"For Primarch Rogal Dorn and The Emperor on His throne at Terra! Sons of Imperium, give them hell!"
—3rd Primaris Captain Daniel Artimion, Zardona Campaign

The Bolts of Dorn are semi Codex-compliant Successor Chapter created from the proud stoic and stalwart Imperial Fists during the 4th Founding in the mid-500s.M32, following the end of the infamous War of the Beast. The Chapter was created as an expansion to rebuild many lost chapters of Imperial Fists lineage and other 2nd and 3rd Founding Successor Chapters. The Bolts of Dorn was also created to counter myriad threats from the Segmentum Ultima, be it the Forces of Chaos from the Maelstorm or the marauding Orks and the newly emerged Necrons and T'au Empire.

Though the chapter is known for its fleet-based chapter, they are given an honour from the High Lords of Terra to rule and govern the Gilderic System located in the Herzavar Sector. Where the fleet based chapter will recruit its forces from both Hilderic Prime and Secundus. The Bolts of Dorn Astartes is well known mastery of bolt weaponry and siege warfare, combining the might of Bolter and heavy weapons to extreme precision while at the same time the chapter is known for its extensive usage of Volkite weaponry uncovered deep within the buried Adeptus Mechanicus Armory of Hilderic Secundus. The chapter's mastery of hand to hand combat, favoring Power Fist and Power Maul is also well known throughout the sector. Through such skills, the Bolts of Dorn produce one of the best Company Champions in the Imperial Fists Successors' ceremonial honour competition, the Feast of Blades.

Chapter History

Following the end of the War of the Beasts, Imperial Fists and many chapters of its Successors decide to rebuilt their chapter back to its full strength. Under commendation of the High Lords of Terra and the Chapter Master Maximus Thane of the Imperial Fists, the Bolts of Dorn is born. With Hedlrin Mac Uthern as its First Chapter Master, and Maxentius Vor as its first Reclusiarch, the two veterans of the Imperial Fists decide to recruit its Battle Brothers from the newly found Gilderic System, deep inside the Herzavar Sector, a sector at the north east of the Ultramar. Following the trace of Dorn's Astartes that is recruited across this sector, the denizens of GIlderic System is rich of potential recruits. Within 1 Terran years and 50 days, the estimate 1000 strong Astartes is born for the chapter.

With the Gloriana-class Battleship Fist of Koorland serving as the Chapter's main headquarters and the Hilderic Prime and Secundus as the chapter's recruiting world, the Bolts of Dorn are vowed and sworn to protect the Imperium and the honor of the Sons of Dorn as the vanguard of the Eastern Fringe and the first to deploy should there be Last Wall Protocol ever called by their gene-brethern.

The Bolts of Dorn shares near similar traits with the Imperial Fists. Stoic, stubborn, and its stern behaviour. But the Bolts of Dorn somehow shows a traits of willingness to aid and defend the Imperial civilian and sees them as a subject worth defending. This traits are shown during Fernata invasion where the Bolts of Dorn muster defenses to allow Imperial citizens to evacuate safely to Herzavar and Ultramar. Another traits shown came from their refusal to tear down Hive City Kranendor at Segmentum Pacificus during the emergance of Necron Tombworld Vothmathep. It took them two Terran days to evacuate the entire civilians of Hive City before the Bolts of Dorn aided by Skitarii of forge world Tetracis to purge the Necrons and destroy its Phaeron. This traits of protecting innocent civilians earn them merits and renown across the Imperium but at the same time the chapter's traits followed by their pragmatic approach to solve things made a cold relationship even shown to disdain the Ecclesiarchy and religious or puritan Inquisitors.

In the beginning of 921.M41, the chapter had uncovered ancient armory belong to the Imperial Fists back during the Great Crusade. Aside from few Ancient Warmachines of the old such as Xiphon Pattern Interceptors, Falchions, and Rapier Weapon Platforms, the Bolts of Dorn also uncovered the large cache full of Volkite weaponries, from the Volkite Caliver, to Volkite Serpenta. Since then with the aid and donation of some of the Volkite weaponries to the Adeptus Mechanicus of the forge world Tetracis, the chapter become known for its vast usage of Volkite weaponry, from the very Tactical Squads and Intercessors to planetary defense weapons and Heavy Armors such as Predators and Land Raiders, armed with Volkite Culverins.

At the M42, with the arrivals of the Primaris Space Marines. Surprisingly, the Bolts of Dorn received only 100 strong Primaris Space Marines led by Captain Aethelwulf. Initially the chapter received 300 Primaris Space Marines following the disastrous even known as Scourge of Gilderic System by the Hive Fleet Jormundgandr's splinter Hive Fleet code named Hive Fleet Cernobog. The Hive Fleet Cernobog succesfully devastate the Hilderic Secundus, destroying the Chapter's 4 companies in the process (1st, 2nd, 6th, and 9th). It is unknown how the Bolts of Dorn lost its 200 strong Primaris reinforcement, but within 2 Terran years the Chapter is rebuilt and finally able to refill its destroyed company with the new Primaris Astartes.

