of the abyssal depths, accented by black pauldrons, greaves, and gauntlets that evoke the shadows of the ocean floor. Barnacle-scarring, rope wrappings, and rust-stained chains often adorn their armour - not out of neglect, but as ritualised marks of devotion and endurance against the crushing depths. Many warriors bear spined or fin-like ornamentation, mimicking aquatic predators and serving as honour markings for campaigns waged in the lightless trenches of their homeworld's oceans. The Chapter's aesthetic blends the martial austerity of the Blood Angels lineage with the eerie, alien stillness of the ocean abyss. When the Deep Angels emerge from the dark waters, luminous visors glowing through the gloom, they resemble the abyssal reapers of some forgotten maritime nightmare - silent, patient, and utterly inescapable.
Chapter Badge
The Deep Angels Chapter badge takes the form of a stylised golden anglerfish with jaws agape - representing their predatory vigilance and the lure of death they embody beneath the waves. Their helms feature reinforced lenses of luminescent emerald and breather-ports adapted for deep pressure environments, giving them a haunting, abyssal visage.
Relations
Allies
The Deep Angels sustain a consistent, but often begrudging, alliance with all other human factions in the Brine System. They are especially connected with the Dark Krakens who are as close to a fellow chapter as they can get. Because the Angels circulate throughout the other factions for strength support, members tend to become acquainted with non-astartes and even form bonds with pearlescent sisters and guardsmen. However, they still look down on the civilians within the submerged Hive Cities as "human chum" hiding away from the righteous conflict in the ocean.
