- "The Deathwatch are unforgiving, do not dare to tell them no brothers , for your fate will be that of our forebears."
- —First Captain Algus Set, First Company, Consuls Exemplar
The Consuls Exemplar is a Non-Codex Compliant Space Marine Successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists. The exact millennium in which they were founded is highly debated amongst members of the chapter and so it is considered to be lost information. The events of the actual founding however is knowledge considered to be known , though polluted from generations of being passed down as are most things in the Imperium.
The Chapter are also known to be very zealous, holding many religious views not unlike that of their fellow Last Wall Chapter, the Black Templars. These values were implemented very early in the Chapter's history when the original Chapter Master, Dax Sullion had a majority of the original membership killed after actively refusing to send members of his newly founded chapter to the Deathwatch for service. The resulting retaliation from the Deathwatch was swift and brutal, eventually beating the Consuls into submission over a ten year period. Because of this conflict the Consuls Exemplar has a higher number of it's battle-brothers forcibly enrolled into the ranks of the Deathwatch, especially those brothers with the highest combat potential. Only those whom have survived service in the Deathwatch and have returned to the Chapter are seen fit to cross the Rubicon Primaris.
It is also noted that the Imperial Knight House, House York, through manner of war are sworn to the Consuls Exemplar and their Primarch Rogal Dorn, incorporating the chapter's insignia into their banner.
Chapter History
The history of The Consuls Exemplar is shrouded in myth and dishonour leaving a lot of the Chapter's Early recorded history to be struck from all records by members of the Imperial Inquisition, this makes pin pointing the date of the Chapters founding an impossible task. It is worth noting however, that accounts of these early days have been passed from ear to ear amongst the Chapter's Battle Brothers and through the millennia this has led a lot of them to believe that they are aware of their Chapter history regardless of it's lack of documentation. It is also worth noting that the oldest surviving member of the Chapter, Brother Pythor Xonorous, whom was encased within a Dreadnought sarcophagus before the time of any living Consul, claims that he has vague memories of those early times and thusly can recall sections of the Chapter's history when awoken.
Brother Pythor had made claim that he had once worn the legendary iconography of the Imperial Fists and that this was the origins of the Chapter's gene-seed, Pythor had claimed to have served within the 3rd Company aboard a Space Hulk that he didn't care to name. Aboard the hulk he and his brothers were engaged in an insignificant conflict, in an insignificant region of space and it did not take long, nor was it a challenge to attain victory over the enemy they faced. After this, spending many years dormant of conflict feeling restless and without purpose, they skulked the decks of the hulk desperately clinging onto their warrior ideals and the hopes of further enemy contact but they would live to regret this manner of thinking, for soon after a unique warp phenomena would occur in close proximity to their vessel causing it to be dragged into the warp where they would experience horrors beyond their imagining.
Amongst the 3rd Company and also aboard the Hulk at that time there were many Brothers that would greatly impact the future founding of the Exemplar Chapter, non more so than 3rd Company Captain Dax Sullion. Dax stood proud in his plate of yellow and crimson adorned with the embellishments of his Chapter, when the Ship had been pulled into the warp he was standing at the ships bridge with three of his fellow astartes, these were, Lieutenant Mordar Rexus, Sargeant Belaas Akox and 3rd Company ancient Pythor Xonorous as well as the Shipmistress who's name is now unfortunately lost to time. As the ship began to shudder upon entering the warp the three Astartes nearly fell to their knees with the impact and the Shipmistress did but Captain Sullion stood firm through the motion like a stone, upon gathering themselves for a moment the Marines felt no respite, now inside of the warp the ship still shook but in a steady, gradual and unerving fashion there were screams but then ... silence. Shadows covered the walls yet nothing was there to cast them and all these things felt as though they happened in the same instant, it truly was a terrible place.
Nevertheless with a grunt of acknowledgement Captain Sullion turned to the Shipmistress "Give your orders!" he relayed firmly, the Shipmistress nodded and made haste back to her post, from here she would address the Hulk's Navigator for counsel to which his response was greatly dreaded , the Hulk was way too damaged and the navigator himself too weak to muster enough psychic energy to leave the bounds of the Immaterium.
Upon this knowledge reaching the ears of Captain Sullion, for a moment he would briefly consider their doom, for the damage to the vessel had left various openings suitable for nearby warp entities to seep in. Brothers of the 3rd Company , in which Captain Sullion and Brother Pythor had once known and fought beside were now turning their bolters on them, nothing but bloated husks of the former Marines they once were. This blight would spread throughout the corridors of the Hulk but Battle Brothers would fight this foul plague back in equal measure. Captain Sullion and his Brothers had never experienced such a thing and the very idea that an Astartes could become inflicted with these horrifying conditions was very unnerving to them, although they would not acknowledge it to one and other.
Luckily for the Third company it wouldn't be long before the Hulk would navigate past yet but another Opening in the Warp and was consequently dragged back into realspace. Once there it would not be long until they would discover a Skitarii distress signal explaining a dire situation that had befallen the nearby forge world of Invictus Prime, wherein they were also suffering at the hands of a plague like foe and needed severe aid and reinforcement.

These people crafted a great city within the woodlands from scraps of metal and technology that they would occasionally acquire on expeditions to abandoned areas of the fortress and thusly maintain a Society with an Imperial Planetary Governance that is separate to that of the Astartes in Dornblade Fortress.
