- "They are the sons of Solstice, forged in storm and shadow, and heirs to the legacy of the Great Angel himself. Their blades are swift, their hearts steadfast, and their loyalty to the Emperor mirrors that of Sanguinius in all but name. To face them is to face judgment itself, for they carry both the fury of their homeworld and the light of their Primarch. Even amidst the chaos of battle, and the ever-present threat of the Red Thirst, their discipline does not waver. The Angels Carmine are not merely warriors—they are living testaments to the Emperor’s will and the enduring grace of the Great Angel."
- — Inquisitor Kaelen Rhovan, Ordo Xenos
The Angels Carmine are a loyalist, semi-Codex compliant Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, created during the Third Founding at the dawn of the 32nd Millennium. Born of Sanguinius' bloodline, they are renowned for their unbreakable brotherhood and devotion to one another, a unity that has endured through millennia of unending war. Though they have inherited the noble heritage and tragic flaws of their progenitors, the Angels Carmine have forged their own path, favouring versatile and adaptive doctrines that allow them to prosecute the Imperium’s wars by drop assault, fleet actions, and planetary campaigns with equal effectiveness. From their home world of Solstice, the Angels Carmine stand as both guardians and avengers, unyielding in their duty to protect Mankind from the countless foes that assail it.
The Angels Carmine hail from Solstice, a brutal death world of endless storms. Its skies are torn by lightning and cyclonic winds, while jagged mountain ranges dominate the continents. Human civilization persists in scattered tribes upon the high plateaus, clinging to survival in a hostile world. These tribes prize strength, endurance, and loyalty. To be chosen as a recruit by the Angels Carmine is regarded as divine providence. Clans will battle in ritual combat for the right to present their strongest sons, and aspirants are marked with sacred blood-sigils before being taken to the Arx Solari, the Chapter’s fortress-monastery carved into Mount Asterion.
To the people of Solstice, the Angels Carmine are not merely warriors—they are angels in the storm, guardians whose lightning-wreathed forms descend from the peaks to deliver justice. This reverence fosters a steady supply of aspirants, ensuring the Chapter never lacks for recruits despite Solstice’s lethality.
Chapter History[]
The Angels Carmine are a Blood Angels Successor Chapter whose legacy is defined by both nobility and unyielding pragmatism. Raised during the 3rd Founding in the early 32nd Millennium, the Chapter was tasked with securing the volatile frontier around the Solstice Sub-Sector. Though young in comparison to the ancient Blood Angels, the Angels Carmine quickly proved themselves as versatile and steadfast warriors, capable of adapting to any battlefield while delivering the ferocity of their angelic progenitor.
The Angels Carmine trace their origins to the storm-wracked death world of Solstice, a planet of towering forests, endless rainfall, and skies alive with lightning. The world’s vast arboreal continents are lashed by near-constant tempests, where the crack of thunder and the howl of wind are as natural as breath. The tribes who endure upon Solstice’s surface are shaped by its violence — fierce, proud, and bound by a warrior’s code that prizes strength, courage, and honour above all else.
To survive upon Solstice is to fight. Beasts of immense size stalk the forest deeps, and floods or lightning storms can erase whole settlements overnight. It is from these hardy tribes that the Angels Carmine draw their aspirants, and though the Chapter’s recruits are reforged in flesh and spirit by the gene-seed of Sanguinius, they never truly shed the traditions of their birthworld.
The tribal warrior culture of Solstice has become a quiet undercurrent within the Chapter’s identity. Duels of honour, ritual scars, and battle chants drawn from ancient dialects persist within the ranks — subtle echoes of a more primal past. Yet for all their ferocity, the Angels Carmine are not barbarians. They have tempered the wild spirit of Solstice with the nobility and discipline inherited from their Blood Angel forebears. Their Captains and Chaplains teach that true strength lies not in rage, but in control — that the storm, if mastered, may become a weapon of divine purpose.
Thus, the Chapter stands as a reflection of their homeworld: beautiful, deadly, and unwavering. They fight not merely as sons of Sanguinius, but as heirs to a world that forges warriors in lightning and blood — pragmatic, noble, and unyielding in the face of the Emperor’s enemies.
Angels Carmine Primaris Marine Brother Icaron, 2nd Company, 3rd Squad (battleline)
The Chapter’s first major campaigns set the tone for their enduring reputation. On the world of Korrath Prime, the Angels Carmine repelled a Chaos incursion that had already overwhelmed the planetary defenses. Their rapid deployment via Thunderhawk and drop pod assaults struck decisively, forcing the heretic forces into disarray. Shortly thereafter, they were deployed to the warpstorm-ravaged world of Tarvos, where they stabilized a rebellion of xenos-raised insurgents, demonstrating the Chapter’s ability to operate across harsh terrain and against unpredictable foes.
It was during these brutal early crusades, 642.M32, that the Chapter’s heraldry was forever altered. In the aftermath of the Siege of Lumea Reach, an entire company was annihilated holding the line against the servants of Chaos so that a Blood Angels relief fleet could arrive. The surviving brethren, mourning their fallen kin, anointed their armor with ash and bone-dust from the pyres of the dead — a gesture of sorrow, remembrance, and unbroken faith in the Great Angel. In time, this act was sanctified by the Sanguinary Priests as the Pale Remembrance, and the Chapter’s armor was changed: helms, trim, and the Aquila now bore the color of bone, a symbol of sacrifice and purity in the face of corruption.
Yet not all companies adopted the new aspect. Some, caught in endless campaigns along the outer marches of the Solstice Sub-Sector, continued to wear the crimson and gold of the Chapter’s first livery. Known as the Unyielding, these warriors are revered as living relics — a reminder of the Angels Carmine’s blood-soaked beginnings and the enduring spirit that binds all sons of Solstice.