Even though the chapter stand vigilant guarding the Eastern Fringe and its surrounding against the enemies of the Imperium. The chapter culture is heavily inspired by the Imperial Fists culture itself, thus the Bolts of Dorn will always compete, sending their best Company Champion during the famous centennial competition known as the 'Feast of Blades' that is held between the Imperial Fists and their fellow Successor Chapters.

The Gilderic System is an ancient system discovered during the Great Crusade by the explorers of the Legiones Astartes. This Rogue Traders the twin Gilderic and Hilderic scout the entire Herzavar Sector and report it to the Emperor and his Primarch Rogal Dorn. As the twins at the end of his duty, their ship stumble across a warp storm and after 1 hour passing the cruel phenomenon, the twins and their crew found two planets with a dying star. Gilderic and Hilderic reported back to Primarch Rogal Dorn and to honor their explorations, the twin Rogue Traders are named after the system and its planets. With Hilderic now serve as the Planetary Governor of two planets, Gilderic resume his expedition but presummed KIA after he approach the Istvaan System at the beginning of the Horus Heresy.

The Gilderic System then serve as the Imperial Fists Legion's armoury and during the course of Horus Heresy, the planet serve as the VII Legion's forward base. But was abandoned following the Traitor Legion's focus on Terra. By the time of the Great Scouring the two planet serve as the Imperial Fists's recruitment planet. Thus, following 1 year after the end of the War of the Beast, the Bolts of Dorn were raised and in charge of the Gilderic System.

The Feudal World of Hilderic Prime is filled with temperate forests, prairies, and mountainous areas with green valleys. This world is filled with clans and petty kingdoms constantly warring one another to earn the respect of the Thunder Giants (Space Marines). Compared to the Hilderic Prime, Hilderic Secundus is near inhospitable Feral World filled with ash, volcanoes, muddy plains, bogs, lava rivers, and boiling sea where the ocean look like a massive hot springs. This planet is filled with Techno Barbarian tribes and clans that constantly wage war among one and another, this time for glory and resources over honoring the Chapter.

The two world serve as the recruiting ground filled with fresh recruits for the Bolts of Dorn Astartes. To ensure the chapter's activity in the area, a small headquarter was built as the mountain tops of both planets. Each headquarter is under watchful eye of the 9th Company and answers directly only to the Chapter's 9th Captain and the Chapter Master.

Recruitment Process

The Bolts of Dorn recruitment process is divided into two categories for the Hilderic Prime and Secundus. To planet Hilderic Prime, the 10th Company Captain or Chaplain will gather the clan leaders and kings of the planet and scheduled a battle. Each battle is observed by the officers of the chapter and the potential aspirants with the best commandering, initiate grand strategy, leading his soldiers to victor or even the most bloodthirsty and cruelest of them all were picked as the fresh recruits of the chapter.

For Hilderic Secundus, the 10th Company Sergeants observed by Chaplain of the 10th or 9th Company will watch the deeds of the tribals in every battle, duels, and skirmishes. Any sign of good leadership, great tactical mindset, or bloodthirsty combat skills and act of courage will be taken by the Chapter.

The chosen recruits then receive their Space Marine organ and si given the Black Carapace and a Combat Knife with their names, then the recruits will be branded with Chapter's logo on their right chest as a symbolic final initiation to the chapter.

Each Foederatus is also equipped with Neo-Vollkite Pistols. They often deployed to face the toughest enemies or straight to the harsh and deadliest battlefield with few percent chances of survival. The Foederatus Astartes consist of veteran Astartes with 150 Terran years of service that survive even brutal training than standard Space Marine training.
  • Hellfire Pattern Redemptor Dreadnought - The Volkite weaponry that is uncovered, maintained, and innovated by the Bolts of Dorn and Forgeworld Tetracis had create new innovation as an additional firepower to the chapter. The Macro Volkite Culverin able to fire a great burning beam that cause devastating effect on organic matter, explosively burning flesh into ash and jetting fire. Unlike the Volkite Culverins on Contemptor Dreadnoughts, the Macro Volkite could fire with longer range with precise accuracy. The Redemptor Dreadnoughts of the Bolts of Dorn are equipped with such technology. The Macro Volkite Culverin is equipped at Both hands or sometimes on the right arms of the Dreadnought, leaving the left arm with the original Redemptor Fists.
  • Gladiator Hellstorm - The exclusive Gladiator Tank for the Bolts of Dorn Chapter. The Gladiator Hellstorm serve as Anti Elite Infantry and Anti Air tank. It is equipped with Twin Volkite Caliver sponsons and Twin Icarus Stormcannon Array mounted weapons.

Combat Doctrine

Bolts of Dorn Astartes is well known for its mastery of Siege Warfare and Long range warfare. Like Imperial Fists, the Bolts of Dorn masters and perfect the art of bolter drill, able to deliver swift precision with hailstorm of Bolters and heavy weapons from the Plasma Fire and overheated melta to Long range Lascannons and ancient Volkite weaponry.

