The Blood Drakes are a Successor Chapter created from the lineage of the Salamanders. Comprised almost entirely of Primaris Space Marines after they suffered great losses while stopping a brewing Ork waagh in the late 39th millennium, they were raised during the Cursed Founding in 991.M35.

Trained extensively in close-quarters warfare and veterans of dozens of close-fought campaigns, the Blood Drakes have proven to be highly effective in their chosen realm of warfare. Although a newer Chapter, the Blood Drakes have already earned a reputation for their pragmatic brutality and relentless aggression towards their foes, notable for their undying hatred towards the green skins which has earned them the name "Ork Hunters."

Chapter History

The Blood Drakes were founded in the late 35th Millennium on the volcanic world of Matav V following their inception during the 21st, the Blood Drakes are a noble chapter often seen as caring towards humans even going as far as actively protecting them when they are called to serve on missions outside of their preferred type. They've had a hard time since their founding often being sent on missions with no allies where the odds are stacked against them, yet somehow each time they triumph over their foes and return relatively unscathed, aside from one major fight in the late 39th millennium.

Notable Campaigns

Defense of Errar Secondus 003.M38

In the early years of the 38th Millennium the planet of Errar Secondus was abruptly cut off from the imperium, falling deathly silent, and fearing the worst the blood drakes joined their allies the Exalted Guard in the defense of the trade world errar secondus, initially joining the guard on the surface to fight off the initial attack waves, the drakes eventually moved into orbit and engaged the hive-fleet after the guard stayed behind to cover their escape, as a token of gratitude the drakes helped the guard rebuild and recover their losses pointing them towards a relatively small system that they could potentially ue as a new recruiting ground

Assault on the crimson vow

one early morning during a long trip back to their home-world the drakes were besieged by a green-skin ship, rocking the crew and marines awake and sending them into a frenzy to defend themselves from the green-skins, rapidly springing into combat against the boarding foes they deployed swift justice upon them making the green-skins regret ever even laying eyes upon their glorious void-craft, it was however not without casualties and damage costing the chapter several standard months of repair time

Tragedy of Helios

In the latter half of the 38th millennium the drakes were called to defend the trade world of Helios against an oncoming tyranid hive fleet, arriving just in time as the invasion began beseeching the world with billions of xenos, while the drakes fought hard and managed to evacuate a large amount of the populace the mission was overall declared a failure as the planet and its resources were lost to the swarm causing the drakes to get a darn shadow over their reputation that they had to work hard to overcome

Chapter Homeworld

Matah V is a meteorologically and geographically nightmarish planet with the northern hemisphere being a hellscape of constantly active volcanoes spewing hot ash and molten rock. The southern hemisphere being an icy wasteland with patches of massive dense forests spread out across it. This is due to a catastrophic event leaving the planet's moon shattered and the planet itself being tidily locked all but a single small continent is entirely uninhabitable.

Fortress-Monastery

The fortress monastery of the Blood Drakes is referred to as The Pit as it's built inside the hollowed out shell of a minimally active volcano. The training grounds are in the caldera while the forges and armories are deeper near the still active core. They make great use of the volcanos lava in forging armor and weapons.

Chapter Beliefs

The Blood Drakes are deeply spiritual believing that the planet they live on is a living being and the volcanos erupting is a sign of its awakening. The greater Imperium mocks them for this belief but their progenitors accept it as the Blood Drakes believe the Emperor himself gave their planet life. They also believe the fire of the volcanoes is the Emperor's Eternal Fury. They often gain the ire of the greater Imperium for their flagrant disregard for the Imperial Cult.

Chapter Culture

The chapters culture is similar to that of ancient Terran native Americans with a deep reverence of the earth and all its creations. They make use of every aspect making sure to waste nothing even the bones of the creatures they eat using them to make paint.

Steeds

The chapter rides massive battle-hardened owls that were biomechanically altered by the previous inhabitants of the world. These massive beasts have the ability to see in thermal vision and can even share this ability with their bonded riders.

The owls are raised from chicks by the member of the chapter with which they will form a tight bond. Both the rider and the bird trust each other fully going as far as risking their lives for the other. The birds have a remarkable regenerative healing factor and are supernaturally durable and strong being capable of carrying several tons while having a fully kitted out space marine on their back. Every neophyte in this chapter is assigned an owl which is theirs to name and raise as their own.

Chapter Gene-Seed

The Blood Drakes share the defects of their progenitors giving them jet-black skin.

Chapter Combat Doctrine

Being a Xenos hunting chapter that specializes in Orks, they abandon all strategy and use brute force against their foes through their unrelenting firepower. They make great use of everything from tanks to grenades and flamethrowers.

Notable Space Marines

Chapter Master Niko Valrak Once an aspiring and inexperienced marine, Niko was thrown into an Ork waaagh where he went up against a Warboss alone after his unit was wiped out. It cost him his left arm and right leg and left him dying on the battlefield with the Warboss promising to return for the rest of him later. And return he did, a mere 2 decades later when Valrak was helping to contain a brewing waagh, the very same Warboss showed up and ambushed his unit a second time taking his other arm and leg. Niko, however, paid him back tenfold by cutting off his head.

Algatros The Unyeilding is the chapters first master, having fallen in battle several thousand standard years ago in the late 37th millennium with his first captain Niko Valrik taking his place.

Alexi Leandros is a notable individual for multiple reasons. The first and main being his unusually large stature even for that of a Primaris as he stands at an even 10 feet tall. This puts him at a good 1-2 heads above his brothers. The second being, he is a Judiciar who has refused to move onto the role of a full chaplain.

Chapter Fleet

Their Fleet is comprised of a pair of large battlebarges and several smaller defense ships.

Chapter Relics

Terra Unleashed: Terra Unleashed is a massive relic power sword forged in the depths of an active volcano. It is tempered by the raging heat and quenched in a natural spring at the base of the volcano. It is believed to be imbued with all the rage and fury of the emperor himself. The blade was blessed by a living saint after it was used to save her life, granting it an unearthly glow.

Dragons Fury: Dragons Fury is a relic suit of Tartaros tactical dreadnought armor worn by the chapters ancient, Azric lysane. It was granted to them sometime in the early 38th millennium.

Algatros The Unyeilding: Algatros is a relic Contemptor pattern dreadnought preserving the chapters original master allowing him to continue serving after he was felled in a great battle against an Ork Warboss.
