The Crimson Vanguard are a Loyalist Chapter that was created in the Ultima Founding as one of the Successor Chapters of the White Scars. Early in the chapter's history, the Chapter found records that were written by the Ancient Terran samurai and in order to pay homage to these warriors, the Crimson Vanguard decided to adopt their culture.

History:

The Chapter was born during the fires of the Indomitus Crusade and were forged from the ranks of the Unnumbered Sons of the Primarch's and the Greyshields were a collective of nine Legion-sized chapters of Primaris Space Marines that were created in secret by Belisarius Cawl and were released under the authority of Roubute Gulliman.

The Chapter was drawn from the gene-line of Jagatai Khan and they were orignally known as the Stormborn and this name was due to their fast-attack void specialists within the Indomitus Fleets. Unlike their more aggressive cousins, they were known for being contemplative and their combat approach were known for being a dance of precision strikes and hit and run tactics that reflected their gene-sires legacy and their evolving battle philosophy.

Notable Campaigns:

Chapter Homeworld:

Due to the Chapter's fleet-based nature, they've been known for recruiting from Numerous planets and a notable recruitment world of theirs would be Shiokaze that's located in the Segmentum Pacificus that's a bleak but beautiful oceanic world that's dotted with rugged islands, craggy fjords and storm-lashed archipelagos.

Due to the planet's tectonic instability and the winds being heavily saturated with salt, this has made terrestrial agriculture difficult, resulting in the human population becoming fishermen, pearl divers and even whalers while braving turbulent waters and monstrous sea life. The planet's notable region known as Kamuy's Chain is a set of islands that's been known for their brutal tidal patterns.

Fortress Monastery:

The Current Fortress Monastery is known as the Blade of Thunder and this pays homage to the Chapter's philosophy that the storm isn't destruction but acts as a form of rebirth, clarity and cleansing purpose. Another belief is that the blade isn't merely a weapon but acts as a sacred extension of the warrior's soul.

Chapter Beliefs & Culture

The Chapter has been known for their honor through service meaning that they believe is a sacred act and is a means to serve the emperor and protect the vulnerable. This means that Cowardice, treachery and selfish ambitions are often seen as spiritual failings.

Similar to the Salamanders, Every battle brother is trained when they're neophytes in the arts of war but in the craft of steel and fire. This includes blacksmithing and the creation of weapons, armor embellishments and this acts as an extension of their soul.

Other notable Cultural Practices is that battle-brothers have been known for carrying ceremonial weapons known as the Dotesuken that's a mono-edged blade from fragments of the armor of Battle-Brothers and acts as a standard issue weapon that's used during duels or ritualized executions.

Chapter Gene-Seed

Due to the Chapter being descended from the Vth Legion, their gene-seed was derived directly from the White Scars and this means that due to the Primaris enhancements that were later introduced by Belisarius Cawl, their gene-seed is notably stable and there's no minimal organ degradation and no known occurrences of defective Progenoid glands.

However, the only notable difference between the Chapter and the progenitors that the Chapter's Apothecarion has discovered is the emergence of a pigment binding compound that's within the melanochrome organ that subtly alters the apperance of the skin post implantation.

Combat Doctrine

The Chapter's Main Combat Doctrine is a Combination of Hit and Run Tactics, Boarding Actions and Close Quarters Combat

The Hit and Run Tactics means they'll leverage overwhelming force at precise points and disengage before the enemy is able to retaliate. This means that battle-brothers have been known for descending via Storm Talons and Thunderhawks and focus on the destabilization of leadership units, artillery and even supply lines.

The Boarding Actions portion means that Battle-Brothers often train extensively with void hardened armor and mag-locked melee weapons and often fight in the silence of decompressed corridors with their melee weapons in hand. The final portion of their Combat Doctrine is the Close Quarters Combat and this means they charge with their melee weapons that include their custom made power swords or ritual mono-blades and fight with a elegant precision.

Deathwatch Service

The Chapter believes that serving within the Deathwatch is a honor as well as a Sacred Pilgrimage and acts as a test of a warrior's endurance, spiritual strength and devotion.

However the main criteria for someone to be sent to the Deathwatch is that a Battle-Brother has to undergo a rite known as the Steel Reflection that tests their Combat Performance in Duels and Live Engagements, their Mastery of Battlefield Repairs and other important criteria. Once a battle-brother passes these tests, they're given a custom made power weapon that was made.

The typical term that a Battle-Brother serves ranges from 40-60 years although some have been known for serving a century within the Deathwatch.

Notable Members:

  • Daimyo(Chapter-Master): Kaneshiro Takeda. The current Chapter Master, it's presumed that he was one of the numerous Awoken Primaris that were a part of the Indomitus Crusade. His current wargear include Gravis Armor, a custom made power sword and a Volkite Serpenta that was gifted to him from the Adeptus Mechanicus.
  • Taisho(Captain) Raito Ishimura: The current 3rd Company Captain, he's been known for being brash but deeply honorable and is known for his passionate speeches and willingness to lead from the Front.
