The Ashborne Drakes are a Loyalist Successor Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes created from the lineage of the heroic Salamanders Chapter. They were created during the 19th Founding in M36, to help defend the realm of the Emperor of Mankind from the threat of both heretics and xenos.
Chapter History
Let lose upon the heretic and xenos alike in M36, the Ashborne Drakes is a chapter made in the 19th Founding.
The chapter originally settled upon a remote world in the Segmentum Tempestus, their world was later lost in 361.M38 due to an Ork WAAAGH! laying waste to the world in their pursuit of battle. The chapter suffered greatly but survived to rebuild thanks to some of their forces having been away from their home-world at the time, they never made their home on another world, instead opting to remain fleet based. Having found a derelict and severely damaged Grand Cruiser in mid M37, the remnants of the chapter had spent a lot of time attempting to restore the ancient vessel. Now that the chapter was severely weakened, this project of theirs became their new home.
Baptising their new home as The Foundry, they were able to repair and restore the vessel to what it was and eventually over time the vessel transformed more and more into a floating fortress, being expanded upon in various ways.
Since the completion of The Foundry, the chapter has remained fleet based and been wherever they considered themselves to be needed the most, however as of M40 they have remained within the Segmentum Obscurus, for reasons known only by the Great Wyrm, Foros.
Notable Campaigns
The Ashen Vengeance - (361-363.M38) - Dubbed the Ashen Vengeance by the survivors of the chapter, the campaign consisted of the hunt for the Ork WAAAAGH! that laid waste to their former home-world. Aided by The Wrathful Charge, a battle barge of the Templars of Sanguinius which was closest to the Ashen Drakes home-world when a call for assistance went out. Having begun the hunt, the Wrathful Charge was eventually joined by the forces of the Ashen Drakes that remained which had caught up. 2 years of void warfare, chasing and fighting, they eventually shattered the WAAAAGH! enough that it crumbled. Eradicating as many Greenskins as they could find, their fallen brothers were finally avenged.
Chapter Home World
Fortress-Monastery
An ancient Grand Cruiser, found as a derelict, it was repaired to a functional state by the chapter, and later over time transformed into the Fortress-Monastery that it is now through various expansions and additions. It can no longer be classed as a Grand Cruiser, as it is has ventured far from the original vessel and its class.

Chapter Recruitment
Their recruitment and training of neophytes is relatively standard. They recruit from any world so long as there are viable candidates there and it isn't a world already claimed by another chapter, as they have no permanent home in a specific location in the galaxy.
The process towards becoming a fully fledged battle-brother is aligned with the standards of many chapters, however the final step for a neophyte to undertake before they are made a battle brother is to forge themselves a weapon of their choice, and then bring this weapon into combat. You may only pass if you return victorious from combat. Occasionally under certain circumstances, another attempt may be given, however in most circumstances resulting in failure, either through miss-used tactics or a badly forged weapon that broke, results in the end of that Neophyte's path.
Those who win their battle keep and maintain the weapon they forged for the rest of their lives. They may improve upon it if they wish, they may repair it if damaged. However if the weapon is ever lost or broken apart, it is a great dishonour to whomever lost their weapon, and they are labelled as "un-tempered". They must bear this designation of shame for at least 4 decades before they may attempt to forge a new weapon for themselves. Failure in this attempts leads to another 4 decades as an un-tempered. A successful forging of a weapon that later breaks or is lost sooner than their first one is the final mark of shame and disgrace for a battle brother, as they offer their own blood to the forges in a very symbolic ceremony, representing that they have proven unworthy to keep bearing the blood of their Primarch in their veins, and so it must be returned to the forge. This results in the death of said battle brother.