From these early engagements and transformations, the Angels Carmine became known as steadfast defenders of the Solstice Sub-Sector. Imperial governors and Astra Militarum commanders learned to rely on their counsel and judgment, for the Angels Carmine sought no glory — only the fulfillment of duty. Every victory is tempered by remembrance, every battle a silent vow to the fallen: that their sacrifice was not in vain.
The Angels Carmine’s enduring mission is clear: to safeguard Solstice and its surrounding systems, to execute orbital strikes and planetary assaults with precision, and to uphold the noble, tragic legacy of Sanguinius.
Notable Campaigns[]
- The Crimson Tempest (M32-M33) - In the centuries following their founding, the Angels Carmine were baptized in blood during what would come to be known as The Crimson Tempest — a vast and devastating campaign fought across the Solstice Sub-Sector. The conflict erupted when an immense Ork Waaagh!, led by the brutal and cunning Warboss Graxhul Skullsmasha, swept out of the void and descended upon the nascent Imperial worlds of the region. The greenskin hordes fell upon the frontier colonies with savage abandon, their ramshackle fleets blotting out the stars and their warbands overrunning entire continents in days and slaughtering imperium forces. Planetary defense forces faltered and fell, their lines shattered beneath the sheer scale of the invasion. In the eye of this storm, the newly-forged Angels Carmine answered the call to war, eager to prove their worth to the Imperium. The Chapter’s campaign was waged primarily across the storm-wracked highlands of Kharast’s Reach, Velarn IX, and Solstice’s outer moons, where cyclonic tempests and jagged terrain mirrored the fury of the battle itself. The Angels Carmine descended from orbit in their signature manner — by Thunderhawk gunships and drop pods, striking with the fury of the tempest that raged around them. Entire companies deployed simultaneously into active storm systems, using lightning-choked skies as cover for rapid insertion. To the terrified human defenders below, it seemed as though crimson angels had fallen from the heavens to bring divine retribution. Over the course of eighteen solar months, the Chapter prosecuted a series of decapitation strikes and rapid interdiction campaigns, focusing on severing the Orks’ lines of supply and isolating their warbosses. Assault squads led lightning raids into Ork strongholds carved into mountainsides, while Devastator detachments established storm-blasted firebases overlooking ravines and passes thick with greenskin armor. In one of the campaign’s most celebrated engagements — the Battle of Tempest Reach Captain Varran Solen of the 3rd Company led a desperate counteroffensive to hold the ridgeline above Graxhul’s main advance. Though outnumbered nearly ten to one, Solen’s forces held their ground for six days amidst toxic rain and unrelenting shellfire, their armor blackened and their ammunition nearly spent. When relief forces arrived, they found only a handful of battered survivors, still manning their guns amidst heaps of Ork corpses.
- The Ashen Crusade (M35) - Called to assist the Black Templars, the Angels Carmine faced a Word Bearers incursion that had seized multiple industrial planets, threatening entire subsectors with warp corruption and daemonic manifestation. The conflict, later recorded as The Asharan Purge, saw the Angels Carmine commit nearly half their strength in a campaign of relentless precision and attrition. The Chapter deployed from orbit aboard the Excelsior and Helios, initiating a sequence of carefully calculated bombardments to cauterize warp-tainted zones while ensuring vital manufactoria and infrastructure were preserved. Strike Cruisers launched successive waves of drop pods and Thunderhawks, delivering Tactical and Assault squads directly into the hearts of cultist bastions. Every insertion was surgical, every strike coordinated through orbital telemetry and auspex sweeps relayed from the fleet above. The war reached its zenith on Ashara IV, the most corrupted of the system’s worlds. Here, a widening warp rift had consumed much of the planet’s capital, twisting its spires into shrieking monuments of flesh and metal. Angels Carmine strike squads fought block by block, purging daemonhosts and heretek constructs from what remained of the hab-sprawls. Entire platoons of mortal soldiers were saved only by the intervention of Thunderhawk-borne Carmine squads, descending like avenging angels through ash-choked skies. Coordination with the Black Templars was tenuous but effective—the zeal of the crusaders complemented the measured discipline of the Carmine. The Word Bearers’ dark sermons fractured under the combined assault, their warlord slain in the upper manufactorium during a joint offensive led by Captain Livius Kaeron of the 2nd Company. Yet victory came steeped in tragedy. The prolonged exposure to the warp-tainted atmosphere triggered the Black Rage in dozens of Angels Carmine, particularly among the 2nd and 5th Companies. Over half of their number perished in berserk fury, cutting down daemons and heretics alike before finally succumbing to death. Though the rift was sealed by the combined efforts of the Angels Carmine Librarius and the Templars’ Reclusiarchs, the Chapter emerged scarred and diminished. The Asharan Purge became a sobering lesson—zeal without restraint could destroy as surely as heresy itself. In its aftermath, the Angels Carmine restructured their combat doctrine, weaving discipline and control into every act of righteous fury.
- Defense of Tarvos (M37) - The desert world of Tarvos erupted in rebellion when xenos-raised laborers, manipulated by a Genestealer cult, seized control of critical facilities. The Angels Carmine deployed rapidly from orbit, striking key fortifications with precision drop pods and Thunderhawk insertions. The battle spanned weeks of grueling desert warfare. Assault squads cleared fortified towns while bike squads disrupted enemy supply lines. Despite the insurgents’ tenacity, the Angels Carmine successfully stabilized the planet and preserved much of its infrastructure. Still, the campaign was not without cost: several veteran squads were lost, and the Chapter’s scouts recorded high attrition among new recruits, underscoring the harsh reality that even minor planets could exact a heavy toll. Tarvos became a lasting symbol of the Chapter’s adaptability and pragmatism, proving they could operate in hostile terrain under extreme environmental conditions.
