The Black Scorpions are an 8th Founding Successor Chapter of the White Scars. Like their progenitor chapter, the Black Scorpions are famous for their hit and run attacks, maintaining an extensive armoury of fast moving vehicles such as Assault Bikes and Land Speeders. Also like the White Scars, the Black Scorpions have a tribal mentality, their Astartes often sporting ritual scars and tribal tattoos. It is said that the Black Scorpions can recall the extensive history and origins of each of their scars, a feat that may be partly accomplished by their eidetic, augmented memories.

However, unlike their progenitor chapter, the Black Scorpions do not make use of a Librarium division, believing that those Space Marines that are psychically sensitive are tainted by their connection to the warp. They have a deep superstition about psykers, believing them to be corrupt "witches." The Black Scorpions revile psykers above all else, going to any and all lengths to exterminate them. They even harbour hatred for sanctioned Imperial psykers, and those battle-brothers in other Chapters that are psychically sensitive.

This has put them at odds with their parent chapter, the White Scars, and has caused tensions to be strained between the two chapters. Despite this, the Black Scorpions still greatly respect their progenitors, and work hard to combat their prejudice against psykers, hoping to smooth over their relationship with the White Scars, and the other Space Marine Chapters they have offended.

Chapter History

The Black Scorpions are a rapid striking chapter with a deep prejudice against psykers. This has often put them at odds with their progenitor chapter, the White Scars, due to their refusal to condone any psykers, even sanctioned psykers employed by the Imperium. Due to this, they refuse to maintain a Librarius division within their ranks, and any of their battle-brothers that display a trace of psychic power find themselves ostracised by their peers.

Chapter Homeworld

The homeworld of the Black Scorpions is Malfourus Maximus. It is a Desert World of dark, gunmetal silver-grey skies and black sands. There are many rock escarpments and canyons, where the people of Malfourus Maximus live in tribal communities away from the perils of the desert, giving them security from the sand storms and predators of the desert.

It is from this world that the Black Scorpions recruit the majority of their recruits. The harsh climate of Malfourus Maximus breeds tough stock, perfect for recruitment into an Adeptus Astartes Chapter. Every generation members of the Chapter head out to the different tribes in their caves and desert villages, known as septs, to recruit new aspirants. They then take them away to put them through several trials to determine if they are right to join the Black Scorpions Chapter as neophytes.

The people and the Astartes of Malfourus Maximus know neither sunlight or peace. It is a constant struggle between the different septs for the scarce resources of the dark desert world. The cold and dry desert of Malfourus Maximus is devoid of moisture. Because of this, moisture is conserved at all costs by the sept people. They have developed suits made from the chitin of the scorpions the Black Scorpions Chapter is named after. These scorpions have adapted to the rigours of their environment by learning to conserve moisture, including the moisture of their own bodies. It has been recorded by scientists that if water is spilled near one of these scorpions they go into a frenzy, consuming all of it. It is from the flesh of these scorpions that the sept people make their moisture sealing suits. These suits have become even more advanced since the technology of the Imperium was introduced to the planet.

Chapter Colours

The Black Scorpions present a fearsome and regal visage, their war-plate a fusion of predatory menace and ritual artistry. Their power armour gleams in obsidian black, accented with gold trim, while flashes of lightning white streak their greaves and tabards - a symbol of the storm's fury harnessed through discipline and speed. Their helms, often adorned with plumed crests, evoking the ancient warrior-kings of their tribal forebears, while red ocular lenses burn like smouldering embers within the void of their visors.

Every surface of their power armour speaks of history and blood. Engraved sigils, scar-etched markings, and totems of bone and metal adorn their belts and chest plates, each representing an oath, a hunt, or a brother fallen. Chains, teeth, and scorpion motifs hang from their gear, tokens of both faith and ferocity. When the Black Scorpions descend upon the battlefield, they are as much a living storm of vengeance as they are knights of the Emperor - swift, merciless, and resplendent in their tribal glory, their coming heralded by the flash of lightning and the sting of death.

Chapter Badge

Black Scorpions Chapter Icon

Chapter badge of the Black Scorpions Chapter.