The Bolts of Dorn melee approach lies on its mastery of hand to hand combat, prefering Power Maul, Power Fists, Chainswords and Combat Knifes against their foes. The chapter's mastery of ranged weaponry did not neglect their trainings in close combat. The Power Fists, Power Maul, and Power Sword become the chapter's signature weapon often held by officers from Sergeant to Chapter Master.

The chapter's extensive usage of Volkite weaponry began in 921.M41 where at the aftermath of the Defense of Hilderic Secundus against the Iron Warriors warband led by Warsmith Grodyon, the chapter had uncovered ancient armory belong to the Imperial Fists back during the Great Crusade. the armory consist of large cache of Volkite weaponry as well as its STC serve as a game changer in chapter's warfare. With the aid of the forge world Tetracis, the Volkite weaponry soon adopted by the Bolts of Dorn with the intercessors squad possessing at least two Volkite Calivers, and Volkite Chargers and Serpenta often wield by Sergeants and high ranking officers. In addition, Redemptor Dreadnoughts of the chapter are equipped and mounted with Macro Volkite Culverins, producing deadly deflagrating thermal energy that could burn the enemy to crisp.

The Bolts of Dorn Astartes is known for its more pragmatic tendency even for Imperial Fists successor standards that affects their tactical approach and the chapter's codex deviation. Each company from the 1st to the 9th is filled with at least 2 Foederatus Squad. The Chapter's 1st Company is not filled with entirely veterans but rather serve as the quick reaction and rapid response team. The 8th Company served entirely as the Mechanized Company with each battle brothers heavily trained to operate at least 3 types of Vehicles. the 9th Company served as the planetary defense initiative, focuses on defending Hilderic Prime and Secundus against the invasion of xenos and Chaos.

The Bolts of Dorn is also well known for its mastery of mechanized warfare, utilizing Predator Annihilator, Gladiators, and Repulsor formation to pit down enemy war machines, daemon engines, or hordes alike. Each Tanks from Repulsors to Land Raiders and long lost Sicaran tanks are equipped with extra platings and adamantium Dozer Blades.

The Space Marines of the Bolts of Dorn are trained and well prepared with the Last Wall Protocol and mastering the arts of all out war against foes with far greater numbers. The chapter's ever vigilant traits makes them ruthless defenders of Eastern Fringe.

The Bolts of Dorn Astartes is known for its Evacuation and Rescue Protocol, able to defend and protect the Imperium citizens and withstand the enemy's siege or raids while the Imperium citizens evacuate through Imperiums battleships and even the chapter's Battle Barge and Strike Cruisers.

Chapter Gene-Seed

The Chapter's gene-seed is known for its purity, stable, and shows the nature of most Imperial Fists Astartes should be: bold, stoic, stern, stubborn, and worrying traits of self-castigation for perceived failures. The Bolts of Dorn gene-seed's however shows no sign of genetic deficiency Dorn's Darkness. In addition, the gene-seed of the Bolts of Dorn shows an unlikely that the Astartes possess a compassion to aid the weak citizens of the Imperium.

This traits however seen as a flaw by most of their fellow Imperial Fists Brethern. Like all Sons of Dorn, the Bolts of Dorn Astartes have lost the use of two of the Astartes organs: the Betcher's Gland, which allows a Space Marine to produce poisonous/acidic spittle, and the Sus-an Membrane, which allows an Astartes to enter a state of suspended animation.

The unique new traits of the Bolts of Dorn Astartes gene-seed is its enhanced smell sensory, able to smell the lightest dangerous substances from ordinary human or xeno blood to poisonous extracts at the enemy's blade.

Chapter Beliefs

Bolts of Dorn is a pragmatic chapter that believe in the Imperial Truth. The chapter's view of the Emperor as the exemplar and the great ruler of the galaxy is often collide with the teachings of the Imperial Cult. In one of the cases the Chapter Master Genseric Valkron were persuaded and even forced to contribute to built an Imperial Cathedral by the Archbishop of the newly conquered Belfrac systems from the secessionist forces. The Chapter Master refuse, showing his disdain and even scepticism to the Imperial Cult. The Archbishop contact the Ecclesiarchy and report the Chapter Master and Bolts of Dorn for heresy. With the relic Thunder Hamer 'Koorland's Fury', Genseric smash the Archbishop's head and return to his Thunderhawk, giving the symbolic Hive City key to General Enricus Stubbs.

Prayers, reciting religious verses, chanting mantras, flagelations, and devotion like Storm Zealots, Space Naga, and the Black Templars are strictly forbidden by the Bolts of Dorn. In return, the Chaplain oversees the Chapter's believes in Imperial Truth, changing prayers and mantras with self reflections and pain meditations through the usage of Pain Gloves. To some extend, the Bolts of Dorn shows a little dislike to fellow Astartes Chapter that worship the Emperor of Mankind as a Divine being or a God. Chapters like Black Templars, Storm Zealots, Star Phantoms, Space Naga, and Fire Angels are recorded and known for its devotion to the Emperor as a Divine beings, thus the Bolts of Dorn will not comply to their call of prayers or even aid them in battle unless in dire circumstances or involving rescue and defend the citizens of the Imperium.