Angels Carmine, 3rd Company, 2nd Squad engaging Genestealers on a Hive World, after the Devastation of Baal, dorning the older chapter pattern'
- Devastation of Baal (999.M41) - When Commander Dante called for aid, the Angels Carmine pledged their entire Chapter, sending all one thousand of their Battle-Brothers to the defense of Baal. They were initially deployed to Baal Secundus, tasked with reinforcing scattered bastions, holding critical migration routes, and assisting in the evacuation of civilians and retreating forces. For weeks, the Angels Carmine engaged in relentless defensive actions. Their Thunderhawks and Drop Pods struck repeatedly to stabilize collapsing positions, often at tremendous cost. Entire squads were lost holding exposed terrain, and the Chapter suffered heavy casualties, with many of their most skilled and experienced warriors falling in the struggle. Even after the fighting on Baal Secundus, the survivors joined the final defense of Baal itself, standing alongside the Blood Angels and other Successor Chapters. Though their numbers were drastically reduced, their steadfastness allowed veteran units to focus on decisive engagements against the Tyranid main forces. By the end of the Devastation, the Angels Carmine had been reduced to roughly three hundred Battle-Brothers from an initial deployment of around one thousand. While they were not the heroes who turned the tide, their discipline, resilience, and sacrifice were remembered as an example of unswerving loyalty and grim determination in the face of overwhelming odds.
- After Baal — Torchbearer Arrival (999.M41) - After the harrowing losses sustained at Baal Secundus and during the final defense of Baal itself, the Angels Carmine withdrew to their homeworld of Solstice in Segmentum Ultima. The Chapter arrived battered and diminished, with barely three hundred of their original thousand Battle-Brothers remaining. Fortress-monastery Arx Solari bore silent witness to their sacrifice, and the surviving Astartes began the grim task of tending to the wounded, honoring the dead, and consolidating the remnants of their fighting strength. It was during this time that a Torchbearer Fleet arrived, a rare and formidable Imperial formation dispatched to restore the Chapter’s numbers and integrate Primaris warriors into their ranks. The fleet carried fully-equipped Primaris Marines in the Angels Carmine color scheme, their armor red with black trim and the golden Aquila, designed to seamlessly integrate with the Chapter’s traditions.Alongside the Primaris reinforcements came a contingent of Adeptus Mechanicus Tech-Priests, tasked with stabilizing and maintaining the Chapter’s gene-seed stock, ensuring that the new warriors could be properly inducted and integrated into the Angels Carmine’s monastic structure. The fleet also included Custodes escorts, ensuring the security of the Chapter and its relics during the delicate operation, and a small complement of Sisters of Silence, deployed to safeguard against psychic disturbances and potential Tyranid remnants in the system. The arrival of the Torchbearers allowed the Angels Carmine to rebuild their strength, blending the surviving Firstborn with the Primaris recruits. Though the scars of Baal remained, this infusion of new blood, technology, and expertise laid the foundation for the Chapter’s continued service in the Imperium, ensuring that the Angels Carmine would endure and remain a reliable, adaptable force capable of rapid planetary deployment and thunderhawk insertions across Segmentum Ultima.
- "You have borne your wounds with honor, Angels Carmine. The Master of Mankind has not forgotten you, nor the deeds you have accomplished."
- — Custodian Shield-Captain Machius, present with Primaris reinforcements
Chapter Homeworld[]
Solstice is a harsh death world located in the fringe of the Solstice Sub-Sector within Segmentum Ultima, a storm-ravaged planet of jagged mountain ranges, deep chasms, and lightning-scorched plains. Its skies are nearly perpetually darkened by violent storms, and powerful winds carve valleys and cliff-faces into treacherous terrain. Despite these dangers, the planet supports hardy human populations in scattered highland plateaus and fortified settlements, who have adapted to survive in extreme conditions.
The people of Solstice revere strength, endurance, and loyalty. From childhood, they undergo grueling trials in storm, mountain, and snow, developing resilience and tenacity. These qualities make them ideal candidates for the Angels Carmine aspirants. Tribes often present their strongest sons in ritual combat to be considered for recruitment, seeing service in the Chapter as the highest honor and a divine blessing.
Death World of Solstice, homeworld of the Angels Carmine as seen from high orbit.
The planet is rich in mineral resources and scattered hive settlements, though the latter are few and isolated, a reflection of the death world’s inhospitable nature. Solstice is also prone to xenos incursions, warp disturbances, and natural disasters, reinforcing the need for constant vigilance and justifying the presence of a Space Marine Chapter as both protectors and ultimate authority.
Fortress-Monastery[]
The Arx Solari is carved directly into the jagged cliffs of Mount Asterion, the tallest peak on Solstice. Rising like a crimson beacon against the storm-darkened skies, the monastery serves as the spiritual and military heart of the Angels Carmine. Its halls are a combination of austere stonework and reinforced ceramite, blending defensive architecture with sacred spaces.
Structure and Layout
Central Spire: The heart of the monastery, housing the Chapter Master’s sanctum, the Sanguinary High Priest’s shrine, and the Grand Armory.
Shrines & Halls of Remembrance: Dedication to fallen brothers, including sacred relics like the Chalice of Solstice.
Forge & Arsenal: Produces and maintains the Chapter’s wargear, bolters, vehicles, and Thunderhawks.
Defenses
The Arx Solari is as formidable as it is sacred. Heavy void shields and orbital batteries defend against spaceborne threats, while automated gun emplacements and ceramite walls hold against ground assaults. The cliffs themselves act as a natural barrier, and hidden drop points allow the Chapter to launch rapid orbital strikes or ambushes.
Orbital Batteries & Shielding: Defends the Arx Solari and nearby planetary installations.
Culture and Role
The Arx Solari is more than a fortress—it is the soul of the Chapter. Here, neophytes undergo the Rite of the Tear, aspirants are trained in every aspect of warfare, and the Chapter’s council plans operations across the Sub-Sector. During planetary crises, the monastery serves as a rally point for the local population, providing command, protection, and guidance. Its presence embodies the dual nature of the Angels Carmine: guardians of humanity and warriors of the Emperor, enduring whatever trials the storm-wracked world of Solstice may bring.