The Chapter badge of the Black Scorpions is a fearsome and regal heraldry - an icon that speaks of death delivered with precision and purpose. Set upon a burnished gold roundel, the emblem depicts a stylised black scorpion, its form rendered in stark, angular lines that mirror the sacred geomancy of their war markings. The creature's upraised claws, each bound by a ritual manacle, symbolise both the Chapter's swiftness in the strike and its unbreakable code of martial honour. Twin winged skulls adorn the scorpion's carapace, grim tokens of remembrance for fallen brothers and eternal vigilance in the Emperor's service.

The sinuous curve of the stinger, poised as if moments before the killing blow, embodies the Black Scorpions' philosophy of war - silent approach, sudden strike, and the death that follows. To the sons of the storm, this sigil is more than a mere emblem; it is a totem of faith and fury, a reminder that even in shadow, the sting of the Emperor's wrath is ever near. When emblazoned upon their armor or vehicles, the black and gold mark gleams like a predator’s eye in the desert sun, heralding both fear and reverence in equal measure.

White Scars
WS Armorial
The mighty White Scars Chapter stands as a steadfast ally of the Black Scorpions, sharing roots in swift-strike warfare and tribal honour. Born of the steppes of Chogoris, the White Scars mastered the art of the hunt - lightning-fast assaults mounted on assault bikes, the thunderous roar of engines heralding death for their foes.

The Black Scorpions, as a successor chapter, emulate that doctrine, wielding speed and savagery in every raid. Yet the White Scars' acceptance of psychically gifted battle-brothers contrasts sharply with the Black Scorpions' deep hostility to psykers - a rift that tests their fraternal alliance.

Still, the White Scars honour the Black Scorpions' warrior spirit and offer camaraderie in the crucible of war, supporting them even as tensions linger. In the grim dark of the 42nd Millennium, the alliance between these chapters endures: one rides the storm, the other strikes where lightning fears to tread, together bringing swift death to the enemies of the Emperor.
Storm Riders
The Storm Riders are a 4th Founding Successor Chapter of White Scars lineage, born amid the Imperium’s desperate recovery following the cataclysmic war against the Ork warlord known as The Beast. Forged in the crucible of destruction, they embody the duality of the storm-fierce in battle, yet solemn in purpose. Clad in battle-plate the colour of storm-wracked skies, they strike with blinding speed and precision, leaving only silence and ruin in their wake. Yet beneath their tempestuous fury lies a code of honour, a belief that war is both sacred duty and spiritual trial. They fight not for conquest, but to protect the weak and preserve the Emperor's light amidst the darkness.

It is this duality that binds them in kinship with the Black Scorpions. Both Chapters are predators born of the same storm, guided by an instinctive understanding of when to strike and when to shield. On countless battlefields, the banners of the Scorpion and the Storm have flown side by side - harbingers of swift, righteous death for the enemies of the Emperor, and deliverance for those few who still cling to hope beneath the blackened skies of the Imperium.
Black Axes
The Black Axes and Black Scorpions share a brotherhood forged not by proximity, but by purpose and bloodline. Both Chapters trace their lineage to the White Scars, inheriting the Khagan's gift for speed and precision, yet channeling it through a darker, more pragmatic lens. Their alliance was first kindled during the Pyrus Rift Crusade, where the Black Axes' methodical ambushes and the Black Scorpions' lightning-fast assaults annihilated a heretic warhost of the Word Bearers. From that campaign onward, the two Chapters have maintained a mutual respect born from shared battlefields and mirrored philosophies of war.

The Black Axes admire the Scorpions' ferocity and ritualistic discipline, seeing in them the same ruthless focus that defines their own vengeance-driven hunts. Likewise, the Black Scorpions revere the Axes as grim exemplars of judgment - warriors who strike not for glory, but for the Emperor's justice. Their combined forces are a terror to traitors and xenos alike: the Scorpions striking first, and the Axes ensuring none survive to tell of it. Together, they embody two sides of the same creed - vengeance delivered with precision, and mercy reserved for none.
