The Death Champions are loyal Space Marine Chapter hailing from the lineage of the courageous and stoic Iron Hands. They were created during the 4th Founding sometime in the mid-500s.M32, following the near-disastrous War of the Beast, when the Imperium of Man was nearly decimated by the largest Ork WAAAGH! not seen since the Ullanor Crusade during the latter years of the Great Crusade.
Unlike many of their fellow Chapters, they do not follow the wisdom of the Codex Astartes, instead following their own wisdom of warfare. The Death Champions also dsiplay a perculiarly idiosyncratic Chapter cult, whose rites and traditions focus on death and martyrdom. This obsesession with death and macabre began after a chance encounter with the mysterious revenant Astartes known as the Legions of the Damned. Since that time, the Chapter has revered the fallen over and above the living, which is displayed by their use of the symbols of death and mourning in their Chapter iconography.