- "To walk the halls of the Arx Solari is to feel the weight of centuries press upon your soul. Every wall bears a name, every step recalls a sacrifice. It is a place where memory itself has teeth"
- — Brother-Librarian Kaelen, Angels Carmine
Chapter Organisation[]
The Angels Carmine follow a Codex Astartes-inspired structure, but have adapted it to suit their homeworld’s harsh environment and their pragmatic, versatile combat doctrine. The Chapter consists of ten companies, each led by a Captain and overseen by the Chapter Master, Thalorion the Steadfast, from the Arx Solari. Unlike some Blood Angels successors, the Angels Carmine emphasize flexibility and adaptability over strict specialization, training all Battle-Brothers in multiple battlefield roles.
Officer Ranks[]
- Commander - Chapter Master equivalent.
- Captain - The Captains of the Angels Carmine are the martial and spiritual pillars of each Company.
Each is not merely a commander but a Warden of the Blood, responsible for guiding his warriors through the dual burdens of service and atonement. They carry relics of their predecessors into battle, and each Captain’s armor is inscribed with verses from the Canticle of Crimson Duty, a litany unique to his Company.
- Lieutenant - Lieutenants serve as the right hands of their Captains, acting as battlefield coordinators and tactical executors.
In the Angels Carmine, they are known as Blood Lieutenants, reflecting their oath to spill their lifeblood before allowing their Captain to fall. They often lead strike detachments or spearhead boarding actions.
Senior Specialist Ranks[]
- High Chaplain - The High Chaplain stands as the voice of faith and fury, the custodian of the Chapter’s spiritual torment.
Known as the High Chaplain of the Broken, he presides over the Reclusiam of Penitents, where brothers meditate on guilt, sacrifice, and redemption. He alone may intone the Lament of the Fallen, a dirge sung before great crusades.
- High Sanguinary Priest - The High Sanguinary Priest is the chief custodian of the Chapter’s blood heritage, tending to both the physical and spiritual essence of Sanguinius. Known reverently as the Keeper of the Red Grail, he safeguards the Chapter’s sacred chalice said to contain the gene-blood of their Primarch.
He also oversees the Rite of Crimson Baptism, where aspirants are anointed before becoming full battle-brothers.
- Chief Librarian - The Chief Librarian—formally titled Master of the Librarius—is both scholar and seer.
He is the guardian of the Chapter’s psychic lore and the keeper of the Crimson Archive, a sealed vault of prophetic visions and forbidden knowledge gathered since the Chapter’s founding. The Librarius of the Angels Carmine focuses on divinatory and empathic disciplines, aiding in understanding the emotional resonance of the Red Thirst.
- Master of the Blade - The Master of the Blade oversees the Chapter’s armory, relics, and artificers.
Unlike the Techmarines of other Chapters, the Angels Carmine revere their weapons not as mere tools but as manifestations of penance and perfection. Thus, the Master of the Blade is part warrior-smith, part artisan-monk.

These warriors are garbed in alabaster white power armor with black trim, bearing blood-red saltires that commemorate the wounds of Sanguinius. Called upon only in the most desperate of circumstances, the Death Company operates as both a tool of containment and a scourge upon the enemies of the Emperor. They strike with relentless ferocity, often taking the most hazardous objectives or holding critical positions where even veteran squads would falter, their presence a haunting reminder of the cost of the Chapter’s bloodline.
- Sanguinary Guard - The Sanguinary Guard of the Angels Carmine represents the pinnacle of martial excellence within the Chapter. Composed of the Chapter’s most seasoned veterans, these warriors are clad in ornately detailed armor and wield master-crafted weapons, their appearance a blend of tradition, ritual, and martial prestige. Tasked with protecting the Chapter Master and other senior officers, the Guard also leads key offensives, acting as shock troops in pivotal battles where success may hinge on their prowess. Beyond battlefield valor, the Sanguinary Guard embodies the Chapter’s ideals of honor, discipline, and the noble restraint necessary to temper the Red Thirst, serving as exemplars to all Angels Carmine.
Order of Battle[]
The Angels Carmine are organized to maximize versatility, rapid deployment, and battlefield adaptability. Their structure combines Codex-inspired hierarchy with the Chapter’s emphasis on pragmatism, allowing for independent company operations or coordinated strikes under the Chapter Master’s direction.
Spearhead / Shock Units: 1st Company supported by select Assault and Devastator squads.
Main Line: 2nd–5th Battle Companies, forming the backbone of planetary assaults, sieges, or defensive operations.
Reinforcement / Specialized Tasks: 6th–9th Companies provide rapid-response, flanking maneuvers, siege-breaking, and adaptable support.
Reconnaissance & Forward Observation: 10th Company Scouts operate ahead of main forces, gathering intelligence and disrupting enemy supply lines.
Command Oversight: Chapter Master and Captains coordinate strategy, with Sanguinary Priests and Librarians supporting morale, rituals, and psychic operations.
Special Deployments: Death Company units are deployed in extreme-risk assaults or last-resort measures, particularly when genetic flaws necessitate controlled use of the Red Thirst and Black Rage.
Chapter Command[]
The rule of the Angels Carmine ultimately always fell to the Chapter Master and his council. Most seats at the high table were taken by the Brother Captains who commanded the Chapter's companies. Some, however, belonged to senior officers whose injuries were too great for continued combat, but whose wisdom still held great value. Such officers commanded the Chapter's vital support institutions, such as the Armoury, the Chapter fleet and the recruitment of fresh Neophytes.
Though ultimate power rested with the Chapter Master, the council was often called upon to act in its master's absence should he be slain. In addition to their role on the council, each officer also had an assigned title and duties necessary for the smooth running of the Chapter. Some such titles, such as Master of the Watch, were drawn from the pages of the Codex Astartes.
