The Cicatrix Blades are a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter comprised entirely of Primaris Space Marines, created from the lineage of Jaghatai Khan, raised during the Ultima Founding in 999.M41. The Cicatrix Blades originally consisted of 3 full companies of White Scars Greyshields Primaris Space Marines, raised after the Indomitus Crusades' initial phase. The Chapter's homeworld is a penal world called Ixaos Fall, established as the chapter's homeworld after the recruitment potential of the local planetary populace was realised during the Dunrolium Wars.

Chapter History[]

Wandering Sons[]

Established during the Ultima Founding of ca. 999.M41, the Cicatrix Blades originally consisted of 3 full companies of White Scars Greyshield Primaris Space Marines. The chapter raised following the conclusion of the Indomitus Crusade's initial phase. The Greyshields selected handpicked and dispatched to the Sanctrus System, within Segmentum Obscurus, accompanied by a mass armada, all tasked with establishing the new Ultima Founding Chapter, including a Chapter homeworld etc. The Battle-group's immediate mission was to prevent marauding chaos forces from advancing and harvesting local star systems, a potentially rich recruitment ground for the Traitor Legions advancing from the Great Rift. The gene-seed lineage of 'The Warhawk' was apparently selected by Roboute Gulliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines himself, to harvest and maximise the recruitment potential of Ixaos Fall's savage, ruthless and uncompromising penal colonies.

The complement of Primaris Marines handpicked to establish the new chapter by a Veteran Chaplain, To'bu Temutei, a firstborn marine of the Marauders Chapter. Chaplain Temutei had already established a reputation as being a highly respected, zealous scholar of the Lex Imperialis, and Imperial Law, holding particular wrath in battle for traitors and heretics both. This being the reason he was selected by Robute Guilliman to establish the Cicatrix Blades Chapter. The Chaplain was tasked with establishing the chapter, assessing and electing from the first Chapter Master of the Cicatrix Blades.

The first campaign for the newly formed Cicatrix Blades would be for the Sanctrus System itself. The battle-group arriving with 3 companies of newly formed Cicatrix Blades to forge a home, only to find it inflamed in a system spanning Genestealer Cult revolt. The Chapter/ battle-group assets instantly fell on the Genestealer Cults throughout the system, bringing instant relief to the Imperial Forces already entrenched throughout the system. The resulting war raged for four Terran standard years, the Cicatrix Blades fighting continuously, ferociously with such aggression, striking awe and inspiration into the embattled Imperial forces. The conflict culminated in a duel between Captain Altun Jan and the Genestealer Patriarch, deep in the catacombs of Carronxard Prime, a large Industrial World within system. Captain Jan, returned blooded, broken, but victorious. What followed was a purge of the entire system, eventually ridding the system of all taint. The Cicatrix Blades established Ixaos Fall, largely unscathed by the system-wide war as the chapter's home world. The Cicatrix Blades quickly reaped the rewards of such potent initiates and engaged in establishing itself to full chapter strength.

Notable Campaigns[]

  • Dunrolium Wars (Unknown Date.M42) - The first campaign for the Cicatrix Blades would be for the Sanctrus System itself. The Chapter falling on the Genestealers/ Chaos Cultist forces, resulting in a 4-year system-widede conflict, eventually culminated in a duel between Captain Jan and a Genestealer Patriarch. The Captain returned blooded but victorious. The killing blow was delivered by the Captain's relic blade The Sword of Mars, decapitated the Patriarch. Captain Jan was promoted to Chapter Master, with To'bu Temutei becoming Chief Chaplain (Master Lawgiver), What followed was a purge of the entire system, eventually ridding the system of all taint.
  • Second Relief of Mordian (Unknown Date. M42) - Cicatrix Blades answered the Iron Hands call to relieve the besieged world of Mordian during the Iron Crusade. A number of 'Judicature Courts' being held on Mordian against Night Lords Chaos Marines. The 2nd Company earning a particular reputation for its savage, brutal but effective, tactics amongst enemy forces and allies alike. The chapter continues to provide 3 Companies to the Iron Crusade.

Chapter Homeworld[]

Ixaos Falls is a Penal World, comprised of individual, self-contained city-sized Penal Colonies, surrounded by arid deserts with vast, flat salt plains known locally as 'Carrion-lands'. Ixaos Falls' Colonies occupy abandoned cities, from a previous imperial civilisation now long lost. Each 'penal city' is an isolated urban environment for daily survival among opposition gangs, fighting for scant resources and territory within deteriorating cities. The Carrion-lands beyond the colony's walls are dominated by mechanised packs of roaming tribes - some cannibalistic, known locally as 'The Nomads'. These savage cannibals roam from location to location, on the move, fighting, consuming, raiding nearby colonies for resources to keep their numbers strong and mechanised convoys moving. Early in the Indomitus Crusade, distress calls, desperate screams, and grim last transmissions were received by the minds of Terra's astropaths from the Sanctrus star system. The cries for help being sent by Adeptus Arbites and Imperial forces within the star system. These assets had kept the Penal World of Ixaos Fall in permanent isolation confinement from the rest of the Imperium for the previous 2,000 years. A large planetary ring station (Ardent Eye) preventing any unauthorised orbital traffic from entering/ exiting the Penal World's surface. The calls for aid coincided with the arrival of the newly formed chapter task force, now recognised as the Cicatrix Blades.