Many Angels Carmine commanders took to the field accompanied by a cadre of Veteran warriors. The Company Command -- known collectively as the Honour Guard -- were seasoned warriors, hand-picked for their skill and tenacity in combat. Fighting at the bleeding edge of the battle, the Company Command supported the Angels Carmine heroes.

Chapter Beliefs[]
The Angels Carmine are zealous yet pragmatic warriors, balancing devotion to the Emperor with the demands of survival on a harsh death world. Their beliefs, customs, and rites are shaped by centuries of combat, losses, and the influence of their Blood Angels heritage, though they have adapted these traditions to suit their unique identity.
Sanguinary Priesthood[]
The Sanguinary Priests of the Angels Carmine work ceaselessly to shield their brothers from the twin curses of the Red Thirst and the Black Rage. Through practices of temperance, meditation, and ritual, they guide even the most fervent warriors toward mastery over their blood and fury, tempering passion with discipline. Yet some brothers are doomed from the moment of their ascension, their fates marked by the inherited burden of Sanguinius’ gene-seed. Still, even these fallen souls are regarded as among the most noble sons of the blood, and their struggle is honored rather than shunned. In the silent halls of the Reclusiam and the shadowed chambers of the Apothecarion, the Sanguinary Priests toil without rest, balancing mercy with vigilance, ensuring that the Angels Carmine remain steadfast in their devotion — unflinching servants of the Emperor, bearing both the glory and the curse of their lineage.
Firstborn Sanguinary Priest of the Angels Carmine
Rite of the Tear[]
Neophytes undergo the Rite of the Tear upon reaching their first trial of combat. During the ritual,a droplet of blood from a veteran, often a Firstborn or Sanguinary Priest, is placed upon the neophyte’s brow. This bonds the neophyte to the Chapter spiritually and symbolically, linking them to the lineage of Angels Carmine until their death. The ritual is conducted solemnly in the Arx Solari’s Halls of Remembrance, emphasizing sacrifice, loyalty, and the continuity of the Chapter.
- Blood Chalice Rites - Regularly performed to honor fallen Battle-Brothers and to focus the Red Thirst and Black Rage. Priests lead these rites, reminding warriors of the necessity of discipline and restraint, even as the genetic curse threatens their control.
The Angels Carmine are noble and measured, maintaining cohesion even under extreme duress. While zealous in combat, they avoid reckless heroism, reflecting a pragmatic approach to warfare learned over centuries of hard campaigns.
The Chapter has embraced the Primaris Marines without abandoning its Firstborn traditions. Older warriors mentor new Primaris recruits, blending experience with enhanced capabilities, ensuring the Chapter remains adaptable and reliable. With some Firstborn Astartes crossing the Rubicon becoming Primaris.
The Creed guides both strategic decisions and spiritual practice. Angels Carmine value resilience and adaptability, accepting that no battle is without cost, and that each loss strengthens the Chapter’s resolve.
Artistic Philosophy[]
The Angels Carmine hold the Angelic Graces—virtues such as honor, humility, mercy, restraint, and forgiveness—as the foundation of their conduct, guiding every action both on and off the battlefield. Alongside these moral principles, the chapter views art as a vital coping mechanism. Painting, sculpture, music, and other crafts serve as meditative exercises that help temper the Red Thirst and Black Rage, providing a channel for the intense emotions that come with their lineage.
Craftsmanship and attention to detail are central to their artistic philosophy. Every work is approached with precision, discipline, and focus, reflecting the same devotion they bring to combat. This meticulousness also reinforces self-control, allowing battle-brothers to maintain clarity and temper their darker impulses. The chapter maintains a profound aesthetic appreciation, valuing beauty and perfection as a reflection of their primarch, Sanguinius, and expressing this through ornate armor, weapons, and heraldic symbols, most notably the winged blood drop.
In addition to creative endeavors, Angels Carmine consider their aerial combat tactics to be an art form. Drop pod and Thunderhawk assaults are executed with a combination of elegance, coordination, and precision that mirrors the discipline of their craftsmanship. This reflects the chapter’s duality of savagery and grace: capable of devastating brutality in battle, they are equally capable of stoic reflection, meditation, and artistic refinement during moments of peace. Through this philosophy, the chapter balances the extremes of their nature, channeling both fury and beauty into a disciplined expression of the soul, fortifying themselves against the ever-present threat of the Black Rage.
Chapter Gene-Seed[]
Like all of Sanguinius' descendants, the Angels Carmine are shackled by the twin legacies of the Red Thirst and the Black Rage. Unlike some of their brethren who seek to deny or bury these flaws, the Angels Carmine accept them as a truth of their existence. To them, the Black Rage is not a curse to be shunned, but a final echo of their Primarch’s sacrifice to be embraced with grim reverence. Those who succumb are cast into battle as living avatars of grief, their fury tempered only by the rites of the Chaplains who guide them to a worthy end.
The Red Thirst gnaws at them no less fiercely, yet the Chapter has adopted strict rituals and disciplines to master their craving for bloodshed. Though such measures can never fully still the hunger, they allow the Angels Carmine to channel it into precise, devastating ferocity rather than unrestrained slaughter. In this, they walk a razor’s edge — striving always to uphold their nobility even as the flaws of their gene-seed threaten to drag them into savagery.
Despite these burdens, the Angels Carmine remain a Chapter of honor, their deeds marked by the same selfless valor that defined their angelic forebear. For them, the flaws of their blood are not a reason to despair, but a crucible in which their devotion to the Emperor and to Sanguinius is continually tested.
Genetic Flaws[]
As a 3rd Founding Blood Angels successor, the Angels Carmine were created in the early 32nd Millennium.
The original gene-seed was derived directly from Sanguinius via the Sanguinary Guard and loyal Firstborn, ensuring continuity of the Primarch’s genetic legacy. The Chapter’s founding emphasized versatility and adaptability, with the gene-seed carefully integrated to produce warriors capable of operating in all theaters of war.The infusion of Primaris gene-seed in later centuries has supplemented the Chapter’s numbers and mitigated some vulnerabilities while retaining the character and heritage of the original Blood Angels.