The Cicatrix Blades have since placed Ixaos fall under the strictest of planetary quarantine since the conclusion of the Dunrolium Wars, establishing it as the Chapter's homeworld. The intent is to preserve the unique conditions that create such hardy and resolute initiates. The Chapter observes the planet and its inhabitants primarily from the Ardent Eye, the orbital ring that houses the sub-sectors Imperial Navy and Chapter's void assets.

Fortress-Monastery[]

The Cicatrix Blades Fortress-Monastery 'Jichaineron' is located on Ixaos Fall's Southern Pole, a vast ice continent; isolated and completely inaccessible to the planet's penal human populations. The Fortress Monastery built into the continent's vast ice sheet and the buried mountain ranges. The only means to access Jichaineron is by heavily defended landing platforms protruding from the half-buried Fortress-Monastery. Jichaineron contains all the facilities required to support a chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and has quickly gained a reputation for artful scripture covering its walls, quoting the Lex Imperialis, each letter carved into the stonework and then encased in Silver, a duty ongoing, never ceasing by the chapter's battle-brothers.

The Chapter's Fortress-Monastery holds a unique building compared to other Chapters. The Jichaineron contains an extensive Scriptorium. This is where Battle-Brother initiates create their own personal copy of the Lex Imperialis, to carry on or within their Power Armour at all times during combat, to be recited when a Battle-Brother passes judgement during a 'Judicature' battle court.

Chapter Organization[]

Officer Ranks[]

Specialist Ranks[]

  • Master of the Hunt - In keeping with the Cicatrix Blades' primogenitor chapter, one Captain is elected as the Master of the Hunt - tasked by the Chapter Master with hunting particular individuals believed to be particularly deserving of imperial justice. The current Master of the Hunt is Farn-Xan, Captain 4th Company.

Line Ranks[]

  • Neophyte Chapter Neophyte's don cowls when in the presence of anyone outside the 10th Company, including fully fledged battle-brothers.

Specialist Units & Formations[]

Companies[]

  • 1st Company ("The Absolved") - The Absolved contain the Chapter's Veterans.
  • 2nd Company ("Nomads") - The Nomads, primarily taken from the cannibal-roaming tribes of the Carrion-lands. Fast attack specialist company, solely dedicated to rapid, lightning warfare, containing the majority of the Chapter's fast-attack assets.

Chapter Culture[]

The Cicatrix Blades quickly developed a unique Chapter Culture, even for a successor chapter of the White Scars. Battle-brothers perceive to hold individual penance, owing to both the Great Khan and Emperor a debt unpaid for their biological forebears' crimes and lives of sin against the imperium, why originally sentenced to Ixaos Fall. For the 50 years of service, a battle-brothers face are cowled when in the presence of anyone when un-helmeted. Each Battle-Brother is expertly studied in the Lex Imperialis, and the Book of Judgement, able to recite the many volumes from memory fuelling his zeal and conviction in combat of the righteousness and power in the word of imperial law. Each battle cry from a Battle-Brotheis recited directly from the Lex Imperialis and the Book of Judgement.

Battle-Brothers of the chapter constitute and, carry their own, unique and individually created copy of the Lex Imperialis scripture on or within their Power Armour perpetually, always prepared to conduct a Judicature Battle Court, forever zealous in granting the Great Khan's justice. The tome also records individual battle honours. Battle-Brothers of Ixaos Fall quickly established a chapter culture of retrieving bones of their dead penal forebears where available, adorning them onto their Power Armour. This unique and unusual practice is part of the collective 'penance debt' perceived to be owed by both a Battle-Brother and his forebears for past perceived crimes against the imperium, whose lineagcontinuesue to be imprisoned on Ixaos Fall.

Cicatrix Blades execute the use so-called 'Judicature Courts'. These battlefield courts are conducted by battle-brothers against perceived traitors/ heretic battlefield prisoners. Judicature Courts are usually headed by a Chaplain of the Chapter's Reclusiam, but also by any battle-brother ranked Sergeant or above. The courts usually take place even whilst active battle still rages. A prisoner kneels before a Yassa (Head of a Judicature Court), witnessed by 2-3 battle brothers. The prisoner's crimes are declared and offered a chance to plea before judgement cast by the Yassa. Once judgement is cast, execution swiftly follows. The Judicature is recorded before a battle is re-joined. Yassa's are known to take grisly trophies, to adorn their armour as honour markings. The Reclusiam holds a particular high office amongst the chapter, with the Master of Sanctity second only to the Chapter Master himself.

Chapter Beliefs[]

The Cicatrix Blades' hold a perceived collective/ individual ideology of penance, for their birth lineage's previous sins against the imperium, for which they were originally sentenced to Ixaos Fall. The Cicatrix Blades are revered as a most zealous chapter for upholding and implementing imperial law. The Chapter has a fanatical belief in the faith, upholding and execution of the Lex Imperialis contained within the Book of Judgement. The Chapter believes that the implementation of Imperial Law is the dominant weapon against heretics, traitors and xenos alike. The only factor preventing all mankind from falling to chaos and the Zenos horde is the word of law, the fear of judgement, and those willing to pay in blood to see those words upheld.