The gene-seed also informs the Chapter’s ritual practices, such as the Rite of the Tear, where neophytes symbolically bond with the lineage of past Angels Carmine.
Red Thirst: Deep within the psyche of every Blood Angel and every bearer of their Primarch Sanguinius' genetic legacy is a destructive yearning, a battle fury and blood-hunger that must be held in abeyance in every waking moment.
Few battle-brothers can hold this Red Thirst in check unceasingly -- it is far from unknown for Blood Angels to temporarily succumb to its lure at the height of battle.
The Red Thirst is the Blood Angels' darkest secret and greatest curse, but it is also their greatest salvation, for it brings with it a humility and understanding of their own failings which make them truly the most noble of the Space Marines..
Black Rage: Like others among the Sanguinary Brotherhood the Angels Carmine still suffer from a genetic flaw that creates mental instability called the Black Rage, also known as the "Flaw of Sanguinius," as a result of the psychic imprint left by their Primarch Sanguinius' death at the hands of Horus during the Siege of Terra.
Angels Carmine like their progenitors are unique amongst the Space Marines in that deeply ingrained in their gene-seed is the encoded experience of their primarch, and most deeply imprinted of all is the memory of Sanguinius' final battle with Horus.
Even outside of the Red Thirst and Black Rage, Angels Carmine can display intense emotional swings and over-zealous tendencies. Long-term training, mentorship from Firstborn veterans, and guidance from Sanguinary Priests are used to maintain discipline. Modern Primaris Marines have helped stabilize certain tendencies in the gene-seed, reducing uncontrolled manifestations of the Red Thirst. The integration also presents challenges in maintaining cohesion between Firstborn and Primaris units, requiring cultural and tactical adaptation.
Deathwatch Service[]
The Angels Carmine have a long and distinguished history of service with the Deathwatch, the chamber militant of the Ordo Xenos. From the earliest days of the Chapter’s founding, the Inquisition has found the sons of Solstice to be capable, disciplined, and unflinchingly loyal—qualities that have made them a favored choice for secondment to the Deathwatch.
The Chapter’s warriors have served in countless kill-teams across the galaxy, their red and ivory armor replaced by the black of the Long Vigil. From the toxic moons of the Jericho Reach to the haunted voids beyond the Halo Stars, Angels Carmine brothers have fought and died in humanity’s shadow wars against the alien. Many have returned bearing the marks of these clandestine battles—xenos-scarred relics, Deathwatch insignia wrought in silver, or wisdom earned through fire and blood.
Unlike some Chapters that view the Deathwatch with suspicion or disdain, the Angels Carmine regard it as both a sacred duty and an opportunity for growth. To serve the Ordo Xenos is to serve the Emperor’s will made manifest, and every warrior chosen for the Long Vigil is honored as a paragon of devotion and martial excellence. Within the Chapter, it is said that “The black gauntlet tempers the red blade.”
Veterans who return from Deathwatch service are celebrated as Mentors of the Vigil—a formal title of reverence within the Angels Carmine. These warriors often rise swiftly to positions of command, their experiences shaping the Chapter’s evolving doctrines. Their firsthand knowledge of alien physiologies, tactics, and technology has deeply influenced the Angels Carmine’s approach to warfare, particularly in campaigns against xenos forces such as the Tyranids, Necrons, and Orks.
Furthermore, the Chapter maintains several liaison officers permanently assigned to Watch Stations across the Segmentum Pacificus and beyond. This has fostered a strong bond of mutual respect between the Angels Carmine and the Ordo Xenos—a rare relationship built on reliability, trust, and an unwavering record of obedience to the Inquisition’s call.
For the Angels Carmine, service in the Deathwatch is more than a duty; it is a crucible. The lessons learned in the shadow of the alien are brought back to Solstice, where they shape new generations of warriors. To the Chapter, this is the purest expression of Sanguinius’ legacy: the eternal struggle to defend humanity, no matter the form of the enemy.
Chapter Combat Doctrine[]
The Angels Carmine are masters of flexibility and precision. Their approach to warfare embodies a perfect synthesis of Blood Angel ferocity and Codex Astartes discipline. Where many Chapters emphasize one defining method of war, the Angels Carmine instead cultivate balance. Every Battle-Brother is rigorously trained to perform as Tactical, Assault, or Devastator Marine, ensuring that any squad may adapt to shifting battlefield conditions with seamless unity. This hard-earned versatility has earned the Chapter a reputation across the Segmentum Ultima as dependable, adaptable warriors capable of turning the tide of seemingly hopeless engagements.
Their favored mode of warfare is rapid planetary deployment — striking from orbit with overwhelming force before the enemy can fully respond. Thunderhawk gunships, Stormravens, and drop pods descend through fire and storm, delivering squads directly into the heart of battle. These “Storm Descents,” as they are known within the Chapter, mirror the tempests of their homeworld, Solstice. The Astartes of the Angels Carmine often speak of themselves as the "Sons of Solstice", emphasizing their desire for becoming noble in action and aspect, excelling in all matters, strong, civilised, firm of purpose and loyal to the core.
Solstice’s deadly environment shapes not only the physique but the psyche of its sons. Combat drills within the Arx Solari fortress-monastery take place under conditions that mimic Solstice’s savage gales and near-constant lightning strikes. Angels Carmine squads are thus capable of fighting in any environment — from irradiated hive ruins to vacuum-exposed decks of void hulks. Such environmental conditioning also makes them invaluable for boarding actions and orbital purges, where they often deploy with jump packs and meltas to neutralize strongpoints before their enemies can mount a defense.

Their doctrine also emphasizes mutual support between companies. It is not uncommon for two or more companies to conduct joint strikes, with one executing orbital insertions while another establishes perimeter fortifications and coordinates extraction. This level of inter-company cohesion — rare among Astartes — stems from their deeply ingrained belief in brotherhood and shared sacrifice.
Ultimately, the Angels Carmine fight as a single organism — every brother aware of his role, every strike planned and executed with almost instinctive precision. They are not the fastest, nor the strongest, nor the most zealous of the Blood Angels’ descendants. But they are among the most dependable, and in a galaxy consumed by endless war, reliability is its own form of perfection.
- "One warrior’s courage may turn the tide of war — but four of the Angels Carmine stand as the tide itself. Our deeds do not change the galaxy; they cleanse it."
- — Sergeant Alaric Veyne, 1st Company, Angels Carmine
Notable Space Marines[]
- Chapter Master Thalorion – Current Chapter Master. Orchestrated the Rapid Insertion Campaign on Veyran IV, coordinating Thunderhawk strikes under heavy resistance while sustaining minimal losses. Known for calm decisiveness in crisis, he embodies the Chapter’s balance of zeal and pragmatism. Thalorion bears into battle the Armor of the Dawnfire, an ancient suit of Cataphractii Terminator armor said to date back to the earliest days of the Chapter’s founding. Its ceramite plating bears the scars of ten thousand battles, its crimson hue darkened by centuries of service. The armor’s halo field emits a pale, sun-gold shimmer, earning Thalorion his almost angelic presence on the field. Integrated within its frame are relic power systems sanctified by generations of Techmarines, and its left vambrace houses the Vigil of Solstice, a master-crafted storm shield engraved with oaths of brotherhood and penance. Under Thalorion’s leadership, the Angels Carmine have endured their greatest trials — from the devastation of Baal to the Chapter’s reforging during the Torchbearer Crusades. Unlike many of his peers, Thalorion welcomed the Primaris reinforcements not as usurpers, but as brothers reborn — a pragmatic acceptance that has preserved his Chapter from division. He is often quoted within the halls of the Arx Solari.
- Sanguinary High Priest Kaelvryn – Keeper of the Red Grail. Oversaw the Rite of the Tear for over a century and personally guided the integration of Primaris Marines, ensuring the Chapter maintained cohesion and tradition during modern expansions.
- Captain Seravus of the 3rd Company – Tactical mastermind of rapid planetary insertions. Credited with designing the “Thunderhawk Spearhead Doctrine”, used in multiple Solstice Sub-Sector campaigns.
- Lieutenant Varyon – Veteran scout leader. Famous for infiltrating the Tyranid-controlled world of Zarek Prime, gathering intelligence that allowed the Chapter to neutralize a critical Hive Fleet advance.
- Brother-Sergeant Deryn – Death Company veteran. Known for maintaining discipline under Black Rage during the Siege of Corvessa, personally holding the line against overwhelming enemy forces. His final stand was recorded during the defense of Baal Secundus where he took down various synapse creatures before being overwhelmed by the Tyranids.
- Chaplain Elyrion – Spiritual mentor and battlefield presence. Led rituals during the Defense of Kaelstrum, reinforcing morale and converting potential losses into strategic victories.
- Brother-Captain Valren – Known for coordinating multi-company orbital drop assaults that turned the tide during the liberation of the mining world Nivarra. Valren was killed by a Tyranid warrior during the defense of Baal.
- Brother Librarian Theryn – Specialist in psychic support; pivotal in disrupting Chaos sorcery during the skirmishes around the Obsidian Nebula, preventing enemy manipulation of planetary defenses. Theryn during the counter attack at the Obsidian Nebula was killed by an Obliterator defending his brothers.
Chapter Fleet[]
Primary Vessels
- Excelsior (Battle-Barge) – The flagship of the Angels Carmine and the chosen seat of Chapter Master Thalorion. The Excelsior serves as both a weapon of war and a floating shrine to the bloodline of Sanguinius. Its vaulted sanctum-chapels are said to contain relics recovered from the days of the Chapter’s founding, and its strategium walls are engraved with the oaths of the emperor and stained glasses depicting their beloved primarch. As with all Battle Barges, she is heavily armed and capable of planetary assault, but her true role is as a symbol of authority and continuity within the Chapter.
- Helios (Battle-Barge) - Helios is a vessel famed for the relentlessness of its assaults. Where the Excelsior is the seat of command, the Helios is a ship of ceaseless war, carrying the scars of centuries of void-combat across her armored hull. Her interior is less ornate than her sister-ship, but no less sacred: her halls are lined with votive candles and engraved plates honoring the names of those who gave their lives in her service. She serves as the mobile strike headquarters for rapid-response campaigns. The vessel earned renown during the Defense of Tarvos, where she executed a precision orbital bombardment that destroyed the Genestealer Patriach's nest beneath the Draxion Hive.
- Crimson Oath (Strike Cruiser) – Renowned for its speed and reliability, the Crimson Oath has been the vanguard of countless planetary drop assaults. Its hull bears the scars of near-destruction during a Chaos ambush in the outer reaches of the Armageddon Sector, yet it continues to serve without falter.
- Blood of Solstice (Strike Cruiser) – Named for the Chapter’s death world home, the Blood of Solstice is a vessel of grim reputation. It is said that her decks resonate with whispered prayers before every battle, and her company often draws the most dangerous assignments, honoring the deadly legacy of their world.
- Tear of Angels (Strike Cruiser) – This strike cruiser carries with it a somber air, for it is often assigned to operations involving heavy casualties. Her Librarium maintains an extensive archive of the Chapter’s fallen, and she has become a symbol of remembrance within the fleet.
- Vigil of Carmine (Strike Cruiser) – A hunter of the void, the Vigil of Carmine is tasked with intercepting raiders and xenos corsairs. Its long-range augurs and experienced crew make it a formidable predator in space, often operating far ahead of the main fleet.
- Bloodwind (Strike Cruiser) Destroyed – Veteran of numerous campaigns, served mainly as the 5th company's command vessel. She met her end during the Devastation of Baal where she was torn apart in orbit by Tyranid bioships as she was overwhelmed by the superior numbers. She alongside other ships held their position long enough to allow Angels Carmine to get planetside to join in the defense of their progenitors homeworld.
- Sacrament of Thorns (Strike Cruiser) Destroyed – When the warp storm flared to life above the Canvas Hands’ home world, the Sacrament of Thorns was the first ship struck by empyric lightning. It took extremely heavy damage in the void war above the home world. Sustaining heavy damage it continued to fight against overwhelming odds. It was destroyed in orbit at the conclusion of the void war.
- Blood of Crusaders (Strike Cruiser) Destroyed – The Blood of Crusaders deployed most of its force planetside, coordinating orbital strikes to clear daemonic nests. When the warp storms destabilized the planet’s crust, a surge of daemonic presence began to overrun the lower decks. Moments later, the ship’s reactor went critical. Its controlled detonation vaporized the rift’s upper tendrils, buying time for evacuation of allied vessels.
Escort Frigates & Supply Vessels – Maintain logistics, fuel, ammunition, and extended operational reach for prolonged campaigns.
Chapter Relics[]
- Armor of the Dawnfire – Forged in the dark forges of Baal Secundus and sanctified beneath the light of the Chapter’s own reliquary flame, the Armor of the Dawnfire stands as one of the oldest and most venerated relics of the Angels Carmine. Once thought lost during the Scouring, it was recovered from the irradiated ruins of a shattered cruiser — its ceramite plates scorched black, but its core still burning with a faint, golden glow. The armor’s name comes from that inner light — a “dawnfire” said to have been kindled by Sanguinius’ own grace. When activated, its pauldrons and chestplate emit a soft radiance that cuts through the gloom of battle, casting a crimson-gold hue over the battlefield. This glow has become a rallying beacon for the Carmine, a symbol that even amidst the most dire wars, the light of their Primarch endures. Each plate is etched with delicate angelic script and engraved suns — representing the twin aspects of death and rebirth. The armor carries a reactive energy field, an ancient variant of the Cataphractii’s standard shielding, modified to flare brighter the more damage it endures. Legends say the armor itself hungers for defiance — shining most brilliantly when its bearer stands alone against impossible odds. It is worn by Champion-Master Thalorion, the Chapter’s peerless blade and chosen guardian of the Crimson Sepulchre. When Thalorion strides into war, the Dawnfire blazes brighter than ever, its aura igniting like a rising sun amid the smoke of battle. To the Angels Carmine, this sight is both blessing and omen — for though the light brings hope, it also heralds the spilling of much noble blood. Some among the Chapter’s Reclusiarchs whisper that the Dawnfire’s glow does not come from technology at all — but from the burning soul of every fallen Carmine bound within, their devotion fueling its radiance.
- The Crimson Wing – A master-crafted power sword, originally wielded by the first Chapter Master of Angels Carmine. Used in numerous rapid insertion assaults, it is a symbol of leadership and courage under fire.
- The Grail of Solstice – Sacred chalice used in the Rite of the Tear, containing the blood of Angels Carmine veterans across centuries. Represents continuity, loyalty, and the spiritual bond of the Chapter.
- Aquila of the Arx Solari – The Chapter’s ceremonial golden chestplate insignia, once worn by Thalorion in early campaigns. Symbolizes dedication to the Emperor and the Chapter’s martial heritage.
- Thunderhawk Spearhead Standard – Banner carried by assault squads during planetary insertions, marking elite detachments and commemorating the Chapter’s signature rapid deployment doctrine.
Chapter Appearance[]
Chapter Colours[]
The Angels Carmine adhere closely to the heraldic traditions of their progenitors, the Blood Angels, with only minor variations unique to the Chapter. The red of their power armour symbolizes their devotion to Sanguinius and their shared heritage within the lineage of the Angel. Company colours are marked upon the right knee-plate, while squad markings are displayed on the right shoulder pauldron. The Angels Carmine’s power armour is painted red, with black trim and red power packs, and a gold Aquila symbol on the chest plate.
Only in special cases does the Chapter badge not appear on the left shoulder plate. The following is a list of how each company represents itself.

The colours of the Angels Carmine’s Death Company and Sanguinary Guard are alabaster white, with black trim on the shoulder guards and backpacks, while still bearing blood-red saltires to symbolise the wounds of the Blood Angels’ Primarch Sanguinius after he was slain by Warmaster Horus during the Horus Heresy.
Chapter Badge[]
The Angels Carmine’s Chapter badge is a single black droplet of blood with one black wing protruding from its sides in a raised, elevated display, centred on a field of red. It embodies the Chapter’s vigilance, heritage, and the eternal remembrance of their Primarch’s sacrifice.

Allies[]
| Sanguinary Brotherhood | Other Blood Angels Successors – Shared heritage and doctrine foster alliances in regional campaigns, especially during Deathwatch operations. | |
| Eternal Sons | ![]() |
The Angels Carmine stood shoulder to shoulder with the Eternal Sons during the Devastation of Baal, when Hive Fleet Leviathan descended upon their Primarch’s homeworld. Both Chapters gave much in that defence—the Sons sending four proud companies, while the Angels committed nearly their full strength. Together they fought with unyielding resolve, the Sons striking with precision while the Angels unleashed the fury of their storm-born zeal. The battle left deep scars upon both brotherhoods. Barely two dozen of the Eternal Sons survived, and the Angels Carmine themselves were reduced to little more than three hundred battle brothers. Yet from that crucible of loss, a bond stronger than steel was forged. In the ruins of Baal, the Angels swore oaths of kinship with their cousins, vowing that they would stand beside the Sons should they ever be called upon. Since that dark hour, the Angels Carmine have cherished the Eternal Sons as true brothers of Sanguinius’ line. Their rites and traditions are often shared, and though distance separates their realms, the pledge endures: when one Chapter bleeds, the other will answer. |
